Middle East and North Africai guess this is good news
I guess some others can advise you better about this, but I believe that is the standard email that they send to everyone who emails them.
It just means they are working on your case, just like they are working on everyone elses case.

I appreciate your honesty about this. I always get the feeling that many women here are in a similar situation and just don't want to say anything.
Not that anyone has the perfect life, with an "imported" spouse or not.
I think all the stuff you mentioned helped me to decide that it would just be easier for me to move to Egypt. That wasn't the only reason, but I really didn't know how we'd handle the adjustment, and I like it here in Egypt so why not? It's a chance to do something most people don't get to do, and I'm grateful for that! star_smile.gif

I wanted to add something about my own personal feelings/experience. I love my husband but I wish I didn't. I honestly regret meeting him, going to Egypt, marrying him and bringing him here. He's not a terrible guy but he has complicated my life a lot. I hate saying this about a person but he's been more trouble than he's worth. I know it sounds awful but I like honesty and I'm quite certain there are a few ladies here who feel the same but don't want to publicly admit it or even admit it to themselves. It doesn't necessarily have to do with him being Egyptian or Arab or whatever though that does play a small part. The ideals and IMO "old fashioned" or "traditional" ideas bug me at times. I can't describe it. It's not the religion either because neither of us practice a religion. He's Muslim but he doesn't practice. He doesn't pray or fast or any of it. Neither do I. But it's always there, yanno? His family is religious so he feels obligated to call himself a Muslim. And I feel he fears eternal damnation if he doesn't. I no longer have that fear. Anyhoo, the past two years haven't been easy...at all. He's been here two years. I've known him nearly five years. The visa process took one year total. Like I said, he's not horrible, he's not even bad but I kinda feel stuck. You don't marry someone, make him move to foreign country and then just say, meh I change my mind. You gotta follow through, right? I'm not unhappy. I'm not thrilled but I'm not unhappy. I make my own happiness though. I don't expect him to make me happy. Anyways, the visa process, the uncertainty, the adjustment, the finding a job, the culture clashes, the miscommunication/misunderstanding, the wanting to live up your #######, the (at times) controlling nature...it's all a bit much. Too much breaking in, too much hand holding (not literal holding of hands)...a child doesn't even require that much hand holding. Basically, as a wise woman told me, importing a husband is the same as adopting a retarded toddler. It's exhausting. So that's my story. It probably sounds worse than it really is.

I know the sappy, lovey dovey stories will follow and make me look like a chump. That's cool but I know it's not all a bed of roses. Just different levels of frustration.

Before making my first trip to Egypt, a couple of friends of mine were very concerned that I might not know my then fiance (now husband) well enough and one of them, who has family here in Egypt, wanted to check up on him.
I didn't feel that great about doing it, but I let her have his address and a friend of her brothers went to my fiance's apartment and asked around (neighbors) about the family to find out about them in general.
I guess the answer that she got was satisfactory. lol

Unless you know someone who can corroborate information or do some general checking here, I'm not sure how you could find out.
I wouldn't bother wasting any money on a private investigator without knowing the investigator personally.

HisLittleMasriyah, can you usually find it where you live and just can't find any now?
I'm sure you could buy it online somewhere.
There was an Arabic grocery near where I lived in the States that sold it canned, dried and frozen.
If all else fails, I can have a friend mail you some. biggrin.gif
I'd offer to send some from Egypt but I guess it would take some time to get there. lol

I hope the doctor will let you travel during the summer, but maybe it would be easier to wait til after the baby is born and then you can bring baby to Egypt to visit your family and everything. Plus, Egypt's summer hotness and pregnancy sounds like a bad combination. unsure.gif

No, if both your parents work and either is a joint sponsor, neither will count each other as a dependent. They are both adults and both have jobs. If they have a joint tax return only one's income will count and that person will attach only their w-2s.

Thank you so much

I have a question if my mother will be a joint sponsor for my husband and just her and my father live in the home (they both have jobs) will my mother count my father as household size. So if its my mother and father living in the home would the household size be my mother, my father and my husband. or just my mother and my husband. Im confused about this because my father works also and my mother doesnt support my father because they both work. I just want to know what the household size would be if both my parents work and my mother does not support my father so would she still claim him in household size thanks.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestions about I-134 and I-864
Hi I have a few questions if anyone could help me I would so appreciate it.

