All of the United Kingdom interviews are conducted at the US Consulate in London, therefore your Scottish fiance will need to travel there for both his medical and interview.

Will his medical have to be at the same time or can he go to his own doctor and take records with him or what? Sorry I don't see much information on tis part. Thank you!

The medicals can only be conducted by the Knightsbridge doctors in London. It is possible for the appointments to be scheduled on consecutive days, or on the same day. My husband (then fiance)had his medical and K1 interview on the same day this past January.

ETA, you can also finds lots of more specific London Consulate information in the United Kingdom forum here on Visa Journey.

When the I-129F is sent, do both my girlfriend and I have to send in a copy of our birth certificates, or only her? When will I have to provide documents such as birth certificate/passport?

The requirements of the I-129f indicate a copy of the birth cert is required for the petitioner only (the USC) however, occasionally people get RFEs for the benficiary's birth cert, so when we sent in our packet we included both just to be safe.

Regarding the PO Box issue, you could type in "see attached" in the address field, and indicate on the attached sheet your physical address and your mailing PO Box address.

As far as the birth certificate goes- yesterday I went to make a photocopy of my birth certificate and noticed that it says "Warning: It is a felony to copy or reproduce this certificate" So... are you sure it's ok just to send in a photocopy of your birth certificate?? I'm fine because I ordered two copies of my birth certificate so I have a few extra, but I was just curious.

It says right in the form instructions to include a photocopy. Don't worry, you won't be arrested! It will be your little secret with USCIS! laughing.gif

Nah, you get those fees once its time for AOS. Ugh. We're sending my husband's AOS off this week and I am getting so tired of giving USCIS our hard earned money!

Good luck with your visa journey!

"When you get the certified birth/divorce certificates and all the financial statements, GET 3 CERTIFIEd COPIES."

1. This was taken from one of the FAQ's. At the risk of sounding like a dummy, can someone explain what a certified copy is and how one goes about getting a document certified (in the US)?

2. Are there any other filing fees prior to the AOS other than for the I-129?

Thanks, glenn

Certified means they are either stamped or have a raised seal which guarantees it is an official document. You can buy certified copies from your county clerk where the divorce was filed and birth certs from the city hall (typically).

Yes, your fiance will have a fee to pay for the medical exam, the visa itself and for delivery of the visa. And of course any travel related costs. Prepare to spend a fair amount of money!

Meg, for the interview the consulate will want to see the original, plus recieve a copy of the documents you mentioned above, for the BENFICIARY of the K1. So that means for your fiance. You've already sent copies your stuff to the processing service center in order to get the NOA2. The only thing you need to provide you fiance with for the interview is the sponsorship stuff.

Will forms DS-156, DS-156k, DS-157, DS-230I and IV-15 be mailed to be from the embassy before my interview, or do I have to get them myself? I'm curious as to what these forms involve, so any information would really be appreciated!

There are completed copies of all these forms here on VJ. Right at the top of the screen umder "Example Forms". You usually have to get these forms for yourself from the embassy website or USCIS webite. The embassy usually just sends you a checklist that details what forms you need to complete and what documents you need to bring with you to the interview.

P.S. Don't be scared about this process! Just educate yourself on what needs to be done and you will be fine. Its really very straightforward. Knowledge is power!

So I basically just download them off the site and I'm good to go?

P.S. Thanks again for answering my questions, you're too kind!

Yes, you can find all the forms on the USCIS website. They also have the most current versions of the forms.

Good plan. Cos even if you hire an attorney its still up to you to provide all the relevant data and to gather all the evidence required to support the I129f. In hiring an attorney, you're basically paying someone to fill out the forms and mail it in for you.

Just be sure you read the form instructions very carefully since the I129f is no longer processed at Texas Service Center, you'll either be sending it to Vermont or Cali. The guides here are excellent. Keep yourself well organized and you'll do well.

You may want to say no, but the answer is that there is no restriction on travel to the US whilst a K1 is in process. You just need to satisfy the immigration officer that you are not intending to stay and immigrate on that trip.

