Hi all! This thread is so dead. LOL Well my post will bump it up. Just wanted to come back and note Henry received his 10 year green card.
We were moved to CSC, so I think that sped it up quite a bit. He did not want to apply for US citizenship, but my dad and his sister had a long chat with him over
sorrel and he decided to go for it and applied for citizenship last week. Yeah more paperwork! whohoo! laughing.gif

Elizabeth!!! Good to see you and congrats!

Cashel,

Diana

What's everyone's summer vacation plans?

Well, we were going to go to Arizona, but....unfortunately can't swing it this summer. My son really wants to go to the Outer Banks again this year with his friend, so "my" vacation ....is no mommy time. He's been hardly home so far this summer which is giving me a much much needed break. We only have "off" from soccer the month of July and December and it's too darn expensive to go anywhere in December.

Any plans for you Michele? Coming down to this area for Independence Day, August 5th ?

July 21-22nd has alot going on here in the area, there's a Reggae Wine Festival (Linganore Winery)...every year, alot of fun. My favorite Reggae band is playing Sat night in the area. Artscape is that entire weekend and I just got an email this morning that there is a 2nd Annual Sand Duels BASH at RASH™ Sand Soccer Tournament--for the men it's July 22nd. If only Craig could round up some folks and play --it's at the Inner Harbor ...he only needs 6 others to play.......IF anyone (any of the guys) in this area (Baltimore/DC) is interested, please let me know ASAP !
It would only be about $35.00 to play.

I would love to come down to D.C./Baltimore but I can't get anyone to come with me.
I'm going to Toronto in the fall with my best friend. I would love to go there one year during Caribana, but my friends are afraid to go

Calling on Jamie- :help: Do you remember the site where you can purchase online -I'm not sure if it was a voucher or store credit- for a specific grocery store to help out someone in Jamaica? It basically entailed on online purchase and the person in Jamaica could go to the store and select what they wanted for the amount of money that you purchased online?

Super Plus

Hi Michele :luv:
I have never actually done it but I have heard from others who have done it and had good results. Just remember to check the store locations on the website to make sure that whoever is going to pick them up won't have to go to far.

Thanks Jamie- you're the best! :star:

Ending my journey

I want to say a big thank you to all of you guys and I wish you all the success and happiness in your relationships, I apologise for sullying up the joyfulnes of the board.

I would just like to say that I'm ending my Visa Journey, I don't think my fiance is ready for marriage, we have gone through a lot and I have tolerated a lot to get to this point, I have finally decided that it makes no sense to continue to relationship anymore and I'm officially ending my Journey. Thanks for all you answers and personal messages.

Lee

I am sorry to hear about this, but like everyone else said, at least you realized NOW before you invested any more of your feelings, time, and money....who knows maybe you all will find a way to rekindle sometime in the future....I think its important for us all to remember that not everyone's journey turns out the way that they hope....I know because I speak from experience...but what I do know that we were all sent on this journey to learn something about ourselves, our strengths, our weaknesses, what we can and can not endure, and that is what we can all take from this...no matter how are journey turns out, we are all in it together--that's why we're the "Yaardie Family"...One love (L)

I have a question.... I am wondering if I have a confidential wedding will it make a difference when I go to AOS?? Will they see it as a problem because it isn't public record?? I only plan to keep it that way until we have a religious wedding which will be in October.

Although you can have a small private ceremony- you have to get a marriage license and have it publicly recorded after the ceremony in order for the marriage to be valid.

This Memorial weekend. I am going to my nieces 1 year birthday party whoopie. My brother threw a fit when I wouldnt give him some cheap plastic oriental maracas to my niece last week. I kept saying they are unsafe and break easy which is true but he wouldnt take no for an answer. So I said look you silly do you understand her birthday present know didnt you ask me for instruments!! Ugh know he knows what she is getting

Then I am cleaning my classrooms and packing up for the summer. Getting ready to teach 2nd graders for summer school. Cleaning for Dwains arrival. We decided we will both have our own bathrooms. So I don't fall in the toliet at night  . I really can't wait for next weekend cause he will be here. We have a work party to go to and a free movie in the park. One of those wonderful blow up screens. We are buying our bed and he is helping me move furtinure for our free carpet cleaning. The best party there is a suprise party for him on Sunday! He thinks it is just the immediate family but its all of the family and his 2 guy friends hopefully! Thats our next weekend in a Nutshell. Oh yeah Monday we are going to the science and industry museum to see the new CSI exhibit should be fun. He loves CSI. Then after that he has to stay home why I go to work all week. I feel bad but its only for a month by August we should both be in school.

Sounds good

I found out lately that my fiance has lied to me on more than one occasion, once about a very important issue. I think I'm close to approval or at least an RFE because my file was touched for the first time in over 4 weeks.

