K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPOE and flights
Give yourself enough time in between flights to allow for this. I agree with iwaiting, read the reviews for your POE, it might give you a better idea of how long a process it is. It's a busy time of year to fly in general.

Here's a thread from a day or two ago which has some good answers:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp!!!!!!

Thanks for your reply. I am not in the US yet I live in England but was going to travel to the US on the K1visa to spend few days and return before it expires. Also if we want to cancel the petition do we call USCIS?

Cancel the petition now. You can enter the US using the Visa Waver Permit and stay a couple of days that way.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFeeling of Solitude in a K-1 Engagement

Besides that, this will be my first, and hopefully my last, marriage. However, many people I've talked to recently (at work) have suggested that "marriage is overrated", "people change as soon as you're married", "feelings and love don't last", etc. For the most part, I believe them, because I haven't had any real example of a stable relationship in my life. However, could these people just be bitter in their current or previous marriages? Who knows...

Someone's always got to put in their 2 cents on any given subject (like I am doing now :P). Take the advice you find useful and discard the rest and remember: misery loves company. Whenever the woman at my work want to start their stupid, we'll say, "complaint-fests" about their husbands/partners, I don't have a word to say because I've truly never been happier. That gets right under their skin and I think to myself "good".

However, I'm dreading (when we have kids) the "let me tell you how you should raise your kid" advice...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDo my circumstances apply with the K-1?

Thanks everyone for your responses :)

OK, so The CR-1 route might be the best option. The only problem that I can foresee is that I'm presently in the UK on a 2 year residence permit but as my marriage has broken down and the divorce is final on the 01/24/12 I will have to leave, however the UK home office is allowing me to remain here for a while to get my affairs in order etc even after my divorce goes though. I think they will switch me to an extended visitors visa though, will I still be able to file though the CR-1 route if I get married here?

You can still file CR-1, however, I'm not sure if you would still be eligible for DCF (which would allow you and your husband to stay together in the UK until he got his visa). If you can not file DCF (direct consular) then you will have to return to the US when your visitor visa is up and wait for him to get his visa (he will have to stay in the UK or return to the UK if he comes to visit you for a period of time).

I'd go the CR-1 visa route if you want to get married in the UK. Do you have a Settlement visa for the UK right now? Or am I getting confused, are you going back to the US just now?

The only way you'd be able to stay together is if you stay in the UK with a valid visa and you can prove residency. If you can prove to them you are a resident of the UK and that you have lived there for 6+ months you are eligible to do Direct Consular Filing, but! you will (at the interview stage) need to prove your intent to reestablish domicile in the US and you will most likely need a joint sponsor.

If you move back to the US you will have to endure a period of time where you can not be with one another.

United KingdomLondon Medical - Knightsbridge Doctors

I have a question about the physical. My fiance has chronic asthma, and occasional flareups in eczema. He doesn't seem to concerned about this affecting the results of the physical, and I worry. Does anyone have an experience about this that might ease my mind? (of course.. we don't have the NOA2 yet.. but still, I worry)

That shouldn't be any kind of issue. They're mostly looking for communicable diseases.

My medical wasn't too long ago but I am posting to say that you should leave a nice amount of time before you have to catch any coaches back home.
If you are traveling via National Express into London you will arrive at Victoria, I got a taxi for only 8.20 (sterling) to Bentinck Mansions. The whole process took around 90 mins for me as there were quite a few people there and waiting.

Was called into have chest xray done, and told to change into a black robe. Ladies take a hair grip/tie. After I chatted a moment and asked a few questions about what he could see on my xray (curiosity gets me every time). Then I was taken, still wearing a robe, to a second waiting room until I was called in to see a quietly spoken Doctor. She asked me a little about my background, I provided a letter for her from my GP stating I had had depression from 2007 and my last prescription related to it was very early 2009.
She weighed me, took my blood pressure, the usual and asked me to lay down.

I didn't have to suffer the indignity of being 'gender' checked. I think mostly because I don't have a deep voice and am well busted. She did have a little trouble finding a vein to take my blood but chatted the entire time about wedding plans and such. All in all a rather pleasant experience and not a hitch.
She told me that my blood results would be with the Embassy by the following Wednesday (3 business days away) and if I didn't hear anything from them before then that all my tests were clear.

I changed and headed out to the reception area to pay the bill, I had to ask the receptionist what the international code for the USA is (I speak to my fiance via Rebtel >_<) She allowed me to call him so she could take his card details for payment.

