US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNeed interview help...
She will need:
I-134 --affidavit of support

supporting papers for the affidavit: 1)letter from your employer, stating the job, the date you were hired, salary etc, 2)the latest pay stubs; 3) tax returns (I heard 2 tax returns would be enough); 4)if you can show some assets (bank accounts, IRA etc) even better...

renewed letter of intent (dated closer to the possible interview...and signed, of course)

a copy of the file you sent to USCIS (all the forms, your birth ceritificate, everything)

make sure you save the boarding passes from when you come to Romania, but I would not recommend that you guys show photos from your informal wedding to the CO at the interview. It will take a hell a lot of time and effort to convince them it was informal.

Mult noroc! Best of luck!

You can open the plastic envelope! That's where your passport is, so it's OK  ! Don't open the brown envelope, though! Also, it's ok that the brown one has one of the corners cut. Mine had one too...and I think most of them (if not all of them)have the same cut. Congrats over receiving your visa!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 Visa Packet 3 Question

Hello to all again :)

As we start our process down the k1 journey we had a question we had not found the answer to.

As we complete the initial k1 packet and submit, once to pass processing and be sent to bucharest, romania via the CO.

They will be to contact the beneficiary with packet #3. Our impressions have been that this packet includes the following:

1. To fill out the online visa application form
2. To bring an update k1 documents (to include all) to the interview
3. Police Report
4. Medical/vaccination check

Is there more information requested than this?
I live in Iasi, will there be places to go to police and medical in Iasi or will I have to travel to bucharest (7-8h by train-location of only US embassy) to fulfill these requests of information?

Any information you could provide on this topic would be much appreciated.
Thanks :)

I'm not sure what the question is, but I hope I can help you clarify some things...

Once the petition is approved, your file is sent to NVC, where you'll be assigned a case number. The file is usually there for only a few days and then mailed to the Consulate in Bucharest. The consular officers will contact the beneficiary by sending the packet 3 that includes the forms that need to be filled out. The beneficiary doesn't have to wait for the packet 3 though...She should fill out the forms online from here ...being very careful to fill out the correct form. The beneficiary usually gets the packet 3 in 3-7 days after the Consulate receives the file from NVC.

For the interview she will also need to pass the medical exam (there are only 3 clinics approved by the Embassy and all 3 are in Bucharest, so she will have to go from Iasi to Bucharest for her medical; for the sake of convenience, she can have her medical exam the day before the interview).

Police clearance is needed from any place the Romanian citizen lived in from the age of 16 for at least one year. Nowadays the police report is obtained in just a few minutes from the local (Iasi) police department.

Good luck!

How about the vaccination list ? Is that really required , I haven't seen it in ur reply and if "yes" that means :

  • a copy of the "fisa de vaccinari"
  • AND(?) "adeverinta de la medicul de familie"

I have some issues with that bcz of the very "organized" romanian medical system.

PS I keep writing in english bcz my fiance reads these too and he doesn't speak a word in romanian!
Ooooops : And apparently I didn't post in the correct section of the forum

Thx so very much !!!

Actually, the rules of VJ say that we have to write in English (except on the regional forum, the "Hello Romania" forum)...so you're fine :P....and I am glad your fiance is involved in this too.

Before you go for your medical exam you need to pay a visit to your family doctor to get your record of vaccinations (ever since you were a baby), "fisa de vaccinari". Your doctor should also give you a letter attesting that you are clinically healthy ("adeverinta" you are talking about). You will take them with you at tthe medical exam where you will be anounced whether there are any more vaccinations you need. I only needed Tdp (anti-tetanos) because we're supposed to get one every 10 years. Depending on your age, the doctor might try to convince you need anti-HPV (anti human papilloma virus imunization...but you DON'T need it anymore, so decline it; the doctors will try to get more money from you by sending you to dermatology if you have moles or telling you you need vaccinations that you don't. Make sure you do your homework, download the list of needed vaccinations for immigration - you can find it if you google it).

Best of luck!

oh and you'll have to have all the supporting docs for I-134 (letter from employer stating the salary etc, copy of the last 2-3 tax returns, bank statements and so on)...but you'll only need to bring them with you at the interview.