1. I filed the I-130 petition for my husband DCF I know I must fill out the I-864 but do I also fill out the I-134. I not sure if I need to do both of these.

2. On the I-864 I haven't worked therefore I have no tax returns so I will get a joint sponsor. However I have around $7000 that I received for last year from child support and I have my child support statements that I will send along with my I-864. The question that says "the amount of individual annual income" I put $7000 (child support) I have work now in the states so my question is where do I put the income that I am now receiving on the the I-864 because its not annual because I didnt make this money last year I just started this job Im just not sure where I put this income.

3. On the DS-156K that my husband gets in packet 3, question 4 is about marriage status it says when was your marriage terminated (we are still married) and then it also says if you are married then how can you marry your US fiance? Im not understanding what I put for all this because he is not my fiance he is my husband and not sure why we must fill out the DS-156K if I am reading it right it looks like this is for a fiance.

4. Also on the I-134 (if I am suppose to fill this out also) it says question 11 "I intend or not intend to make contributions to the support of this person. Im not sure what I put here, I did look at the example on VJ but it is for a K-1 visa not DCF so Im not sure what to write in here.

Ok last question sorry

5. I will be going back home before my husband gets packet 3 and does his interview so my question is I need to know what if anything I need to leave here with my husband like for example my passport info, drivers license, my college transcript any of my passport photos things like that. Or did we just need all that info for the I-130 petition?

Ok hope I didnt confuse anyone with my questions and thanks so much for reading my post and hope someone can help me out.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-864 question
Hi all, I have a question I know when I send the I-864 I must also include tax returns. I am confused about this, some things I have read said just send 1 year of tax returns and other things I have read said send 3 years of tax returns also I have read that you must send employee letter and pay stubs along with the tax returns and then other things I have read said just send 3 years of tax returns, as long as you send 3 years of tax returns and you make enough money for your household you do not need to send employee letter or pay stubs. So I am very confused as to what I should send with the I-864 can anyone help me out with this? Thank you

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionJust received packet 3
Ok we just received packet 3 in the mail today we filed the petition DCF in Cairo Egypt. I have some questions about the packet 3.
First there is a form in the packet called DS-3032 I have never heard of this form does anyone know what this is and if we have to fill it out?

Also when my husband gets all things he needs on the checklist in packet 3 does he send copies and originals back to embassy or just send copies and bring all originals with him when he comes to his interview?

I also know anything in Arabic must be translated in English does he send the translation in the mail along with the copies or bring them with the originals when he comes for his interview?

Can these English translations be copies or must they all be originals?

In the checklist it mentions copies of all things but the only thing that doesn't say copy is the police record, it says original should we still send a copy of this or just the original? Everything else says copy and original.

I have heard lots of info that there is DS-156, DS-156K, DS157 and I-134 that you fill out also but there was nothing in the packet 3 about these or was there anything said about these forms so Im not sure if we need them or not because its not listed in the checklist for packet 3.

If anyone could please help me I would appreciate it because I am really confused about all this after receiving packet 3. Thank you

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion about I-864A
Thank you. I have a few more questions. I know you send back your Federal Tax returns along with the I-864A what are they wanting? Just the form 1040 or everything like do they want also the Schedules? I have a Schedule A&B, D and do they want form 2106-EZ as well as the other forms or just the 1040. The 1040 is about 2 pages and the 1040 schuedules and other forms are about 9 pages just wanted to know if I need all these pages or just the first 2.

Also I must send back the W-2 along with the tax return and I also seen something like 1099? What is this and does this always come with tax returns and must you send this back? Because I am not seeing anything for a 1099 on her tax returns so I was wondering if this was something that everyone gets back or just some people may get this back?

I also have questions in completing the I-864A Im sorry I have looked for an example form but I dont see one for the I-864A. My question is this on page 2 of form I-864A question 10 it says "My current individual annual income is?________________ Im wondering what I put here? would this be what my mother has made as of now this year? And if so do I need to send something along with this amount to prove this is correct amount?

Another question on the I-864A page 3, Part 2 Sponsor's promise number 13 it says I THE SPONSOR and then you print your name and also your signature would I sign this since I am the petitioning sponsor and then my mother would sign the same page the part that says I, THE HOUSEHOLD MEMBER so this page 3 would need mine and my mother's signature?

