He died a few hours ago.

awww Krikit... (F) I'm so sorry....

I just talked to my dad, he said they rented a dune buggy in Florence, Or and drove around in the sand dunes for an hour... it sounds like they are having a blast...

We did that at Pismo Beach in CA. We had a blast! I'd do it again in a second! *I even got to drive the jeep a bit*

so I posted a bunch of pics form our trip on FAcebook...

Beautiful! The East coast certainly has beauty, but I sure do miss the ruggedness of the West coast! We drove down the Oregon Coast 2 years ago.....so pretty....

I've had Canadian KD, or Mac N Cheese as we call it here. It was meh. I prefer the U.S. version, undoubtedly because it is what I am used to. LoL, I don't get the Canadian obsession with ketchup. I dont' like it, so it really doesn't make much difference to me where it comes from.

I used to eat KD with hotdogs cut up in it all the time! Real healthy, eh? Now I prefer to make homemade mac and cheese! Tastes so much better, and I'm one of those Canadians that don't like ketchup, so I don't care where it comes from either! :P

Spoke with the GM of the hotel yesterday and received two free nights compensation. They were very apologetic and very nice about it. I will only give you the name of the hotel if you all come and visit me. lol

Yay! I hope everything goes much better for you now... :)

I'd agree. Now that I've felt a few of them, they make me uneasy but they have all been fairly moderate, and even though a 5.4 sounds big and scary, stuff barely moved. I'd be more terrified of my house being ripped off from over my head by tornado's. Blizzards didn't bother me I just hated having to drive in them, and I think I could live with a hurricane as well depending on where inland I lived.

That was one of my major concerns when I debated about moving! But we're 100 miles inland and Tim says there has been nothing really to worry about here. The last time there was significant damage was from Hugo in '89. (And I believe everyone's house is still standing) It was probably close to a really bad high wind storm that we get on Vancouver Island in the winter. ( A little flooding...maybe a tree falling over....and lots of wind and rain)

Then again...wasn't long ago that Ike sure surprised a few folk...

It's a brand new 2010 Mazda 3 in Celestial Blue. It's the brightest most brilliant blue color I've ever seen! I actually looked for this car in this color for almost a year and couldn't find it until this weekend. We're already in love...

Looks like a great place. You're going to love putting it all together the way you want! Congrats!

Good day everyone. I am in the local Starbucks. Had to change rooms in the hotel last night. Well, actually, it was early this morning. <_< Waiting for a response from the hotel general manager regarding compensation for the situation. A floor full of yahoos moved in two nights ago. Asked them to be quiet about 12-1:00am:crying: the first night. Then called the front desk. Then spoke with the front desk again the next morning. When it began all over again last night we asked to be moved. Spoke with the front desk again this morning (to get the gm's contact info) and they said they were contacting the yahoo's employer as I believe they are construction workers or something. But not your typical construction workers. I can handle people like that. These people had something terribly wrong with them. It was in their eyes. I spent the first night after I'd spoken with them lying in my bed wondering if they were going to shoot me through the door. :crying:

Maybe this should be in the vent thread.

 :wow: Sure hope you get a better place to sleep..that's terrible. Definitely hope you get some kind of compensation,

I got a new car! :)

The husband and I went down to the car lot to "look" We had a pact to play tough and not commit to anything. 3 hours later we drove off the lot with the car... But, they made us a good offer and I love it.

That's great! I can't wait to get one. I could probably get one now, but I want to do some MAJOR reno's to Tim's house! So I'll just wait for a car. I'm sure that SOMEDAY I'll have a job!

This typo really gave me my laugh for the day.

My husband has been thinking about a new BBQ (I guess they call them grills here :) ) for Father's Day. So today I get this text from his 21 year old son:

Hey...any idea on what I should get my dad for fathers day? I was thinking maybe like a new girl or something like that, I thought I heard him say his was acting up.

 that's funny!!!

I like the kitten video too!

