PhilippinesNarita layover and Hawaii as POE

Hello Everyone,

In a week I will be traveling to the US, alone... I am not at all nervous coz i am already used to flying... what concerns me most is the following:

1) I have an 8 hour layover at Narita airport... any suggestions what to do? I do not have plan to leave the airport although I know I can, and I actually have friends who lives nearby... but I just do not want to bother them...

2) How is Hawaii as POE? I will appreciate first hand detailed experience.

Thanks!!!

If you are flying business class, you could stay, eat, and sleep in your airline lodge.

PhilippinesLiving in the Philippines

Hello,
I plan to retire and move to the Philippines while my fiancee processes her annulment. Once she gets her annulment then I plan to apply for a I-129F. I have been told by others that by moving and living in the Philippines would send red flags for my petition. Does anyone here my any experience in living in one's fiancee country and having problem processing the I-129F? Would it be better to get married first and then apply for the I-130 instead? Thank you all.

I forgot the name of the couple. There is one case in VJ that the USC resided in the Philippines while his petition was in process. The USC was required to go back to the US and establish his residency before they got an approval.

PhilippinesCENOMAR problem

NO COMMENT......

But I am calling the attention of the moderators for this particular member who said a FILIPINO crab mentality. At's sounds like a Discrimination. And she just replied my post just to agrivate me and want to start a fight.

Maryl,
Just tell your USC friend to withdraw the petion and re-file after the woman got her annulment done and annotated in her marriage certificate. Also, tell the filipina to straighten up her papers and life first, before she married your USC friend.

And once the filipina gets to the US, i would be very careful with her. She has an attitude that she would lie just to get what she wants. Starting a relationship with lies is not a good foundation for marriage.

My sister's brother-in-law have is doing a research study. Could you please help him on his research study? thank you.

WHAT ARE YOUR REASONS WHY YOU CHOSE TO MARRY A FOREIGNER:

because...

a. good attitude or character
b. good educational background
c. financially stable
d. stable job
e. good physical appearance
f. arranged marriage
g. your family agree that you will marry a foreigner
h. your friends agree also that you will marry a foreigner

Thank you in advance sa lahat na mag response for his research study..

none of the above kasi sya lang ang pumatol sa akin...

Seriously, the question sucks. This wont pass for a thesis question. Tell your relative to modify it, be more specific. And since you have friends in facebook or friendster, you might have better answers from them.

PhilippinesQuestion for those who have interviewed already...

Naturally, at the NVC stage an I-864 was submitted and accepted before the visa interview. Now, the embassy it appears wants an I-864 at the interview in Manila.

Am I supposed to prepare and send a new I-864 to my spouse? (I have also changed address and job. The NVC acknowledge my change of address.)

OR

Send a copy of the original I-864 I prepared months and months ago? (New one)
I intend to send the 2009 W2 and 1040 also... (The original I-864 was for the 2008 tax period.) - send also the latest one (2009)

One more thing. Am I supposed to send a notarized letter of employment and wages? The Manila embassy instructions talk about sending the I-864 and then throws in this part about employment letter...
- employment letter using employer's letter head, wages could be on white sheet only, both not notorized when my petitioner sent those paper last 2008 unless there is changes in 2009/2010

If any of you have interviewed I deeply appreciate your input...

If you are the petitioner what is the safest venue to send overnight documents to PI? Specifically four hours north of Manila in Pangasinan.... DHL? Federal Express? USPS? - Fedex coz we were time constraint then though a little bit expensive but it arrived on time

Thank you! I appreciate yor help!

Philippinesquick question

im going to the philippines in may and i mostly relying on my credit card for expenses so my question is can the philippines use american express.

There are some establishment that accepts american express (AMEX). You could see in their entrance a notice that AMEX is accepted in their establishment. BTW, I'm referring to Manila, makati, ortigas area. If you dont see any notice, you have to ask first before you transact your business.

I had an international dollar AMEX account in the philippines before. If you are going to the province, 4- 5 star resort/hotels do accept them.

If you need cash advance, you could withdraw from any ATM showing PLUS word similar to the one printed in your AMEX card. I could be wrong with the PLUS word, just look in your credit card.

If you are in the Philippines, try to have Visa or better yet, cash.

PhilippinesCooking in the US?

Go to Fou Lee's at Beacon Hill. It has Filipino spices and ingredients. It also has the ambiance of a Pinoy public market - crowded!

