Congrats Shauna....just a small setback. You have wonderful parents

 Everything will be alright.

Hey Everyone,

Well, I just heard from Shauna....they were approved, but...... pending she get a co-sponsor. They would NOT accept the fact that she is making well over proverty level for 2006 and 2004. They ONLY wanted to see that she made over in 2005....even with the tons of documentation that she provided. So I guess you could go in not having a job this year, but prove that you had one last year????

Needleestosay, they are both entirely upset, although there is some good news ....her parents told her that they will now be her co-sponsor. This process will take approximately 2-2 1/2 weeks....

She says thank everyone for all of the well wishes!!

They are going to the pool and drinking !!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Shauna....just a small setback. You have wonderful parents

Hi folks. Got the visa. Saw Shauna and Mike. It was quite an experience. Suffice to say they asked me to sit out the interview. The questions were real personal. None of the how you met, and age ect questions. Will post details later. We are heading out to the movies. Flying to JFK on Sunday

Congratulations Stephen   and enjoy the rest of your trip. Is your finace returning with you?

Elizabeth? You look great but where is the new pic?

I took it down. I feel so "fraudulent" 'cause it's not how I look every day. I usually don't wear makeup or comb my hair. :D Henry also said I should stop posting pics and I won't be satisfied till someone puts my picture on America's Most Wanted.   I also have trouble taking compliments. :(

How can you be "fraudulent" if it's you?? On a weekly basis I have my glam look, my lounging look, my weekend look, my work look(depressed  ); and my hair and makeup, or lack of makeup, reflect it. It's all me. I used to have trouble taking compliments too; until my mother told me to just say "thank you" and then move the conversation on from there. Try it; it'll take time to get used to it but it will work. You have nothing be be ashamed of Elizabeth.

Have a great Friday everyone.

Good luck with the new job. What kind of photography are you doing?

Hey Rhonda,

I do portraits mostly but lately I've been getting hired to shoot special events like fundraiser, parties and christenings. I'm trying to get into weddings (cause that's where all the money is). Thanks for the good luck!! :D

Congrats Kim for getting your AOS interview so soon.

Glad to hear you're feeling a little better Shauna. I know that waiting must be sheer torture. When I'm feeling anxious/blue/nervous I usually try to visualize the one thing/place(for me it's the ocean) that envelopes me in peace, and that helps; momentarily at least.
Jamaica to CTFemale02006-10-24 20:34:00
Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies, at home and a farrin' (Part 3)

Ok ladies (and Trini) - I need advice :(

I am really, really fed up with my job. I'm tired of working almost every weekend, I'm tired of being on all different crazy shifts (in the last year, I've been on 1st shift, 2nd shift, and 3rd shift) and I don't even like my job or the manufacturing industry :crying: I've been casually looking around for other jobs but the problem is that I can't find anything that pays even close to what I make now (not counting the overtime money!). Tony's job is too unstable to rely on his income. He's doing roofing but works outside so they can't work in bad weather - in Michigan that's often :(

I have been at my job for just over 5 years now and I know I would have to start all over again w/ vacation time and all that. I also have really good benefits for me and Tony (medical, dental, vision, 401K, etc) and lots of paid holidays and decent amount of vacation days. But the biggest problem is simply the huge pay cut I would have to take. We're talking $20,000 a year or so! :o So, do I just stick it out for now and continue working ALL the time - no social life, no time for friends/family etc. Or do I take a huge pay-cut and take another job and get to work "normal" hours (Mon. thru Fri. 8 to 5 or whatever) ??? :help: I am so stressed out over all this. I did not slave away at college for over 4 years to have this job that I can't stand and work every weekend

I'm in the same boat as you Rhonda except that I the difference wouldn't be nearly as much as yours. I'm afraid that I would be taking a severe pay cut too and I'm single and don't have any other means of support.
However, I'm updating my resume as we speak.

Can you afford financially to quit? Can you afford mentally not to quit? Has your marriage and other relationships suffered as a result of your working all those hours? Have you asked if you can cut back your hours or do another job at the same place the doesn't demand so much of your time? Can you pay your bills and meet other obigations without the extra $20,000? Also try to estimate your taxes. That extra $20,000 may put you in a higher tax bracket and you may find that a pay cut may not be that severe in you net pay.
If Tony's not working for long stretches of time due to the weather can he collect unemployment or look for temp work during that time? I know here in CT residential builders and crew sometimes don't work for a couple of months in the dead of winter and most will apply for unemployment.

The loss of vacation time and other perks is tough but sometimes we have to do what we have to do to get peace of mind and peace within the family.

If you're that miserable I would continue on that search. Best wishes in whatever you decide.

I am still here.

