PhilippinesCFO... ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
I just attended my CFO seminar this morning (dec 15, 2008 St Mary's Katipunan). One of the attendees was scheduled to leave yesterday for las vegas. She was sharing to us that she was not able to leave the country coz she did not have the CFO sticker. She tried to ask if she could leave even without the CFO sticker, well.. the mere fact that i met her during the CFO training, her request was not granted.

It is a requirement of the Philippine government to all Filipinos proceeding abroad as fiancé(e)s and spouses of foreign nationals. It is not a US government requirement so that must be reason why US Embassy doesn't include it in their instructions.I found this link about CFO and it is a requirement based on Republic Act 8239: http://www.cfo.gov.ph/counseling.htm

Thanks for the feedback. I've already been to the website. It says,

Per Republic Act 8239 and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Order 28-94, Filipinos proceeding abroad as fiancé(e)s and spouses of foreign nationals are required to attend the CFO's guidance and counseling programs as a pre-requisite to the issuance of passports.

This merely says it's a requirement to get a passport. Thus it raises the question, if one already has a passport, do they still need to attend a CFO seminar?

Philippinessending money to the family back in the phils

is this like a typical thing?! i do not know, hence me asking..

marrying a fillipino, and then you have some kind of "understood" obligation to care for extended family back on the islands?!

It depends on the filipina and the family. Some would expect, some won't.

PhilippinesBEST WAY TO TEACH MY FILIPINA TO BUDGET

WONDERING HOW TO MAKE MY FILIPINA ABOUT BUDGETING....SHE SEEMS TO HV NO IDEA OF WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE MONEY AN BE ABLE TO SAVE OR BUDGET... SOMETIMES I THINK SHE THINKS MONEY JUST FALLS FROM TREES HERE... BELIEVE ME,,I NOT THE BEST WITH MONEY BUT I KNOW WHAT AN WHEN THINGS NEED TO BE PAID... IF I ASK HER WHERE THE MONEY WENT,,MOST THE TIME SHE GETS MAD BECAUSE I DONT TRUST HER WITH MONEY SHE SAYS... THANKS FOR ANY IDEAS....GREG

Ask her to document all her spending so she would see where her money went. All small stuff when added up could be costly.

Responsible filipinas are aware of this procedure.

PhilippinesTravelling to Pi - Ticket under married name Passport Maiden name

I booked my ticket under my married name but my passport is still under my maiden name...I already have my greencard that has my married name on it...but I just found out that this could be a problem in boarding.. I called Delta airlines and they said they cant change my last name anymore!!

What should i do?? My flight is already on May 2nd...

Has anyone experience this problem too???

Pls help..

Try to call Delta again and explain your situation. Delta should have a work around on your problem. If the person on the phone wont do it, ask for the manager.

I had the same case. Philippines Consulate screwed up with my passport renewal and just returned my old passport so i could continue with my travel to the Philippines. I just called Hawaiian Airlines, explained my situation and they changed the name on my ticket immediately without additional charges.

PhilippinesHow did u meet your fiancee/fiance/wife/husband?
Pimping is not an appropriate word.

If someone would search the internet:

Pimp means one who finds customers for a prostitute; a procurer.

Pimped, Pimp·ing - To serve as a procurer of prostitutes.

If the women here in VJ met their husbands by pimping themselves in the internet... is Linda suggesting that those women are prostitutes.

I would disagree calling the women who met their husbands/fiance in the internet prostitute....

Would this be a TOS violation

PM me. Explain ko sayo don...

I only know usage of BPI international ATM card and BPI transfer of fund for USD 10,000 and up.
rheanickFemalePhilippines2008-10-17 01:23:00
PhilippinesFund transfer from Philippines to USA
You could open an international peso account in BPI with ATM card. You could use ATM anywhere in the world with Maestro, Cirrus logo.

But for transfer of fund from Philippines to US amounting to USD 10,000 or more. Its another matter.

Open an account in BPI or BDO and send the atm visa card in the US. That person can withdraw money thru atm up to $400 a day for a service charge of $2 per withdrawal. That's how my parents sent me money when I was in the US for months.