I also have a question about the I-864 page 4 question 24b It says "income you are using from any other person who was counted in your household size: NAME___________ RELATIONSHIP__________________ Current Income_____________ in this spot I would put my mothers name correct and then what would I put for current income? I am getting all her income information off her tax returns because that is what you are suppose to send back so Im not sure where I get this current income

I know this is a lot of information but I am really stuck here and confused and Im trying to hurry to get all this completed and do it right so hopefully my husband can join me in the US very quickly. Please any help would be so much appreciated.

I have just recently returned to the US after staying with my Egyptian husband over 6 months in Egypt so we could file the petition DCF. The petition was approved and now I am back in the US trying to get everything together for my husband so he can send back packet 3 to the Embassy there in Cairo. I have a question that I am not sure about. I have been back in the states for a little over 1 week and I am having trouble finding a job right now. I have 5 months pregnant (almost 6) and it seems like people dont want to hire a pregnant woman. I am currently enrolled and will continue my college full time in about another month. I have 3 children and my children and I are living with my parents and will continue to do so even after my husband arrives in the states and he also will live with us in my parents home. I have talked to my mother and she will co-sponsor my husband because I dont have any income and haven't had any income I have always been a stay at home mom. So I know I will need to fill out the I-864 and my mother will fill out the I-864A. My mother has agreed to financially support myself, my children and my husband after he arrives here. My mother would like for me to continue my college full time therefore not be working. I only have about 2 more semesters until I graduate from college anyway. And my husband will look for work when he arrives. So my question is do you think it would be ok to just let the Embassy know that I will not be working and my mother will be taking care of us financially? Or must I get a job before my husband can come here. To me it seems like it shouldn't matter if im working or not if my husband will be supported when he is here by my mother anyway. The purpose of the sponsor is so my husband wont become a public charge and he for sure wont be because my mother makes more than enough money to support all of us right now.
Also when looking at my mother's tax returns Im confused as to what I am suppose to be looking at. Is it the 1040, W2, and 1099 that I send back to the Embassy? And also what total amount am I looking for in determining how much she made for the year. There is a place on the tax returns that says "WAGES, SALARIES, TIPS, ETC" and then it has an amount and then there is a place on the tax returns that says "TOTAL INCOME & ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME" and this has a different amount so Im not sure what I am suppose to be going by if someone could please help me with all this. Im really trying to hurry and get all this done so I can send all back to my husband so he can hopefully get his interview soon and join me here in the US. Thanks so much.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionTax return questions
I have some questions I know you cannot combine income. My mother and father file their taxes jointly however its my mothers income my father really didnt make enough to even add to the taxes. My question is how will the embassy know that Im only using my mother's income on tax returns and not trying to combine them both since they file jointly? Also the only thing I see with a 1099 with tax returns is for my father for the little income that he made. I was told the 1099 is to report miscellaneous income so that would be my father. My mother doesnt have any miscellaneous income only what is on her tax returns for her TOTAL income. And since I cannot combine their incomes I shouldnt send in the 1099's that have my fathers name because we dont need his income. So Im guessing just all pages of their tax returns 1040, all the schedules and the W-2 for that year is this correct? I dont see anything with a 1099 with my mothers name on it. Just for my father for the small amount of money he made for last year which isnt really enough to even add to any tax returns.

I also know I must include my mother's birth certificate along with the I-864A to prove she is a United States citizen. I dont know if she ever obtained her original birth certificate but she does have that says the state and county she was born in and her birthdate and at the top it says "CERTIFIED COPY OF RECORD OF BIRTH" would this be ok to send?

thanks so much

Hi I have a couple new questions about the I-864A. It says all you need is last years tax returns but if u think it will help you can send the last 3 years. My mother made more than enough last year to co-sponsor my husband but I think I will send the last 2 years just in case. The reason I say the last 2 years is because 3 years ago she had her own business so she filed her business taxes but the last 2 years she worked for someone else and I just think it would be to hard and confusing to send business tax returns and individual tax returns? What does everyone else think about that? You think I could just send the last 2 years instead of the last 3 years?