Afterwards I made my way to Oxford Street and was directed to the number 17 bus stop opposite The House of Frasier. This bus terminates at Victoria. Follow the signs for the coach station, National Express is there :)

Good luck to everyone else, and just remember, leave a decent amount of time (and carry an umbrella!)

Could you please tell me roughly how much the medical cost all in? Thanks :)

United KingdomUKers, beware of CANADA!
It's the Canadian customs at the airport that seem to have an issue. They've asked very pointedly several times why we have flown to Canada when I am an American who plans on going to America. They asked how much money we saved in flying with a Canadian rather than a US airline. Umm.. just a general attitude of distaste with us essentially using Canada as a "stepping stone" between countries. I've never had an issue at the Peace Bridge, it just seems to be at Lester B. Pearson.

I suppose if you want to get down to brass tacks, I have never once had a major problem getting in or out of either country. It's really just a personal preference. I, for visa purposes would just feel more comfortable having the US be our point of entry from the UK.
Mrs GHFemaleScotland2011-09-21 12:08:00
United KingdomUKers, beware of CANADA!
I'm from Buffalo, NY-- my husband and I fly Canadian Affair to go back for visits. They're cheap tickets and it's a direct flight Glasgow to Toronto, then one of my family members will drive up to get us. I know it really seems to ruffle customs' feathers doing things this way. There is no way, when we get this visa, that I'll be traveling back that route I can only imagine the hassle. I'd rather endure the 3 flights and save my nerves.

United KingdomWaiting for an interview...

It doesn't matter when you send P3 in if you haven't done the medical. So I'd say if the medical is done last, add 4 days to estimate arrival of the medical at the embassy. Then give it 3 weeks after that date before getting too panicky. I've been mulling ideas over in my head and want to create a spreadsheet to see what kind of pattern comes up. People keep pinning there hopes on when they sent in P3 and I have a couple of other theories to try out. Don't have time to get into it now because a pack of British in-laws land in about 3 hours. We're exhausted from fixing up 3 guest bedrooms and cleaning like crazy, but looking forward to their first visit to our house. Nick even put out a Union Jack flag in our flag holder. Going to tell his Mum, it's like when the Queen is in residence. :P

Oh wait...that's K1 answer and I see you're CR1. Doesn't NVC do the scheduling for you? Have you joined the UK thread in the spouse visa forum? They seem to talk about that alot, but I don't really follow it or CR1 details.

Thanks!! I'll try the UK thread. Good luck with your in-laws!! Have the complaints about not being able to find a decent cuppa started yet?? :)

Lots to consider I agree, But there are good things we have going. I've met her children and family on web and we all get along fantasticly well. I've never been married and my girlfriend has been once and always said she wouldn't do it again lol until we met. Even the children have never accepted anyone that she's dated since but have taken to me in a big way same with her mum. We have so much in common it's quite scary! The town is beautiful and the climet is right up my street as I love the sun!!!. We're well aware that theres a big difference between a web relationship and the real deal, we've never had a bad word to say to eachother as yet. So I'm hoping that theres a solid base too build on from that. Thank you for your tips thats very useful to know. Does that mean we can file for a fiancee visa when I arrive? If they let me in that is lol.

Thank you all again.

If you plan on getting married December 2011 then NO you will not be able to file for a fiance visa when you arrive in the US.

Can I ask why you are going to Lloyds? My GP's surgery gave me my flu shot and all the other vaccinations at no charge. You'll need them for AOS later too.

Some GPs will charge, especially if you don't "qualify" for a flu shot.

Seasonal flu vaccine

The seasonal flu vaccine is offered free of charge to people with an increased risk of serious complications from flu. See Health A-Z for information about who should have the seasonal flu vaccine, including a list of medical conditions that put you at higher risk from flu.

That's from the NHS website and I know my GP charges.

My husband had his medical yesterday. Same thing with the flu shot-- I know it troubled him deeply as a Scotsman having to pay an extra £21 (hahaha) for something he could have got for free, but he had his wits about him and didn't want to waste time so he just got it. He said the whole thing was pretty cut and dry. Hopefully we both get our interview dates in the next couple of weeks!! :)

Nich-Nick, you are fabulous!! Thank you so much for taking the time to type all this explanation out. I really can't express enough how appreciative I am for this. I'm feeling very prepared for London right now, but I won't have that major sigh of relief until he has that visa in the post! Then all we'll have to worry about is poor wee mum coping with the move :(

United KingdomInterview- accompanying spouse/fiance(e) to the Embassy?
My dad is my joint sponsor-- he's employed and makes well over 125% of the poverty guideline as required per household size. I have copies of his 1040's (all filed on time) and all w2's for the 3 most recent tax years and copies of his pay stubs.