Maraming salamat sa inyo. Should it be a dollar account? And in my name or anybody in my family will do?

PhilippinesTips on Reporting Marriage & Renewing Passport at the same time in the US

After having read a lot of reviews (more of complaints, actually) regarding dealing with the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles, I pretty much thought we came prepared. Yesterday, we went to the Philippine Consulate in LA and arrived at 11 am. We parked behind the building across the street and we paid $14 when we got done at 3:00 pm. We went inside and got in the elevator. The Consulate is located at the 5th Floor. Just down the hallway, we had our Philippine Passport Size photos taken and we also had another different set of photos taken for the Report of Marriage. The photos came out pretty fast. We now headed down the hallway with everything in hand.
As you enter the Consulate, you have to show your papers to the person sitted behind the desk beside the entance door.If everything is in order, then you will be given a number.
You would have to do the Report of Marriage FIRST. Give all the necessary papers to the Civil Registry booth and then if everything's okay, you need to go to the Cashiers booth to pay $31. Then go back to the Civil Registry and show him the receipt. He will then give you a set of papers that you need to hand over when your number is called to Renew your passport.
4 hours later our numbers were called. My son first then myself. Just hand over the requirements and also the set of papers that the Civil Registry gave you so that your new passport will reflect your new married name. Sign and do the thumb printing. Now, you have to go and pay the fee to the Cashier. It's $50 plus $6 for priority mail. Because I definitely, do not want to go back there anymore and pick it up. Your choice though. You can pick it up or have your passport mailed to you. We were out of there 15-20 minutes from the time our numbers were called.

TIPS:

1) Try NOT TO GO on a Monday. There were a LOT of people yesterday. They said Wednesdays & Thursday are really quiet. Be there as soon as they open.
2) Park behind at their own buliding lot. You can have your parking ticket validated at the Releasing counter of the Philippine Consulate and ONLY pay $3 even if you're parked the whole day. NEVER park in front. Yes, it is metered parking but I heard a lot gets towed at the strike of 4 pm.
3) For Report of Marriage - Make 5 (FIVE) photo copies of Marriage Contract, 5 (FIVE) photo copies of bride & grooms Birth Certificate and passport data page.
I only made 4 photo copies because that's what I read on their website. The extra copy was the "set of papers" that the Civil Registry gave me to be handed to the person in charge for renewing your passport. Not to worry, down the hall where I got my pictures taken, he has a photo copier as well so, everything is pretty much there on the 5th floor ( except for snacks!). The rest of the requirements you can get at their website. Just take not of the revisions I just mentioned.
4) Get your number first and THEN have your photos taken.
4) Have your photos taken there, It's $7 for 4 Philippine Passport Size photos and $2 -3 for 2 photos with white background for the Report of Marriage. (You'll be needing 4 photos for each groom & bride) and 25 cents for 1 photo copy. Make sure you go to the right one because there is another photo shop on the 5th floor that charges more. The cheap photo shop office is located on the same side of the Mens comfort room. Sorry, I forget to get the room number.
A lot of Filipinos complained because the Consulate were very strict with the photo requirement. They had theirs done at Walgreens, CVS, Costco and other professional photo shops only to be rejected. Money down the drain. So save yourself the hassle and money and just have your picture taken there. It's real quick. Less than 5 minutes and it's done. Make sure you wear a top with a collar. Bangs away from your face and ears showing.
5) The Consulate observes Lunch Break from 12-1 pm. You can wait inside while they take their lunch. There a seats inside.
6) Bring some snack & drinks but be discrete about it. Supposedly it's not allowed but some still brought stuff in because no one is there to check, most specially during lunch break. There is also a kiosk on the 1st floor where you can buy drinks & snacks.
7) Bring whatever to pass the time away. Electronics are allowed.
8) If you ARE still in the Phillipines, it is MUCH, MUCH better to renew your passport there.
9) Other Philippine Consulates in the US have different requirements. This post is intended only for those who are doing their Report of Marriage AND Renewal of Passport in Los Angeles.
I hope this helps!

CHEERS!!!

LA outreach is much better....if you are able to reserve a slot, you only need to spend less than 30 minutes to process both your report of marriage and passport renewal.