Also I am still very confused as to what to put on Page 2 question 10 " My current individual annual income" this is for the I-864A. My mother doesnt make the same amount of money every year. Her taxes have different amounts for the last 2 years so Im not sure what to put here. My mother feels she will make close to what she made last year so should I just put near the same amount as she made last year in this question or does this question mean what she has made this year as of today I'm confused because it says CURRENT.

Also on page 3 of the I-864A question number 13 it says I THE SPONSOR and I know I put my name there and then it says I PROMISE TO COMPLETE AND FILE AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT ON BEHALF OF THE FOLLOWING __________ and it ask you to indicate a number does anyone know what I put in this place as far as a number? Im not sure about that.

thanks so much

she can estimate her projected annual income and enter that.

Thanks alot!
Does anyone know if it would be ok to send the last 2 years tax returns insted of the last 3 years because she had her own business 3 years ago and it may be confusing to figure out everything for the I-864A when I am putting a business in there. I dont know maybe not. Just would like some input on this please.

I really need help with this because I cannot send anything to my husband until I know what number they are talking about putting here thanks.

Also a new question I was told to look at line 22 on tax returns and this is where you get the total amount income and this is what you put on the I-864A for annual income but someone just told me that u look at the amount on the W-2 and this amount is different then line 22 anyone know the right answer to this? Hello thank you all for all your help the last couple days, I've had lots of I-864 questions. Its nice to know there are people willing to help you out in this nerve racking process. I have a couple more questions
I know when you send the I-864 and the I-864A you must also show proof that you are an American Citizen to be able to sponsor or co-sponsor. I will be sending a copy of my passport along with my I-864 but what can my co-sponsor send as they do not have a passport. Would sending a copy of their birth certifcate be ok to send? Also all this tax returns stuff the 1040, W-2's, 1099's are still confusing me I am thinking of just calling and ordering tax transcripts but then I read that it will take about 2 weeks to receive and I didnt want to wait that long. I was hoping to get all things sent to my husband in the next couple of days so he is able to send packet 3 back to the Embassy there in Egypt. Any help would be so appreciated.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHas anyone completed I-864A?????
Hi I dont know why no one is responding to my questions. Im trying to explain my questions as best as I can and I really need some help. I can't do anything more until I figure out these questions. So please anyone I could use your help please.

My first question on the I-864A page 2 question 10 it asks "My current individual annual income is $_______ ? what do I put for this is this what my joint sponsor has made so far for this year or what they think they will make for the whole year. Im not sure how to determine this and also this amount is this the same that I put on my I-864 #24b that asks for joint sponsors individual annual income?

Also on page 3 Part 2 Sponsor's promise #13 it says "I, THE SPONSOR ________________ in consideration of the household member's promise to support the following intending immigrant and to be jointly and serverally liable fo any obligations I incur under the affidavit of support, promise to complete and file an affidavit of support on behalf of the following ________ (and here it says to indicate a number) named intending immigrant. This is really confusing me does anyone know what number I am suppose to put here?

Also if my mother and father filed taxes jointly but I am only using my mothers income do i still need to send it 1099's for my father?

I am also living with my parents and will continue to do so do I need to show some type of proof that I am living with them?

IF anyone can please help me with any of this. Im sure I am not the only one that has filed an I-864A and used 1 person on a tax return that had filed jointly. Please help me.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnyone have joint sponsor that is included in household size
If anyone could help. I have posted these questions a few times and not getting any response. Maybe no one has had a joint sponsor that was a family member and needed to fill out I-864A. If anyone has I would really appreciate your help as I can't send the papers to my husband in Egypt until I get this question answered

On page 3 of the I-864A question number 13 it says I THE SPONSOR and I know I put my name there and then it says I PROMISE TO COMPLETE AND FILE AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT ON BEHALF OF THE FOLLOWING __________ and it ask you to indicate a number does anyone know what I put in this place as far as a number? Im not sure about that.

I just want to know when looking for total income for the year am I looking on the tax return line 22 TOTAL INCOME or am I looking at the W2 form for that year?

