Quick primer: The I-693A is the USCIS Vaccination Supplement. Take a look at the pinned thread in the K-1 forum for the lowdown on why you need this and how to get it.

You can use the "Civil Surgeon Locator" on the USCIS website to find a civil surgeon near you.

These more general questions will probably best be answered in the AOS forum. ;)

It depends, weeb. First of all, it's very VERY unlikely your AOS will be approved within 90 days. I guess it's theoretically possible, but even a "short" AOS process is usually more like 4-6 months. Some VJers wait 9 months, a year, or longer before they see a green card.

So about Advance Parole...what AP gives your sweetie is the chance to re-enter the country, should he choose to leave, after a brief absence, before your AOS is complete but after his K-1 is expired. And whether he files for it is entirely up to him. If he has no plans to travel back to the UK before AOS is complete (allowing for the fact that you have no idea how long it might take), and there's nothing that might theoretically require him to travel back on an emergency basis, then you could choose to go without filing for it. But if he's wanting, say, to spend the holidays with his family in the UK, or if he wants the security of knowing that he could go back to the UK on a moment's notice without jeopardizing his ability to re-enter the country, then he should file for it.

I'm kind of glad that so many of us are on the same page.

I feel so powerless right now, basically. I feel like Ewen's doing this huge thing and...well, maybe I'll fuss around a bit putting up some knickknacks and making room for his stuff in the closet and what have you, but it seems so insignificant. And I'm feeling increasingly guilty about the things that I do just for myself, or with my friends and family; I went to church and to my dad's house for a while last night, and I felt so badly because I had to cut mine and Ewen's nightly chat drastically short to do it. Next weekend I'm having a girls' day with some of my very good friends, pub-crawling basically during the St. Patrick's Day parade where I live (it's a tradition), and I want to go to a show at a club in Philly the week before Ewen gets here...and I feel guilty about all of it! I'm trying to tell myself that *now* is the time to do silly things Ewen won't be interested in so that we can spend lots of time together once he's actually here, but I don't want him to feel like I don't feel like attending to his needs *now*. It's a big fat mess. :(

One of us was going to have to do this, I know. If it wasn't him, it would have had to have been me, and based on circumstances with the both of us, it's faster and cheaper (believe it or not) to have him come here. And I still feel guilty. I worry about changes I'll have to make in my own life, and then I remember that any changes I'll have to make are WELL outweighed by the changes he's making... And I don't know how to not feel guilty and stressed-out about it. It's not him; I know it's me driving myself nuts with this.

I wish there was a manual for this, don't you?

Awwww, that's great. I love reunion stories. :)

I'm looking at my calendar now and it's only 47 days until Ewen and I get to have a reunion story. He's worrying himself so much over getting everything ready to move; he's apparently taking a bunch of stuff to his mother's house this weekend and trying to clean up one of his computers to give to her. I'm worried that he's working himself up so much that he's going to get sick and burned out. Not that he shouldn't be worried or shouldn't be getting all his ducks in a row or anything, but...

I just wish there was something I could do. I wish I could afford to take a few days off from work to go over and help him (I can't). And I just worry that he's going to be coming over here and feel completely uncomfortable and un-at home, and I feel so overwhelmed, trying to make that not happen... :(

I'll be so glad when this is over (the separation, that is). I've about had it.

The cards at Viapin are all very good; right now I'm on the Boss LA card, which, provided you can dial domestic long distance for free (I use my cell phone), gives me 1.3 cents/min to the UK. A $10 card gets me something like 13 hours at that rate.

Yes, he's flying into Newark. It's a bit more convenient in terms of luggage; he'll have a lot, and it's far less complicated for me to drive to Newark than it is for me to drive to Kennedy. When he was here last, he flew into Kennedy, but just had one big bag...that's not so bad to take on the train and then the bus.

Fun fact: Usually when I track the packages that I send to Ewen, USPS shows that they ship out of Kennedy to the UK.

I wish we lived closer! :(

Alison...I'm a little bit confused. AP=Advance Parole. Many people file for AP with their AOS package, using form I-131. The result is a permit that you carry with your passport when you travel, after you use your K-1 but before your AOS is complete, which allows you to re-enter the U.S. after you leave for a period of time. It has nothing to do with returning to the UK to live. In fact, if you planned on returning to the UK to live, the AP would be of no use to you.

Don't mean to bug ya, dear, but are you telling me you've come this far in the process and know nothing about AOS/AP? ;)
paxFemaleUnited Kingdom2006-01-30 11:47:00
United KingdomLondon Embassy Graduates Thread
First of all, Tracy is right: As soon as you have AP, which only takes 2 or 3 months to process, you can visit for a few days, a few weeks...whatever you like. Of course, you need to keep tabs on how your AOS is processing and not be out of the country for months on end, but nothing will stop you from making visits.