Check out the following link, which is extremely informative and comprehensive:

http://www.visajourn...mp;page=k1visit

Its all right here on VJ! Just search the site you'd be amazed how many answers you can find here! This place is a veritable goldmine of information!

AOS is the same for a K1 as it is for a K3. The only way that would have brought her in on a green card without your having to live with her in Thailand is to maryy and apply for the Cr-1/IR-1 visa. That is a multiple entry visa with a green card included.

Wow. That really sucks. There was another member who filed at CSC and had her app lost. She refiled, had her app transferred from CSC to VSC and it languished forever, despite her best efforts to get USCIS to own up to their mistake and move her app up in the queue for processing. It never happened. In fact, she waited longer than most for NOA2. Arund that same time, there was another guy here on VJ who also had a lost petition and had to refile. No transfers, but no moving up in the queue due to a loss that was out of his control.

I'm not trying to discourage you from trying to get results. I'm just pointing out that CSC makes mistakes a lot and they don't seem to accept responsibility for their own stupidity.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I realize that I probably won't get any results from my efforts but at least I will have tried everything I can from my end. Makes me feel better anyway to be trying to do something about it.

Glory Be to God......Thank you so much for your info....I really appreciate it !!

Were you approved the same day you went for your interview and medical....Did they call you later, or tell you right then ?

Thanks again !!

They told him that day he was approved, pending the medical results. The medical results typically take about 4 days to get to the embassy. So, he interviewed & had the medical on a Monday and received the visa at home the following Tuesday (6 business days later).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNVC ?
Yes. They evaluate the sponsor on current earnings. I only submitted my last year's (2006) tax info with the I-134, a letter from my employer and a few recent paystubs. My then fiance was approved without incident on 7 Jan. 08. He's here now and we're married. There were no questions asked about my ability to sponsor him.
*julez*FemaleEngland2008-03-24 18:22:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNVC ?
You can call NVC: (603) 334-0700 - press 1, 5;

Or, you can call the US State Department: (202) 663-1225 - press 1, then 0

They both can offer the same information, but DOS seems a bit easier to get through to!

If you give them tyour EAC # and answer some questions about the beneficiary - name, DOB etc, they can give you the LND# and tell you if its on its way to the embassy. It usually only takes a few days from NOA2 to NVC to embassy for VSC filers.

I ordered tax transcripts to use as supporting evidence for the I134. They are free. Google it. It took exactly a week for them to arrive.

As for the 125%, as long as you make enough currently you will not need a co-sponsor.

Good luck!
*julez*FemaleEngland2008-03-24 15:36:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresalmost a month and the NVC still hasnt received my NOA2
The problem is with CSC. They don't immediately ship the approved petitions to NVC, like VSC does. They hold them for a few weeks until they have a full crate. Hence the great disparity in time to get to NVC between VSC and CSC.

I could be wrong but I read on a different forum that you do not actually need to file for Work Authorization and Advanced Parole because basically this is all set when you have your green card, no?

Or am I totally wrong on this part?

You don't need to file for Advance Parole or for the Work Authorization, but since the $1,010 fee for AOS includes filing these extra forms, you may as well go for it. Especially since filing AOS doesn't mean your Green Card will be issued in a timely fashion. There are several VJers who've had their AOS Applications languish in background checks for over a year, but relied on EAD an AP to work and travel prior to green card issuance.

I agree. Including pics from an unregistered ceremony doesn't seem like a wise thing to do. After all, you are trying to convince them to give you a visa so you can get married. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPlease clarify K1 initial filing fees

HI,
here are the fees:
I-129F filing - $170
Medical - Varies by country $100-$300
Visa - $100
AOS - $325 + $70 biometric fee
If you need AP or EAD they are $170 and $180 respectivly
Removal of conditions $275
Citizenship of you decide to do it $330

The fee you quoted above is WRONG! The I-129f filing fee is $455 as of 7/30/07. Also, AOS is bundled with AP & EAD, you can no longer file for them separately.

If you're going to use the ID "VISAHLP", you should, at minimum, be delivering accurate information.
