K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApril Filers 2013 K1

Ok... here are the results of my call with the Tier2 Rep.

I waited on the phone for over an hour and a half and at the end a lady answered. She said that "cases are NOT transferred back to VSC after TSC has approved them", but that within the next 30 days after approval the NVC should receive the file and I should call NVC to make sure if they got it. The same thing with the hard copy of the NOA2. She said I have to wait til the end of the 30 days, which would be on the 27th of August. If I did not get a hard copy by then, I must call them and they would send me a second copy on certified mail.

Weird, I wonder if they changed the process, or if I was given misinformation.

I haven't gotten my NoA2 in the mail yet either... I'm calling tomorrow.

Our online status now as of july 31 is RFE, my fiancee is here with me now in the Philippines and will be back next week to the US, how long does it take to receive the hard copy? maybe the ine they requestiong is the original signature of mine (bat letter of intent) and his sign the one of the form. Coz he mistakenly sent the photocopies instead of the original or that forms.

Question is:
1: how long before we receive the hard coy of the RFE.?
2: how long is the waiting time again after we send the request?

From what I've seen, which is by no means fact:

  1. Typically within 2 weeks, but it can vary depending on the distance you are from the Service Center.
  2. Once the Service Center receives your RFE Reply, it's typically Adjudicated within 2-3 weeks.

A veteran VJ'er might have better/more accurate info though. ;)

Mine turned from 'initial review' to this yesterday night......

At this time USCIS cannot provide you with information for your case. Please contact the NCSC 1 (800) 375-5283 for additional information.

To view the status of a case, please enter the corresponding application receipt number. The 13-character application receipt number can be found on application notices you have received from the USCIS. It begins with three letters such as (EAC, WAC, LIN, or SRC). Dashes ("-") should be omitted when entering a receipt number. However, all other characters, including asterisks ("*"), can be included if listed on your notice as part of the receipt number.

What does it mean has happened or is going on? I have asked this on another forum I just wanna get more feed back for peace of mind smile.png

From what I've seen that happens when your case is being worked on. I would say you have either a decision or an RFE coming soon!

I am not worried about it, Just frustrated that I can't track anything becuase they haven't updated my case online. No notices as to where it is going or if it has been sent to NVC all that stuff.  I can't be calling every day and have some timelines to look at as far as getting kids in school, and such.  I know ours was approved on the 24th and my fiance received hard copy on the Saturday.  But then he is in Texas so mailing time isn't much.

They typically say to wait 2 weeks after you "approval date" on the NoA2, before you start calling. I am still waiting for the paper, but I'll likely start calling sometime next week if I don't have the paper by then. xD

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApril Filers 2013 K1

my fiancee was on hold for 116 mins for a tier 2 officer, and he turned out to be rude and of NO help. All he said was "your file is still well within the processing time limit, and we'll have an update for you regarding your case before august 12"

my fiancee told him how every who filed with me/after me are getting approvals, and RFEs, and we're the only ones that are stuck, but the officer made some lame excuse about how there center is still processing 129F's from Feb.

idk what to do here...I'm running out of patience

USCIS has processing times of 5 months to Adjudicate a Petition. Many of the people who are April filers that are getting approvals are Texas Transfers. It does not look like your case was one of those that were transferred, so Vermont is running at a different rate than Texas. Don't compare your petition to others, because there were not many April filers left in VT.

You're still within the 5 month processing time, so have some patience. Every case is different and is processed differently. Some cases require extra looking into, such as a background check had a name hit (which is common) so someone has to check the information to find out if the name hit was for the same person or not (they check by national ID, passport number, date of birth, etc). Sometimes a Service Center slows down, or your adjudicator goes on vacation and doesn't sign your case out for one reason or another. There are a million reasons. I would stay patient until you hit that 5 1/2 month mark, which is September-October. I know this process is difficult, so do what you can to learn about the process once you get your approval and get all the documents you need to the beneficiary, such as any certificates (birth/death/divorce) anything that needs the original signatures (Letter of Intent), any proof you need to provide, etc. The more prepared you are once you get the approval the faster the embassy process will be for you. :)

I have the paper copy of our NOA2. but online still says initial review. Kinda in a reverse situation of some that don't get the physical NOA2. It was only a tier 1. I was at work and didn't have time to sit on hold for a Tier 2. I would love to see, Decision made, or Post decision activity online, so I at least know what is going on but it seems much of what happens in Texas isn't following protocal.