Tahoma likes my tinola, monggo and adobo. I try to cook at least once a week since I am not really fond of cooking. Usually, we buy cooked food from the Filipino restaurants around Seattle. We have at least 5 Pinoy restaurants here. :star:

Tahoma,

What are the name of filipino restaurants here in Seattle? I'm here for the weekends for my workshop. Do you have any suggestion?

PhilippinesMarried life is great

I've bee married to my beautiful Filipina wife for over a month now and I'm so happy that she got to the USA problem free. It was worth all the time, money and effort for her to get here.

But being in the midwest right now has its major downfall. I live in a town that is almost a third Hispanic/Mexican and there are no Filipinos here at all. When my wife and I are out in public we get so many rude stares that I can't believe, even from the Mexicans. My suspicion is that some people are just racist and too ignorant to realize she's not a Mexican in the first place. Anybody ever get that mix-up as well? I didn't realize the full extent of how narrow-minded dumb hicks are in rural communities in the midwest until I got married to a foreigner and started walking around with her in the grocery store.

I don't care what other people think, but after awhile it gets really discouraging and irritating. Her first impression of the USA was pretty much people acting in that way. I had to take her to a big city to show her how much nicer the people are in general. People think most small towns in the midwest are full of nice, heart-warming welcoming friendly folk and it's NOT TRUE! I've been all over the United States enough to know that. If you're an American man marrying a Filipina that's moving here...don't expect her to like small town midwest USA!

We want to not be treated like circus freaks walking around, or just a little respect. Doesn't everyone want that?

If you are uncomfortable, just change your residence.

Philippinesmanaging Finances

I'm sorry about that reading and replying so much to the post here in VJ makes me careless. For me 100$ a month is too little we sent my family 300 to 500$ a month depending on what my family in the Phils need it. Only my husband is working and he doesn't have a problem with that.
Just talk to her about it and make sure that both of you understand that her family will always be supported.

If 300 to 500 is the amount you think should be appropriate to your family and your husband has no problem with it then so be it.

If the OP thinks $100 is enough then it is their agreement.

The amount of money to be send to the Philippines is dependent on the agreement between couples.

Philippinesmanaging Finances

Hello All,

Need some help regarding the Filipino culture regarding Finances.

My Wife recently got a good job here at the same company I work for. She has been here for about a year and ahalf. Between me paying for the wedding, Winter clothes for her, and house stuff (i bought the house for us) we got into alot of credit card debt. Now that she has a Job making almost as much as me, we should be able to pay down our debts.

The Problem is my wife feels that the money she makes is her's and that she shouldn't have to budget her self. I told her that we should creat a budget so we can put most of our free money towards paying down the debt. I did tell her she can still spend some money to buy various wants but most of OUR money should be going to pay down the debts/bills.

This is really causing a huge fight amongst us. She doesn't seem to get the concept of her money and mine money is OUR money. she said something about the Man should pay for the provisions. I guess she means all the bills.

Please help and give me your advise and if this is really how it is in the Philippines. That the man pays for debts/bills and the woman if she works can use her money as she likes.

Thanks,
John

This is something that you have to sit down and talk seriously. Both of you should have a compromise on this matter.

By the way, her mindset is not shared by all filipina. This is not a cultural thing. It is only her mindset that she wants to insist in your relationship.

PhilippinesPhilippine Marriage/Foreign Divorce - K1 Visa Question
QUOTE (Adam & May @ Dec 10 2009, 01:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
How is it documented on a Japanese Divorce who is the initiator?

Also, has anyone else been in this situation and was able to get a K1 approved without getting the Philippine marriage terminated?

I asked my friend who was divorced in Japan. My friend is the one who filed for divorce. According to my friend, the filer or initiator of the japan divorce is indicated in the family registry of japan.

The filer is also indicated in the divorce paper. If you want to see it for yourself, you could ask for a copy of the ddivorce paper and have someone translate it for you.

PhilippinesPhilippine Marriage/Foreign Divorce - K1 Visa Question
QUOTE (Adam & May @ Dec 10 2009, 08:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It seems like this is the process we are doing. Filed in October 2008, refiled in Family Court Jan 2009. May confirmed that this is toward the Judicial Recognition of Foreign Divorce.

After jumping through several hoops like hearing postponements, running out of session time and many requests for additional requirements (only being revealed one at a time when the privious requirement is completed) the last hearing was September 2009. All we are doing now is waiting for the judge to make a ruling. Her lawyer keeps telling us (speculation) there are many cases ahead of us and that is why it is taking so long. We have asked him to try to find out how many more cases are ahead of us.

