Same price.. Passport fee+ expedite fee

Only catch is you have to have proof of travel within 14 days and an appointment

http://travel.state....s/fees_837.html

Oh gotcha. Thanks!

I guess I'll just wait till I'm in that 14day time frame and then apply.

IMHO consider going from straight to the passport agency from the ceremony and be done with it.

On another subject, check with your HR manager if you actually need to take time off for the ceremony.  Some companies will allow you to take the time for these events without clocking them as 'time off'.

On a more important note: Congratulations!

Yea that looks like my only option as of now. But I won't be able to expedite it because I won't be travelling within 14days from June 12th, its more like 23 days.

Thanks for the time off info, will look into it.

And THANK YOU!!!

If I were you, I would apply at the New York Passport Agency.  You must be travelling within two weeks, so you can wait till then.

By expediting the processing, you'll get it sooner than if you applied under normal processing (like at the oath ceremony, or US post office).

My wife picked up her passport after 2 business days.  We expedited hers.

Hope this helps you some.  Congratulations to you on your oath ceremony!  Safe travels!

I won't be able to take the time off to apply there. I work in brooklyn and it takes a while to get there. Plus it is closed when I get off work.

So I recently started a new job (this week), and my oath is on the 12th of June (I am going into work late that day), they allowed me to take vacation for 2 weeks next month(was planned way in advanced). Long story short I do not want to ask for any more time off to apply for my passport because I work during the hrs of operation of the passport office, so I cant apply for it after work, neither can I apply for it during my lunch break because it takes a while to get there.

So my question is should I apply for my passport at my oath, and if I do will I get it back on time? I am travelling on July 8th.

Congrats, Triniiphone!

Cadman Plz is for Brooklyn residents, right? Does anyone know the timeline for Manhattan? It's hard to tell from timelines in individual threads, because people usually don't specify the borough, and it seems there are some differences across the city.

Thanks otta.

There is a member on here who filed from Manhattan in Jan and has been waiting for an interview letter since.

It seems like mine may be completed in just under 3months.

Hi all, Im not a January filer, im a March filer but I have a quick question for those who had their oath ceromony already.

My online status states

"On May 8, 2013, we placed your application in the oath scheduling que. We will send a notice when the ceremony is scheduled. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283."

Question is, will my status be updated when they send the oath letter to me or will my status stays that way and even if they sent the oath letter?

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 January 2013 Filers

Wow, that is unusual. Were they all applying from Brooklyn, or also other boroughs? I don't know what age could have to do with it... Maybe younger applicants tend to have quicker / easier background checks? I.e. fewer address changes, job changes, and in general less of a "background" to check? Even though I'm in my mid-20s, I had to add a full extra sheet listing employment and education in the last 5 years, including abroad, so if USCIS needs to look into everything in detail, that probably won't help with timing.

Off topic, but one of the things that actually amazed me about the N400 form is that they give you 5 rows to list jobs & education in the past 5 years, but 8 rows for children! I'm sure some applicants have large families, but I suspect more people need extra space for work/education history (especially in this economy) than for offspring :-)

Yep they both applied from BK.

And the back ground check could be true for younger applicants...but who knows.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 January 2013 Filers

I'm curious if different boroughs somehow have separate lines for processing / interviews... I've definitely been checking progress reports from various threads to see how fellow New Yorkers are doing, since it seems that the process here takes longer than most other places. I just filed today (Manhattan) and am bracing for 7-8 months, although now I'm secretly hoping to hear back as quickly as you did :-) Good luck!

It seems to me (or maybe that this just a coincidence) that applicants who are young (under 25) their applications seem to be processed much faster than others. I say this because both my cousins who are between 21-25, had their applications processed in 3 months (both from nyc). Now it looks like mine will do the same (fingers crossed) and im under 25 as well.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 January 2013 Filers

First of all: WOW! Same City, two boroughs and such a difference in processing speed.

The fingerprint location is at Varick, the interview location is at 26 Federal Plaza. That means that Brooklyn and Manhattan are sharing this location for interviewing and Queens & Long Island are separate.

Well, congratulations and good luck for May 7th!

Thank you.

And yep it's crazy how you filed in Jan and you're still waiting for an interview date when i filed some two months after you and already landed an interview date.
TriniiphoneNot TellingTrinidad and Tobago2013-04-05 13:46:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 January 2013 Filers

Thanks for clarifying this. I had no idea that there is actually a separate local office in Brooklyn. I thought that everybody from NYC has to go to the Manhattan office on Varick Street.

I received my interview letter and it's at 26 Federal Plaza, maybe there are more than one offices in NYC?

Anyway, I can't believe I sent in my app on March 1st and I already have an interview for May 7th. If I'm lucky I may have my oath at the end of May.