Then don't worry about it. The online service is just a service. The paper is what you really need.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApril Filers 2013 K1

Good Morning everyone,

So I called yesterday to ask if there has been any update on the webssite, and explained that we had received the paper copy of approval but nothing is updated on the website. All i got was, "I have nothing to do with that and you have your NOA2 so what does it matter" I was rather shocked at the rudeness. I called DoS and tehyw ere really nice but the service center...Wow.

So, I have no way of knowing if anything has been done beyond approval. they case before mine yeterday said it had been forwarded to the NVC, the one after says approved and mine still shows initial review. Don't get me wrong, I am ever so grateful to have approval already, but I would love to be able to folow progress online.

hugs and quick thoughts to those still waiting.

You'll need a copy of your NoA2 paper for the AoS. So if they give you that attitude simply state that you'll need it for an Adjustment of Status once you're married.

Also, did you speak with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Immigration Officer? You will likely need to file a service request to ask for the paper to be mailed to you and don't let them "bully" you out of it.

Our notice online was also posted on Sunday, and I was also surprised because I was not expecting that on a Sunday afternoon but hey I am not complaining!
Here is what I got on Sunday... On July 28, 2013, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.
Did anyone already received the hard copy? I am dying to read the actual NOA2!!! Impatient!

I have no idea how to make the appointment for interview, how much will it cost and when will I be able to do it.
what is the number for the NVC? Does anyone have it?

I haven't gotten my NoA2 paper yet either. If I don't get it by Friday I'm calling on Monday to file a Service Request for it to be mailed. smile.png

NVC Phone number : (603) 334-0700
You'll get packet 3 and packet 4 instructing you on what to submit, and how to schedule appointments with whom. The medical varies, but you can check your country's portal -- the embassy info should be there. The visa fee is $240 USD.

Are you sure you were approved on Sunday? Just wondering because I didn't think the government worked weekends. Lol

But yeah, I'm sure we are still at TSC. I called again today, and nothing's changed.

I've been following a thread in the NVC section and there are some late June and early July approvals still stuck there too so if yours was sent off that fast, you're extremely lucky smile.png

I believe my approval went into their systems on Sunday when they did all that maintenance and fixed a bunch of things, but I don't know when it was approved, I'll find out when I get my NoA2 in the mail, and update my Timeline and Signature accordingly. That's just the information I have at the moment. :)

As for being lucky, I applied in April, so I'm at the 4 1/2 month mark. I'm not that lucky. :P

Every case has a number, and it starts off with "EAC....". You should have one on your NOA1.

For example - EAC1390253701. you can replace the last 3 digits and get the status of the next case. EAC1390253702, EAC1390253703, EAC1390253704...and so on....just keep in mind that not all cases are k-1s so you'll have to read through.

congratulations on your noa2!

totally jealous of all those getting approved. God knows how long my fiancee and I have to wait ClockWatch2.gif

Not every case starts with EAC that depends on the service center.

Vermont it's EAC

California it's WAC

Texas is SRC

Nebraska is LIN

It will be one of those 4 Service Center codes, and 10 digits. You can find it on any I-797C or Notice of Action (NoA).

i.e. AAA0000000000

An NoA looks like this:

29q0avq.jpg

The "Receipt Number" is indicated in the top left hand corner.

Good Luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApril Filers 2013 K1

whoa. o.o

I will honestly say that while I understand how frustrating the wait is, and how stressful on relationships it can be -- we all have our trials and tribulations and we all decided to take the same road.

I haven't seen my man since I left Argentina January 22nd. I got approved, sure but it's not like I can just drive up or take an inexpensive flight to go see him. A round trip ticket to & from Buenos Aires costs $1,300+ USD. Not to mention food, apartment rental, cab rides, etc. I also have two special needs children, and my ex husband is no longer in the picture so it's just me. I can't go see him more than once a year, and him getting a visa to come here is nearly impossible unless he owns property down there.

Sure I'm excited that I got approved -- but it still means I won't see him for another 2-4 months providing everything goes well.

