Sorry to hear about your uncle Jax (F), your family is in my thoughts.

Here's an interesting link that I found regarding dual citizenship: Dual Citizenship-Jamaica

good evening everyone....
well another day of hell...counting down the days till i am gone!!!
michelle i am so glad to hear your man is doing better!!! when is going to come to the states???

Sorry to hear about your day. Lately my days at work have been like that too.

Well Shauna, I've been battling some of my own issues (within myself) which is not fair to Tristan or my true feelings, but I just have to bust down those issues and do the damned thing. Some here know what my issue is and have been very supportive and encouraging and I want to let them know that I am moving forward instead of being paralyzed with fear. So I want to give a special thanks to Shemanya, Dru, Mindy, Kelly and especially Lee (who is AWOL) and others who have at times basically held my hand at different times throughout. Everyone :star: here has been encouraging and have enlightened me on many things-especially the cultural differences-which I mistakenly thought I was up on. So anyway to make a long story short (it is Friday afterall B) ) I will be filing very, very soon.

Kim I know that just about everyone here said that their spouse had a hard time adjusting at first but eventually adapted. When I left my hometown I moved about 20 miles away and I was severely homesick :hehe: . I finally moved back to the area. So I can't even imagine the pain and culture shock of missing family and especially if they left children behind; for anyone who has made such a move as Duane and other hubbies have made. I'm sure that the newness wears off quick and reality sets in even quicker. Hang in there.

Good morning and happy Friday B)

Congrats on setting a date Kelly; it'll be here before you know it. I went to the Poconos for my honeymoon for my first marriage lol. It was really nice though.

Congrats Jax on your NOA!; you're on your way!

Best wishes tomorrow Elizabeth and Henry. You'll do fine.

Good luck tomorrow Sara and Neil.

Rhonda and Kelly that is cool to speaking your mind I have heard it from everyone. But honestly what people say really doesn't effect us. I wouldn't be pregnant alone for long my hubby should be here soon and I doubt it will happen. We always have bad timing.
We know it will be tough him moving here but he already has a plan set. I understand your situation Kelly my best friend had here son 11 years ago and the father disappeared and never helps. But my honey is not going anywhere. Trust me we have been through a lot and people telling us what to do anymore we don't listen. Everyone use to be so mad that we were dating and engaged. But my parents gave in after 7 years. I have done everything right in my life. I graduated High School then got my bachelors degree and finally my Masters Degree. I bought my house and got married before I decided to have children. I am also 28 and very ready. My honey is more ready than me which is funny since he is the younger one. He has tons of friends here since he has know Elmhurst College people since the 7th grade so that is over 12 years of good friends. The only thing in our situation we have been together sense Jan. for 9 years and we are definitely ready. If I did get pregnant it would be only for 2 months alone. I have been checking time lines. I get work off for 6 weeks and if I give into the sick bank I can have up to 4 months off.

I just wanted to explain maybe everyone won't agree but everyone has their own ideas and situations. Thanks for the input and advice  no hard feelings

One (L)
Jax

Everyone's got to do what's best for them. There may be many reasons why someone would not wait; for example health reasons and/or window of opportunity. And I'm sure some may have other reasons. I say whichever way you decide, do your own thang.

hello everyone!!!
hope all had a great long weekend!!!

went to my brother's high school football game against our across town rivals...they lost :( :( which was not great! i got burnt the sun got SO hot and one of my brother's team mates got severly injured.. they had to take him by helicopter to the med center in hershey...so keep him in your thoughts.....

michelle how is tristan doing???

Hi Shauna, so glad that you were able to get time off and see your brothers game. I hope his team mate will be ok.
I was thinking of you today when I heard the news of Steve Irwin's death (Crocodile Hunter). I know that Mike work's with stingrays. What does he think of this horrible accident?

Tristan is doing as well as can be expected. There's still some discomfort but it seems as if he is able to pretty much resume his normal activities. I believe that he will be having another surgery soon. Thanks for asking.

Hi Ann, how are you and Anthony doing?

Anyone from NY go to the parade today? My sister inlaw says she is going to take me next year or her brother. The only way I could go is if I got pregant and could get time off of work sometime next year. She says I should go I wish sounds like fun. Maybe sometime we will make it to Brooklyn for that.

I've never been to the parade. It's on Labor Day so you could probably attend without taking time off work; but I would hate to be in your shoes to have to get back to work the next day B). Maybe next year we can all finally have that link up in NY for the parade on Labor Day. Just a thought...