P.S: police clearance is indeed "cazier"

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionConsulate requirements for K1 interview in Romania

Apparently I have a long wait for my NOA2 but I've heard we can speed up the process, at least between receiving the NOA2 and the interview by having all the docs they will require ahead of time and by picking the envelopes directly at the embassy instead of being mailed. For Romania, is that true we will need:

  • medical check
  • vaccines proofs
  • security clearance in every city I used to live ( is that "cazier") ?

Please correct me if I am wrong !

Yes, you need to go to one of the 3 medical centers approved by the US Embassy:
1. Mrs Mara Toma
Unirea Medical Center(They changed their address)
Address: Costache Negri nr. 1-5, Bucharest
Phone number: (004) 021 318 7740
Mobile: (004) 0724 299 331, (004) 0743 439 612

2. Mrs Felicia Titeica
Colentina Hospital - Clinica de Neurologie, Etaj 1
Address: Soseaua Stefan cel Mare nr. 21, Sector 2, Bucharest
Phone number: (004) 021 318 0600

3. Bio-Medica International
Address: Calea Floreasca nr. 111-113, Sector 1, Bucharest
Phone numbers: (004) 021 311 7793, (004) 021 311 7794, (004) 021 311 7795

You will receive the medical exam results in a sealed envelope that you should NOT open and will take with you at the interview!

The needed forms are (if I remember well):
I-134 affidavit of support filled out and signed by the US citizen
I-156 (2 copies)
I-156K
You should not sign these, as you will be asked to sign in front of the consular officer.
DS-230

You need to get a police clearance from every city you lived in (since you were 16 years old) for at least 1 year. The clearances are usually given the same day and the tax is 10 lei (+ 2 lei if you pay through the post office).

You should also have:
- a renewed letter from your fiance stating that he will marry you within 90 days (the same letter he submitted to USCIS when you guys applied, but dated closer to the interview)
- your birth certificate (and copy)
- passport style photos
- any divorce papers (yours and/or your fiance's)
- copy of the NOA2
- copy of the file you guys submitted - I129f etc. (I didn't need it, but it's good to have it)
- lots of proofs of relationship

Good luck!

US Citizenship General DiscussionAOS co-sponsor question
My husband's tax returns for 2009 showed a $5,000 debt (he and his ex owed to IRS for a short sale) but it was not an issue at the consulate in Bucharest. He makes well over the poverty line. You need to make sure you earn enough to support everyone in the household and past taxes issues should not matter. Back everything up with W2, pay stubs and bank accounts. Good luck!

so you need to apply for removing conditions first (and asap) and apply for citizenship after the 3 yr anniversary of your becoming resident (the "resident since" date on your first 2 yr GC)...ROC first, then citizenship around June 2012. Good luck.

CanadaAT&T Nation with Canada Plan

Hi All,

I was in the US for 6 months last year working and so during that time I signed on with AT&T. I moved back to Canada this year to get the K1 process started and took my US AT&T phone with me. Initially I was debating keeping it or not (ahem roaming fees!) and around that same time AT&T released this great plan called "Nation with Canada". On this plan you can have 450, 900 or more minutes for respective $59.99, $79.99 etc. per month. These minutes are good for calls in US or Canada and while you are in Canada there are NO roaming fees (for any calls). Also NO long distance fees for calls ANYWHERE in Canada/US. Now if you have a smart phone (iphone) it also gives you discounted data roaming fees while you are in Canada at $2/MB. Which is less then the usual $30/MB or so when roaming. Of course when you're back in US the unlimited data kicks back in and you have unlimited mobile to mobile AT&T/A-list perks. I'm sure many of you may already know of this plan, or if not hope it helps!!

CanadaNeed help with the USCIS timeline table

Hi everyone,
I was looking at my timeline today, and realized that according to VJ, I should have gotten an answer on my AP, and soon for my EAD. I was trying to look at the USCIS timeline, and I can't figure it out...
On the link from VJ to check the timeline, there are three boxes at the end of the page:
Field Office:
Service Center:
National Benefits Center (also known as MSC):

I have no idea what to select... My case (AOS) has not been transfered to CSC, and is still at the Chicago lockbox as far as I know... Please enlight me on what I need to put down, I'm lost and cofused!

Check this Link AOS October , contact other October filers. I noticed that your biometrics were taken rather late, and I know that can delay a case. I don't think you have anything to worry just yet.

Unless you got an email saying that your file was sent to CSC, your application IS at the National Benefits Center; Chicago Lockbox is only USCIS' "bank".

