Hey

VSC will process application after they cash the check. It will take one extra day for you to see cashed check through your bank. My cashed check had my receipt number on it. It is the same as my NOA..
My NOA date is dated april 10, they cashed the check on 8th.
So if they accepted on 25th, and everything was correct you will see cashed check i think today or most tomorrow..
Most probably your NOA will be dated as of May, but when you check your case status online it will say that they received it on april...

This is a little reversed from a lot of the postings here I think, so please forgive me.
I am a natural born US citizen. I will be moving to Spain in the near future, and intend to reside there for a long time. Possibly long enough (10 years is required under current Spanish law as I understand it) to have the option to naturalize as a Spanish citizen.

Technically, since the process of naturalizing in to most countries requires taking an oath to that country, it violates the US' prohibition on a US citizen ever taking an oath to a foreign government. Aside, my spouse is a permanent resident alien in the US, but is a citizen of Japan. Would it be easier / better for my spouse to be the one to naturalize in Spain and I just piggy-back on her (years from now) new-found freedom to live and work all over Europe as the then-spouse of a (newly minted) European citizen?

Disclaimer: I can only speak for myself and my situation. I am a natural born citizen of the US and a naturalized citizen of Italy. I acquired citizenship through marriage and my three children all dual nationals. My husband is in the process of acquiring his US naturalization. I also have an American friend who naturalized after 10 years of residence. Neither she nor I were required to give up our US citizenship. I have friends who have lived in Italy for years and are afraid to become citizens for fear of losing their US citizenship but I was told that there is a "don't ask don't tell" policy between the two countries.

I don't see any advantage to you piggy backing onto her. It will take the same amount time for both of you (if she were a EU citizen, it would be different)

Meantime, as a resident of a European nation, you are pretty free to travel, work and live just as a citizen. I say, Go for it!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share the great news that my husband's conditions have been removed. We filed in late August, just before his expiration. The filed was transfered to California in September. He had biometrics Oct 12 or 14, one of those early teens. Then on Dec. 3 he was approved. We had no "touches" along the way.

Now I was so worried about an RFE because we didn't have any evidence of sharing utilities or checking accounts. No children, no will, no life insurance, no joint car ownership. Our checking and savings accounts are separate and no names on each other's accounts even! PLus the evidence we submitted did not expand the entire 2 years of conditional residence. The joint CD and beneficiary on bank account did not occur until May or June of this year. The earliest evidence, except for the letters, was in the middle of 2006.


Congratulations are definitely in order! It is frustrating for others of us languishing without sign of any sort from the service centers. My husband and I have three kids, we own our house in the US and in Italy, have joint everything, are beneficiaries to each others policies ... but, we had only been married 1 year and 9 months before applying for the GC so BAM conditional status. And we are still sitting here since May waiting for conditions to be lifted.... UGH!

It is 3 years -90 days from the date you were approved for your Greencard..... Look at the resident since date on the greencard... not the expiry date....


I was approved for my Greencard Nov 09th 2005.... I can file for Citizenship Aug 11th 2008... 90 days before the 3rd aniversary of approval...

okay, so I'll count backward 90 days from July 19 2008 which is the approval date shown on the card. Should be around April 21, 2008 then.

I see that you found your answer, but I'll reply anyway. We did DCF (already married) and it was very fast. My husband received his visa the same day as the interview, but he had to spend 2 days in Naples and go down twice because he was missing some information.

The process was easy and the Naples people were very nice and efficient.
