US Citizenship General Discussionguys do u have any knowledge on service requests?
Sorry flavaofsummer, it is pretty annoying I know, we're all pretty frustrated. I think it would be a lot less irritating if the USCIS would post realistic processing times, then we would have a better idea of what to expect but that won't happen because in their mass confusion there are random approvals from July 2007 to February 2008 (that's from other sites I've looked at - people from February were receiving interviews).

I guess we just have to wait patiently. It could be worse, we could be waiting for an approval indefinitely separated from our spouses right?

While we're with our loved ones we can't complain too much - as disorganized and confusing as the USCIS are, we are at their mercy!

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhich serice centre?
Hello you
I see you've joined the ranks of the rest of us waiters! What a wait it is too.

To answer your question, it's your district office, the one where you go for interviews etc. Mine would be New York NYC office. The processing dates still haven't changed from last month either - sooo tired of waiting!

Anywho, give me a call sometime this week if you get a minute, maybe we can meet up, I'm going back to work next week so it may be a bit harder then.

Speak soon

US Citizenship General DiscussionUSCIS update on processing times
Did you all have a look at the updated processing dates? NYC is now apparently on August 3, 2007. Looks like we haven't moved very far along in a month - that's if you believe the processing dates.

They also put the processing dates as reported on August 15th, somehow they only managed to post that onto the site 14 days later???

C'mon USCIS, you're not leading us to believe you're working very hard over there!

I know I'll get some people on here telling me that they're "working very hard" but I must say it's a little hard to believe when they're moving so slowly that they can't even be bothered to update us...even if it is bad news!

US Citizenship General DiscussionVSC New York District N-400 Interview letter received
Hey ShallowShrek
lucky enough I filed my N-400 before October 1, 2008 and my interview is before October 1, 2009 so this means I get to choose either the old or the new test.

I'm sticking with the old test, some of the new test questions are too tricky for me. My memory is not that great, plus, like I'd said, I'm a horrible test taker - I'll probably be so nervous that even an easy question will leave me baffled!

I didn't think that there were that many differences between the two tests but I must say, having just had another read through the new questions, you're right...it is haaaaaaaard!

US Citizenship General DiscussionVSC New York District N-400 Interview letter received
Hi david71
good luck to you and your wife for the interview, let me know how it goes. I think I'll do the old test too, not that I see much difference between them, unless I'm missing something. How is your wife finding understanding the different parts of the government? I'm confused! I'm really having trouble understanding who the CABINET, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, ELECTORAL COLLEGE (how is it they decide on who the president should be?) etc actually are.

I know I just have to learn the Q & A's but having an understanding would help me cement that stuff in my mind.

US Citizenship General DiscussionVSC New York District N-400 Interview letter received
Just got my interview letter today and the interview is actually somewhere in Long Island not in the Manhattan building. I submitted everything January 3rd and my interview is set for October 21st.

Not bad timing at all, I was only expecting to hear about an interview early next year. Good luck to everyone else, I hope your letters come through soon.

For now, I really hope I can memorize the history questions and answers, I am one of the worst test takers EVER! I get nervous and go blank ClockWatch2.gif

US Citizenship General DiscussionInterview experience (a little delayed)
I've updated my timeline on vj so you can compare.

My interview was October 21, at 11am in Garden City, Long Island. It was a bit of a drive but luckily traffic in that direction isn't bad in the mornings, it was pretty easy to find too and not at all busy.

I arrived at 10:50am and went through security, they didn't ask to see any information to let me in, they then told me to go into a huge room on the left and go up to one of the windows in the front (I think it was window 6 but it has a sign to say sign in here). The lady at the window asked for my letter with the interview date and my identification, she stamped the letter and told me to go upstairs to the left. At the top of the stairs a security guard asked me for my letter which he took and put into a basket next to him and told me to go into the waiting room on the left.

There were a lot of people waiting and in talking to some of the people there I found out that some had interviews set for 9:00am but were still there at 11. While waiting we watched a lady clear the basket of interview letters and go into a room I assume to do our preliminary paperwork. The immigration officers all seemed to go into that room to presumably collect the interview letters of those they would interview and take them back to their offices along with the corresponding files. The files of all the people with interviews were stacked up behind that room - I saw those later when I was called in for my interview.

I was called in at 12:30 by my IO. He asked me to take a seat, to swear that any information I was to provide them with was in fact truthful. He then quietly looked through my file, typed into the computer my file number to bring up my information. He then printed out two pieces of paper with the test on it, he gave me one piece of paper and told me to write two sentences in the boxes provided. The sentences were:
1. She drives a blue car to work.
2. .............................................so nervous I forgot the second sentence.
I wrote them both correctly and he started to ask me the 10 questions. The only one I remember was the one I nearly got wrong:
For how long is a Senators term? I started to answer then stopped and gave the correct answer, he smiled as if he knew I was correcting myself. He marked that I had answered all 10 correctly (I was surprised he asked me 10 questions, I thought he'd stop at 6 correct answers).

