IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWrong parent name on marriage liscence.
When my husband and I got our marriage license in Nevada last month, I was not sure about my fathers first name because they had been saying it was this, then that all my life, so to be sure I called my mother to confirm the correct name and turns out she gave me the wrong one or the right one...

On my parents marriage certificate, my fathers name is William Thomas McGrath, whereas on my birth certificate it says Thomas William McGrath.

My marriage liscense has William Thomas McGrath as my father. :S
But now there is a error, and I'm not sure what to do.

Our petition has been already sent out, with William Thomas as my father on the G-325A form.
Any suggestions? sad.gif

Edit; so my father's real name is Thomas William...but still, what am I supposed to do? sad.gif

Oh really? So we don't need to inform them that he'll be serving in Kuwait until April 2010? He can do all the paperwork from there, as well, I have 6 months to use the VISA once I have it, so yeah. Thank you. smile.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresChange of Address?
So my husband is in the US Army, and we sent out our petition on March 10th, and they've gotten it and all that.
But now my husband is in Kuwait, and all our mail is being sent to his parents address. (They received the hard copy of the NOA1) so I was wondering, we should probably call them to let them know that he is in Kuwait right now? It's sort of confusing, but we need some suggestions. The Kuwait address was not included on the biographic because he wasn't there nor did he know the address at the time.

Or, further down the line, will they want this sort of info? :S

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFalling in Love
Well, my husband and I met on an online game, and at first I wasn't very fond of him, so I killed him on it. Then as the years passed, we talked more and more, and we became great friends. It wasn't until I saw him with his family that I really fell in love with him, whereas in his words, he fell in love with me the moment he saw me. I remember waiting for him at the airport, and then he came to me, and we sort of stood in front of each other completely confused and not sure what to do, but then he took me into his arms and held me really tight. Then we walked towards the car and he took my hand and held it tight. <3 I'm extremely old fashioned, and I'm horrid at making the first move. But, when he first held my hand, I found myself falling for him, and we're best friends, soul mates, and we've never fought ever. I love him so much (:

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR-1, G-325a Form
The G-325a forms are supposed to be identical, don't worry about that. If you look on the bottom of each page, it'll say like INDENT, REC.BR, and C, etc, it just means that each form goes to a different place/person. As well, if you run out of room, be sure to attach a piece of paper with the information.

You, the Petitioner needs to fill out all 4 pages of the G-325a and so does your wife. As well, be sure to include a passport style photo of yourselves, at the end of your designated G-325a forms.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow do you deal with ignorance and prejudice??
In my experiences, people are just skeptical of long distance relationships period. I am only in my 20's, so that explains that. But as I see it is, some people just won't change and are too stuck in their old ways and line of thinking. If a person truly loves you unconditionally than they will support you and not subject you to having to choose. My mother had her reservations at first, but one night she came to me and told me that she was happy that I'd found a great man who loves me and takes care of me. Ever since then, my immediate family has been supportive but I still have the odd person who decides to get in my face. sad.gif

But more importantly, do not forget to teach your children that race does not determine who a person is. As Martin Luther King Jr said, ''I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.''

Teach this to your children, smile.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat to write in an expedite letter.
So, my husband and I just found that we're eligible for military expedite. But what would we put on the letter? >_< I remember there being a post about this, but I can't seem to locate it. IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresReturning to USA after mailing I-130
Just make sure you have everything! Like you will need a copy of your marriage certificate which sometimes can take a while to get. Don't worry about mailing it out quickly after the marriage, you want to be with each other, after all. tongue.gif Just include the crucial forms, your marriage certificate, wedding pictures and proof of an on going martial union. My husband and I just sent pictures dating back to early 2008. It has worked thus far, no RFE's :3!

Good luck and congrats!

EDIT: You would have to return home to Canada during the VISA process because you have the INTENT to marry. Basically, it would be overlooked in some cases if you went for a visit without plans to marry and then bam you married. But since you have plans to marry, it will be hard to prove otherwise. Don't risk deportation!

In my opinion, I would return back home because then you'd be able to keep your job and keep making money so when you're together, it won't be as hard. I don't see a point in staying somewhere and not being able to work or drive for a year. Think about everything, but I strongly suggest returning home to Canada. (It's not that bad here. tongue.gif)

It depends on how you're getting across the border. If you're flying, you absolutely NEED a passport and yes, the passport rule is coming into affect June 1, 2009. I doubt they would let you in without a passport because this Saturday is the 30th. So unless you're going to head back the next day, then the chances are HIGH that they won't let you in.

EDIT: However, you can always try. But no guarantees. I would have invested in a passport months ago..>_<

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHas This Happened to Anyone Else?!!!
After reading this entire post, I can see why the world has so much conflict. Next time, if someone rubs you the wrong way or if they say something that is not correct, then simply tell them, ''I don't think this is right - here is why.'' Now, I'm not saying people do not get angry, because they certainly do but nobody is perfect. No one knows why the US Government does what they do. Only the people on the inside and even them, I'm sure do not fully grip what we are going through. I'm sure we are all in pain, and missing our loved ones. But anger will not solve or speed up the process. When Tngirl asked that question I'm pretty sure she did not mean to offend. Questions are not meant to offend, statements are.

I hope everyone has a splendid day and a easy journey. smile.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresRelationship proof
I believe they got a 221g form or something because of an engagement ceremony never happened.

But since you are married, and he's never lived in the US, they don't expect you to have a house together, or have the same bank account. Be sure to send your marriage certificate and tons of pictures from the wedding as well as meetings before the wedding if you can. All my husband and I sent was pictures, pictures, pictures, and some e-mails spawning over 3 years as proof of on-going relationship.

So far, no problems x_x
Bern.FemaleCanada2009-05-27 10:00:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresRelationship proof
Use Paypal. If need be. But I wouldn't worry about it because you're applying for a K-1. All you need for K-1 is, proof that you're met within the last 2 years and proof of an on going relationship. Tickets from your trips, pictures, phone records, IM records, e-mails, any of that should be fine. I wouldn't include anything with finances.
Bern.FemaleCanada2009-05-27 00:26:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureschanging name
Done this already. wink.gif

So basically, what you have to do is once you receive your marriage certificate, you can take it to a registry depot and change it over. I was only charged $20 because I was changing my name due to marriage. It should be the same where you are. As well, once you have your photo ID, go to your local SIN office and change your name on the card to your married name. (Remember to bring your birth certificate and your marriage certificate!) It is not required, but it is easier in the long run. The cost to change names was free. Plus, you need 2 pieces of government ID with your married name to apply with your passport. Then change your health care card, and everything else.

Now, for the passport. You will need to reapply for a new passport altogether. Be sure to check off the box that asks whether or not you already have a valid passport. You'll have to pay for a whole new passport, which is really a pain in the @ss.

If you need anything else, let me know! smile.gif

EDIT: Wait, what VISA are you applying under...my information is only good if you married in Canada/USA/etc, then returned home to Canada. I do not know the procedure for changing ID in the US. =(
