I'm thinking of flying down to JA tomorrow to salvage some of my vacation. What do you guys think? Does anyone know what type of damage occurred? Or when the airport will reopen? Any information would be helpful blush.gif

Glad you and the family are ok Rhonda. I would go if I could get a flight. good.gif

Tristan just checked in. The hotel that he works at called him in for a couple of days to make sure the guests are comfortable. He says the guests are partying and having a great time. The rest of his family is ok too good.gif
I haven't been able to reach the rest of my friends. I hope everyone else is ok and the damage to the rest of the island isn't as bad as predicted. He did say that there was a lot of property damage, especially to the roofs.

Hey Guys;

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone's family as well as mine who are in JA. We here in the states seem to be more worried than they seem to be. I spoke to Mike and my niece this morning and they both seem so cal and unconcerned. I just saw the weather channel news and the eye has actually diverted off to the south of JA and they are just getting the high winds and rain. Thank God for his mercies. We will just have to wait until tomorrow to see the real effect that it had on the island.

Luv
Your VJ sis Claire

Michele how was your trip to philly??? how was the Franklin Institute...i used to go there every week w/ the other set of twins i took care of...mike and i might be heading up to philly/penn's landing tomorow...they are having a caribean festival...

It was really nice. The weather was beautiful and the exhibit was nice but it was soooo crowded. I almost couldn't wait to get out of there.
I was really impressed with the city. It has a lot of historical and cultural places to see and things to do. I would definitley go back and stay longer.
Next time I'll have to time it around a Caribbean festival.

Question on the I-130 question #22. Am I filing for AOS? He's still in Jamaica. Do I feel this out with Kingston Jamaica or nothing at all?

Let me just tell you guys I am so stressed out with planning a wedding, and starting this Visa paperwork stuff. I have looked over these simple forms dozens of times, but I think my brain has just shut down on me cause I cant think straight or comprehend how to answer some of the simplest questions. I know I'm just thinking about it too hard.

Only 4 more days til the wedding!! I leave for Jamaica this evening!! I cannot wait!! Anyway now you see my stress. I am making sure that My father takes the I-130 petition packet back to the states with him and mails it as soon as he gets there. That way while I'm honeymooning in JA this process can be on its way. But with the stress of packing I can't seem to get it right.

I need help!! :crying:

Best wishes on your upcoming wedding Marlita (F)

Good morning!

For those of you from or familiar with Philly-where's the best Jamaican and Puerto Rican restaurants...and of course Cheese Steaks?

Michele

The best cheese steaks for people coming from out of town is down South Philly. Pat's or Geno's steaks (9th and Passyunk). Tourist for some reason love these steak stores. I personally think that the best cheese steaks are from the neighbourhood pizza stores.
Jamaican restaurants - Tropical Restaurant 52nd and Haverford (West Philly), Jamaican Jerk Hut 15th and South street.

I can't help you on the Puerto Rican restaurants, Sorry. Hope this information helps! When are you coming? I know my cousin Freddie is coming down to philly this weekend from CT.

Thanks Shonnie. I'm going to the King Tut exhibit and will be staying at a hotel downtown.
I don't like the Cheeze Wiz topping.
I'll be there this weekend as well. What part of CT is your cousin from?

I'm still stressed out  Still haven't found a house yet! The first 2 that I made offers on wouldn't lower their price enough to meet my budget. The 3rd one got sold right after they rejected MY offer :( They didn't even counter-offer. We're looking at more tonight.

Tony leaves for Jamaica on Monday and I leave next Saturday. I haven't even begun packing or getting ready yet and I have an out-of-town wedding this weekend that's going to take up all my time. I'm going crazy  :crying: :bonk:

Maybe I'll just stay in Jamaica and live in a little hut on the beach  It would be cheaper!!

Rhonda, I was in the same position as you are about 3 years ago. I sold my house so fast and I couldn't find something that I liked before closing. I had to stay in a hotel for a couple of weeks and moved into and out of storage :dead:
I'm sure you'll find something soon.

 Hey Everyone!