Sorry to hear that Wayne. I had an issue w/ my hubby lying to me on a couple occasions - one of the times it was a HUGE thing that he lied about. I ended up forgiving him, but it does make it very hard to trust him sometimes. (We were already married when I found out the big lie) Whatever you do, do not worry about what everyone else thinks. This is YOUR life, your future, and your love - you have to do what makes YOU happy  You still have time to think about it - even after your approval, it still has to go to NVC, then the embassy, then wait for an interview date. Hang in there.

Congrats Ebony! That sounded so easy

Congrats Shauna! You should be good to go now

Well back in April I applied for a job with the county sheriffs office as a records specialist. I went in for civil service testing yesterday (which was pretty hard honestly) but I passed everything with great scores. Now I have to wait to see if I am selected for oral boards (scored interview by a panel including the chief examiner) if I pass that I have to go through background checks and polygraph testing. Then they combine your scores from everything and make a list of the top however many and choose from that. Trust me it is quite the process and they say it will be another 4-6 weeks til they choose someone and it has already been almost 2 months! Crazy!

Anyways I am excited to have passed...hopefully I can pass the rest. Working for the county would pay almost 40% more plus all the great state benefits. Plus once you are in you are in

Good luck Jamie

Jamie- if there's anything I can do; please let me know. It's so disappointing and heartbreaking when someone you love starts acting like that. You've already take some positive steps, and I'm sure you'll continue to do so. Keep your head up;
maintain your dignity and grace. And TRUST ME on this- eventually people will see right through him. More importantly, God knows you and what you've been doing, so that's what matters most. Bad mouthing someone reflects more negatively on the person doing it. The old adage applies, "Actions speak louder than words."

Hey Michele you're welcome to stay here....we have plenty of room !!! We go to DC (on the train) to celebrate Jamaican Independence Day...will mostly likely be Sunday, August 5th. It's alot of fun !! Here was what was happening at last years...
INDEPENDENCE SUNDAY MARKET (an all-day jamaican festival - August 6, 1pm)
@ Gardens of the Orgnaization of American States - FREE; live music by Kymani Marley, Skatalites, Bare Essentials, Lovindeer, Image Band, DJ Romeo, Sprang International, Emcee Jerry D. Jamaican food, arts and crafts on sale.

The year before they had ALL food and drinks for free, last year you had to pay for everything and the food wasn't as good as the year before !

If anyone in our area knows of any other ones....please post them.

But not everyone there[JA] is poor. Not everyone there is suffering from a lack of education and opportunity.

Life in the US is difficult for people that are poor and many people do not have education or opportunity.

True. I have a few Jamaican friends that I met in the U.S. while they were taking accelerated classes at the univeristy here in town. They are back home in Jamaica now. One has a housekeeper and a nanny. Another, along with her husband owns several rental properties, including one property that they rent to tourists. Yet another travels to NY, London and Panama routinely to shop. All are teachers, one is actually a professor. Only one said she would consider moving to the US- and that's because her children are here in the US.

I have travelled a lot within this country and abroad and I have to say; that there is extreme poverty along with wealth in each and every city that I've traveled to, with the exception of Switzerland. However, I'm sure that if I looked harder it (extreme poverty) would have been there too.

Hey Tamisha,

I not fully aware of your situation, but I know how hard it is to be away from the person you love. I see that you were doing the K1, but now you guys are getting married in Oct. Well congratulations on the marriage and wedding. definitely dont push it back. I am sure thats all the both of you have to look forward to. Start all the planning, as much as you can anyway, that will keep you in good spirits when thinking about your relationship.

Me and my guy have gotten inventive with our relationship. We send video diaries to one another. We both have digital cameras with a 1G memory card, plus we have memory sticks. I make videos of my daily life, or I talk to him through the camera and then I email the files to him, and vice versa. He downloads them at the local library or to his memory stick and plays them whenever he gets near a computer. If your guy has a camera or stick, this could be a cool idea for you to have conversations (so to speak) face to face. Otherwise I try to make plans, plans, plans. Everyweek I have a new goal of something I want to do. This keeps me busy. I make plans that help get me prepared for the Jamaica visit, the wedding, immigration, organinzing the house, renovating the house. Anything that can keep me busy, but also keeps me busy with a purpose of being closer to my man. That helps me.

I know its a hard struggle, and you sound like you have so much on your plate. I can see how that all is a nightmare. I nearly had a nervous breakdown last week with all my struggles. But I find solitude and comfort in my SO and he helps me get through it all just by his caring words. You two should just remind yourselves that you are each others rock, and life jacket....whn one is falling, the other has strength to lift you up. Depend on each other, emotionally as husband and wife. I think that will help create a strong bond and foundation that will make this time apart a bit more easier and make your lives together that more beautiful. (L)