Last Oct 9, online status shows RFE was sent to my fiance (USC). He is still waiting for hard copy.

I have a copy of all documents sent to CSC. When i reviewed my G-325A, i was shocked when i noticed that i placed my father's middle name instead of his last name.

Im quite worried with this mistake. crying.gif

Has anyone been in this scenario before. I would like to ask for advise on how to correct this mistake.

Hi Emma,

We are of the same scenario. We received an RFE notice last Oct 9. We are yet to find out the details of RFE.

The postive thing about this RFE, at least someone is working on our papers... Once we got the mail we just need to work on it FAST and pray for NOA2 approval soon.

As mentioned by Stepha, there is an pinned RFE thread. I have been reading it for the past few days to get some pointers.

Just hang on there.

You have two options:

Option 1: Handwritten the date on the back ont he picture and send it placed in a plastic bag.
Option 2: Attach your pictures on a white paper, on the space below your pictures, indicate the date, names and location.

We did option 2 but we also added photcopy of my fiance's passport to indicate entry as proof of our meeting.

You could also send your latest pictures.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports10 Workers to Tip This Season
Tipping this holiday season may sound too fancy for your budget. But when you consider that many of the people you tip get anywhere from 8 to 68 percent of their income from tips, you may want to give these helpful folks a break and plan for an added service charge.
1. Bartender
Base Pay per Hour: $7.30
Tips per Hour: $10.30
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tips: 59%

Fortunately for this service provider, we all tend to get a little more generous as the night goes on. But, it's a good thing when you consider that bartenders are getting the majority of their income from the extra dollars we place on the bar. Typical tip: 10-15 percent of the bar bill.

2. Waiter/Waitress
Base Pay per Hour: $4.60
Tips per Hour: $9.90
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tips: 68%

Wow, nearly 70 percent of your waiter's income is based on that tip that you give. So, if you think that a bottle of wine would make a nice addition to your steak dinner, be ready to pay the service charge along with it. Typical tip: 15-20 percent of the bill, 20 percent at fine restaurants or if you have a large group.

3. Massage Therapist
Base Pay per Hour: $26.30
Tips per Hour: $4.80
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tips: 15%

Between lugging heavy shopping bags, traveling thousands of miles and trying to tolerate your family's funky quirks, you may be a little tense. Wouldn't a rejuvenating rub down clear you mind? Typical tip: 10-20 percent of the total, 20 percent if it is a really great massage.

4. Hairstylist
Base Pay per Hour: $9.90
Tips per Hour: $3.50
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tips: 26%

Oh, if you could only get that perfect cut and color before those annual holiday get-togethers. You can! Just remember that your hairstylist relies on you to provide nearly 30 percent of their income. Typical tip: 15 percent of the total.

5. Concierge
Base Pay per Hour: $13.80
Tips per Hour: $1.50
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tips: 10%

How about an evening in the big city, complete with a hotel stay, a stage show and a romantic table for two? It sounds nice but could require some planning. Let your concierge do all the work and then make sure to say thanks. Typical tip: $5-10 is average, more for special services or favors.

6. Doorman
Base Pay per Hour: $11.00
Tips per Hour: $4.90
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tips: 31%

Nothing is quite as exciting as getting dressed up to go out on the town then having the front door magically swing open in front of you as the doorman whistles for your taxi. How much does he deserve for this luxurious treatment? Typical tip: $1 dollar or more for help with luggage or finding a taxi on the street.

7. Parking Attendant
Base Pay per Hour: $8.90
Tips per Hour: $3.70
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tip: 29%

You toss them the keys and when they toss them back, how much do they get? Typical tip: $1-2, depending on how far they travel to get your car.

8. Van Driver
Base Pay per Hour: $10.20
Tips per Hour: $1.30
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tips: 11%

Whether you're off to visit grandpa and grandma or are helping coordinate their arrival at your house, you will likely need to tip an airport or hotel van driver. Typical tip: $1 or more per bag, especially if they help you with your luggage.

9. Musician/Singer
Base Pay per Hour: $49.10
Tips per Hour: $4.10
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tips: 8%

No holiday party is complete without a jazzy guitar riff playing in the background or a bright-lipped brunette cooing about winter. But, what are these pleasant sounds worth? Typical tip: $35-75 per person.