With what the Consult Interviewer told her today...
QUOTE
All you have to do is submit your Philippine marriage certificate and your Japanese Divorce Certificate and you're done.
QUOTE

she wants to file our K1 petition now.

There are three possible result of her K1 interview if you filed for K1 prior to her getting an annotation on her marriage certificate:

1. Immediate Approval: If she will be interviewed by a CO that would accept her Japan divorce paper even though her CENOMAR indicates that she is married.

2. White Slip: If the CO requires her that she should have her marriage certificate annotated of her Japan divorce

3. Denial: If the CO would stick with the CENOMAR requirement. CENOMAR would indicate that she is married. If she is married with someone else, she is not qualified for K1 petition

Approval depends on the CO. If the person who interviewed her on he tourist visa is the same person who would interview her in your K1 petition, then you have no problem. But nobody knows who would be the CO for your K1 interview. It could be someone else.

Just my two cents.

PhilippinesPhilippine Marriage/Foreign Divorce - K1 Visa Question
QUOTE (Adam & May @ Dec 10 2009, 12:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
May had an appoint for a tourist visa at the USEM today. They told her no.

The interviewer said" She is not qualified for a US tourist visa because she as a US citizen fiance. You did not establish your social family and econmic ties outside the U.S. are sufficient to overcome the presumtion of immigrant intent. "

She explained that although she was divorced in Japan in 2006 she is still listed as married per Philippine Law and therefore couldn't get married in the US.

Her interviewer said "That is silly. Since divorce is accepted in the US and you have a valid divorce on record you could get married in the US."

She asked, "What if we submit or K1 Visa application and the US embassy discovers that I still I am still legally married in the Philippines?"

He said, "All you have to do is submit your Philippine marriage certificate and your Japanese Divorce Certificate and you're done."

So, how about it VJers? Are there any other couples with a fiance from the Philippines who was previously married, the ceremony took place in the Philippines then ended up geting divorced years later in the foreigner's country?

Since you had a valid divorce decree, did you also go through the legal process to terminate that marriage in the Philippines prior to submitting your K1 visa application or did you simply present your Philippine Marriage Certificate and your foreign divorce papers at the K1 Visa Interview at USEM (and it was accepted)? Has anyone experience what the Interviewer said?

We would love to hear from you.

Thanks

The question is who filed for divorce? If the japanese is the one who initiated and filed for divorce, then your fiancee could just submit the divorce paper. I'm not sure of the procedure, but her divorce should be documented in NSO.

But if she is the one who initiated the the separation, it should be an annulment.

I only had 60 days to prepare our private garden wedding. Since i want my mom to atted my wedding, we processed her paper a month before our wedding. She arrived on time.I had a private wedding. I bought my dress here in the US, hired an italian chef and an assistant cook to prepare our food, got a band for our music, hired a photographer.

Since my hubby and i were not able to invite our other friends in the wedding, we also had a post wedding party.

I had something new, something borrowed and something blue. I had the most wonderful maid of honor who helped me with everything.

PhilippinesYou're lucky to have him

I met hundred of Filipinos in United States specifically California, Nevada, and Filipinas on internet I chatted with. Sometimes, I'm wondering how my other fellow Filipinos think or feel or handle about people who say you're lucky to have him once they found out about your status. I personally didn't dream of marrying an American, but a Briton man. Yes, I did date someone from London for four years. I broke up with him due to his perfectionist problem. For example: he told me how to sit, how to hold glass, spoon, teaspoon, don't burp like a cow, and so on! Of course, I appreciated he taught me how to be formal included how should I live my life. However, I get pretty little suspicious with women telling me HOW LUCKY I AM TO HAVE MY HUSBAND BECUASE HE BROUGHT ME IN UNITED STATES. Honestly, I become skeptical about women from my own country that some of them may not looking for genuine relationship, but take advantage of foreigner men looking for good Filipinas-we are known as good mother and wife.

Here is my questions:
1.) Do you believed in choosing partner that you have to be wise or just go with I may be lucky with him?
or
2.) What do you think of Filipina women that just looking for men on internet hoping to get lucky?

3.)Do you ever think it will affect our next generations if we get more bad Filipinos in US? If yes, are you willing to help the immigration someday to prevent this case?

If a fellow filipina would tell me "HOW LUCKY I AM TO HAVE MY HUSBAND BECUASE HE BROUGHT ME IN UNITED STATES", i would think that she married her husband coz she just wanted to come to the US. Her hubby is her ticket to the US.

I also heard of some mayayabang na filipina from my friends. The type that nakapag-asawa lang nang amerikano akala mo kung sino na.

Just be careful in choosing your friends.

