I'm a day late ! But I got a phone call Friday afternoon for a different job! They want me to come in on Tuesday for an interview! I think I might enjoy this position more if I am offered...less commuting...but less pay...nontraditional work hours but at least I'd work similar hours to the hubby...good chance that the other position I first interviewed for would put me in therapy...

How exciting!! Doors are opening up for you!!

I just spent 3 hours at a hair salon.
Gained highlights, lost half my hair.
It's weird having shorter hair again... feels kinda nice though.

pics, pics, pics!

I have put out about 4 applications so far and so far this is the only call back. But sometimes it takes forever for them to even call!

That's great to even get a call back after 4 applications!! Who knows what may be around the corner for you. How exciting..

I'm still working on my resume. I want to talk to a couple people about being references so that at least I'll have local ones  I mentioned to the manager at Curves today that I'm "legal" just don't have the paper in my hands yet, but they aren't able to hire anyone at this time :( I won't give up though. I have the experience from working there....and the hours will be perfect for me. ( Plus they are closed on the weekends.. )

I went for a cosmetic facial today. I wasn't really looking forward to it... and for a reason. I have NEVER EVER done a single thing to my eyebrows. NEVER. She ended up threading them, oh my god that was so painful. I was almost crying. She even took out my blackheads and whiteheads. That was very very painful too. The rest of it was comfortable though.

I'm not sure if I should keep up with my eyebrows or just let them grow back. I really don't know.

I'm probably the only bride in the world that never had a facial before her wedding  I didn't even wear any makeup. My hair was done by two friends, ( so that was nice and cheap..) And I've NEVER had my eyebrows done.

I had hoped to at least get a manicure done, but ran out of time!

Actually, haven't had one of those done in over 20 years. Never had a facial, pedicure or massage....

Ok..I'll stop crying now..

And if anyone is near the DC area and wants poutine, try Jimmy's Old Tavern in old town Herndon.
Just ask for extra gravy and cheese (they actually use curds). It's sooooo good :D :D

:( Wish I had known that when we were there on our honeymoon....That was in September. But we do plan on going back someday. So much to see!! When Tim came up to see me, we went into this old fashioned British style restaurant in Victoria, and they had poutine on the menu. So of course I ordered it..and they used cheddar cheese!! It was ok, but not what I'm used too. Tim didn't mind it, but then, he's never had good poutine before

I worked for Zellers once, and the poutine there was pretty good! They order the cheese curds from Montreal.

Awwww all these adorable stories made me tearie eyed!!!

David proposed to me long before we got the ring. in fact it was the first week i had went down to chicago to be with him. there was this one night, his roomate finally left us alone at the apartment. cold and dark. we had been talkingg for hours about ourselves and things that happend to each of us. and i just opened up to him and bawled my eyes out and told him about my past etc. and he hugged me started crying and said he would take care of me forever and that he didn't want me to go back to Canada, and he asked if i would marry him. i'll remember that night forever. the lights were off and the moonlight was shining in the room on us as we sat on his bed holding each other and crying.

the next day we went to the county hall and got a marriage certificate. unfortuneately we had planned for a january 10 2009 wedding, but i went back to canada to get my dogs and that's when the "your not allowed into the usa" bs started. we have been separated ever since :( january 2010 now and still not married..which is why i guess i'm emo this month :(

blargh didn't mean to put a damper on this thread..so don't mind me.

awwwww ((((((((((((kimbear)))))))))))) I guess you'd be emotional!! But then you'll have your visa..and you will be able to cross, and be married and be together!! :) I hope it's all quick for you!

awwww such lovely engagement stories.....

Tim wouldn't be able to get down on one knee because of his disability, and I guess he didn't want me to help him, lest I become suspicious... But he started the question off with...

"Would you consider leaving your island?" ( Talking about Vancouver Island, B.C. I lived there all my life ) Course with a question like that......I knew what was coming up... :)

Then he was concerned about holidays...how would they be spent with two different families. Too easy..Thanksgiving in October AND November.. July 1 AND 4th...no problems!!