10. Taxi Driver
Base Pay per Hour: $16.10
Tips per Hour: $4.40
Percent of Total Hourly Income in Tips: 21%

Taxi drivers zig-zag through congested main strips and zoom along back roads to get you there on time. What sort of tip do they deserve? Typical tip: 15 percent of fare, $1 per bag up to 5 bags, $2 per bag for 5 or more bags or if bags are very heavy (50 lbs. each).

Sources: Median base pay per hour, median tip per hour and percent of total hourly income in tips data are provided by Payscale.com. Tipping data provided by The Original Tipping Page.

Hello everyone!

Thank you first off to those taking the time to read my question and give advice I really appreciate it!!

- I have started planning things for our wedding ( I know its seems really really early but I was surprised to find out that its isn't) I filed in september and I still did not recieve my NOA2 yet but I am trying to do the impossible and estimate when I should book the Chapel that we want to get married in. I decided that since we filed in early september that he should be here before June 2009. I know that it is very well possible he will however not be here untill after June but I just dont want to even think about that. I was surprised to find out when I called that already the chapel is almost booked! So I have a decision to make as to whether or not to put down a deposit to hold June 13th 2009. I figure I should just do it because if worst comes to worst I will get my 300 dollars back but I would just like to know if my estimate seems logical. Does June 2009 fit what I think the average is? I was hoping for some advice from all of you smile blush.gif please

I had B1 visa. It does not make our processing any faster. See my signature for our timeline.

Can anyone tell me if obtaining a K1 is any faster for a B1/B2 Visa BCC holder? I am turning in my packet next week and I was hoping that since she already has an Alien Registration number that she we will move along faster since some of her background has already been investigated.

Thanks
Drew and Areli

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHELP!!!
I would assume that she has a 5 year multiple entry visa. If that's the case, your girlfriend just need to get out of the US. To minimize cost, she coould go to another coutry near U.S., not necessary back to Columbia.

Her business visa allows her to stay for a certain period of time in the U.S. and then get out and do re-entry. Any country will do.

OK my girlfriend is from Columbia, she is here in the US( I met her here) on a 5 year business Visa. She has been here 2 years and has never left. The immigration is telling her she needs to leave the country for a month and then re-enter. She can no longer make any money in the US to support herself and 2 kids, any money has to come from Columbia to stay here. If she goes back home to columbia with her family i know she wont come back. I have a huge dilemma, we have been dating for 2 months and i think that's too soon for marriage but not out of the question if i have no other options. I know if she leaves for a month, I may never see her again. Can i get a fiancee vise for her even though she is here? I am just trying to buy some time for us to get closer before we marry, if that happens. I don't want to see her go, it breaks my heart to think about it. Please advise we only have a month (maybe) before i have to make a decision
thanks

Once you are AOS approved, with SSN and EAD, you could go back to them and apply. No harm in trying. yes.gif

Well, my only goal is to be with my Bebe ko, wherever he is. I am just thinking if it is possible that the person could acquire two petitions at the same time. It isn't really my concern (working visa), just trying to see some considerations. I got some offers for work in my fiance's place that is why I ask. But I want our K-1 petition pursue. I'll just cross my finger that the company will keep my resume. tongue.gif If not, then I'll just try my luck.

Thank you for info. good.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWorking Visa over Fiance Visa
The question here is what do you want? Do you want to move forward with fiancee visa or working visa? Given this two opportunities, which one has a bigger role in obtaining your personal goals/plans?

Working visa is faster as compared with fiancee visa. Data is from my officemates who transfered to U.S.

I was also given an opportunity to choose between fiancee or working visa. After analysis, my fiance and I made a decision to move forward with K1 visa.

QUOTE (adiiann @ Nov 3 2008, 09:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I have some questions that some of VJ'ers maybe can answer. What if there's a company in US that will sponsor your working visa while you are on the process of fiance visa, what are the implications of this? How long does the working visa get approval? Is it okay that company will file working visa while the fiance visa is on the process?