I know its been a while, and some of you probably don't know who I am, but I just wanted to stop in and say hello. I hope everyone is doing well, and things are going smoothly with this crazy process. Just a little update....my case was expedited by the NVC and sent to the embassy in Kingston...yay! I am kind of confused though because I just sent off the AOS bill/ DS 3032 two weeks ago , I have not received anything regarding payment of the IV bill nor sending in the I-864. They already sent the DS 230 part 1 packet to my hubby, so maybe I will pay those fees through the embassy?? I dunno. I am just going with the flow. Crazy because I was going to use James Shortcuts, but maybe I won't need to. Not sure if hubby will be home in time before the baby is born, I am about 29 weeks ( 7 months?) now. But maybe God will work a miracle, as he has already done for us. A lady from the embassy told my husband that she would try to schedule him for the next interview appointment that they have available...whatever that means. I guess I was under the impression that if the NVC expedited our case, the embassy would function in the same manner, i.e. emergency visa appointment. But anyway, I just wanted to give you ladies an update and let you know that things are going ok for me. I will check for you guys later.

(F) Miss Jones

I guess I should try to fill an unofficial timeline...um....ok here it goes.

OCT 06- Marriage
MAR 07- NOA 1
JUN- NOA 2
JUL- NVC Receives case
JUL- AOS/DS 3032 Generated
AUG-Kingston Embassy receives case, via expedite
AUG-Packet ? Sent (contains DS 230 Part 1)

Congrats on your progress!

hello everyone,

I had the baby on Monday and hubby passed his interview yesterday, he said the officer told him out of 45 people so far for the morning, he was the only one who got a visa. I'm still waiting to hear all the details so I can pass it along.

Thanks to and for all the VJers, who posted info and answered questions, I'm sure without VJ and that very important binder he would not have passed.

Another congratulations on your husbands visa!! What an exciting time for your family!

Man I was looking forward to eating at Maxine's booth at the taste on Saturday. What a total bumme.r It use to be good. What did u have Anna? I guess I will have to eat something else at the Chi Taste.

Remember they have several cooks so the food varies from time and time. I had the curry goat b/c the oxtail didn't look good. It was sloppy and wasn't brown. When I finally got the goat I wished I could change my mind b/c it was "white". I can't eat my meat w/no color, I'm a picky eater. My daughter got the jerk chicken and she didn't like it either. They only had a few selections to choose from. Maxine is a good cook but some of her cooks na ready.

We ate at the taste and it wasn't Maxines some place starting with a V. We had chicken, rice and peas and plantain. My hubby, dad, and myself thought it was horrible. The taste was ok and hubby ran into a friend which was nice. I wore him out making him walk to Navy Pier and then back to Millennium Park. He wasn't impressed by the beam.

Michelle are vacation this summer is going and seeing the sites of Chicago. I don't need to go far for him to have a great time and it has been so much fun.

What summer vacation plans do u have Michelle?

I went to the Chi a few years ago with my former husband. We had a great time. There was always something to see and do. Can't wait to go back again.

Went to sleep at 6pm, woke up and can't sleep.....Those events in DC look nice, but I'm always too tired to even think about going anywhere....We went to a commissary on base to get cheap groceries, spent over $400 :o
But now the fridge is overflowing, can't find space for anything!!

:o A lot of times when I come out of the grocery store I'm amazed at how much I spent too.
BTW- I didn't get a chance to say welcome before, so WELCOME.

Calling on Jamie- :help: Do you remember the site where you can purchase online -I'm not sure if it was a voucher or store credit- for a specific grocery store to help out someone in Jamaica? It basically entailed on online purchase and the person in Jamaica could go to the store and select what they wanted for the amount of money that you purchased online?

Super Plus

Hi Michele :luv:
I have never actually done it but I have heard from others who have done it and had good results. Just remember to check the store locations on the website to make sure that whoever is going to pick them up won't have to go to far.

i have used that store in the past and i was ok...i used it once and actually picked out the food and that was not any good....most of the things they didn't have or what looked like not enough to me was a lot..so i just eneded up getting the vouchers and that was much better!

Kelly i was looking and at the artscape thing that friday night they are having steel drum music that would be fun to go to!!! or whatever....i am just fine with hanging and laughing at the roomies

Thanks Shauna, I'll keep that in mind

What's everyone's summer vacation plans?

Well, we were going to go to Arizona, but....unfortunately can't swing it this summer. My son really wants to go to the Outer Banks again this year with his friend, so "my" vacation ....is no mommy time. He's been hardly home so far this summer which is giving me a much much needed break. We only have "off" from soccer the month of July and December and it's too darn expensive to go anywhere in December.

Any plans for you Michele? Coming down to this area for Independence Day, August 5th ?

The weather has been really scorching out in the west this summer. I went to Arizona in May one year and it was too hot for me then. Scottsdale was beautiful though.

Good morning all,

Thanks for your concern all. I havent really said too much on here, but we have pretty much already exhausted almost every avenue. I called the health department, the extension office, the entymology department, the university hospital, our regular doctors, the derm, eye doctors, opthalmologist, etc.

