Girl, they just don't know. I tell my people AMERICA is not JOKE! It no EASY! But, you have to be willing to try. My fiance had no INTENTIONS at all to ever come here, but it just happened that we ran into each other and fell in love. We discussed the adjustment process a lot, but I told him, he won't know until he gets here and starts working and gets into the American way of life. I told him, if it's too much for him to handle I'll go back with him. It's easy for me to say that, because that's been my plan for many years.

I'm glad we are on the adjustment topic - that's my biggest worry about Anthony. We have spent countless hours on the phone talking about it and I'm trying to explain to him the differences in US and JA, especially because of the "bush" I live in. He doesn't quite understand there is no bus or taxi to hop on. Even my daughter (who just turned 6) is worried that he will come with his shorts on when we still have snow!! But so far he has the right attitude about it, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But I will galdly take any suggestions you gals through at me......

it all comes down to when he gets here...everything will seem "OK" until the 1st day u leave him alone in the house and go to work..try to find something in ur area he can do...something to keep him occipied until he starts working

Thanks Kimmy......and the "honey-do" list is already started. good.gif

Grew up in Clarendon, but has lived in Kingston for past 2 years.

Afternoon Yawdies!!

JG...Hey girl...I can't even imagine the frustration you were feeling during this time. I think about that kind of stuff all the time...folx from back home trying to take advantage of my husband when he reaches here just because they think that he will have it made. Hell, I experience that from time to time now. People always asking him to ask me for stuff, or they will ask him for stuff (even though he doesn't have much) and they feel like it's ok because they believe that he has an American wife that will take care of it. RASS!! I've listened to him tell them that he is" NOT asking me for anything for them! If they want something they should work for it, because she works hard for the things that she has and why should he (or they) take that from me?" Over the past year he has begun to see who his "real" friends are and who are not...and at times it's been hurtful for him, but like I told him, you'll eventually see people's true intentions once you learn to say NO! Luckily for me I've never had that problem! LOL...but saying NO to those that were trying to take advantage of him was something he was not good at doing when we first met a few years ago, and he would always end up on the shi##! end of the stick! But he's come a long way. I tell him it's only going to get worse once he's here because he'll have DIRECT access to more, but he feels like he will be able to handle it...we'll see...Anyway, I'm glad that you and Andre are working through this together, and I know the two of you will continue to stay strong and make the right decisions for YOU and YOUR family! Tell Andre to never mind de bad man dem!! And that the yaardies on VJ got his back if he needs us!! BULLET! BULLET! BULLET!! laughing.gif laughing.gif

Part of the problem is that Andre had a good job for the last 6 years in JA. He took care of all those freeloaders before and now they feel he needs to continue. We are not in the position to do that. They are not getting that. I feel like any one of them can work. In the family situation alone, there are 5 adults capable of working. Andre also says you are a fool if you starve in Jamaica. There were many times we would fish in the sea, go crabbing, and then climb trees for our dinner.

What you said about the friends......sadly, Andre had many friends in JA. Of them, only 2 of them have not shown their face. The JA friends that remain otherwise, are those who are in the US or Canada. It's been a real eye opener for him. It makes me sad. Really sad.

Morning all and congrats on baby Kayla!

We are already going through this friend issue - DJ has had some tough times in the past few months, starting with his car being stolen. He has learned very quickly who is a true friend and who is not - it's hard to sit by and watch your man hurting - DJ is always the one who helps everyone too, and when he needed it, none of them were around.

And, my frustration item of the day - Another phone gone, he left his cell in a taxi wacko.gif

try having the jamaica tours bus, almost being stolen from mr. jengles yard down in j.a. he almost lost his job, we almost had to postponed the wedding because they took the bus away from him and he was making No money and felt that as a man, he should contribute.

sometimes some good people go thru some very bad tings, in j.a. and elsewhere.

Lawny - girl can I tell u, your ex is getting in MY nerves. I hope when u came back you blew him UP!..sorry to hear of all the things that are going on right now, but remember God doesn't give u more than you can handle. we will pray for you daily.

Shauna and likkle Ms...update kicking.gif

Kayla Leilani Francis made her debut at 12:18 AM (today), by emergency c-section. Shauna has been in the hospital for the past few days because her BP was up and the Docs didn't like that. Kayla is 8 lbs 12 oz and almost 21 inc long. Shauna had to have a vertical c-section because the little one was NOT ready to come out and was still tucked up so far and they "vacummed" her outta there.

She's tired and feeling good. The baby is great ! Shauna will remain in the hospital for up to 5 days. She won't be online for quite awhile.

Once she's out of the hospital and settled, I'll be making a trip to see her and the little one.

Kelly

Kelly, I got you e-mail. Thank you so much for the update.

Please give Shauna and the little one my best. I'm so happy for them.

hear hear, same thing with mr Jengs. but going back down and seeing how helped him, really let him see who his real friends were.

Hey JG,
That situation sucks. My husband has not had people try any illegal #######,for sure if that started, he's get a swift kick to the butt. Andre better understand (I'm sure he does) that once you are married, any crime conviction can become a civil case against both married parties. Anything he participates in will drag you down too. Just not worth it. I know I'm preaching to the choir!! But, my man does get hounded by "Friends" 24 hours a day, asking for money.............. from everything from chicken feed to baby formula. They do catch an attitude when he denies them, saying that "he got rich and switched" Which is funny because he gives and gives and gives, and at some point you have to stop momentarily and take care of yourself. Its so draining!!
Well, hang in there and NO FUNNY BUSINESS..........