We are going to have a civil ceremony at the courthouse in Baltimore City that Friday. I work at the Culinary school in baltimore and we have banquet and restaurant faccilities. As a present, my college is throwing me a small reception at no cost for about 25 people. Could not pass up on that offer. Did not feel like doing the decorating for the banquet hall for the ceremony and since the courthouse has a nice wedding chapel area I decided to use them. The time between our arrival and the wedding is too short to plan anything else. We have a lot to take care of when she comes here from deciding which college to attend, my sister's wedding in Florida a week after she gets here, her having to take the Praxis exam for the MD Education board certification on November 14th, a surprise birthday party for her on November 16th , and trying to make sure we cathch all the sales on Black Friday.Phew! I get tired just thinking about it. So I guess I will come up for air sometime in December!

Wow that's nice that your place of employment is doing that for you. But your schedule Stephen, OMG. I'm getting exhuausted just looking at it :P .

even if she never wears the items I think she should kindly accept them, then donate them, never know, she might actually like them items once she see what good taste they have ;)

True.

Or am I marrying the exception to the rule here?

No, I know a few people who will not wear or use anything used by someone else. My former husband was one of them.

My issue with the club at the time had to do with her safety . She lost someone in her family because of violence at a club. I was not thrilled with her going because of that. But it was her decision to make. I expressed my view and allowed her to make her own decision. Hope that clarifies.

Thanks for clarifying. Personal safety is most important.

CALLING IDT PHONE CALL USERS PAST OR PRESENT!!!

Did any of you guys recieve IDT Corpotation information on a court order? There is a class action law suit going on for people who had purchased phone cards from IDT from Jan 1997 until Jan 22, 2007.

The settlement will provide up to 20 million dollars of refund to PIN numbers that consuemers can use to make free domestic phone calls. All clainms must be made during a six month time it may start as early at June 16, 2007.

What is this lawsuit about you ask?? Six lawsuits were filled already.. That the company failed to inform consumers sufficently about the rates and charges for its prepaid and recharable calling cards, and thearby violated various state consumer protection acts and other laws.

questions call 800-921-2781 Toll Free

or visit www.IDT.net or www.uniontelecard.com or www.kmslaw.com

a copy of the settlement agreement is available at www.kmslaw.com or by calling 800-921-2781

Thanks Jax, I will check it out.

Civilization really wouldn't be that far away.....peace & quiet, you can actually see the stars at night since there is no light from the "big cities" -- fresh air......now I'm jealous!!

Girl -- I say GO FOR IT!!! To be able to save that kind of money every month.....that's just fantastic!!![/color]

I'm sure it is beautiful; not disputing that. I was out that way a few years ago and saw some absolutely gorgeous areas.

Jax has your husband said what he prefers? In his line of work he may prefer to have some peace and quite anyways. Do you think he will continue to be a musician?
Jamaica to CTFemale02007-03-07 22:03:00
Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies, at home and a farrin' (Part 3)

I wouldn't move to a town of 6 people to save money-but hey- that's me. I'm a city girl; I can't live too far from the mall.

Me too! I like going upnorth to my parents cabin (it's in the middle of nowhere) but I could never live up there. I would go crazy  But yes, I think the biggest question may be if the neighbors/town will accept an inter-racial couple. Sometimes it's a lot different in the country than the city.

I lived in both environments a home is a home if there is love. We can drive to get places. My family has owned this place since the 1800's. It would be difficult for some I know. Saving 800 dollars a month and having him concentrate on school would be awesome.

We could play are music as loud as we want and no one would say a thing. Knowing how Jaers player there music it would be a great place to rock on  .

Thanks for all your guys input on this.

I just sold some books online for 96 dollars that should help cover his medical cost. Thinking about ebay next. Has anyone sold things on Ebay?

All the love in the world wouldn't get me to live in a town that size. I need to know that there are people around me if I need assistance. I'm such a scaredy cat in the country. I'd be imagining that bears or other creatures would be around and that would scare me to death. Once I was in NC visiting- and the window was open at night and I swore I heard some animal breathing outside of my window. My mom kept putting on the light so I could see outside, but nothing was out there . I couldn't sleep the whole time we were visiting.
Green Acres ain't the place for me :P.

That's awesome that your family has held land that long . Since your family owns the house and the land on it and will allow you to try it out-why not see if it's suitable for your family. If you're both agreeable and up for it, go for it. $800.00 is a great amount to save per month.

My biggest concern, for me, I guess would be isolation. I wouldn't want to have to drive too far just to get the basic necessities. My basic necessities include a nearby mall and restaurants/clubs and cultural activities :goofy: .

The K1 is used strictly for people who are going to get married in the US within the 90 day period. He will not be able to go back to Jamaica during this time. After marrying you can apply for advance parole which will be a document that allows him to travel before he gets his green card. we applied for it and got our green card so soon after the advance parole arrived it wasn't really worth it. But sometimes it can take a long time to get a green card so if he knows he's going to need to go home then you should definitely pay and file for it.

I recommend the K1 because I had to be with my man asap.

Hey Darah, good to see you.