We were actually in a hotel room at the time... ( not the way he planned to ask me...but conversation just sorta lead up to it that night) And after he walked to the safe..and brought out a very long gift...inside was the most delicate watch I had EVER seen. He then asked if I would be his wife.

Ummmm with that South Carolina accent..I thought he said I WANT you to be my wife..so I hadn't exactly said "yes". I just looked at him, smiled, and kissed him...( wouldn't that sorta tell you what I was saying... ) The next day, we went for a drive to Anna Marie Island and along Long Boat Key.. ( we were in Florida at the time) and we stopped to eat along the beach, and I said.." Oh my gosh!! We need to tell someone!!!" And he said..."Do you want to tell me your answer first, before we do?" Then I found out why he was waiting and I said "Yes, silly!!" We made a call to our friend in California, and I asked her to be one of my bridesmaids, and then started to call his family....We couldn't stop smiling.

Wow.... that was October 15, 2008.... ^_^

The thing is, my wedding ring looks kinda funny on top the engagement ring. How are the two generally worn? The wedding ring first than the engagement ring, or vice versa? Or is it a personal taste thing.

Usually I've always' seen the wedding ring closet to your hand, and then the engagement on top of that...*shrugs* really don't know it that "the" way to wear them or not.. My first marriage, I had both, my second, just the wedding band, and this one...nothing..

Awww. :(

We'd at least had some of her friends put some sushi in the fridge for us for later. It was quite fun, eating sushi (with our fingers!) after midnight in our honeymoon suite while opening all of our wedding presents.

We opened our when we got home. We were gone 3 weeks on a road trip. So our living room was piled with gifts waiting for us. I've STILL yet to find room for some of them...so I have them hidden behind the couch.. How embarrassing, we were marred in Sept....

Oh, it was in Buffalo. It was really a combination of wedding and reception -- the wedding was at 6:00 (precisely!), and the ceremony lasted no more than fifteen minutes. It was in the downstairs portion of the building. So after the ceremony, we walked up the stairs to the reception room and did the assembly line thing. We had sixty or so people there, so it took a little while. Then we went outside and did a bunch of pictures while others were eating. In truth, I didn't really get much to eat that night, even though the reception lasted until 10:00! So many people to talk to... Somehow my wife managed to get food though. She told me afterward how good everything was. :P

I wish we only had 60 people! Then maybe we could've ate! We had somewhere in the neighbourhood of 200!! That was sure hard to plan when I lived 2500 miles away!! We ended up forgetting about a detail or two..

Funny...NO ONE thought to put a care package together for us. There was so much fresh fruit and I didn't get ANY of it.. :(

Haha. It's funny...on MY wedding night, we had the wedding and reception at the same location: The Mansion in Buffalo. We also had a honeymoon suite there for two days. The reception ended at 10:00, and a bunch of the younger folks agreed to meet up at a nearby bar shortly afterward.

I'm curious...where did you get married?? Here in the South...you're lucky to even EAT at the reception. Ours lasted maybe 2 hours. We got there by 4:30 and left...( after the MAJORITY of the guests left) about 6:30- 7:00. We were SO hungry we went through the drive through at Wendy's!! No kidding. Everyone kept coming up to the head table to talk with us...and it was mainly finger food, not a dinner per se. Not at all what I'm accustomed too for receptions...

Hope you get it Slider! Make sure you talk with a supervisor too, just in case. I had problems as well, and we even went to the congressman's office. CanadaDocuments required by Canadian Citizens/Residents/Landed Immigrant to enter the U.S. and how long can they stay?

Yes there is conflicting information online about this Marilyn.

As above, or from the "Get you Home" page, which is also CBP

Lawful Permanent Residents of the United States: Document requirements for Lawful Permanent Residents are not changed under WHTI. Lawful Permanent Residents are required to present their permanent resident card (Form I-551) or other valid evidence of permanent residence status. A passport is not required for entry into the United States.

http://www.getyouhom...can/can_sa.html

That's good to know. If I did decide to renew my passport when I go home in October, I should still be able to get back in. I'll talk to the staff at the Federal office in my hometown, to see the best action.

CanadaWeight loss support

I weighed in at 154.6 pounds this morning.