As for those waiting, the process for the USCIS sucks, especially since we never know what's really going on. The not knowing I think is the worst, because we think they're all just sitting there with their thumbs up their arses. This isn't the case. They have so many petitions that it would make your head spin. They process them as fast as they can, and I think the process could be improved, in the sense of giving people more feedback on what's going on, I understand that's difficult to implement on such a large scale.

One way to help with the restlessness is prepare everything for packet 3, get all the documents together, fill out the paperwork as best as you can, and start buying the things your fiance(e) will need once he/she is living with you. Start planning wedding details, keep busy. Talk every day. Learn as much as you can about the process in the next steps. If you got everything down from the interview forward, learn about the AoS process.

Focusing so much on the long term goal will only frustrate you. Make some milestones to work on. Clean out your closets, organize your Garage, redecorate your bedroom, and have your fiance(e) help you design how to do it so it'll feel like both of yours! Talk about what you want to do with your home, together, once they're here, and try to implement their taste and touch in there as best as possible so they feel at home right away. :)

DOING THINGS is the best thing you CAN do. Preparing for their arrival will make you feel productive. It will make you feel more in control, and optimistic about the process and future. It's hard, we all know that very well. While you may be forced to wait longer, people like myself (and others who are even worse off) haven't seen their significant other in nearly a year -- or more!

So while you're frustrated and upset, instead of hating on the system, take that energy out and go toss out some junk to make room for theirs!

HI Everyone,

I recently submitted I-130 for my husband from Dominican Republic. I received the first noa1 9/4/2013. Just looking for tips about what next steps I should be taking, what documents should I start making sure I have, what fees should I prepare for, ....? I also just want to get any tips from anyone who has filed for someone from the Dominican Republic, since I understand that USCIS deems DR as a high risk country what hurdles will I face and what should I prepare for?

Haha kc you'll be near us! We'll be round San Diego area.

Well Jesse mentioned honeymoon. Got THAT bug buzzing around my head...but lots of the cool places that we'd love to go (he wants to road trip to Alaska sometime...awesome but border crossing...), Iceland, even some all inclusive place...all involve border crossings. I mentioned maybe we do something round Cali...and he expressed a desire to go AWAY...And cali would always be around. okay. Hawaii? Lets try doing a very very small ceremony in Hawaii maybe and just sticking around for a few extra days for a moon of honey? wink.png

So that's what brought about Hawaii.

And my siblings all shocked..I don't think she realizes there's more to Hawaii than beaches.
Ps kc. Also, check out legoland smile.png

We are planing on making a trip to the Philippines in December to visit her family. That will be our honeymoon trip. I will just meet her in Nagoya and we will travel togther from there. I have no doubt that our K-1 won't even be in Tokyo by then. We know that after she gets here it will be quite a while before we will be able to travel anywhere, with getting status changed and settled in and everything else that will need to be done. Honeymoon before the wedding? Why be normal. LOL

You can also get information by calling the USCIS customer service line and talking to a tier 2 immigration officer. I will warn you, I hear very often that they're quite rude, so keep a cool head and remain polite.

I just got an email just like that, right after I called to speak to a tier 2 officer & I'm an April filer too. blink.png

If so, this is likely a good thing, because that means that we'll be approved (hopefully) sooner rather than later!

My NoA1 Receipt date is 4/11. As far as I've seen it's March & April.

The VSC was last processing Jan 23 cases when I called to speak to a Tier 2 Immigration Officer (which was TODAY at about 10am). I read somewhere in here that VSC was backlogged with other types of Visas so, I'm not surprised they're transferring over the K1s.

Luckily TSC seems to be processing these cases fairly quickly, so with any luck we'll be processed soon!

I called literally an hour before I got that email and spoke to a Tier 2 Immigration Officer to ask a few process questions and find out about the Alien Registration Number notice -- which by the way I was told is standard pre-processing and not a glitch after all -- so I was wondering if the call triggered it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSpeaking to a human being on the USCIS phone system

No, it's not! xD

That's awesome that you got it too. smile.png The magic jack plus devices should work with your different outlets as long as you have a USB outlet adapter meant to charge a phone and such. smile.png

It's saved us SO much money, plus the bonus is giving his family a way to contact us on the phone at any time for free after he moves here! We just have to renew the service now that they have it and it's an affordable investment. smile.png

You can use it any number of ways:

  • Plug it into a usb outlet adapter & plug a phone into the phone jack and an ethernet cable into the ethernet jack. (picture here)
  • Plug it into your usb port on your computer and plug a phone into the phone jack. (picture here)
  • Plug it into your usb port on your computer and use the PC phone app. (picture here)

The initial investment is about $60.00, this includes the device 1 year of service, the outlet adapter (for US outlets, but any USB outlet adapter will do), Ethernet cable, and USB extender. You get unlimited calls to the US and Canada, for literally $30.00 USD a year plus the $30.00 for the device. You can call landlines or cell phones. They also have a free app you can add to your smartphone [android] [apple].