Just do it the legal way. Verify the length of time he would be out of status and the corresponding consequences. There is no problem going back to the philippines. CR1/IR1 visa is quite fast right now.

edit on the 2nd sentence. The rest stays the same: Verify the length of time for the processing of his papers. It is advisable that he should not be out of status.

PhilippinesPre-nuptial agreement

As to what I can remember, he will be RECEIVING a good amount of inheritance from his mom. That's prolly why he asked me for pre-nup.
However, my then fiance now husband talked over things and I clearly cited to him that if he doesn't trust me, or he is in doubt of me, then, he is very free to not marry me. He apologized and now, we are about to celebrate our 2nd yr anniv.

Ohh now i understand. In his case he does not have to worry so much, depending on the states, inheritance is normally protected.

If i'm also in your scenario, I won't sign either. :)
rheanickFemalePhilippines2010-03-22 13:21:00
PhilippinesPre-nuptial agreement

I understand why your aspiring husband would ask you to sign pre-nup. But as echoed above, he should have asked you earlier even before you arrived here in the States. As for me, when I WAS asked to sign one, I NEVER sign it since he doesn't even have assets to begin with. I was pretty insulted at first.
If you know your intentions are true and clean on marrying your husband, I would stand on my point that he doesn't have to ask me a pre-nup.
Marriage is "what ever is yours is mine, and whatever is mine is yours".

Your case of not signing the pre-nuptial is understandable coz as you mentioned he does not have assets.

But why would a guy without any assets would ask her wife-to-be sign pre-nuptial? Does it indicate that the pre-nuptial is so widely acceptable here that even a guy without assets do it.

I always associate pre-nuptial with assets. Please educate me if i'm wrong. If there is no assets, i could not find the logic in doing a pre-nuptial without assets.

PhilippinesPre-nuptial agreement

Hi.just came to the states last month and we plan to have a civil wedding ceremony this coming 28th.But before that my fiance is asking me to sign for pre-nuptial agreement. He is widowed for 9 years and have 2 sons not living with us.I think he dont trust me!!if ur in my situation guys what's ur reaction or opinion.Do u agree with prenup?any comments pls.

He has two sons. He has to protect also his two sons for this upcoming marriage. For your own protection, you should have your own lawyer to look on the prenup agreements. Prenup works both ways, it would also protect your assets.

PhilippinesCan hubby claim me in his taxes?

Hey all!

First of all, I wanna greet everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I hope everybody who is with their loved ones had a great time during the holidays!
And to those who are not, just hang in there and you will be with your beloved soon.
Anyways, now that it's January, everybody is preparing the forms needed for their taxes.

I'm wondering if it's possible that hubby can claim me in his taxes?
I'm currently unemployed with a 2-year Conditional GC.
If yes, is there any papers that we need to present with the filing of taxes?

That's all!
Your replies are greatly appreciated!
Have a good day!

PhilippinesPinay nurses as USRN's

Hello all! It's been 2 months since my last post. It's amazing how much it changed here in VJ in 2 months. It took a while for me to figure out how to post. LOL!

Anyways, this topic is for all Pinay nurses out there who are here in the US working as RN's. I have a couple of questions for you guys out there. I recently got offered a position in a LTC facility this month. Though I have mixed emotions regarding the position and the feeling that I'm back in the nursing field. I took a year off for myself to adjust my life here at the same time to get licensed. It seems overwhelming and I just don't know what to expect.

With your current job, how was your orientation phase? I did asked the recruiter on how long the orientation phase is, but she told me that it totally depends on the employee. They don't wanna pressure new employees as we are all different and not a lot of people catch up with a snap of a finger. So, how many months did it took you to learn everything?

How was your relationship with your co-workers? I get anxious to people of higher authority---people that speaks the English language well. I speak the language good but sometimes, my nerves get the best of me and I stutter. Really, I think it's embarassing. Makes me feel soo little of myself, but I'm always trying.

LTC facility is new to me. My previous working experiences were in Labor and Delivery as well as Peds. So, its typically a different world. I haven't picked a specialty yet though I am open on trying different things to figure out if this is fit for me. Can you gimme some advices with regards on how to establish that trust and rapport with your clients? How do you greet them?

Lastly, I am scared of committing errors that may endanger my patient's lives. I know that we are not perfect and committing mistakes helps us learn. How do you avoid these?

I'm sorry this is kinda long. I would appreciate any replies or advices.
Thanks!

