Morning Olivia and Charles!

Charles...how's your wife feeling? It seems like yesterday when you said she was expecting. Time is really flying by!

Olivia...I can't imagine it. It sucks! I hope that the two of you get reunited soon. I don't know how I would handle it if I were you. Hang in there!

i guess she's doing ok, i see her when i get home and she goes to work shortly thereafter. i leave for work when she gets home - ah the joys of working night shift. but as of midnight tonight i'll have 51 hours overtime for this week. tongue.gif

Charles, I think all the girls here want to know, with that much OT worked, what are you getting all of them for Christmas.

Middle East and North AfricaArabic Movies w/ English Subtitles
I'm not sure what any of these movies are, but I would love to see some Egyptian movies with English subtitles.
star_smile.gif

When I was in Egypt, they always had the sound down too low on the tv for me to hear well, but they could all read the Arabic subtitles so had no problem with the sound. That was only slightly aggravating. lol

Middle East and North AfricaIt's hump day!!!
There's a woman at my work who sings all the time. It's not that loud but I can hear it plainly and although she might sing in her church choir, it's quite different singing on your own, when your voice is the only one that can be heard.
It drives me batty but I haven't found a nice way to tell her that I'd rather hear nails coming down a chalkboard than one more day of her singing or humming.
Does anyone know of a *polite* way to tell someone that kind of thing? I'm not going to tell her to shut up or anything else like that, I'd get talked to by my boss. And if I complain to my boss about the singing, I'll get told that I'm too bitchy. *sigh*
Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions? She's a nice woman and I don't want to hurt her feelings but I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want to hear her singing anymore.

Trader Joes Prenatal Vitamins...I love them. Great for my hair and nails to boot! tongue.gif

Middle East and North Africacheck in time - who are you, hows it going and just saying hi thread
I tend to come and go from this site. Been gone for a long bunch of months, but back for a few weeks. Guess I will disappear again when Ramadan ends.

Hubby is from Cairo. Still living there. We'll have been married a year next month. And it's been 10 months since I've seen him. We're trying for a visit soon but still not sure when.

It looks like I will be moving there sometime next year, at least that is the current plan. I am ready at any time, but it will take money to get an apartment and set it up. My honey wants everything perfect for me before I go, so I am trying to be patient. sleep.gif

Wishing everyone still waiting for visas the best of luck and speedy processing times. star_smile.gif

Middle East and North AfricaFeelin the love
Hello to all the MENA peeps out there kicking.gif

I know that it's Monday and the first inclination is to say blech! biggrin.gif

However, the sun is shining here and I'm in high spirits.

I thought this would be a good opportunity to share some lovin around.
Although I've been around VJ for over 2 years, I come and go and don't always post so much.
And when I do post, I can tend to be a wee bit on the opinionated side. blush.gif

But, I've really appreciated the fact that this place exists and for the friendships that get formed here and the help that is given out.

I've had my differences with some here, and I don't agree on what everyone does, but that's the beauty of being an individual. Without individuals this world would be a pretty boring place.

To all my Muslim sisters out there - love you all for the sake of Allah!
If I've ever pointed anything out to you as wrong, it's only that I wanted the best for you! I just maybe don't have the right words to say it. I would love to be able to see all of you in Jannah! luv.gif

For those still waiting on their spouses, I wish you all the best and God willing things will work out as you wish.
Remember that there's always someone here to lend a hand when you're feeling down and think you can't get through even one more day.

MENA rocks! star_smile.gif

I'm sure you already know this, but as a reminder, please be careful about mold. It can be the cause of major health problems, and if the ceiling was wet enough for long enough, you could have a problem with it in the floorboards or what have you. Please be careful and get it checked out when you can.

QUOTE (morocco4ever @ Jan 20 2009, 09:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Although I think it is silly that he should have to shave, well my instinct is to tell him to shave. Reason? Well he only has a visa, he is not a US citizen, and he has not in the US as of yet. They can send him back at the port if they choose to do so. Why would they over a beard? Who knows, but why I have seen them do strange things before (ask allousa). You could fight them? Maybe, but unlikely (again ask allousa). But is it worth the risk of having him turned at the POE when you have worked this long to get him here? And all over a beard that will grow back in a few weeks?