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSpeaking to a human being on the USCIS phone system

Just a word of advice for other foreign fiance(e)s who will need to contact the USCIS or NVC offices...

There an awesome little device called "Magic Jack" that you can plug into any wall outlet (with a USB adapter plug), plug an Ethernet cable into and hook a phone into. You can also plug it into the USB port on your computer and use it much like the skype phone function.

This device will give you a US phone number to the area of your choice (this means free calls to your loved one back in the US as well as free calls to the USCIS or NVC offices). This enables your love to call you, you to call them, their family to call you, and for your have a local number for call backs on the USCIS/NVC phone lines. I purchased the device for my fiance and he loves it. He plans on leaving it with his family when he moves up here so they can call us free. The service is cheap ($30/year) and your first purchase includes one year of service. They only deliver to US so your fiance(e) will have to mail it to you.

The red box contains a case status update -- in my case it's a transfer. It shows the date and a rather vague outline of what is happening. They do not include any confidential or case related data in here for security reasons.

The blue box contains the link you can use to check your case status (that's the page you see in this image). This is found in the left hand menu on the USCIS homepage. You'll need your receipt number which can be found on your Notice of Action which you should've received within a week or two of your initial filing  (example shown here).

The green box contains the link you can use to sign up for electronic notifications, this is where you can log in and check your case status. Here you can see when your file was last "touched" by looking at the "Last Updated" date (example shown here). This will let you know when someone is poking about your case. Your case may have a new "Last Updated" date and you may receive an Email and/or text message notification of your case being updated, without the status of the case changing. This is due to internal USCIS processing being performed on your Case. This will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date, but may not result in a different status message.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsinterview date july 30!! medical nextweek!

Good luck!

I don't think the interviewer will judge you based on a tattoo or piercing, but I would recommend that you do your best to dress appropriately. :)

I would recommend that you wear clean clothes, that don't have stains, wrinkles holes or tears in them.

For a woman I would recommend clothes such as:

  • Nice jeans, top & blazer
  • Knee length (or below) skirt & dressy top.
  • Dress that goes to your knees or below.
  • Tops should not show too much cleavage, but don't worry if some is peeking through. :)
  • Nice shoes (no sneakers), such as heels, ballet flats, dress sandals, etc.
  • Clean makeup -- look natural and fresh! Take it easy on the eye makeup and lip color, pick natural colors and don't go too heavy!

For a man I would recommend clothes such as:

  • Slacks or khakis (really nice jeans would be ok with a blazer)
  • Button down shirt
  • Nice shoes (no sneakers) such as dress shoes, loafers, nice boots (not boots that resemble sneakers).

Remember this is an interview, you don't want to dress too casual (t-shirt & jeans doesn't look good) nor too dressy (ball gown would be a little over the top). Make sure your clothes are respectable (short skirts, really low cut tops would be inappropriate).

The style you're looking for is "dress casual" or "start up work casual".

I'm sure how you dress won't cause an outright denial, but it's good when you look well put together and respectable.

Don't forget to make sure you bring all the evidence you need with you and pour through postings people made regarding your consulate/embassy so you know what to expect. :)

Good Luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports2nd tier - reliable info?

March & April filers were transferred out of VSC, likely to TSC, so it's likely that they are approving a lot of cases that have been there for a while. A Tier 2 IO has access to your case and all the case documents. If you're not sure of how correct they are you can call again in a couple hours.

The electronic notification system is limited. The notifications are generic and will not contain any sensitive (confidential) case-related information. This is to ensure security as people's emails & phones can be compromised.

If you didn't receive an email, I would double check your account settings on the USCIS website, and your spam settings on the email account the mail is being sent to.