Second of all, I've worked with special-needs children and I have a cousin who is highly functional but retarded with mild autism...and it is even more important to be honest and clear with your daughter because of her special needs. You need to put it across in a way that she will understand, but my experience with my cousin is that he needs to be prepared carefully and thoroughly for any disruptions in his usual routine, and you cannot promise things to him that you don't intend to deliver. Your ex's intentions were noble, I'm sure, but you and he need to decide on how to tell your daughter the truth.

:: hugs ::

Alison, you have got to tell your daughter the truth! How is she going to feel when you're not back "in a few weeks" and she realizes you lied to her? She is most certainly going to expect to see you back in a few weeks, I would think. :(

You say she's your eldest; how old is she? No matter her age, she needs to prepare herself for the reality that she might not see you for a number of months, and be ready to cope with that. Please talk to her father about how best to level with her. If I were her, I would be absolutely devastated, knowing that my mother lied to me about something so major.

I have another strange question... What happens to your luggage?? If we remember correctly at JFK you go thru the immigration desk and then get your baggage and go thru customs. Is that process any different when coming thru as an immigrant? We were under the impression that Crash and our son will be brought to another room and questioned and thats when he hands over the MBE (mysterious brown envelope). So what happens then?

Thanks as always...

Hi all...

Thought I would pop into this forum since hopefully we will be graduates soon of the London Embassy now that Crash has his interview scheduled for the 2nd of May.

Was wondering if anyone did their POE at JFK or Newark and how those went... We're not sure which airport Crash will be flying into yet. JFK is closer to me but he can get direct flights to Newark from Bristol.

Thanks...

Hi guys and girls crash here

ok so i sent 5 boxes over by fedex i did my best to put their backs out maybe next shipment i will try for a double hernia for the pick up guys hehe i'm bad lol

ok so to send your used personal items across before you go is alot easier than i first imagined you need 2 documents 1 of each must be originals and 1 copy of each for the amount of boxes you send so with my 5 boxes it was 1 set of originals and 5 copies

first form/document is a proforma invoice this is basically a request that customs accept your estimates for cost prices you paid for the items you are sending .... now you are supposed to fill it out and itemise each and every item inside the box and give an estimate of its price

well fedex turned up 10 mins after i finished printing of 1 copy of each so my proforma invoice was various this and various that and i may have neglected to add prices (well i know i did but sounds better if i didn't)lol

the second form/document is cbp(customs and border protection) form 3299
this is the declaration of free entry of unaccompanied articles

this you have to fill out in more detail than the proforma invoice now i got worried when filling this out as it asked for importers date of arrival into the country so i put the date i expect to fly out to go home(home is where the heart is)

i put on the second page prices weyhey more than i did on the proforma invoice lol

basically all my boxes arrived without hindrance and intact if anyone needs these forms and wants to save time in searching for them i have them stored on my pc as pdf's

hope this helps anyone looking to send there personal belonging over before they go

:help: i need a laydown all this posting ive just done :help::wacko:

What where the questions you were asked? and what was some of the other proof of relationship you brought with you/(outisde of what was on the list).

i am just a bit worried because there are no bills or rent coming in our names and i dont want it to seem that it is not a legitimate relationship.

That's my issue too - absolutely NO bills in both our names (and I don't think a magazine subscription counts). We're going to bank this week to add him to account and change my last name on it as well. I hope that will suffice (both our names on bank account). Honestly Papcawn I don't think you have a worry cause you two had Jay and that should be more than enough proof  of a bonafide relationship

Hey everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend

It was hotter than Saudi Arabia so all I did was clean and sweat buckets

Married life is great! I can't remember when I have ever been so happy. We laugh and play together and tangle are body together as we talk about life into the late hours. (L) (L) Rohan is a wonderful man. I know how all the jokes on TV go, the way they joke on and refer to married couples.. but I want my marriage to remain this way and better for ever. Me and Rohan had an argument the other day. It was terrible. I hate arguing. I got upset and did what I was taught in pre marriagecounseling not to do, went to bed upset and slept on the couch (since he went to bed first). He woke me up as the sun was coming up with a bible in his hand, and held my hand, and said "Baby, its been a little while since we had devotion, and the argument was just the enemy". I never want to argue again, but I know disagreements are inevitable.

QUESTION :help: (married)
Do you guys have any strategy when dealing with disagreements, any rules?
How do you make up?
Who normally appologize first or do you both take the wrong?
What do you do when you feel you are heading for an argument to diffuse the situation?
Is it just some Jamaican men or do all seem to be a little hard-headed- meaning when they belive something, no matter how much you prove it is not-so, they still have trouble bending..and how do you cope?

I am just looking to take some sucessful strategies, to add to my own. THANKS

[size=2] I am REALLY hard headed so i never end up apologizing first. which is bad but i am so into whatever i am standing up i cant think of saying sorry. when we argue we both act like we just will never make up again until we get to bed because we try to make up before we go to sleep.