This is the part I have to constantly preach on. Like I said, he accepted the Western Union payment and then sent it on to JA before I knew about it. I threw a fit. Once I explained what I thought was going on and the consequences, he was mad. He did deny this person the next time he called, so I know he's learned.

I preach over and over and over again, you cannot do this, this, this........because it's illegal and you are an immigrant. They will jail you and then deport you. He gets it. It's just so hard when so many of his so called friends and family are all bombarding him from all sides.

he should tell them he can't get rich, cause they keep calling him, i'm sure you as his wife, would be interested to know he's working for other people he can't even call to help him, should he ever need it.

The ironic thing, Jengs, is they ALWAYS seem to have money for those phone cards.

.
I said a special prayer for you yesterday, I thanked God that you are in Andre's life and not some other woman who would encourage him in that foolishness. and yes, they always seem to find money to put credit on their phones and phone cards.

Forbes, you are voicing what I have been saying as well. I told him if they really cared about him, they would not use him, nor try to put his future in that kind of danger. What kind of friend is that? If we can't help you, you will try to destroy us. That is just so wrong.

I'm so sorry about your friend. When I heard the Western Union thing, I saw that flashing before my eyes. I kept the receipts and documented what transpired in case I needed to defend us in the future.

Thank you for sharing. I put it out there cause I knew someone would have some words of wisdom. I suspect I will hear some more. It really does help me to work through some of this stuff.

exactly, and why would he even be expected to go along with these schemes, friends wouldn't jepordize his future, they would respect it.

just read the article, can't belive the flooding is that bad! mr jengles is from Parrytown.

here is a little friday reading

I asked God to take away my habit.

God said, No.

It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; it isn't granted,
it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No. I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.You must grow on your own,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No. I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all
things.

I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.God
said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

THIS DAY IS YOURS. DON'T THROW IT AWAY!

May God Bless You!

be the world"

"May the Lord Bless you and keep you,
May the Lord Make his face shine upon you,

babysitting fees are the killer..disney wanted $11.00 per hour for one of their kid camp, or u could do in room for $16.50/hr for two kids. to me that is a bit steep, especially when u want them only when the kids are sleeping at night.

was thinking about Altantis, they ususally have a sale around sept or oct. and would need the meal plan as that place is EXPENSIVE

Jengles, have you ever tried Skyauction.com? They have several places in the Bahamas on there, you just have to read the fine print before you bid to make sure you understand the additional charges.

I won an auction on there for my next JA trip - one of my favorite hotels in Negril, and it's costing me about 1/3 of what it would normally be. One of my friends uses it for romantic overnights with her hubby - she gets good deals on hotels near them.

Morning everyone!

I want to be anywhere but work right now! I feel so crappy, I just want my bed sad.gif

Actually they are trying to make it more adult now. They tried the family thing about 10years ago and it wasn't working. Vegas lost so much money.....kids don't shop, kids dont gamble, kids dont drink alcohol. So now Vegas is totally adult...darn near Xrated at many places. Most of the kiddie places have closed down or are soon closing. I have alot of current project in Vegas and it has nothing to do with the kiddies no more. I wouldn't suggest Vegas for anyone with kids...unless you're staying at a timeshare...and I wouldn't suggest a timeshare in the middle of vegas when you have amazing hotels...get my drift. Vegas is the best for single ladies, or couples who just want to have a wild time....hence I LOVE IT!!! haha

I have to put this on the to do list, been trying to get there for a long time, but i'm not much of a gambler.

I remember those times too, Jengs. Only thing that kept me going .

When is Mr. Jeng's birthday? Might help us suggest something.

his birthday is Nov. 11th, veterans day, so it will be cold here, so i'm looking for someplace warm and not to expensive, if I can plan from now, just a four day something. looking at cancun, bahamas, or a cruise.

i've heard good things about cruises, if we do the cruise thing, i will have to bring my grandmother cause she keeps saying she wants to go on one, but i don't have a problem bringing her, but i'd have to get another cabin.

I want to go near Cancun and visit the Mayan Ruins. Las Vegas is on our list too.

Las Vegas would be good, but we can't bring the kids.

This stupid (that is the nicest word I will use to describe him) taxi driver kept calling his dispatcher and then turning around and asking me if we are going the right way. I ended up cussing him....saying, how the hell would I know? I've never been here before.

Shouldn't taxi drivers know where they are going?

It took us over an hour to get there. Got a different guy on the way back.....30 minutes. Go figure!

Ok, what's up with the cardinal fans, we were at hollywood studios and I hear this disney employee say oh I guess you guys are from st. louis. I turn around and the whole family had on st louis cardinal jerseys...even the baby...

Was that his first time, Jengles?

That is the first thing I took Andre 2 years ago....Six Flags. He was amazed and loved them all. We had to keep going back in line. I said, we can come back again, you know. We don't have to hit them all in one day like this is the last time ever. Last year, we hit the water park side. I think he liked it even better. I let him and the kids run.....I enjoyed some peace and quiet in the sun.

yes that was his first time, we fortunaly or unfortunaly (sp) according to him, didn't go on the mt everest one in the animal kingdom park, dumb me thought the big mountain in the distance was just part of the scenery, nope biggest roller coaster in all of disney, according to my uncle who lives in orlando, at least five people have died on the coaster due to pre-existing heart conditions...the coaster is that scary..all like dat, i can gladly take a pass...

I thought he would be hesitant to go on them, but nope...we spent a day at a water park and he hit all the steep slides... they have a water slide so high up..u have to take a ski lift to get to it.

Minfey, Sunny.

I remember when JPII came to St. Louis. That was crazy. Good luck getting around town today.

Anyone heard from Rhonda lately?

I'm wondering what happened to LaPrincesa and the interview too. Kimmy, did you know her?
