PhilippinesPort of entry

My wife, (I'm still getting used to saying that,) came in through Detroit on K1 last July.  She had only 90 minutes to clear and catch her connecting flight to Cleveland, so I drove up and met her there.  Here's what happens:  She'll get off the plane and get in line with all the other passengers.  Have her hold all of her documentation in her hand so anyone directing the line will see them.  She will probably be directed to another line and the CBP will take all of her paperwork and ask a few questions, (who is the petitioner?  where will you live? etc.)  He/she will then remind you that you have 90 days to get married.  Stamp and gone.  Pick up her luggage and go to customs.  It goes pretty quick.  My wife was out in plenty of time to catch her connecting flight.  I made her ride in the car anyway.  2 hours will be plenty of time in my opinion.

Congrats!!!

PhilippinesDo I really have to wait 7 days after medical to go to the interview
My wife finished the medical on a Friday, then we had our interview the following Tuesday. The file had made it without issue. I would still give it 7 days to be sure, but, like Hank said, even if they don't have it, it will be a short delay until the magic visa is approved.

PhilippinesStopping in Taiwan and Hawaii before final destination?
I don't think a stopover in Taiwan will cause any issue. Her US POE will be Hawaii. Once she clears immigration and customs there, she will be on US soil. No more inspections!! Good luck and congratulations!! Looks like it's going to be a GREAT Christmas for you 2!!!!

PhilippinesCalling/Messaging in LA POE
I gave my wife a trac phone when I was over for the interview. I loaded it with a $25 card, and away we go!! She texted me as soon as she landed in Detroit. Worked like a charm. It may be a little late in the game for you though. Not a lot of time to get anything to her before she takes off.

Philippinesplease help. BiG problem ahead

Leave a resignation letter on the day of your flight (or maybe give it to a co worker) and then just go..disappear. Be happy with ur fiance. You can still find other better jobs in the US. Good luck! :)

better yet, just text your resignation in from the airport. It will all be forgotten when you land in the US and your fiance meets you at the airport with flowers...

Having just gone through the I-130 route for my MiL with the plan to bring her last daughter over.

We found that the time was very much shorter if MiL did the petitioning and not my wife.

I would say run the papers in your wife's name.

-Phil

My wife is not yet a citizen Phil.  Not even LPR yet, (forthcoming soon I hope.)  From what I've read, it takes a lot longer for LPR's to do the I-130 route.  I'm not sure who MiL is?

Yup that means I-130.   That sucks.

Ocean bottoms and attorneys go together like rum and coke.

Ok, Hank, oh wise one, what would be faster? My wife petitioning her daughter, or me petitioning my step-daughter? Is this an F2A?

thanks for your responses. My attorney suffered from a condition known as 'you're fired'. He, among other things, never named her daughter on the I129F. She was named in the other documents we brought to the interview, (DS156, 156K, etc,) but not the petition. I guess that means it's I-130 time. Maybe I should bill my ex-attorney for the extra fee?

Ok!! We're married now and in the midst of applying for AOS. Her 5 year old daughter is still across the pond, and we want to bring her over. I know I have to file an I-130 for her daughter as the 'step-father'. My (unrelated) question is this: Does her daughter now have my last name? We were married in the US last August. Does registering the marriage at the Philippines Consul General do that for us?

Just curious what her name on her passport will be.

PhilippinesPetitioner at interview?

I went last June.  It seems like yesterday!!  I was with my wife, (then-fiance,) for the whole process.  The American consul asked me more questions than her.  I wouldn't have missed it for the world!!

Philippinesdepature tax

Does every Filipino have to pay that pesky 1620P departure tax every time they leave the PI?  Just curious...

PhilippinesDriving in Philippines. Have you done it with car rental ?

We rented a car once, (we'll call her 'Ivan...rental car from Hell.)  First of all, it had a busted wheel bearing, which groaned all the way to Subic and back, (we rented in Angeles.)  I think it cost about 2k for the one day.  We left early in the morning for Subic Bay, so traffic wasn't really an issue.  Coming back around 11PM was a different story.  I think I aged 5 years once we got off the freeway until we got back to the hotel.  I think I'll stick to trikes to get around from now on.

PhilippinesMy rant

It does not matter what the age difference is.  You could be 80 and your wife could be 18.  You are breaking no laws, you are both happy, and that is the end of it and nobody else's business.