Thats a thought. I just couldn't get back to IL in time to work on Tuesday thats what I meant that I would have to be pregant to have maternity leave we get 6 weeks for that. But thats a wonderful idea how fun would that be :D

What are you tryin' to say Jax? You are going back to JA sometime later this year right ;)
Don't pay any attention to me I don't want to rush anyone is that direction. :)

My current hometown (also where I was raised) has a very large Hispanic (Puerto Rican) population. Looking at other ethnic group on the above quoted site shows that large CT cities are quite diverse. I really like ethenically diverse areas as it kind of represents my own diverse background.

Very interesting statistics! Where is Blue Hills located in CT? I would have thought South Florida would have the highest ratio of Jamaicans.

How far from the MA border are you located?

Blue Hills is a neighborhood in Hartford. I'm sure that more Jamaicans live in Brooklyn and South Florida but according to this site; the ratio of Jamaicans are higher in these communities. Most CT cities are relatively small though.
I live about 30 miles from Springfield.

I thought this was an interesting fact as I just moved from the area that claims to have one of the highest % of Jamaicans by population. Here's the article:

JAMAICAN

In the 2000 census, 736,513 people in the U.S. claimed Jamaican ancestry.

ePodunk mapped the top communities by percentage of population. The map and the following list show communities in which 1,000 or more people listed an ancestry group, and in which at least 3 percent of those people said they were Jamaican.

Happy belated birthday to Roy and hope his interview went great.

You guys job stories is exactly what I have been TRYING to impress upon Lake. He JUSST does NOT get it. This is a GREAT job. He says its pretty hard work and its the same thing every night. Well dang, arent MOST jobs? I mean, STARTING OUT in this state, uneducated, without a GED, and making a lil over $10.50 an hour, which is MORE than I have EVER made in my WHOLE life per hour, even working for the state for 15 years, I didnt make it up to that....
If you read in off topic and moving to america forums, you see over and over even the British having to take jobs that pay $7.50 and under.
Jobs ARE pretty easy to get here if you have your papers, but I TOLD him, when you dont have an education, MOST of the jobs are gonna be with your back, manual labor, ya know? Or Walmart, grocery stores, etc, for 7.50 or so an hour. So its your choice I told him. It did take him a while, but it was pretty easy to get, except for the infernal wait. He is getting older too, so itsa lil tougher on him to do the manual labor thing, but most of the guys there ARE in their 40's too, so geeeez already.
He doesnt really COMPLAIN, but when I ask him about his day, he says it the same old thing. Sigh....
At least he is working with people that talk and joke with him a lot, they are a great group of people it sounds like, MUCH better than the last place where the guys was always muttering "idiot" under his breath at him. I dont know why he doesnt "get" how good a job it is. In THIS city, the midwest, thats great pay, with great benefits. I am ready to slap him upside the head. He says he would like to "try out" a bunch of jobs, so he can say he is experienced at "everything". Maybe thats good to a point, but he doesnt get the bad connotation of the "job hopper" thing when I try to explain it. :bonk: :bonk:

Anyhow, congrats to Nannygirl on the upcoming interview.

And dont worry, Elizabeth, you should be fine.

And thanks on the comments of Kelynn, yea, she is filling in very nicely, isnt she? They dont even think there are gonna be any vision probs or anything, arent totally sure yet, but thats great for a kid born at 27+ weeks! She will be 5 months tomorrow, but more like 2 1/2 as she wasnt due til June 15th. Those pics were taken just just this last week or so. :)

What does Lake want to do? I think most of us get bored with the same ole same ole.
Kelynn is so cute. I'm glad that she is progressing well.

It's so good to see all the new pictures posted on yahoo.

Kim, I knew which one your son was when I saw the pics. He looks like you. Very handsome  .

There was one person on the board who had requested an extension regarding the interview in Kingston. I need some guidance please. Bert was to get off the ship on the 28th of this month (unconfirmed at the time) and he is hearing rumblings that he may be doing the repositioning back to New Orleans so now it may change to October 17th. :o

Do I contact the Embassy by phone to ask for an extension? We should know the interview day next week.
Actually November would work out better as I will be there from the 10th to the 21st and that would save (ME) so much money.

Would it be best to explain the situation and hope that they will be understanding and pick a day in-between the dates I am there???

Kelly(luvtravelin) was granted an extension with her K-1 petition. Try PMing her.

QUOTE(Jamaica to CT @ Sep 1 2006, 06:27 AM) *

QUOTE(Trinilad @ Aug 31 2006, 08:47 PM) *

Thank God Cable and Wireless has that service that gave my fiance a US telephone number so we can sit on the phone for 2 / 3 hours a day without breaking my pocket.