HI Im still getting all things together and ready to send to my husband in Egypt. Im still so confused and worried about everything I just want to make sure I have done everything correctly. I have a few more questions:

1. This is my situation I have 3 kids from a previous marriage and also am now 5 months pregnant from my Egyptian husband. I have never really worked because I have always been a stay at home mom. I have been going to college for quite some time now but took some time off when I went to live with my husband in Egypt so we could file the petition DCF. Now I am back in the states and my husband is waiting in Egypt for all the paperwork so he can send it to the Embassy there for his interview. My kids and I are living with my parents now and we will continue to do so even after my husband arrives in the states so that I am able to finish college and both my husband and I can find good jobs. My mother makes more than enough money to support us financially until that time. So my question is I know I am the main sponsor so I will fill out the I-864 and then the household member is suppose to fill out the I-864A so we can COMBINE our incomes but if I dont have any income we wont be combining incomes so I wonder if my mother would still fill out the I-864A. She still is a household member but we are not combining incomes that is my confusing.

It does not matter if you make negative nine million dollars, she is still a joint sponsor and you are still the sponsor, she fills out the I-864a as a household member co-sponsoring your sponsorship of your husband and you fill out he I-864.

2. Also my mother and father filed taxes jointly and my fathers SSN and name is on all the tax papers however he didnt work and his income is not included on the taxes my question is how will the Embassy know this is just my mothers income when my fathers name and SSN is on all papers as well I am just worried, I dont want the Embassy to think I am trying to combine their incomes.

Because the documents you are going to provide them will state her income...the w-2's and the other supporting documents if there are any.
You are seriously overthinking and making this more difficult than it is...the consulate does this every day and believe me they know exactly what they are looking at.
Calm down and follow all the directions you have been given and things will be fine.

thank you all so much for your help in this confusing and worrying time for me.

Thank you and you are right I need to take some deep breaths and relax. You answering my questions is helping me relax some so thanks for that.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionEmbassy sending packet 3 papers back to my husband
Hello I just have a question and want to know if anyone has went through this also. My husband and I filed the petition DCF and that is approved. I am back home in US now and my husband is still living in Egypt. The embassy there in Cairo sent my husband packet 3 and I got all the I-864 and I-864A papers together from me and my co-sponsor and he sent all these papers back to Embassy. Well the Embassy called him this morning and told him something is wrong with the I-864A something like it is wrong form or something and they are gonna send him a new form. I dont know what could be the problem cuz I did everything according to the instructions and the Embassy wouldnt tell my husband anything else. Does anyone have any idea what the Embassy could be talking about with this being the wrong paper the I-864A cuz we are living with my parents so I know this is right paper. I am just so worried now can anyone help me? Thanks

Hello, I am married to an Egyptian man and I just returned back to the states after filing my husband's petition at the embassy there in Cairo. We did DCF any how so after I returned to the states I started to collect all the papers needed for the packet 3 that the embassy would send my husband. My 3 kids and I are living with my parents and I got my father to be a co-signer for me in sponsoring my husband as I dont make enough money so I filled out the I-864 and my father filled out the I-864A and I got all papers together and mailed them to my husband in Egypt and it cost me like $80 dollars to send quite alot. My husband received these papers and sent all packet 3 back to embassy but the embassy sent back the I-864A to him stating that they do not need this form from my father they need the I-864 now I cant afford to send more papers to my husband again when I am pretty sure if I live with my father (my kids and I are NOT on his tax returns though) we just are living here with them he is suppose to still complete the I-864A. does anyone know why the embassy would send the I-864A back and tell us they dont need that form from my father just they need the I-864? Maybe they dont realize that me and my kids are living with my parents. I did write a letter explaining this though maybe they didnt understand. Anyway can someone help me with this I thought the house hold member completes the I-864A so I dont know why they dont want this form but the other one.
Thanks

can someone please help me?

No responses maybe no one understands my question and Im sorry if it sounds confusing. Maybe I can ask an easier question. Do I need to send anything along with my father's I-864A to prove that I am living in the household with him? So that the Embassy knows this? Thanks really needing some help because I am lost now and dont know what to do

Did they keep your husband's passport?

No they told my husband he was approved but they did not keep his passport. The CO said within the week they would call him and have him send his passport back to them through DHL. I just dont understand this whole process, if he is approved like she said why wouldnt she keep his passport and why is he going through AP now if she said he was already approved. And I dont understand why some get their visas within a couple of weeks and some not for a couple of months of more. My husband said his interview went great and the CO was very nice and he answered all her questions correctly. Im just so worried I wish he would get his visa soon.
