Mawnin Lawny;

What you up to girl? I just booked a trip to JA (Sunset Jamaica Grande) for June for some family and friends. They had a trip for 5 days for $686 per person, so Ray's going to stay there with me and doesn't even know it. I'm going to surprise him if I can keep my big mouth shut that long. lol

My Meez is at the airport a little early, don't you think??? laughing.gif

We booked a trip for November. We're thinking of staying a few days at Sunset JA Grande. Let me know how it is and if it's friendly for locals. You know how some places are!

From the infromation I've received already, it seems as if SJG's a good place for locals and tourists. I did hear about them being strict when it comes to people coming on the property (to the lobby area) that are not guests', but I'll have to see when I get there. I'll let you know.

Girl, they are a TOO damn strict with that. I had to cuss them out in June last year. A friend of mine was getting married and Sandals, so a lot of the guest stayed at Jamaica Grande (most of the guest were Jamaica). I had to tell off the security guard, because we walked into the town and they must of changed shift. He's going to quesition my cousins and I about how long we've been on the property. Now, we all had our wristband on. I asked him if he was damn blind and when he stood in front of us I lost it. I said, you would not treat anyone else like that so step the *&%^ off. He wanted to know when whe checked in and that he had not seen us on the property. Main reason I hate staying at resorts, I think they treat the JAMAICANS differently. At the Riu, I purchased day passes for my cousins and the guard wanted them to stay at the gate then walk up. Now, the walk from the gate to the front desk is a long A$$ walk. I said abosolutely NOT! I told them to call the front desk. Why the hell would I try to sneak people into the property, which was what the guard implied. I was so damn upset. When he checked his log, he had my cousin's names there.

I love Jamaica Grande, because everything is right there. Ochi can be a little crazy at times and I'm sure ya'll already know. Hold on to your HANDBAGS...all they have to see is the WRISTBAND and you're an instant target.

That's a shame... They reason don't have to be that strict. When I stayed at Sandcastles in February, Ray bite off our wristbands. I was like omg, what are you doing. He said we don't need people knowing where we stay. It was fine to do at Sandcastles, but probably not at any of the other resorts. I wonder what he'll do when we stay at SJG together in June...

i loved sandcastles when we stayed there!!! it is such a cute little hotel and was so close to everything that we didn't need to take a taxi we could just walk!! when i go to JA again i would stay there i really liked it better then the bigger resorts!!

I'm iffy about sandcastles, we stayed there, Pluses - they had a good resident rate and you get a whole apartment , plus u can do an all inclusive if u choose, food there was good, minuses - homegirl at the desk had an issue with mr jengles checking in, telling him ok, u bought her luggage up u can leave now, when she realized he was my husband my girl put us in an apartment with no hot water...and then didn't bother to tell us anything, where the pool was, the fact that breakfast was included in our package, just being a b!tch...of course being me, i complained we got moved and got upgraded on our plan...some locals actually live there, so i think they are a bit friendlier to locals than some places....only major drawback, pool could be a lot bigger and would prefer if the beach was actually on property instead of across the road...and it's not like mi like to swim but most time i like to pose.

Jamaica Grand - love it, of course mr jengles know most of the guys and they were happy to see him and his wife...one security guard did try to give him a hard time...but i just waved the band and kept walking

Honestly, I don't think it's gotten better yet. There is always another form to fill out and another frustrating day to deal with where if you hear the word immigration or green card one more time, you are going to scream. Today, the word of the day is "passport".

I have learned that it hasn't killed me yet, Gill, and that I am a whole lot stronger and smarter then I ever thought I was.

You can do this. Stay strong and take lots of deep breaths!

I like that...the word of the day.

Mindy is having a hell of a time with renewing Roy's passport. They have sent 2 different sets of pictures in via NY consulate and both have been returned from JA as not the right pictures......Walgreens & Wal-Mart. The word is they have to go to The Picture People and have them make high resolution pictures. Something about JA and the high rate of fraud.

Anyhow, to hear her tell it, is giving me a headache today. She's been trying to renew for the last 2 months.

We need to renew Andre's by the end of the year. Now, I'm worried.

wow she has to go to the picture people....that is so crazy.....i'm sure my head would be hurting too....

My husbands friend realized his was expired right before his trip to JA, they went anyways and he renewed it while he was there. If push comes to shove for Mindy I'll ask him what happened.

Do you think he could do that without his passport? Her problem now is they are planning an August trip and his passport is in the hands of the Jamaican consulate. I hope they get it by then.

It should take about six weeks. I think the fees include fedex to and from jamaica

Then, ONE week before I was due back, they moved me to 1st shift INDEFINATELY mad.gif because one of our suppliers is on strike and a bunch of people are laid off. Now I'm still on 1st shift, and no one can give me any info when I'll be going to 2nd. All my plans and arrangements for day care are for 2nd shift. So, Tony has been home with Monique but he's losing his mind and has to go back to work. Plus, we're broke! We need that extra income. So, I don't know what to do. I desperately want to find a new job but I can't find one that pays anything close to this one (that I'm actually qualified for!)

