K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplied for K1 but now we will marry in her country first
Once you marry in Brazil or any other place outside the USA, then the K-1 becomes invalid and you would have to withdraw your K-1 and file for either the K-3/CR-1. Think it over before you make your decision.

How long has it been since you filed the K-1?

Trust me, it's in your best interest to just listen to the people here. Without meeting, it will be denied because meeting within 2 years of filing the petition is a requirement. Good luck in everything you do, however. smile.gif

Question pushbrk, does US customs tend to question more if you put an actual address instead of a hotel/inn? I always say I'm going to visit a boyfriend, friends, seeing the sites, and shopping. And yes, this is so much like a game. >_<

He joined the army, so we decided that that is where we'd spend our lives in the USA and have our children there. And once we retire, we'd become snowbirds. Canada in the summer and the United States in the Winter. Haha. biggrin.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs it possible to keep the K-1 process a secret from my parents while I'm living with them?
Hey dear,

Just wanting to let you know that I wish you the best of luck and that I hope everything goes well for you. But I do believe that it would be a good idea to let them know about it (before he comes to the US). If you don't, may drama may occur ):

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1, K3, IR-1/CR-1 ? ? ? Which one to choose?
Triple Poster!

All I can say is, do not marry during your first meeting. It's not very logical.

In all honesty, I advise you to meet your loved one and see how it goes and then if you decide that she is who you truly want to marry, then you can apply for the K-1. You're looking at about 6+ months average wait, but trust me, the wait is worth it (most of the time.) Plus you'd have covered the face-to-face requirement. Mind you, you have to see each other within 2 years of filing. So takes tons of pictures and try and get her to fill out her K-1 forms, such as G-325A etc. smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 with a Caveat
I know for a fact that most girls at 15-18 have a dream about being married but it doesn't actually hold true. I met my husband when I was 14, he was 15 and we married when I was 19 and he was 20. I know that you want to be together and that you're in love but I would wait until she's at least 18. At 15, she still doesn't know what she wants, and trust me...people change a lot from 15-18...just a thought. Good luck anyway.

You'll be fine. :) I immigrated about a month after I turned 20 to be with my husband. At this point I would focus on bringing together evidence which establishes that you have a legit relationship. As well, I'd look into the financial scheme of things. Make sure you make 125% over the poverty line, and if you don't, be sure that you find a co-sponsor for your case. Good luck. :)

No, they don't care, especially because once she immigrates to the US, from what I'm assuming the Ukraine, she won't have a job. :S

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHave you ever been to the US? application question.
Don't EVER lie. That's one of the worst things you can do while you're in this process.

I had a similar problem where I couldn't recall all the dates I had crossed into the US, so I wrote down the dates I could remember then stated that, ''There may be trips that occured which I do not remember, and I've been crossing the border since childhood.'' They accepted this and everything went smoothly. I was asked about a few visits though at my interview, some I said I honestly didn't remember and another was Disneyland...and I still got approved, just be 100% honest.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPlanning to file IR1/CR1---bonafide marriage
Hello everyone!

I've been creeping on here for a while. This is my first post and I"d like to introduce myself. My FI is American and I'm Canadian. We're so lucky to have had this site while we were dating so we were careful to take photos with the family and save boarding passes, hotel receipts, etc. The guides were very informative and we've started to fill out forms.

We are planning on having a small legal ceremony sometime soon and are looking for ways to show a bonafide marriage. He is a first time homeowner so we're not sure about some things:

1) Can my name just be added to the mortgage even though I have no credit history in the US? Does this also apply to utilities (phone, cable, heat, etc.)?

2) Will having a Canadian joint account as opposed to an American one have any bearing or are US joint accounts preferred?

Other steps we are planning to take:
- Make each other beneficiaries on medical & life insurance.
- Get affidavits from our moms & dads (This always cracks me up because at 25 & 28 we never expected to have them "write notes" for us as they put it.)

Looking forward to getting to know all of you during this process.

Matt & Rachael

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBirth Certificate - Fiasco...Please help!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBirth Certificate - Fiasco...Please help!
Hello all,

This may be a little long so I'm going to try and simplify it.

1) I , along with my parents, am a Canadian citizen through naturalization and renounced my Indian citizenship.

2) I was born in the United Arab Emirates to Indian parents (therefore, my birth certificate states that I am Indian)

3)My mother got a free laminating machine and laminated my birth certificate rendering it useless. It's also got a tear in it (from when I tried to see if the laminate would come off----it doesn't for those of you wondering).

4)I tried to have a new birth certificate sent to me but they refuse to do so since my nationality on the BC states that I am Indian but I am asking for it using my Canadian passport (since I no longer possess my Indian passport).