Wait until he gets his citizenship before you have him make a stand. Why take chances over a silly beard?

It might seem silly to you, but it is a sunnah of our prophet Mohammed, salallahu alayhi wassalam, and I think it's pretty disrespectful to call it like that.

EgyptAir isn't exactly the most comfortable and that's a looooooooooong flight. crying.gif

Insha'Allah I won't be making the trip too many times again, though I'm thinking about breaking the next trip up into CA to JFK or surrounding area, and then JFK to Europe, and from there to Cairo. I would think the shorter flights would be easier to bear. 11 to 12 hours on a plane at one time is just too much. wacko.gif

To Heartland, I am sorry to hear that this happened to you.
I hope you will get through what comes with ease and that you will find much better things in your future.

There were times when I felt paranoid about this issue - how could one not after reading here or on EgyptSearch for any amount of time? It is a topic that is brought up often enough and probably most here have one sign that has happened, if not more, and yet that doesn't mean they will or are being used.

Since it turns out I'm moving to my husband's country, there's no possible way he can use me for a green card. He won't be getting one.

In any case, I have gotten more from my husband that I will have lost if something happens.
Insha'Allah we will have a happy and long life together.
I wish the same for everyone else here.

Well, I couldn't go on a stove strike since I have to eat too. His favorite foods are pizza and waffles so we might have to go without those for a while. whistling.gif However, I might try the blouse strike to get Hoom to quit smoking. He promised to quit and was supposed to be threw with ciggies before we got married but he only cut down on how much he smokes and only after getting really sick with bronchitis. mad.gif I got Bronchitis shortly after him and it really scared me seeing how much sicker he got than me because he smokes. I was still functional though sick, but he was completely bedridden. I told him it was mandatory that he quit before we go to the states.

Likely that if he quits, he won't stay quit unless he does it for himself. You might end up with your blouse closed for a very very long time.

Middle East and North AfricaWhat are you getting your Mena Man for Valentine's Day???
Thank you for taking the time to put me down and criticize me sister. Very kind of you, and shows the all encompassing love that you speak of.

I merely wanted to point out, for those sisters who might not know, that it wasn't a holiday that is celebrated in Islam. If I had made some big long post, guess what? I would have been criticized for that as well.
I wasn't trying to give a lecture, and I wasn't trying to say I'm better than anyone here, only give some information that might help some people understand that it wasn't an Islamic holiday.

It seems a waste of time here.
I'm sorry I bothered.

As Muslims, you're hardly being grinchy by not celebrating a holiday that is Christian in origin. No Muslims should be celebrating it.

Middle East and North AfricaWhat are you getting your Mena Man for Valentine's Day???
For those whose husbands don't get them anything, I'm fairly certain that Vday isn't a traditional holiday in the Middle East, so your hubby's most likely didn't grow up knowing about it or celebrating it, and doesn't understand the meaning that it's taken on in the US.
At this point, I don't understand the purpose of having just one day a year that's supposed to be extra special to show your spouse you love them? You should show each other every day. star_smile.gif
Vday is just another way for Hallmark and the florists and chocolate makers to get your hard earned and in short supply these days - cash. tongue.gif

I don't think it would be for good. And yes, for his work. He can potentially stand to make a lot more money there than here in Egypt. It would basically be a satellite location for the Egyptian business that he and his partner run.
Not sure how long we would be there. If I like it, and we can afford it, then we could probably stay as long as we wanted. But I'm not sure I'll like it there.

Jillai I wish you lived closer, we could "do time" together. lol

I have been here 4 weeks as of tomorrow and the only place I've been outside the apartment is to the parents in law's place a few times, and last night we went for a walk.
I do at times feel like a prisoner, but insha'Allah it's just temporary. Hubby is trying to work some things out since we might move to Kuwait soon'ish, so I know he can't spend as much time at home and for us to go out as he wants right now. With a little (more) patience on my part, it should get better soon.
I'm fairly sure he would let me go wander the neighborhood at least, but quite honestly, since I don't know the language and customs, I feel a bit uncomfortable going out by myself. I'm not as adventurous now as I was when I was younger.
But if I had another girl to go walk with or even stay indoors with, it could be different. smile.gif

Anyways, Jillai I hope the time until you can go back to the US goes quickly. rose.gif