Hope you'll have good news soon!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionwhen should I file i-751?

Hi,
My temp green card will be expire in early November which mean i should be able to file i751 in early Aug.(8/3-11/3)
I have two business trips to foreign countries within the 90 days before it expires.
1st trip- 8/1 to 8/22
2nd trip-9/5-9/19
I have been thinking to file it in early Aug but i am worried that if they request me for interview or do biometrics in Sept which will be in conflicts with the dates of my second trip.
Should I wait until come back from 2nd trip which is after 9/19? what is the recommendation here? There is no way to reschedule the trips.

thanks,
tako

I think you could easily file after you are back from your second trip. You would still have 45 days till the GC expires. You could also have everything ready & packed and ask someone you trust to mail the packet closer to your return home (like, Sept. 10 or something); by the time you are back you would have NOA1 and you ca get ready for biometrics too.

If your approval letter says Feb 24 but the greencard has Dec. 20 as expiration date on it, I'd make an infopass appointment...or follow the directions that came with the card for what to do when you find something wrong with the card.

I hope though that we both have not thought of any other explaination of the two different dates that would spare you from having to get a new card. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. I followed the instructions as for what to do if I find an error etc...so I called USCIS. Apparently I'm supposed to mail the card and supporting documentation to a PO Box in Arizona. God knows how long that will take! :bonk: Getting so tired of all of this...

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionGC info and ROC
I just received my GC and something I noticed poses some issues I was hoping you guys can help me with. Our AOS was approved on February 24, 2011, but my GC shows that I have been a resident since December 20, 2010!!! How is that even possible? That's the date on which I had my biometrics. Now I wonder if there was a problem with their system or what...and when I should apply for ROC: within the 90 day window till December 20, 2012 or within 90 days till February 24, 2013? All my records say I got approved on Febr 24, except for the GC that says I've been a resident since last December. Any input will be greatly appreciated...

PhilippinesAnyone here who didn't meet their Love online?
I met my fiance in Israel in 2008; I had volunteered for the archaelogical dig he was co-directing and we met at the airport. It was instant recognition (as soapy as that might sound to some). He knew we were meant to be together, but I was scared, thinking we are coming from 2 different worlds etc. etc. In the end nothing mattered; distance, problems...everything was overcome in real partnership and now I can say I cannot wait to start the rest of my life with him (L)

PhilippinesConnecting flight

Hi

Commonly, when you cross the border of a country you will need to check your luggages.
You will left it in Manila, and probably you need to pick it up in Japan, and finally in Detroit, after Detroit the airlane will do that for you till your final airport in USA.

Hmm, in November I had a layover in Paris, but I did not re-check my luggage there...Now I am wondering if that was the case because both Romania and France are part of the European Union :innocent:  . Hope some more experienced fellow VJs can answer to your post pookie123  ...

It is my first International flight, any ideas will be appreciated

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsA thank you

Hi everyone,

As someone who is now spending his first day in america following a successful K-1 process I would like to publicly say thank you to everyone here who take the time and the effort to help others. Without the help of everyone here I would have been significantly less well prepared for every step of this procedure, and despite the last minute "oh ######!" moments when reading more info the day before my interview, everything went fantastically.

I wish everyone the best of luck in their applications, and I will attempt to pay back all the help I was given in turn as I know how horrible this whole process is.

And now, to marriage and AOS :)

Regards,

Arch & Teresa

Congratulations Arch and Teresa. We're all very happy for you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsEVIDENCE OF RELATIONSHIP

Hi Im starting the k1 visa process. I have a question:do i have to print out all my messenger conversations during a year? text messages, everything?
wow its a lot of work! tell me ur own experience...english or spanish is ok.
Thank u.

Hi! My fiance and I sent the forms in May; we only selected a couple of email threads for each month. I really don't think it's necessary to print each and every email or chat. What I also plan on doing, for when I am called for the interview, is to take pics of my inbox, print them on A4 paper and take them with me. This way they will see the thousands (literally) of emails, without having to actually go through each and every one of them.

You should also know, that emails and chats are not enough when it comes to providing proofs of relationship; at best they can show you two are pen-pals, but that's not enough. Make sure you gather together plane tickets, boarding passes, copies of the passport stamps, cards (with postal stamps/dates), photos of you two together in different places (and it would be great if you could set your camera to print the date on the photo).

Best of luck!