Question is: Do you think I should have him get transcripts as well, just as a precaution? I mean I am one for following directions down to the ground and it states you don't need transcripts if returns have been filed on time and you have the W2's but, you see, paranoia is setting in...

That was my affidavit of support question.

The only other lingering question is:

Do I need an ORIGINAL certified copy + photocopy of the household member's birth certificate?

I have an original certified copy + photocopy of my dad's BC (is the original even needed?). My step-mom is his household member who is willing to allow her wages and assets to be used as well (even though my dad qualifies on his own), they do file joint taxes.

I really do apologize if this isn't very coherent, but any light you can shed on this would be an immense help.

Harrod's will be a lovely place to visit. Pick up a £600.00 box of Christmas crackers while you're there.

If you haven't seen London's Christmas lights, you might want to spend the night. Some beautiful sights on Oxford St near the West End or on Regency St near Picadilly Circus. Now I'm excited and wish we were going to London again.

I wonder what you'd get one of those Christmas crackers?! I'm interested in having a peek in Liberty too...

We're spending the night at the Travelodge in Marylebone. So short walk from the embassy and the shops. I've never been to London, so it'll be great!

When you went to the interview with your husband did they ask you any questions? Or was is just the beneficiary they wanted to hear from?

We just received our interview date in the mail today for the 23rd of November!! (This will give me cause to be off work since I usually take time at Thanksgiving)

Anyway, my question is: Has anyone accompanied their spouse/fiance(e) to the interview in London? My understanding is I just call that premium number, get the code and e-mail the London Embassy with my details explaining that I plan on going with my husband.

I had thought since I live in the UK (where by we were eligible for DCF) that it would be strange if I weren't with him? Plus, I'd like a wee jaunt down to London myself :)
Mrs GHFemaleScotland2011-10-29 06:19:00
United KingdomWhy did you decide to make the move to the USA and not the other way?
Well, I am the USC who moved to the UK to marry and live with my husband. Reason being, he was planning on going back to Uni to get qualifications and he could go to school for free here. Also, I'm a small town girl and the idea of living abroad was exciting to me.

Our intention was always to move back to the US, though. I have a large family and I want to raise my children in the United States. My husband LOVES America (always has since he was a "wee boy") and is planning on becoming an American citizen- something that is very important to him and touches me.

That said, I do have a great affection for the British. I have, fortunately, always been treated well for the 3 1/2 years I've been here. My in-laws are wonderful and have been very kind and supportive and I've made some wonderful friends. I am very pleased that I was able to live in my husbands home town, grow from the experience of living abroad and share a facet of his life that I might have otherwise known little of. Oh! and discover JAFFA CAKES (they have yard-long boxes of them right now at Tesco- !!)

We are ready to come home now!!!

(Keeping my fingers crossed that our interview date will be in the mail in the next week or so)

I'm sure there's a lot of people on this board who's parents, grand parents or great grandparents served during the First and Second World Wars. I also know there are those here who have a husband/wife, fiance(e) or who themselves currently serve or have served in a branch of the armed forces.

I thought it would be appropriate to start a thread in their honor today.

Today, we personally remember my great-grandfathers (one American and one Canadian) and my husband's grandfather who served in the two respective World Wars.

It was my understanding that you could not schedule a medical until you have the appointment letter in hand?

Hi guys!

I got NOA2 quite a while ago now, but had t wait a bit before sending IV and AOS packets. Just sent them today (£20for 2 photos, and £10 to send it - outrageous!)

So, just sitting and waiting now!

All going well, 2 weeks through NVC from what I can gather, and then how long can I expect to wait for the interview date?

and just to double check, I cant get the medical until I have the interview date?

No, you can and should get the medical done before the interview date. I'm sure on the London Embassy website it says that an appointment will not be scheduled until they have the results of the medical. Do you have your ACPO police certificate yet?

Yay! So exciting! The medical should be fine... my husband went for his a few weeks back and said it was no big deal. Do you have all of your jabs? You'll need the flu shot (for sure) and MMR (maybe?)... Cheaper to get it on the NHS and Boots or ASDA for the flu shot.
