Hello mommies!!

Frustrated here... I had my first day yesterday! Gosh I've been here for almost a year and haven't been pregnant yet. I'm getting annoyed thinking I'm turning 30 this year and still wala pang baby... huhuhu! Oh well.. my time is yet to come I guess...

Bless you all mommies to be...

Vida Taylor

don't stress yourself too much it'll come when you expect the least. I'm turning 31 this July 15, two weeks before my due date. Ang saya siguro pag nanganak ako on the day of my birthday. idea9dv.gif

Congratulations for a new baby smile.gif Ako meron...kung maari mas gusto ko normal delivery. Walang epidural or ano pa man unless it is absolutely necesarry talaga. But im really hoping na everything will be ok:)

Evelyn

same here. I really want natural child birth without any drugs. Epidural is really not a big thing in Philippines unless you're on CS but let us face it our babies has foreign genes and compare to filipino babies, ours are probably bigger wacko.gif . Personally I am more scared of the thought of episiotomy (surgical cut) on our va-jay2x blush.gif than the pain of labor. I'll cross the bridge when I get there.

Lets just pray for our safe labor.

Question to all who have had their first prenatal check:

My hubby included us in his health insurance before we left the Philippines. I had my first prenatal last week and we used our health insurance. Yesterday, I got a letter from the clinic saying that the insurance will cover 80% of the estimated prof fee of $3000, good for all my prenatals, labor and delivery, and postnatal checks. We will pay for the remaining 20% on a monthly basis from July till December.

Is this a usual thing? I am presuming that this does not include the hospital fees?

I think it all depends of what type of insurance plan your husband has. With me and my hubby, we had to pay $400 as co-pay after the insurance on my first prenatal check up. I just had my visit with the anesthesiologist on thursday and we have to pay $600 (after insurance) for hospital fee, medication and epidural (if incase I have to ask one during labor) but I think it would be lesser amt. if I don't have to get one. This will be payable after my labor. Right now, I just want to stick to my plan of having a natural child birth (God's will that everything will always be perfectly fine for me and my baby.)

Ethan Paul....the middle name derives from my hubby's deceased grandpa and he had a good childhood memories with him that he loved and missed him so much.

Hi sweetpink,

Yeah constipation is discomforting too. Tried to eat water melon, eating water melon helps me. Maybe this will help you too. Yeah peeing really annoying hehhehehe. I'm taking prenatal vitamins and I'm glad i found one that smell good..it smell like strawberry smile.gif My blood is normal so I guess I don't need to take extra iron. Hey btw..don't you get UTI from eating dried fish most of the time?

Evelyn

I had a bad UTI 5 years ago and I was afraid that it might came back while being pregnant but every prenatal visit I have my OB always monitor my urine and everything is perfectly fine. I just had to make sure to empty my bladder right away if I feel the urge to pee and drinking plenty of water helps to cleanse your system.

My blood pressure is normal too but as the baby grows older inside of you he/she absorbs more calcium and iron from your body so you need an extra supplement.

Good Lord my wife is pregnant.

She doesn't post on message boards, but I hope I am not discriminated against.

Not sure how far along but it is more than one month and less than two - going to make a doctor appointment ASAP.

She has had:

- morning sickness

- food cravings but then not wanting to eat much

- sensitive smell

- mood swings

Oddly, she has become more beautiful than ever. I thought I heard guys were supposed to get disgusted with their wives when they got pregnant.

We saw all the signs so we did a pregnancy test last night and weren't too surprised by it I guess. What else can you expect.

We have been worried about ectoptic pregnancy though because she has had pains in her lower right abdomen and a couple of the other signs, but we will see when we get an ultrasound I guess.

What?????????????????????????? those guys who have this mentality are sick. you shouldn't have stick in your wand knowing that if you do, pregnancy is a big possibility.
I read in some pregnancy forums though that some guys were afraid of having sex with their pregnant wife for the reason of hurting the baby which is not so true unless you have a very sensitive pregnancy and it requires a bed rest.

By the ways, I hope your wife and your baby will be doing fine. Just keep hoping and pray for the best. good.gif

I'm not sensitive of the smell:) I ate like crazy! I gained 10 lbs for just 3 months. I'm not a soda and coffee lover so I don't have any problem cutting it:) I had my sugar tested when I was 12 weeks and so far everything is perfect. Only that i'm bit disappointed with my Dr. because she didn't let us hear the baby's heartbeat and she did the ultrasound really fast because she was 1 hr late for the schedule. I hope on my next visit we can hear the baby's heart beat as we are been waiting for it to hear.

Only I hate to wake up every couples of hr at night to pee. It seems that my bladder holds tones of water biggrin.gif
Overall I'm very happy being pregnant as we are waiting for this to happened.

Certainly true! and as you going along every week it's getting worst and worst. And taking iron may be very good with the baby though but it'll make your constipation worst. Sometimes I had to sit at the toilet for almost an hour ClockWatch2.gif . I'm taking 2 kinds of prenatal vitamins but I only take the iron every other day.