Lawny I know you didn't direct it at me but let me just say this...there is a whole lot of sh!t that goes on behind the scenes. A TON to be more precise - if you have noticed there has been a lot of people leaving the thread - this is precisely why. I wouldn't have a problem giving out personal details and sharing my life if I knew that people on here were genuine and truly my friends. To hear about the stuff that is being said about you and your relationship behind your back by your so called "yardie family" well it gets old and it's sad and immature. I guess I am just sick of giving fodder to those that like to call, email or PM others to mock, ridicule or demean me and others and what we choose to share. So I am choosing not to share anymore - as have many others. Those that are truly my friends keep in contact with me by other means and know what is going on in my life, it is as simple as that. Karma is a b!tch and to those people that don't think word is out that you are full of sh!t...well sorry but the jig is up. No need to name names...we all know who you are.

Yeah I notice that some people don't share but like to ask questions and poke, i try and keep those people at arms length. I just want to learn and poke fun and Kimmy and Lawny (because they can take my jokes). I feel if i can help someone that will help mi prosper.

lunch is calling me. Lawny yuh home and have a stomache ache and all?? but lunch finish yet??

Honestly, I don't think it's gotten better yet. There is always another form to fill out and another frustrating day to deal with where if you hear the word immigration or green card one more time, you are going to scream. Today, the word of the day is "passport".

I have learned that it hasn't killed me yet, Gill, and that I am a whole lot stronger and smarter then I ever thought I was.

You can do this. Stay strong and take lots of deep breaths!

I like that...the word of the day.

Good Morning Everyone!!

Lawny, where u at?? Feeling better??

Mi dehyah...my mom best friend of 46 years died. She went to the hospital complaining of a head ache and she coded and was placed on a ventilator. Nothing was wrong with her. Not a thing. I spoke to her for the last 3 days, becuase I was putting a trip together for her and some of her friends. JENGS I know you've warned me about STRESS and I'm telling you my mom and I think that she was so stressed out that her body couldn't take the emotional load anymore. We picked up her family at the airport and we all stood there when they turned off the machine.

Let me tell you...when this woman would pray (she's part of my mom's prayer circle) which they've had for 15 years. When she prays, IT CAN MOVE MOUNTAIN. If her words don't move you, it will make you jump up to your feet. I use to joke with her and tell her we didn't want her to bless the food becaue we would all starve to death by the time she finish her prayer. You could feel the STRENGTH in her words when she would say a prayer.

You know sometimes it just better to let things go, even though it may hurt like hell, we can't solve all problems and not everything can be worked out. My heart goes out to her family and your mother.

Thanks girl. And I agree. I took me years to learn to let things go. As my grandmother would say, Let go and Let God.

true dat, but sometimes we tink God is taking too long and he needs a little help.

I had an old car that now I almost wished I saved, but i can take the train to work, but i know that others live in areas where there is no train. The train!!!! I had to buy a map. lol

Ok I will try and start..maybe someone can make a list and no it won't be me. and let's try and keep it general. I know that some of us are posting off of our experiences but mi really don't like it when people post their opnions or what they do in their relationships and it ends up in a defending contest. Everybody is different and can learn from each other.

anyhoo

It's seems to be really hard when they are left at home alone. Most of these men worked and the jamaican culture seems to be an outdoorsy one. People work, hang out and go home (someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) now I don't mean hang out at the rum shop or the dancehall, but there seems to be a lot of social interaction. Then they come here. We go to work and they are at home in a place where they may not have any friends, no job and familyand nothing to do.

It depends how your man adapts. Is here very social? My husband is very social and I swear has more friends in this town than I do. This is my home town. I think the first couple months are the hardest. It was easier for us because in a few months he was in school and working. I think the K-1 visa has to be hard when finding a job. If we went for the K-1 he wouldn't of been able to go to school right away with a green card. The best part is that we live in a college town which is very social. We had talked about this before he got up but nothing can prepare you for the adjustment until he or she gets here.

whoops wouldn't of been able to go to school right away without a green card.

This is very true Jax. The MAIN reason for us doing the CR1 was so that he could start school and work as soon as he got here if he wanted. I felt that the CR1 transition was much better than the others. Like my husband is already looking into schools and jobs while he is in JA. I would think that this is how I would like to do it if i moved to a new country.

One of the biggest problems I notice is that the nonUSC didn't put a plan into place BEFORE they moved here. I told my husband...."you know where you will be living research or tell me to research things you want to get into NOW so that when you get here its all set up for you".....Now I know he's not here yet but I notice how involved Evan is with my life and my neighborhood and town before he even gets here. I think this is making him feel more acquainted with the area too so that its not so much of a cluture shock plus overwhelment when he arrives. When I first me him I gave him a travel book of Los Angeles. This way he could read up about the area and all the things to do...HE LOVED IT!! Its like my JA travel book that I loved. I really think early preparation is KEY! good.gif

This is true, have a couple of different career paths to explore and try and find out about any programs as early as possible.