The darn dermatologist even said "Maybe we have Morgellans" then when we went in, said the folks that have that are delusional. I am not so sure they are delusional, you DO know when something is biting you, for pity sake. Just because we never really had too many parasite infections in the past, doesnt mean with all the world travel now that we are not immune. And just because it microscopic and you cant SEE it, doesnt mean it isnt THERE! Sure would be easier if we could see the darned things.

Then I started doin more research and its totally scary what the genetically modified food has come up with and done. Dang. Did you know that they just started to insert E coli bacteria into the genetically modified spinach to kill off bacteria and bugs???? Kind of makes you wonder about this outbreak? They made it very clear that it was NOT the organic spinach that carried the E. Coli. Hmmmmm. Its no wonder our immune system isnt able to fight things off. You try to be healthy by eating greens and wham!

I think we should join Europe and some other nations and ban the stuff. Well, better get off my soapbox.
Later all.
Jill

Jill check your PM.

Hi all
I'm kind of new to the site and so relieved to see this thread. Sent of I-129F 9/1/06 and I already have approval (Vermont SC). But now what happens? I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can only dream of paperwork and what to expect and how to be completely and totally prepared. I hear that if I fed ex the original 797 to my finace in JA, he can bring it to the embassy and get "the packet", but do I have to wait to know the NVC sent the file to Kingston first? I'm jumping out of my skin...

Ann

Welcome Ann(winterstail).

Okay I keep on getting bad news after bad news. Dwain's dad is now in the hospital he did not eat for a week and is getting really weak. His mom said Dwain is really sad. His dad has altimers and Diabetes. He has big open sore on his feet. We think his days our out number. This is not how I wanted to go back to see my husband. Please keep us in our prayers. We really wish he will get better. His mom is taking it hard since they have been together for 25 years. And she is now living in the country and doesn't want to live alone and Dwain is her only son and he is moving soon.

:help: When we get the Cr-1 Visa can we apply for his aunt (who is really who he calls mom) to move up here to live with us so she won't be alone? I am afraid she is going to fall into depression. When his dad passes there is no more money because they are living off his retirement money I call it. So I am worried.

:crying: :crying:

One Luv
Jax (F)

Sorry to hear Jax. Your family is in my thoughts.
Unfortunately based on the information from the state departments web site Dwain's aunt would not be eligible for a family based visa filed by him. Does she any other closely related relatives(siblings for example) that would sponsor her here? I'm just observing that it seems like it takes quite some time for these type of visas to get processes too. Here's the info:

FAMILY-BASED IMMIGRANTS

Tips for U.S. Visas:
FAMILY-BASED IMMIGRANTS

The Immigration and Nationality Act allows for the immigration of foreigners to the United States based on relationship to a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. Family-based immigration falls under two basic categories: unlimited and limited.

UNLIMITED FAMILY-BASED

Immediate Relatives of U.S. Citizens (IR): The spouse, widow(er) and unmarried children under 21 of a U.S. citizen, and the parent of a U.S. citizen who is 21 or older.

Returning Residents (SB): Immigrants who lived in the United States previously as lawful permanent residents and are returning to live in the U.S. after a temporary visit of more than one year abroad.

LIMITED FAMILY-BASED

Family First Preference (F1): Unmarried sons and daughters of U.S. citizens, and their children, if any. (23,400)

Family Second Preference (F2): Spouses, minor children, and unmarried sons and daughters (over age 20) of lawful permanent residents. (114,200) At least seventy-seven percent of all visas available for this category will go to the spouses and children; the remainder will be allocated to unmarried sons and daughters.

Family Third Preference (F3): Married sons and daughters of U.S. citizens, and their spouses and children. (23,400)

Family Fourth Preference (F4): Brothers and sisters of United States citizens, and their spouses and children, provided the U.S. citizens are at least 21 years of age. (65,000)

Congrats to Kelly and Craig!

So sorry Jax, you're in my thoughts and prayers.

Lakes dad is also in the hospital, with diabetes. He is an alcoholic and has open wounds on his foot, and they finally admitted him. They are trying to save his foot, Lake is really worried if they amputate, cuz he says once they do that, usually no one lives in his country beyond a few months afterwards.