Candy and I are 16 years apart, and she speaks with a thick Filipino accent.  And she is smart and hard working and very good at handling people (especially me).  Whoever does not like it, too bad for them.

Amen

PhilippinesMy rant

That is totally unacceptable and you did right in calling the police.

We get our share of looks when out and about but nary a peep out of anyone.

You may do well to invest in a small peep hole camera..

wifi-mc1a-90.jpg

That would for sure ruin "that person's" day if the police had video of them doing that.

Thanks Hank et al!!  I'm considering the camera already.  It is totally unacceptable behaviour of so called 'adults'.

We get some stares too, and I've accepted them.  My 10 year old daughter accompanied us on a shopping/site seeing tour of Amish country last Saturday.  I'm sure alot of folks were wondering why my 2 daughters didn't look alike!!

LOL

PhilippinesMy rant

So, we get home last night after some shopping.  I have a picture of a Canadian flag printed off and attached to my front door of my apartment.  When I looked at it last night, the word "Pedifile" was scribbled on it.  My wife is considerably younger than me, but we have been VERY happy since she's arrived and I know I made the right decision on getting her over here.  She is the ONE for me!!

I've contacted the property manager and the police to file a report on this vandalism.

Has anyone else experienced this intolerance since bringing their Asawa to the US?

PhilippinesCR-1 traveling through Beijing or other foreign ports

I flew throught Beijing my 1st trip to the PI.  13.5 hour layover on the way there...and I had to cart my luggage around for that time.  7 hours on the way back but they checked my luggage straight through to Chicago.  Oh!!  We had to sit on the tarmac for 2 hours on the way home waiting...and waiting...and waiting.  Like they said, do NOT go through Beijing

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAnother dumb question
Hey...thanks for your responses!! I guess I'm in for the long wait now. Going back to my previous post, I guess I'll plan on being there for the interview, just to support and not give the CO's anything to question. Once the visa is approved, I'll just book a ticket for her, and meet her at the airport!! She wants to see and touch snow? She will change that soon enough!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAnother dumb question
Ok...since October 1st, we've heard nothing. I've been keeping an eye on the USCIS website to see if there's been any change from 'Initial Review', (or whatever it's called.) According to their timeline schedule or the I129F, the California Service Center takes 5 1/2 months to process. I know my next step is the NVC, then Manila. I hate to ask this, mostly because I probably won't like the answer, but here it is: how much longer can we expect to be waiting? I guess I have to provide an affidavit of support to the NVC at some point. I guess I'm asking for a somewhat accurate timeline. When we get the appointment for the medical and interview, I have to start booking a flight to meet her in Manila.

Curiously yours,

ron

Thank you all for the replies. I'll split the difference and call at the end of March. :)

Ok...5 months tomorrow since the petition was filed. I know that it says on the uscis website the CSC is taking 5 1/2 months to process. Doing some reading here tells me different. Should I contact USCIS soon after the middle of next month comes? Can it hurt me? Is there someone there that answers the phone, looks up my file, then moves it to the bottom of the pile for just asking? Or, should I wait until the end of next month to contact them?

That's awesome!! There's hope for me yet!! I sent my attorney an email today for update/reassurance. Maybe he'll have some news if and when he gets back to me. I'm an October filer. Time does move eventually.

Hi!! Quite a story!! I don't think the year anniversary will make any difference now. Your husband is getting a green card, right? He can petition to have his son join him anytime after that. Check with other posts here, but I think that's the way it works. You apply through USCIS here stateside.

Hope that helps.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsquestion.. please answer thanks
First of all, congratulations on getting your approval!! My fiancé is in the Philippines too!!

Your first POE is Guam. Just get off the plane, and follow the crowd to the immigration folks. Wait in line, and give to the first representative that motions you to forward. Follow their directions, and you should be fine. I hope there won't be too much of a delay there. I know there's not much time between flights when you hit Guam. If you do end up taking longer, just go to the United Airlines rep, and they will probably re-route you. Gives you some time to enjoy Guam. Really...you can enjoy it as a K-1 visa recipient!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsThat today was the day, but no.

I am expecting my NOA2 anyday now, and got a text from the USCIS which got me excited. Unfortunately, it was a text saying they changed my address. I did not move and did not change my address, so I will call and clear it up with them later when they open. I was wondering others got this today or was it an isolated incident?