Got back from PA last night, and I think I could move there! What a pretty part of the world, and the temperature was great. Not to hot, not to cold. Tim said though it was unusual weather for that time of year. Should have been a little warmer than it was, I guess. I know I'm back in the South though...humidity...ugh.

Just so you know, the live theaters you're speaking of ( the ones in Lancaster anyway) are less than a mile from our house! It's too bad I'm not going to be here :(.

But have a great time! There's lots to do around here. BTW, make sure to check ahead of the bridges before you cross. Don't want to hit another car!

Awwww that would have been so great to meet you two! We'll be at the Sight and Sound Tues. afternoon for Joseph, and then going to another one that evening for Huck Finn!

And thanks for the tip of the covered bridges!! LOL...I don't think I would have thought of that.

We're getting ready to go to WV and PA in a couple days! We'll be touring the Amish, and the country roads with all those quaint covered bridges, a couple of live theaters..and off to Hershey!! I can't wait...I think it's going to be a great trip!

Congrats on your new fridge Peachey! I can't wait till we start doing some reno's around here. Tim's house really needs a lot of help. I got him a new computer, and it's wireless! We had no idea at the time. I'm going to get one for me later too! :)

hey everyone...just wanted to pass along that I my ROC was approved!! *Whew* took a long time..and the orginal packet and RFE I had to send was a little weak... I did have 4 strong affidavits from friends...so for those of you starting this process...they sure don't hurt. I also wrote in several letters of why everything else was weak. I myself didn't even realize that my name didn't get on the bank account a year and a half AFTER we were married! In my letter I wrote, I apologized and said I had no idea what Tim and I were doing that it took so long to add my name!! Anyway..it's done!! No tax returns, *Tim doesn't file..he's on disability*...the other vehicle is in his name only..but we do have one in both our names..and most of the bills..like cell phone..credit cards..came in his name only..even though I showed that there are two phones...and copied both cards! Yeah...like Tim is going to pay for my cell phone..and let me have a Visa on his account..if we didn't live together! Sheesh!!

ohh thats a good idea about the home inspection report..the first page has a pic of the house addy and both our names! i almost forgot about that! :) I have the home insuance etc. but that is in my husbands name..hmm i'll talk to my allstate rep see if it can be put in both of ours.

ty :)

Yep! Do that! I thought the two cards from All state *the ones you carry if something goes wrong on the road* would be enough..but no. I just got an RFE today...*VSC* and they didn't think that the insurance in just Tim's name was enough...among other things. Unfortunatly..there are some things missing from the beginning of our marriage...like bills in both names, credit cards, etc. because we just didn't get them changed right away. *sigh* We're going to have to get some friends to write statements. Thankfully..we go to church with a notary public!

Oh..my name isn't on the house..but we don't have mortgage/lease, because it's owned outright. I explained that in a letter. We didn't have life insurance; wills, loans etc either. Sheesh. It's almost like they expect you to go run out and do all that...

So....been a little while since travelling the halls of this place. I'm waiting...and waiting...and waiting to here back from VSC. Hooo boy!! Slow!! Sent in my packet in November, and haven't heard as much as a whisper! The "proof" is minimal, as there are lots of things we just don't have, *but I explained in a cover letter* We didn't have taxes at the time...Tim being on disability, he doesn't file, and I just filed my first this year, *after sending in the packet* no insurance policies, that is until recently as I started a full time job at the hospital, and they cover life insurance for me, and I named him beneficary....so I suppose if we end up with a RFE, I have some further things...The waiting is annoying though. I suppose I won't really panic until about Sept. or Oct...then I'll have to check out my next move, in case I don't hear anything.

Congratulations to all those that have been approved!! Sure hope my turn is coming. At this point, I'd even welcome an interview!

CanadaMoving: Canada to USA. What company did u use to ship ur stuff?
QUOTE (poprocks @ Jun 28 2009, 10:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I scanned and emailed my I-94 and passport. As long as it's a good printer they should print off well.