The IO then looked through my file again and said, I don't need to see anything from you, sign here and here. He waited a moment then printed a letter to say I had passed the test, he circled the box to say I don't have to wait and I could leave and wait for a letter in the mail that would tell me when my oath was and that the letter should take two weeks to arrive and that the Oath would likely be two weeks from then.

I left and was in the car again by 12:45 after talking to someone outside for a couple of minutes, we were in the waiting room together and she was interviewed just before me but was apparently sent back outside to wait to be called again at 1pm. She was doing her citizenship exactly the same way I was - she'd done the fiance visa etc.

It looked like it didn't really matter what time your interview time was, there were people still waiting from 9am when I left. Perhaps they had different circumstances?? Not sure.

My oath letter arrived October 23 and my oath was set for Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn for November 18.

Thanks to all for your help and good luck to those waiting, it's almost over. kicking.gif

hi everyone.
I've not been on for a while so I'm just reading posts now. Thank you for making me feel better, I've been visiting with my parents stewing over this for ages now so I was glad to get home to my computer and see that it's not a big deal. Well, I guess now I just wait and see.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionFiled for removal but left out my passport photos!!
Hi everyone
I mailed in my packet on September 9 and have yet to receive anything from VSC - I believe it takes 2-3 weeks to get something from them. I mailed in the I-765 packet but forgot to add my passport photos.

Any ideas what I should do, should I mail them in as an addition and hope they put them together with my packet or should I sit tight waiting for them to tell me I've left it out?

Would they send back the whole packet or just request the missing pieces?

I'm so annoyed with myself, that was such a silly thing to do - baby brain hasn't fixed itself yet.

Thanks for any replies, any help is appreciated.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNOA received should I now send passport photos?
Hi all
I just received my first NOA for my I-751 application, I had originally mailed off my application without passport photos.

I have NOT received an RFE for this but just the regular NOA that states if you have not already done so please mail with a copy of the NOA any additional information so my question is:

do I mail my passport photos now with a copy of this NOA or should I wait for an RFE?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi hi Tata
I'm good, how are you doing? I'll call you (if I still have the right number).

So I got today a weird blue letter from USCIS with a check attached saying that this is not needed at this time, it has a receipt number but no NOA...I'm confused

I think it might be the standard RFE letter because it says to send the information listed on this form but there is no list, just an attached check. The postmark says Friday so hopefully soon I'll see something more.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBiometrics Appointment Brooklyn (NYC)
Hi everyone
so, I had my biometric appointment today at 10am in the Brooklyn Center and surprisingly it was quite painless.

I arrived early (having heard about lengthy lines to get into the building) but security would not allow anyone into the building earlier than their appointment time. The office opens at 8am, I got there about 9:15am and waited with about 15-20 other people.

At about 9:40am security started letting in those with 10am appointments. They check your appointment letter and ID at the door then give you a simple form to fill in (the same one from the first time I went). Once the form is complete, security look it over then send you to another line where someone checks and stamps your form and letter, gives you a number and sends you to sit in the first waiting room for your number to be called.

They call between 5 and 10 numbers at a time, you have to line up, show your numbers and be sent to another waiting area where you wait to be called by the person who takes your prints and photo. After prints and photo are done, you sign on the machine and your appointment letter is signed and that's that!

It was really very fast, the whole place was much more organized than I remember it and the employees were so polite and efficient.

Thought I'd just share with anyone who might be going to the same Center. My appointment was for 10am, I was let into the building at 9:40am and I walked out the door at 10:23am.

Good luck everyone else.

Has anyone had their biometrics taken in Brooklyn recently? The last time I went (2 years ago) I waited about 2.5 hours to be seen and it took less than 10 minutes for it to be done.

Is the wait really bad still? I have to go with my baby and I just want to know exactly what we're in for tomorrow.

A friend of mine went last year and said that by the time she arrived for her scheduled morning appointment the line was 3 blocks long!!!

Thank you in advance.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionLeasons Learned (I-751)
Lesson learned:

it's wise to include passport photos, after all they did ask for them

I left mine out of my package but waited until I'd received my NOA then sent them on with a photocopy of the NOA and a very short note reading
"this is an addition to my I-751 application"
I also wrote on the envelope my A# and that this is additional info for my I-751 application. Surprisingly it was attached to my file and all was well - great job!

United KingdomWhy did we choose....?
I have been to Greece 3 times now. My fourth time is coming up in 2 weeks. I have met his family and lived with him for one month. We decided to have my fiance do the move and try it here in the U.S., meet my family and learn about my culture. We made a promise that when he gets here to give it a year, if he absolutely hates it, then we will move back to Greece together.
It wasn't a difficult decision to make. Just an honest conversation and knowing that we both want to be together that no matter where it is, we are together.

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is ####### with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You might succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.

So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse, that you must not quit.