My fiance Ordered DSL through Cable and wireless. Once DSL is installed she then ordered a NET Speak package . The Net Speak package is about $25.00 US per month and the DSL is about 30 US per month. On avaerage her bill with DSL, and Net Speak and her local calls come to between 80 and $100.00 US. When you get the net speak, you select a US area code. You will then have two phones in the home. One connected to the regular Analog land line and the other connected to the DSL modem. Just get 2 different color phones with different rings so you do not get confused. So when I call her on the Net speak phone, I dial a US telephone number with a 410 area code and therefore it is aand dial my phone number here which is a local call.So you can talk for as long as you would like for only $25.00 per month. You can see the calls accumulate on the online statement, but when you get your bill, you will only see the 1 charge of about $25.00. Last month my fiance made $85,000.00 JA in calls to me which would have been about $1,400.00 US. Her phone bill was only $85.00 US which included her local calls to Jamaica plus the DSL charge. Trust me, I pay that bill every month without fail. The rule is , she never use the line connected to DSL to make a call to Jamaica because then she would be making a long distance call. She can call anyone, anywhere in the US and it will never cost a dime.

I will swear by it. We have has the service since January 2006 and the average accumulated calls per month is about $60,000.00 JA. To make $1,000.00 US in calls each month and pay only $25.00 US for them, or should say $50.00 with the DSL is the best thing we ever did. In addition to which, when time comes for that interview and you show that consular office the list of calls made totalling $60,000.00 per month, they would have no doubt that this is real.

I know we have had a discussion about places to move in the past...I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas about living in North Carolina...specifically the Raleigh/Chapel Hill area??

I live in Raleigh - its a great place. And pretty diverse. But not a ton to do. Guess it depends what you like to do. If you want to raise kids, it is perfect. Great schools and activities. The job situation is pretty good as well. My fiancee just moved here and I work all the time. He can't get around w/o a car (which he can't drive b/c he dosen't have his license yet), so its pretty dead for him. My suggestion would be to check it out first. Spend a few 3 day weekends here.... see if it is the place for you.

I've been to two JA restaurants here. One is terrible. The other is good but not great. I'm really glad my man can cook :)

How's the cost of living in that area of NC? Culture and cultural diversity? Jobs?
Every winter, when it's freezing and snowing and the winter seems to last for 5 months, I decide that I can't stand living in New England anymore. That's when I consider relocating to warmer climes. Then I see the crocous' and daffodils popping out from the soil and I forget all about it B) .

Thanks for that encouragement. I will look into the class. Someone asked what we do. I'm in HR and Learning & OD. My job is a MINIMUM of 50 hours a week. No OT. Good salary - yes. I didn't struggle for awhile - but all this travel and immigration has taken its toll.

My job is exhausting. You can see that the majority of my posts are super early or super late - because this is the only time I have time. And trying to learn how to be a good fiancee - here and present and energetic for my fiancee is a really big challenge. :(

Nite

Hang in there!

I had to share something funny. I was reading on the African board about miscommunications and it reminded me of one we had today just a little bit ago before he left for work.

We had pot pies the nite before last for dinner, but I had made an extra one for Lake if he wanted it, or to take to for his lunch. I had totally forgotten about it, this morn tho, and he was lookin and lookn in the fridge and I finally asked him...What in the WORLD are you looking for?
Well he never pays attention to how things are spelled on the box, he just listens to how we say it, a bad habit of his, (he doesnt like reading directions on food boxes either for some odd reason). So he asked me...where is that popeye?! I had him repeat it about 4 times and I STILL wasnt getting it cuz he WAS saying popeye. I repeated it back....? After I said it, it HIT me... Yep,...ah...all this time with the fridge open too!
Boy do I feel dumb!

 @ "popeye".

However, in short if anyone is willing can you give a brief description as to how you knew your SO, fiancee or husband was "the one".

I was in a relationship for 11 years and swore he was "the one". Obviously, since we are no longer together, he was not the one. ;)

Also, I would love to see the pictures you all speak of if anyone would like to give me the link, I'd be thrilled.

yeah, I want to know too . Although I really don't know if anyone can really answer that because we really don't know what the future holds. The question that always crosses my mind is 'does the reward outweigh the risk?'...especially for those of us who have already had a fairly successful long tem relationship that failed in the end. Does that make any sense? I just can't seem to take that leap of faith, and we're both getting weary.

Anywho- let me get :ot2: -Stephanie, please ask Ms. Squitto for an invite to the JA_US link on yahoo.

Just checking in quickly for an update.

I did not go into labor and we did make our interview on Aug. 23 . Our interviewer was stoic, no personality and was not nice at all. She asked us for a few items we did not have which we just need to mail in. She wanted a criminal record check from Georgia since hubby got into some trouble a few years back, birth certificates of our twins and his son in St. Vincent. After we send these things, we are approved.