Maybe you can find a cheap mover? They usually consolidate your shipment with others. Most co's charge anywhere from .50 to $1 per lb. I had just over 3000lbs and paid $2000. But that was for a home pick up, inventory and door to door drop off. It made sense for me cause to replace all that furniture it would cost way more. I also had about 35 boxes of stuff.

Thanks for the great info. I really don't know how many boxes I'll have yet. I'm hoping to keep it down to quite low. I'm taking mainly some personal items, no furniture at all, and my clothes. I might just pay the extra and take two large suitcases with me. I do have some larger pictures that hang on the wall. I'll have to see what I can do about those.

I read that if I get a notarized letter giving a relative authorization to ship my belongings, I may just send my sister all my documents, and have her ship them. I'm wondering then if it's ok to go with Fed Ex, or regular mail. Or do I have to go with an actual shipping company?

I'm hoping I'll receive an answer for this, if not...I'll be making a post!! LOL

I want to be able to ship some things down before I move. I have just gotten my passport back with the visa in it, and was thinking about Fed Ex. ( I live in a small town) Is just a copy of the visa ok? I understand I won't have an I-94 until I cross the border. I really don't have to much, just a few medium size boxes, and I'm going to ask Fed Ex about sizes and weight restrictions.

I'd really like to start shipping things down right away, even though I won't be moving until the middle of August. I'm wondering if that's ok too.

Thanks for anyone who finds this....laughing.gif

You can't have your personal belongings cross before you do. Any company you use, will need a copy of your passport and a copy of your I-94. They will help you complete a 3299 form for 'items to follow/not accompanying you'. The two ways you can bring stuff over, is either with you, when you cross, or after you have crossed.

I'm sure people have tried, even with success...but it's not the proper/legal way to do it....

Good luck smile.gif and if it's not much stuff...maybe it can wait?

i'm still waiting for my stuff and I crossed a month ago! lol! it's coming this week! I had quite a bit...about 3000lbs.... I used AJ Campbell, who is associated with Atlas Van Lines smile.gif

Thanks...I was really afraid of that! laughing.gif I guess then I'll have everything ready to go, and maybe someone here can send them. I'll mail back what ever documents they need. I really don't think I'll warrant an actual moving company. It's quite possible, I'll just be leaving more behind than I'd like. Kinda frustrating though, as there is no way I can fit all my clothes and shoes, etc. into one suitcase!

I always use Ufile - it's only $15.95 for a single return and it's easy to use. If your income was under 20,000 for the year (on line 150) it's free!

Thanks!! I don't have time to look through it all but I'll save it until later. Unless of course it's better to do mine the old fashioned way and send a copy of the marriage license with it?

CanadaThe IRS/CRA Income Tax Thread

Giving this thread a bump and probably repeating a question or three..

1. I moved to the US in August 2009 and have yet to be employed in the US. My conditional PR status was approved in 2010. Do I have to file a US tax return for 2009?

2. How the hell do you file taxes abroad? I'm not going to lie I never paid much attention to this aspect of immigration. Can you NETFILE or no?

3. If you cannot NETFILE where do you get the forms to do it manually? Which will make me sad because I always did my taxes on my own but through the joy of free tax programs lol

good questions, Beans!! I have the same ones, basically!!

I have heard you can't netfile. rats!! Makes it soooo easy!! Plus, last year I have the sale of my house. Although I don't pay taxes because I lived IN the house I sold, I was told I put it on line such and such, then again on line such and such...I was told this last August when I left! LOL ummmm can't remember what she said, and was too busy to write it down!

I figure I'm going to call CRA. I saw a number online, and I called it a couple of months ago, and got a person right away!! :o Didn't know how to start the conversation, I was waiting for recordings... I have so many questions for those people they better grab a cup of coffee and hold all other calls!!

So I haven't spoken to a person at all. I don't know where to send in my information.