Thank you for sharing.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYeah! K-1 Approved, with child. Now I'm not so sure.
Reading your post, my understanding is that you are inquring why your fiance is delaying her trip to U.S.

Possible reasons (based on my analysis):

1. For filipino, christmas is a very important celebration. And as much as possible, spend it with the whole filipino family. Most of Filipinos go back to the philippines during chritsmas. I would say, during your marriage life with a filipina, expect to spend christmas in the philippines.

2. For your fiancee, philippines is still her "comfort zone", she has her family here... Sometimes it's hard to uproot yourself.

3. Some of the filipino are quite shy and quiet, possibly due to upbringing.. but im not implying that all filipina are shy and quiet...

Difference in culture is already at play in your present predicament.

For your approach, I would suggest to do it calmly, slowly and try to stretch your patience and understanding.... It's not easy...

BTW, i will be transferring to Phoenix, Arizona after my visa approval. Hopefully before Christmas. If she wants to meet a filipina, she could PM me.

I had a long winded story but opted to just give the facts, still long enough.

1) Trip to Philippines resulted in my friend at the time getting pregnant
2) Have spent around $15K in the last year in a second trip to meet the family and supporting her. ( new apartment, furniture, food, medical bills, k-1 processing... )
3) Applied for K-1 visa ( I've done most of the work until recently ) She has has to fly to the capital to do medical, interview for her and our new born.
4) The wait is finally over! Everything is approved! Is what we all work tirelessly for and dream of. I wanted so bad to have her and our child here for Thanksgiving and through the holidays.
5) She tells me that she wants to spend Christmas with her family.
6) #######!

Now I want to be as understanding as possible but when I ask her why, I get excuses.
Cost, airfare is more expensive. Like an apartment and living expenses for another month is cheap? And what difference does it make, I'm the one paying.
Time, can't get everything moved in time. We are giving everything to her family ( again, everything in question I paid for ). Why not just tell them to raid the apartment and take what they want, she is not a moving company.
Mood, doesn't want to bring me down over the holidays. Ok, because I'm so much happier spending them without my family.

When confronted her with the concept of spending the holidays without our child, she freaked out and said "No way!" But isn't that essentially what she is making me do? So angry and frusterated, I'm about to call the whole thing off! I love her, she says she loves me but actions are speaking louder. I would do anything for my child but going into a ( potentially ) bad marriage is not something I am willing to do. I do know that she worries about leaving her country and family, going somewhere new. But she is coming here to be with me so we can raise our child together. ( Prescott, AZ ) Is a very nice place and I have a great house ( 4 bed/ 3 bath ) and job ( almost $100K/yr ). 1 month is not going to make a huge difference in a lifetime, but spending the first Christmas without my child is crushing. As hopefully what comes through in this rant is that I do care and want to do what is best for us and our child. I have been treated like an outsider the whole time and am tired of it, I've done just about everything I can for her and her family. I could have bailed anytime but have chosen to stick it out and do what I feel is right. While I could put my foot down and make things happen, I am wanting her to figure this out herself. I don't understand the dynamics of filipinas fully and have always been frusterated by her lack of ability to explain herself and what she is feeling ( shy and quiet ). If there is anyone out there who can clarify/translate? I appreciate all responses, good and bad.

I see three options.
1) Use the K-1 Bring her here and marry her. Big risk with potential for big downfall.
2) Stall and hope things get better. We have 6 months before she has to come here. Once I miss Christmas, I don't care. I've waited a year for this and now with the wind taken out of me, I don't care if I wait another year.
3) Drop the K-1, don't get married. Look to get a tourist visa. Bring her here for a few months so she can see what it is like and if this is what she really wants. If we decide it is, re-apply for the k-1...and start over.
4) Bail on the whole concept, start negotiating what she needs for monthly maintenance. My child has dual citizenship so I can visit and someday they will be able to fly here for visits. I have no doubt someday my child will want to come here and live with dad.

And no, there is no #5. Bail and forget about her and our child. I want to be part of my kid life.

If you want to tell me to run, fine. And you can say what you want about me. But don't be rude or mean toward my fiance, I do care and will continue to support her and my child regardless. I'm open to suggestions and options, I've only put down what I can see. Maybe someone out there has a better solution?