The twins arrived Aug 24 at 10:40 and 10:45 pm. Brenden Cole weighs 5 lb 13 oz. and Christopher Chase weighs 4 lb 13 oz. Pics have been added to the yahoo site in our folder (Kim and Rickie)

Looks like hurricane Ernesto will spare JA of a direct hit. I hope the path it takes will avoid loss of life and property.

Kim, it seems like you and Duane are having a great time and had a great weekend!

What kind of work do you do so that you are able to work on Sundays?

Here's a few questions for everyone:

What's your occupation? In addition do you have a part-time job and if so what do you do? Do you find that it's difficult to make ends meet on your normal salary; or do you have to work O.T. or have a part time job? Is anyone working additional jobs or hours just for this immigration process only?

I'll go first:

I'm an Investor Accountant in the mortgage lending/banking field. I don't have a part-time job but I do work overtime voluntarily(aprox 12 hours monthly). Yes, I find it difficult to make ends meet on my salary alone. Saving is nearly impossible for me (any suggestions?). I know that I would have to work O.T. once I started the process.

Actually Jax I enjoyed looking at those pics

Anna, I was checking the yahoo groups calender and I see that your birthday is tomorrow. Doing anything special?

I hope baby Elias is home now  I also hope Kimone had a successful interview and hopefully delivered a couple of bundles of joy.

Hey everyone :)

But all I have is the truth of how I "handled" (and I use that word loosely :D ) the stress associated with the interview, the paperwork, the idea of marrying a man I've never lived with, the idea of marrying a younger man, etc., etc....

And then, finally, I gave up. And I just accepted that for the first time in my life, I was in a situation that I could not control. And I realized that unless I was ready to walk away, I was just going to have to take it day by day and trust in God that everything would work out the way it should - and whatever happened, it would be ok.

And so far, it has!

For you guys who are now in the final stage and the ones who have passed it already ( getting ready for the interveiw)
Did you ever get to the point where you began thinking : maybe, just maybe this is not the right thing to do? or I have waited too long and I really can't wait another 2 months or so . so I am ognna give up?or even have nightmares about you SO being unfaithful and or just using you?

I feel deep down this is all because of the fact that I am getting nervous tha I am starting to feel this way but I can't help it. I am waiting on my husband to tell me if Package 3 has arrived yet. they said they mailed it already. I have been awakign with cold sweats since Monday and today his sistertold me some negative stuff. I am thinking I should get out, ubt I can't I love this man too much and I can't see me going through life without him.

How did you guys handle this part of it?

Marsha, Marsha, Marsha (sorry I couldn't resist :hehe: ). Girl you have a serious case of the jitters. I just want to isolate something that you said: "I am thinking I should get out, ubt I can't I love this man too much and I can't see me going through life without him."
So...

What part of CT are you in?

I'm in central CT. I just moved from Bloomfield (bordering Hartford) back to New Britain (still near Hartford).

Just wanted to say hi quick, I just got home from the hospital. Elias is still there, he's having some blood issues - his and mine didn't mix. As soon as Michael gets home we're going to go sit with him.

He's so precious, and we're so in love. I will definitely post pictures once we get him home and get settled.

Congrats to all the approvals I missed - my prayers are with you Jax and Popcorn.

Take care everyone, and thanks for posting about Elias Mindy!

(F) (F) (F) Congratulations Julie and Michael!!  I hope for a quick home reunion with your bundle of joy!!

I just read this in 'off topic' and thought I'd share; very touching...
attributed to JenT:
I believe ?
? that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love
each other. And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.

I believe -
. . . that no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you
every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I believe -
. . . that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest
distance. Same goes for true love.

I believe -
. . . that you can do something in an instant that will give you
heartache for life.

I believe -
. . . that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I believe -
. . . that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may
be the last time you see them.

I believe -
. . . that you can keep going long after you think you can't.

I believe -
... that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I believe -
. . . that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I believe -
. . . that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it
needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I believe -
. . . that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I believe -
. . . that my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the
best time.

I believe -
. . . that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down,
will be the ones to help you get back up.

I believe -
. . . that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but
that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I believe -
. . . that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had
and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays
you've celebrated.

I believe -
. . . that it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you
have to learn to forgive yourself.

I believe -
. . . that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop
for your grief.

I believe -
. . . that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we
are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I believe -
. . . that you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

I believe -
. . . two people can look at the exact same thing and see something
totally different.

I believe -
. . . that your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who
don't even know you.

I believe -
. . . that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend
cries out to you - you will find the strength to help.

I believe -
. . . that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I believe -
. . . that the people you care about most in life are taken from you too
soon.

I believe -
. . . that you should send this to all of the people that you believe in. I
just did.