Which would mean the whole process took only 3 months :)
TriniiphoneNot TellingTrinidad and Tobago2013-04-05 13:05:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 January 2013 Filers

There is no USCIS office in Brooklyn. There are 3 that cover NYC and its suburbs. Manhattan, Queens and Long Island.

The one in Manhattan is the busiest. Even my application is stuck in the in line interview status.

I went to the USCIS office in Brooklyn to have my finger print done. Isn't that considered a USCIS office? Or are you talking about the office where one goes for their interview?

If you are talking about the latter, then you are correct cuz I just got my letter and my interview is scheduled for may 7th at the Jacob k jarvis federal building in the city.

Thanks for checking. Interesting, mine was updated on February 28th and said 90 days. If you get lucky, your application might be approved before mine and you filed 2 months later than me. As I said before, there are always exceptions to the rule. I cross my fingers for you that your application will proceed as quickly as it started! GO, New York, GO!

Hey drama queen,

Mine said the same thing yours said from mar 29th - apr 2nd
And then it changed to what I posted above on the evening of apr 2nd.

And my office is actually Brooklyn not nyc sorry for the confusion.

And I'm sure yours will be processed soon. :) hang in there.

I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones.

"I actually think my is moving rather fast. I sent in my app march 1st and Im already scheduled for an interview"

I'm just curious here: Did your online status really say that you should receive the letter within 30 DAYS? As I mentioned to you before, we have the same field office and my update says that I should expect the letter within 90 DAYS. That is really interesting. Either the timeline depends on each application individually or New York sped up quiet a bit since January. Please keep me posted. GOOD LUCK!

this is what my status says

"On April 2, 2013, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was scheduled for interview. You will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview. If you have not received the notice within 30 days of the date the notice is mailed, please call customer service at 1-800-375-5283 for further assistance. If you move, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address"

Hi Triniiphone: The answer to your question depends very much on your local office. I see that yours is in New York City, just like mine. My online status changed on February 28th and I haven't received anything in the past 5 weeks. Processing times in NY and other large cities (like LA) are usually longer than in smaller ones (like i.e. Palm Beach: there is someone in this forum whose timeline is shorter than 3 months from application to oath). However, an applicant from Brooklyn in this forum filed in January as well and has his/her interview in a week from now. That said, processing times are longer than the national average in NYC but there are certainly exceptions to the rule. There is a price one has to pay for living in the greatest City of the World!:P

I actually think my is moving rather fast.

I sent in my app march 1st and Im already scheduled for an interview

Hi guys, I have a questtion.

I know this is not the thread for March filers but I figured someone in this thread could answer this.

My application online just changed and it now states that I have been scheduled for an interview and should be receiving the notice in the mail within 30 days. How long did you guys have to wait from the time your status changed to the time you received the letter?

Hi guys,

Did you carry passport photos to the interview? If you did, did the IO ask for them?  I see that the "interview Document Checklist" says that they are not required but recommended. I have my interview tomorrow, and I just realized that I forgot about the photos. I'm thinking about going to get them in a couple hours. But I wasn't sure if I should. What was your experience?

Actually, there is a Walgreens close by, so I am just going to get them. I'm thinking they are for in case the original photos submitted with the application were invalid. So it makes sense to carry them.

Is it possible for someone to give us a play by play of the status changes we will see on CEAC as folks wait on the issuance of their visa.
I.e.
1. Visa status will change from 'Immigrant Visa Application - Ready' to 'Non-Immigrant Visa Application- Ready'
2. .....
3. .......
4. ........
5. Visa now says issued, approximately 2-3 days before DHL waybill # is issued.

Thanks in advance.

Side note: I think they're moving quickly now becauseto the end of the fiscal year is upon us (September 30), maybe this is influencing these quick turn arounds. I pray they keep it up!!

Alright yardies now I need your help on the updates on CEAC

Interview was yesterday 8/28.  After the interview CEAC was updated to a case creation date that said July 7, 2013 and status update of 8-28-13 and had immigrant visa application.  Later in the afternoon the status changed it now says Nonimmigrant visa application with a case creation date of 8-28-13 and status update of 8-28-13.

Is this what generally happens? Is this a good sign?

Clearly I have too much time on my hands as I keep refreshing CEAC LOL.  I am trying to keep patient but I am also so very anxious.

Please let me know if you know anything!!

Just want to report that today my case status said "Issued" so I am expecting to see my passport in a few days!   It a relieve considering they had gone ahead and cancelled my 10-ten visitor at the interview. So its fair to say then that AP in MENA countries has an entirely different meaning from in does in some other embassies including Jamaica?  For what its worth I which they would use another word to describe whatever they do in Jamaica embassy to get our visa ready than to use the word 'administrative processing'.