Jan 1 - 160 pounds
Feb 18 - 154.6

Yes I know it is slow, but I do have to say that I have gained a lot of muscle so I am proud of myself. Been eating the clean way promoted by Tosca Reno. I love it and get to eat tons. I can't afford to buy all the ingredients she suggests because a lot of them are unusual but I still make it acceptable to the eat clean program. Does anyone else use her nutrition advice?

That's fantastic!! Actually your weight loss is a healthy one. I worked at Curves and learned lots on weight loss management. I learned that on average, we only gain 1/2 pound a month. ( that's normal weight gain...lol) So if someone loses 1-2 pounds a month..you're well ahead of the game!!

You can do it!!

Happy Canada Day everyone, we had a little mini party to celebrate. I made nanaimo bars, poutine, butter tarts and the kids wanted me to make pies banana cream and coconut cream. We had sparklers and a few little other thingy's that whistle and shout sparks out too.

ummm...I'm sure someone has answered this somewhere before...but what kind of cheese do you use for poutine? I'd love to make some. I'm sure I could muddle through.

I haven't done the butter tarts thing yet, I probably will for American Thanksgiving, (we'll be away for the Canadian one)but the Nanaimo Bars are always a hit around here!

*Funny how I never thought to make any for our BBQ tonight....*

CanadaHappy Canada Day!!!

Perhaps a day at the "shore" to celebrate July 4th will help.

Oh yes!! I grew up on Vancouver Island, so I was surround by beaches almost where ever I looked! *And mountains* I now live 100 miles inland..no beach, no mountains :( I take it you're kinda the same way?

We're going to Myrtle Beach on the 4th, so I think that will help. Tim says there are LOTS of fireworks that day. This Sunday also marks the 6th year since my late husband died, (it was on Sunday back then too) so being at the beach with Tim is going to be a BIG help in getting me through that day.

Enjoy your time on the 4th.

CanadaHow to return paid GST to CRA

A week or so after I moved I called CRA to inform them of the move. They confirmed I would no longer be eligible for GST and noted the file. Then a month later they sent the check to my US address. So I called again, and gave them the same information, again, and was told to send the check back. So what happens a few months later? They send the check again, to my US address. So I call again, send the check back again, and about 2 months later they send me a bill saying I owed them for 2 GST checks I received  They are seriously very poor at communication or something. I called to complain and they apologized and said it was a mistake. Good thing because there was no way I was going to pay that.

Wow Huggles! That's crazy! Just goes to show that not everyone's on the same page, (or connected to the same computer)

I called too before I moved, and the woman said it would all be taken care of....HA! We both agreed that last July's was rightfully mine..(didn't move until August) but October's wouldn't be...but guess what??? I got a deposit. I was really busy to do much about it then, and called CRA quite sometime later for something and mentioned it to him, and he said (apparently reading from something) that it was based on 2008's income...blah, blah, blah...(kinda like what Kimbear stated). Anyway...didn't get anything for January or April, so they caught up there. I guess I'll just see what happens, after all.... I DID tell them...

CanadaMy Canadian Passport Expires in January 2011

I would do it more then a month before it expires though. You don;t want to have an expired passport and have some kind of emergency that you need to get back home for (and yes, you can have an expired passport and still travel)

For renewning - I believe within 6 months of the expiry date is acceptable. Mine expired this coming Dec'10 and I just renewed it last week while I was back home. It won't impact you AOS at all - you're renewing a Cdn document as Krikit notes.

My review of renewing it:
http://www.visajourn..._1#entry4047153

PS - I did it in person at an office on Jul 5 and I received it by Fedex today Jul 14 - my guarantor and my references were called. They were asked questions about how they knew me , what I looked like and my US address.

So glad to have read this, and know how successful it is. I plan to do the same thing this fall. (mine expires in April '11) And I wouldn't know how to have references and guarantor, unless I mailed it back and forth. *Note to self, use people who know me REALLY well*

M613 Congrats on sending of the AOS! I hope all goes well, and quickly for you. Are you hoping to go back to Canada later this year? It's strongly possible you could be getting your GC within a couple months or so. You may want to consider doing the same thing (if possible) and renewing it then.