Not a nurse here but i would like to comment regarding "people of higher authority". Dont be nervous of them. Tao rin sila. During my teens i was anxious when i'm in the presence of doctors. When my barkada became a doctor, i realized then na tao rin lang sila. Now, having friends who are business owners, vice president of big company and PhD's, i realized na tao lang sila and i should not be anxious with them.

PhilippinesCan I claim my fiancee as a dependent for 2009 taxes?

Howdy,

I supported my sweetie for all of 2009, but of course she wasn't here in the US. Anyone know if I can claim her as a dependent for tax purposes for last year? If so, is there anything special I need to do? She doesn't have a SSN yet... I have receipts for all the money sent though. I've never claimed a dependent before :P

If I can't claim her due to non-citizenship, is there some other way I can deduct those expenses? Last year might be rough on me as far as taxes go, so I'm looking for all the options to lessen the blow.

It's funny how I earned a lot less money last year than in any of the preceding several years, due to the recession, and find myself in a position where I'm probably going to owe taxes instead of getting a return.

Anyways, thanks in advance. :)

PhilippinesName Change after Marriage

Hello VJers.

Long time no see!!!
We just got home from Vegas where we got married. Thanks for your wishes, it was a dream come true and truly a remarkable one.

Now that we have just requested a copy of our marriage certificate from the Clark County office, we would want to gather insights on how you did your name change. I know it varies from one state to the other thats why I called up the Seattle courts and inquired about the said case. The clerk said that IF I will just take my husband's last name, I don't really have to go to the courts and apply for a name change. However, if I will have to take my maiden last name and include it in my name, then I'll have to go through the process of changing name legally.

To make matters clear. Example: Donna Mae Reyes Hunt is married to Jason Ford-ham Estrella. Thus, after marriage, if the bride decides to have - Donna Mae Estrella - then theres no need for a name change. However if she decides to have Donna Mae Reyes Estrella / Donna Reyes Estrella, then she has to go to the courts for name change.

How did you do yours? by US laws and regulations?

Thank you again for your insights.

You just use whatever name you want when you file for your adjustment of status. Your official name in the US would be tha one in your GC.

Philippinesvisitor visa

my friend just got his fiance here to the states, and wants to know if it would be able to get his wife's family a visitor visa. He wants this before the 90 day period, so they could be here for their wedding. Is it possible and likely to get a visitor visa in that short a time frame?

just apply for tourist visa. Just go to the USEM website and search for the tourist visa requirements. If they have their passports ready and other documents proving that they are coming back to the philippines, they could have apply for interview and get the visa (if approved)in less than a month. They could buy their ticket after the approval.

I got my mom tourist visa in less than a month. Bought her ticket few day before she left the Philippines. I was still able to get a very good deal.

PhilippinesRenewed Passport and trying to buy tickets to Philippines

Hey all,

My wife just renewed her passport in San Francisco 2 weeks ago since her old one expired. I remember seeing something about a new passport number being assigned, is that true? The question I ask is because I am trying to book a flight to the Philippines on EVA Air and it is asking for her passport number. I don't know if they change the passport numbers for sure or not. If they do change the number, do you think I could I put her old passport number in the box? Trying to book the flight for May and request time off from work, but now I am not certain because her passport wont be released until April 29. Anyone have any answers? I tried calling EVA Air but kept getting people who barely spoke recognizable English and I don't even think they understood what I was talking about.

Eric

Passport number changes everytime she renew her passport.

PhilippinesAdam Carrolla bashes Manny Pacquaio & Philipines

Adam Carrolla, a two bit hack is notoriously bashing entire nationalities again.

He recently did a podcast where he indicates the Phils are nothing more than Manny and sex tours. Take a listen here.
Not the first time he has done this I'm just surprised there's not more uproar.

My link

Thoughts?

He is after the popularity and attention. With the reaction he is getting from other people, his approach to popularity is successful.
Feed this kind of attitude, another popularity seeking moron will be out again to bash the filipinos.

PhilippinesI need advice regarding mother -in-law

I think you have to change your mindset. This is how i see your situation: You are worrying over something that you dont have the capability to fix it. You are worrying about money. Straight solution to that is get a job to contribute with your income. But you would say that you are pregnant and dont have job and could not contribute at all. Then you are back to worrying about money.

Sumasama ba loob mo dahil out of $17,000 eh $5,000 lang ang ginastos sayo.

You married a guy who knows how to take care of her mother, you should be proud of it coz it indicates that he would take care of you and your child.

Be careful where your thinking goes, if you continue with what you are thinking right now, you could become a daughter in law from h*ll. And you have to review your expectations before you married your husband.