Next week my baby will be turning 28 weeks (7 months). I never had any mood swings nor morning sickness. I still love wearing my favorite perfume and to cook with garlic and onions and of course eating my ultimate favorite filipino food "dried fish". The only thing that change a lot is my libido. It kicks into it's highest level...hubby's always in trouble devil.gif laughing.gif

I was in tears the first time I heard my baby's heart beat @ 11 weeks. It's an overwhelming feeling that there's a life inside of you. I now gained 25 lbs., though I never worried too much of my weight since I was underweight before I was pregnant (85 lbs and I'm 5'2). It's only my tummy that's growing but the rest of my body are the same. My OB said most of my gained weight are coming from my baby, amniotic fluid and the placenta. My feet starts to sore now, some of my shoes could barely fit in. No varicose veins and stretch marks yet (hoping not). Before I was pregnant and until now I always like putting lotions all over my body and I just starts using coco butter cream on my tummy, it works so far though. My face are getting rounder and hate to admit it but I now have this "pregnant fat nose look" laughing.gif . For my first trimester I had to skip caffeine which is not so easy since I'm a coffee and soda drinker. Some people would say it's better to cut off caffeine through the entire pregnancy but my OB said it's ok but in minimal amount. Now, I have to make sure that I have to read the label and that it doesn't have to exceed to 200 mg/day. And drink tons and tons of water to keep you body hydrated. There are certain types of fish that's ok for pregnant women to eat that has lesser or no content of mercury at all (I got a list from my fist visit to my OB).

Never was fond of eating sweets but now I'm eating ice cream like crazy sometimes @ 2am. The day we found out that I'm expecting, my hubby brought me a book "Your week by week Pregnancy", it's a big help specially for first time mom but my hubby reads a lot more than I do tongue.gif.

About a month ago I started feeling my baby's movement and now it's getting stronger. It's a funny feeling that something's moving inside of you but it's quite fun and reassuring that you baby's doing fine. Mine has a pattern, he usually flutters before and after meals.

My next prenatal visit will be this Monday, 05/04 and going to have my sugar test to check if I didn't have any Gestational diabetes. A certain type of temporary diabetes that some women developed while being pregnant but apparently will get back to normal after having a baby.

OK ladies good luck on our journey and keep posted!

PhilippinesI did it!

Was it too hard? How many hours/minutes took you completing the test?

not sure if it's the same in every State, but it was 20 questions for Road Rules and 20 for Road Signs and you must not miss more than 5 of each to pass. It wasn't hard at all, you just have to focus and you have all the time in the world so just take your time. I wasn't time pressured but I guess it took me 15-20 good mins. to finish everything.

PhilippinesAmerasians

Was he aware? I dunno. The film was too stereotypical of the "prostitute" thing, IMO. James Erik, most of his cases, the father knew about the child and a good number even know their father's SSN.

What was his thoughts, by the way? When was he stationed?

I wish they included Clark AB too in the film, not just the Navy.

It was 1988 when he was stationed in Subic. Most of his experiences I find it quite hilarious. Most of the time, they had to go out in a group coz they were being told that going alone isn't safe at all. One time they went into a bar and local girls started talking to them, the girl that my husband was talking to looked very young and was the daughter of the bar owner (he didn't know at first), the father approached their table and asked if he wants to marry his daughter...LOL

I have multiple thoughts about the whole issue of the movie. It saddened both me and my husband how the film was presented. Reality wise, some of those service men had a serious relationship with women who were not sex workers but for some reason that we don't know and not for us to judge, lost communications with each other after the Base was closed.

Although almost at the end of the movie they showed few White Amerasians too but I wish it was presented clearly on the movie why the 4 stories only evolved on black Amerasians? I kinda understand that probably they tried to portray the struggles of the black amerasians to fit in in Filipino society or in any society in general. For a country that is deeply rooted from Hispanic values and beliefs, ..."the whiter you are the prettier you are..." When you are an illegitimate child of white father you don't get the same criticism as of those child with black father.

In the case of Margarita, I think what the director implied is the cause and effect of the situation. MAYBE if Margarita's grandpa didn't abandoned her dad (just an assumption since it wasn't specified in the film) they should have a better life? Just a thought...

I wish the director and Robert (the journalist in the film) has blog of where they can answer all our questions. :)

I have purchased a copy of "Left by the Ship" documentary film and it was very touching and glad of the awareness of the issue that it brought to us (both Filipinos and Americans) at the same time. While watching, hubby also shared to me his experience of what it was like to be in Navy at that time being stationed in Subic Bay.

Me and my husband have known with each other for 7 yrs. and been married for 4 years and we have a 2 yr old son. My first year here in the US was a lot of adjustments there were ups and downs and kinda hard to admit but I was being impossible and used to have bad temper. I remember on the first couple of months of our marriage my husband told me "if I just don't love you I'm going to return you to your parents...LOL". We are happily married and very thankful to my husband for standing by me through all these years. (L) :)

PhilippinesThings you found strange about the Philippines

I had such a good time reading the other thread about what your fiancee / wife thought about life in the States, that I decided to turn it around a little bit.

When you or your spouse first visited in the Philippines, what was most shocking to them? Here is our list!

-Security guards armed with shotguns and automatic rifles. Checkpoints before entering malls, even cities.
don't make a wrong move..they won't hesitate to shoot you lol

-Toilet paper must be purchased in public restrooms, and absolutely NOT flushed.
nothing is for free.

-Traffic is chaotic and disorderly. It takes hours just to drive a short distance.
that's what they say, "if u can drive in Philippines you can drive anywhere else in the world"

-Spoons are the most common utensil. Even for cutting!
I would say, spoon and fork together (very spanish)

-Large fences and walls everywhere. Not common to see parks or open grassy areas.
wealthy people loves their privacy. beware, behind those gates are security guards with shotguns too

-Stray dogs and chickens wander everywhere!
I miss this scenario!

-Churches are always full no matter what time of day.
very religious people. when everything else fails, FAITH in God always works!

-Medicine can be bought without a prescription.
accessible for drug addict :(

-Beautiful skyscrapers RIGHT next door to dumping grounds.

-Power lines are a tangled mess... even in urban areas.
that's why candles and oil lamps are available in most convenient stores