I am reading this and ready to cry... perfect for this couple going through this turn of events. And also perfect for all of us reading this.

You are in my prayers that the fingerprints go through with flying colors and you are both on the plane together with the weight off your shoulders.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresrfe divorce certificates

hi well we finally got the rfe letter today,it was about our divorces, they want my husband to copy his entire divorce documents. and on one of mine they can't figure out the dates. one is the date the divorce was final the other date is the date i paid to get certificate. totally unreal. and here i wrote out 8 g325's thinking that they wanted all four copies. guess they only needed the 1 or 2 we sent. so now i just have to write a note explaining them. totally frustrating at this point. has anyone else been asked for info like this? hope this doesn't mean problems down the line. :(

We are doing the K-1 Visa and we are both divorced. I submitted my final divorce decree and submitted my fiances in Greek and the English Translation. We got an RFE because his wasn't the final decree. So now we have to submit his 2 divorce decrees. One from the Greek Orthodox church and one from the court and have them both translated into English. Ugh! But it has to be done.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNeed help on what to give Fiance to prepare for approval
I have made a copies of the entire K-1 package that was sent to give to my Fiance once we are approved and he will go to the interview.

Who gets the 134 or 184 document? Me, the USC or my fiance? Or do I get this form on line?

I will also sign and have him sign new letters of intent.

I will give him paystubs, my 401K statement, a letter from my employer, a letter from my bank.

What does the letter from the bank say?

What gets notarized? All of these documents or just the letter of support?

I will give him cell phone bills, airline receipts and my tax returns.

Am I missing anything?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnal Overboard!!!!!

Bunnyqr

Not meaning to burst your bubble in any way, but was there a date on the RFE by which you had to have any documentation etc to them by?? Reason - Generally an RFE must be complied to by a certain date otherwise a petition can be denied.

Wenchie, she got an extension on the RFE (!).

Bunny, if I may respectfully give some input (and first, and aside. Back in my day, there were a bunch of us at the other group who called ourselves the "AR CLUB" where AR = ####### Rententive---it *is* heaven for us types!).. yeah, the input.

The interview itself goes very quickly. In typical Greek fashion, the questions come fast, loud and with a crabby look on the face. Papers should be VERY easy to put hands on---I found that the things I put in plastic sleeves were a problem because of the time to get them OUT of the sleeve to hand over. The interview windows are like a high security bank window---there is a very narrow slot at the bottom to pass your papers through. There is general bedlam in that room, a lot of noise, and it's hard to hear the COs, plus you're sort of nervous at the time. I also had the heartbreaking experience of watching every tab, color coded sticky and paperclip stripped off of my submission in front of my face---and saw them thrown in the trash.
My best investment was an acordian folder--lots of separated poskets, but very easy to get your hand into to grab what you want. Docs also have to be presented in a specific order, and wouldn't you know, it was NOT the order of the list I was given ahead of time, so too much preparation was my undoing.

Sorry if it sounds killjoy; you already know I wish the best for you in Athens and can't wait for your good news. :)

No, No, No not Killjoy at all!! Thank you for letting me know this!! I actually have an accordian folder as well. Quick question, when do they tell my fiance to have things in their specific order? In the interview letter?
He doesn't read English well, so should I go over with him what each document is when I am there and he can lable the tab in Greek??

Someone just got married, I hear all the horns beeping outside my apartment. Is this a good omen???

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnal Overboard!!!!!
One week left and I am off to Athens, Yipppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
I went to Staples the other day and bought a nice binder and separator insert to put documents into and labels on the side of each separator.
I will be putting in our entire K1 visa application and required documents that were sent in March.
I will be putting in copies of my flight receipts, copies of my cell phone bills, copies of emails and our engagement announcement on theknot.com
All of this will be handed over to my fiance. I will be talking to his sister next week and asking her to help him when we are approved and he gets the check list in the mail Package 3. She is a school teacher and very organized and since I know my fiances track record of NOT being organized, she is ideal for keeping him on task.
I have already emailed my boss to provide me with a letter about my employment.
I went to my bank and they said they charge $25 to do the letter of proof of my accounts but they said at Citibank if you call the customer service number they will send it with no charge. Cool!
Also, when I get to Athens I am getting the remaining documents for our RFE and sending them from Athens to the Vermont office via courier. Making a set of copies for me and leaving a set of copies for him in his lovely new organized binder. With pretty color tabs, haha!
I can't wait to get my fingers on these documents!!!! I have been waiting since our RFE notice in late April for these documents. 5 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First I think I will kiss them, then I think I will dance around his home singing and chanting while I hold them up in the air. Then, off they will go to Vermont.
Like I said, ####### OVERBOARD here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just talked to my father and told him all that will need to be done after the APPROVAL NOA2 and he is blown away from all of this. I said, "Dad, I have never had to fight so hard for something or someone like this before in my life" and my dad said "And it will all be worth it".

God Bless everyone on this journey we all are on.
