AOS package..question about tax

No problem. If you're sending the 2013 tax return, you don't have to send 2012. USCIS requires the latest tax return only, so you're good.
I have a question for you, too... I posted this on Visa Journey, but I haven't got a reply yet, so I was wondering if you could.. Did you and your husband file tax as "married filing jointly"? My husband and I have been married for 2 years, but I was an international student until last August, so this is our first time filing tax together, and we are very confused. IRS says that if I was a non-resident alien and a resident alien in the same year, I have to declare that my husband and I choose ourselves to be treated as resident aliens for the entire 2013 in order to file jointly. But my husband is a US citizen, so I don't understand why he has to be treated as a resident alien. Putting that aside, I am wondering if I really have to attach a statement for the declaration, because that means we have to file tax by mail, so that we can attach a statement. But I want to file electronically if that's possible, because it's easier. Did you and your husband ever go through this? Did you write a statement and send it with tax form by mail? When I was a non-resident alien, I was working in the USA, and I had no income from outside the USA, so I don't even see the point in telling the IRS that I was a non-resident alien and a resident alien last year and that I want to be treated as a resident alien for the entire year, because if I just file jointly with my husband electronically, I would be treated the same way anyway, wouldn't I?? Just called! Both people were real nice, and I was pretty forward with them but polite. They both said they are working on January 23, uhhh yeah, i don't buy it. I tried to get transferred to a tier 2 but the one woman refused, unbelievable. So....i spoke to her, i told her "ok so january 23, then i'll just call in 3 days" then she was like "no, you should probably call in 30" then i said "okay i'll talk to you in 3."

Has anyone contacted vermont today and asked what date they are currently processing? The other day they were processing the 23rd of January. Just want to see if they have moved ahead yet seeing that my date is the 26th. Any help today or this week (if you call and ask) would be so helpful. I would call myself, but i already have a bunch of times, thought i would wait until they say they are on the 26th!

three days ago they told me they are working on jan 23 and that was two different people.

I understand clearly. I am a January 19 filer and I still have not heard anything from vermont. Last time I called they claimes still working on 6/9. Three weeks and they are still working on 6/9 filers... that is creazy. Dont make any sense at all.

what exactly is the "tier 2" i really know nothing about calling, all i know is the times i have called i had to press all kinds of numbers just to talk to a guy, is there a direct and easy way to talk to a customer service rep without going into various other categories?

I called today-the guy wasn't mean or anything, but he certainly could care less about anything I said. To be honest it seemed like he hated his job. He basically said, call in 6 days(June 26) then we will put in a request....So all in all, calling probably has neither a positive or negative effect before the priority date.

Hey thanks! it will be interesting since most the people in that thread were at manilla. Belize seems to do things in an interesting fashion, but my guess is that they are processing my case there still. They kept saying "we will contact you" and since my wife doesn't have an exact street address in her village i'm hoping they call(which they said they would) we will see. Thanks again

It depends on the US Embassy. For US Embassy in Manila, it took 7 days for batibot's case to be processed after arrival. Please see this thread. http://www.visajourn...91301-expedite/

BTW BEWARE: My RFE was sent to the wrong address. I changed my address a few month after initial application submission. I reported the address change to USCIS and received Change of Address acknowledgement at my NEW address. All correspondence from USCIS has come to my new address.....EXCEPT the RFE was sent to my OLD address. Good thing the old landlord is a family member otherwise that RFE would have been lost.

Good Afternoon. As a fellow Applicant and VM member who got transferred to Texas here is my update. My file was finally touched and my case status was changed to Request For Evidence. My Fiancé's divorce documents needed translation (#######...stupid miss on my part).

Anyways...I just sent back 2-day certified. I am hoping that is all they needed. I was more excited to actually get anything back.

Has any DEC-Jan filers returned an RFE yet? If so, How long did it take for your case update?

I will answer these question on this forum when I have my own personal answers....for anyone else in my boat.

BTW: This has got to be the most popular forum on VLJright now.

Nothing in government goes fast. And with the cases transferred to Texas...Us Dec/Jan filers are just victim of circumstances. That Circumstance being bureaucracy and political events that are slowing down the system. Obama's agenda was put in effect at the end of the year to fulfill campaign promises to the Mexican Nationals. We all just need to relax and try not to be pulled under with the tide.

We will all get what we have been waiting for.

USCIS is full of run-around and the congressman and senators are ...for all intensive purposes...in the same boat with us. They are receiving numerous letters from concerned petitioners. And in reality they have very little influence on the matter.

^{Yes...good luck everyone. I'm a 12/05/2012 filer. and was transferred to Texas a while back. I come to this forum every day to see what is happening out there. Thank you to everyone for contributing information. I also called USCIS many times and spent hours of time on hold to get to L2. Also filed a service request and received response...stating the file was moved to Texas...totally useless. My Fiancé is in Brazil...and I asked L2 if moving to Texas would extend my/reset my case file time...they said that the case will be filed in the same order as if it were in Vermont; but in Texas.}

Yes....I recieved the same notification yesterday. NOA1 dated - December 7, 2012. I searched for my local field office on USCIS web site: https://egov.uscis.g....office_type=LO

and it is literally 4 blocks from my place of employment. I think things will speed up considerably, especially for those in smaller cities like mine.

Where is Affidavit of Support Paid?

Hello all,

Yesterday I received notice that my approved !-129F application has been sent to the Department Of State (a.k.a. NVC?).

I called the NVC to determine what additional documents or fees I would need to pay from the USA.

The representative said the file will be immediately transferred to the Consulate in Brazil and the remaining documents and fees would be collected there...including the ASO (Affidavit of Support).

Is this true?

hello All,

I am Fellow Dec/2012 filer who received NOA2 from TSC (hard copy NOA2 on 7/19).

fortunately I was able to complete our I129f successfully without an attorney...everything seemed pretty clear with the instructions. ....but now im a bit lost as to what happens next.

How much is the Affidavit of Support?

Do I wait for the NVC to contact me...or should I complete and send the AOS as soon as I get a case number?

Are there any other documents the NVC will need from me before sending off to the Brazil consulate?

My fiancé is already preparing documents on her side of the coin.