We are still fighting some kind of infestation here, I am beginning to think its some kind of strange parasite they just dont recognize here in America. Lake says he will ask a doctor next time he goes home, see what kind of meds he can get. I wouldnt wish this on anyone, its a nightmare. The dermatologist told us this week its just active dermatitis, from "post-scabies" but its been months, and I wouldnt think we would have any post symptoms this long. My poor moms vision is gradually decreasing by the day.
I am suspecting Lyme or severe candida (yeast infection) or some such odd thing, as symptoms are progressive with all of us. No way I could even work at this point. :(

My nurse called me after a blood test last week, told me to get to the dr, right NOW! My c-reactive protein levels, (I guess they measure infection?) went from 1.8 in March to 24.3 last week. It worries me. Dermatologist wasnt a bit worried tho. Said it didnt mean a thing.

Urghhh! Doctors!

Jill, I would ask for a referral to a specialist;especially considering your you moms condition. Is there a university hospital nearby? Enough is enough.

huh?  dats weird cuz on my packet 3 it says this"if u have any jamaican resident children who will be accompaying you who are aged 18 or older, each such child must present a certificateof non-impediment to marriage issued by the registrar general department on security paper" i wll cal the embassy tmrwo jus to make sure. ( plus we married already)

Sorry, I forgot you guys are already married. I don't understand why your kids would need that certificate? Are they 18 or older? It sounds like if they're younger than that, they wouldn't need it. Maybe someone else can help you out with this. Like I said, a lot of the rules have changed in the 2 years since Tony got his Visa.

This is what I found: Accompanying children have to be unmarried and under 21(from the state dept. website: Remember that in immigration law children must be unmarried and under 21 years of age.)
So if you have accompanying children over 18 and under 21 they have to have the certificate of non-impediment to marriage to prove they are unmarried.

Good morning (F)

Dwain called this morning he has the gig with Mr. Vegas so he wil be telling me his touring schedule he says he is leaving the rock for the first time in a couple of weeks. Wow I thought his first time to the USA would be with me but I guess not. He said Mr. Vegas isn't going to Chicago though :crying: Oh well he should have some serious fun and at least he has a job when he gets here and a little experience in the USA.

Oh I also told him what u gals said about getting pregant and being home sick and he said he wasn't a baby so he got real up set with me for rethink it. So we will see. He may not be even in the country the time I got to visit in December. I will have to figure that out when he gets the dates if I have to try to get some what of a refund and see if Air Jamaica does that. Time will tell. It would be real cool if I could fly out and see him for his first show in USA. I need to check out MR. Vegas home page.

Wow that is so huge!! Congratulations to Dwain. I'm sure you'll catch him on tour. Are you still going to JA in December? If not, can you use your time off to visit him on tour?

Yeah, that's why I said earlier that everyone has to do what's right for their family. Folks will say 'why didn't you wait' or 'what are you waiting for' or you're to this or too that or not enough this or...whatever. On this thread I've only come across one person whom I would consider 'naive' and that person hasn't posted in a very, very long time. I think the rest of us mature enough to make decisions that are right for our own families circumstances. So if we make decisions that turn out to be wrong(which I'm sure we all have done at one time or another in our lives irregardless of age or life experience) then we have to live with the consequences. Not anyone else.
I certainly appreicate everyone's input and experiences because I sincerely believe that they are trying to help prepare for what's ahead; which I consider invaluable. But at the end of the day like I said before; do your own thing. I'd rather have regrets for a decision that I made rather than regrets for decision that someone else has made for me.

Hello everyone,

I'm just finishing up here at work :( ready to go home and go to bed. This shift is for the birds.

Has anyone heard from Jamie or Joanna lately? What about ricardoswife (Myisha)? Isn't she due soon?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'm stuck at work as usual :ranting:

Rhonda get some rest. How's Tony doing? Did he find something yet?
I have not heard from Jamie or Joanna or Myisha-although I did PM her to see if she had the baby yet. She has not responded yet.

Well some good news my hubby just called and said he is pretty sure he has the gig with Mr. Vegas and should be flying out of the country soon. I sure hope this dream comes true for him. So I am thinking I should just go the CR1 route because of his touring time. I am just praying he isn't touring over the time I planned to visit because my plane ticket is already bought. We will see so very soon on this one.

ahahah

Pull up! :P

Seriously though Jax, what a great opportunity for Dwain! Good luck

I went to the gym this morning and decided to do something new...take a bellydancing class. Well, the instructor is Caribbean so she combined bellydancing with dancehall and soca dancing. We even did the dutty whine  It was so much fun...hard work. Gotta go pratice my new moves......

That sounds like a lot of fun. I need to get a gym membership myself soon.

Sorry to hear about your uncle Jax (F), your family is in my thoughts.

Here's an interesting link that I found regarding dual citizenship: Dual Citizenship-Jamaica