The following is paperwork I do have:

1) Baptism Certificate

2) Certificate of date of birth from the Indian Embassy to state that I was entered into their logs and my birth date.

3) Receipts to show that we attested documents to collect the birth certificate

4) E-mails saying that they refuse to give us the birth certificate due to the nationality issue

Can I use these instead of a birth certificate and send a letter in writing stating why they refuse to give me my birth certificate? Will they accept it or is lack of a birth certificate grounds to deny us?

The BC department asked for my father to come back into the country to get the birth certificate (I don't know why as I am 25...probably because I'm an unmarried woman) but he cannot as he left because his life was threatened and less importantly we can't afford to travel there.

If you're looking at my timeline to see where we are, we're waiting on the marriage certificate and are collecting papers in the meantime to have them ready to go to file I-130 and subsequent packages. I'm glad we spotted this now so we can "work on it" while waiting for the NOA.

Thanks in advance for your help VJers!!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBona fide CR1 marriage when living apart?
We were in a similar situation so here's what we sent:
To show financial mingling:
-got a supplemental (secondary) credit card to his

Also, we made each other beneficiaries on everything- retirement accounts, savings accounts, life insurance, medical contacts, etc.

We attached some photos of our wedding and previous trips (including our families). We didn't put any affidavits though.

Hope this helps!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuick G-325 Question!!
So, my fiance and I have been putting together the package for our I-129F, and while filling out the G-325 forms, we have come to a bit of a snag on the employment history section. For the addresses, I've just been putting the city and the province/state, whereas my fiance feels it needs to be the full street/mailing address.

Which one is correct and/or preferable?

Thanks!! :D

I can completely relate to this, when I first moved here, which was only a few months ago, I go off the plane in Las Vegas and already wanted to go back. I blamed myself for growing up too fast and for leaving my mother. :( I'm still very homesick so I'm going back to Canada in 3 days for a month, I hope it'll ease what I'm feeling. Good luck to you, <3

CanadaSeiden vs. Medisys
When I was choosing where to have my medical, I had this sort of problem too.

I chose Medisys because it was cheaper and because of it's location. (You can walk from the medical clinic to the consulate in about 10 or so minutes.) Also, if you missed any vaccinations you could get them there. The only -downside- is that you have to wait 3 days for your results instead of 2 days that you'd wait at Seiden's. It worked for me though since I was in town from Calgary, I had my medical on Monday and picked them up at 7am on Friday, then went to my interview. xD

CanadaMilitary ID ...confused.
Hmm, I will have to give them a call then. Thanks so much for the information! The thing was, I was worried he wouldn't be making the required amount of money...(lame worry, but important!) so I wanted to get the card, so he could begin getting paid for me. Turns out, he is making over the 100%. He's only an E-3, he'll be an E-4 soon, but he'll be E-3 until the end of the year...thank you so much though.

And if anyone else has more information, please let me know and post here. smile.gif

Well, my plan is, once I have the paperwork, I'll go visit my in laws in Las Vegas, and go to the Airforce base which is a bit north. So, it should be fine if I bring copies of his deployment orders, the papers, and they won't demand a SSN? Hmm.

How positive are you charles?! XD

CanadaMilitary ID ...confused.
Hello fellow canucks! It's finally nice and sunny today.

But on another note, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with obtaining US Military ID. Spousal of course.

I've heard of some Filipinos getting it through the embassy in Manila, so I was wondering if the embassy in Ottawa does something similar. If not, should I just pay a visit to the US and go to a base and get it? If I do the latter, will I need a SSN?

But yeah, I'm really confused and clueless!
So if anyone has any information or experience on the matter.
Please share. <33

Thank you.

I am going for my menu tasting today! We are thinking of serving Italian for our wedding, as it is the one cuisine the hubby and I agree on. Im also thinking of serving roasted pork on a spit to touch on my Filipino heritage as well. I am so excited!

Man, during my aunts wedding (I'm filipino too) she somehow decided to get a giant roasted pig, head and EVERYTHING. I didn't know whether to stare at it or cry. Now I say hindi ako gutom (is that right?) all the time. D:

I don't think that you do, but if there was a warranty bought with your ring it will void the warranty. I can't take my ring anywhere other than Jared or it will void the warranty. Booh!

But I would assume you could take it anywhere that services jewelry.

Well that sucks..I don't want to void my warranty. It's a lifetime warranty...blargh. >_< So I should probably ask my husband if we could make a trip to San Diego...Thank's for the heads up. I was ignorant to the whole warranty thing.
