IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exams in Canada - Civil Surgeons?
I don't know if there are any USCIS approved doctors in Calgary. I do know that there is one in Vancouver, possibly for all of BC. The others that I've heard about are in Toronto and Montreal. However, things may have changed with that.

You're best to wait until the NOA2, packet 3, that your wife will receive, as it will give full instructions on what doctor to make the appointment with.

I too, have to say goodbye to my dog, so I understand how you feel.

As I was looking into it however, (and there are lots of sites that tell you) I did read that depending on when the animal has had the proper immunizations, then they actually don't need to be quarantined! Believe it or not. However, again, depending on when one was travelling, a lot of airlines won't fly pets in the summer because if it's too hot then it's unhealthy. One of the factors that led me too my decision in not taking her. The couple of airline that would fly pets in the summer, (because they keep the cargo hold, and vans cool) are very expensive for a ticket, plus paying for her to travel. It may be different though for a smaller dog that can fit under the seat in the cabin.

I don't know your situation, but with me I sold my house. I was also a widow, and the mortgage was paid for after my husband died, so all equity was mine. The consulate was VERY pleased with that.

If you have any stocks and bonds, vehicles, etc. that can be turned, or that you will turn to cash, use them! I would have sooner sold my car, ( had it been worth anything ) than try to transport it. That's just me though...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduressilly question?
QUOTE (Peet @ Jan 11 2009, 08:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It probably is...

We sent off our papers for K1 on the 29th of December .
Finally I should say.
Now I am trying to find out when we should expect to hear something.
Looking at the statistics with processing times I get a bit confused, they give two time lines, for SCC and for VSC
Which one am I supposed to look at?
We filed in Vermont.

Thanks for helping a beginner out blush.gif

Hi Peet! Looks like you sent off your papers same time as us! And to the same place. Tim's cheque was cashed on Jan. 5th, and on the back has the case # so that he could register online at USCIS and track what's happening with us. He got the NOA in the mail on the 10th. I hope this helps you somewhat. Keep us informed!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about "the two people must have met in person within the past two years" rule,
QUOTE (DAY937 @ Jan 15 2009, 08:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I was wondering about the you must met in person within the past two years ordeal for the K1-Visa process.

My situation is that I met my fiance from Spain online through Myspace Sept 07. Then we start to getting to know each other, and the relationship turn into a love relationship, then met her in June 08 in Europe, then she come to USA to visit in Sept of 08 til Dec 08, then I come to visit her and family in Spain Dec 19, 2008 til Jan 5, 2009 (this was when I ask her to marry me). She's coming again in March of this year (09), then I'm flying back with her to Spain in June of this year 2009.

With the "the two people must have met in person within the past two years" rule, am I eligible to file a petition for the K1 visa for my fiance in July 2009 since from July 07-July 09 we will have met a total of 5 times? Or I have to wait til Sept 2009 to file because that was when we met online Sept of 07?

Thanks for your help.

Day937,

If you get the chance to come back and read this, don't worry about what other people say!! I bet you're very skilled!! Unlike me, that is obviously not very intelligent because, I too, thought it needed to be a TWO YEAR RELATIONSHIP! Little did I know, Tim and I could have filed almost 2 years ago. (course, still need that "will you marry me" question) It just so happened that like you, we spent LOTS of time together to be sure of each other, and he didn't ask me "the question" until Oct. 2008. We have quite the file that we sent in! So I suggest, get things in order, fill out the appropriate files (lots of help in the guides section for that ) and ASK QUESTIONS!!! No such thing as a silly question!! Gracious, we're all dealing with something very important to us, and although I can't speak for the rest of everyone on here, I myself am going crazy knowing that my marriage to the man I love is resting in the hands of someone that's never met us!! You bet I want to be sure that the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed!!

Let us all know how your journey is going....and congratulations on your engagement!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about wedding
QUOTE (laura819 @ Jan 16 2009, 06:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We are planning our wedding for August 15, 2009. We've got a lot of things reserved, etc. However, I don't think we are going to recieve our visa in time. So my first thought was obviously to move the wedding. However, my pastor said that he thinks we can still do the wedding without the visa, but just not sign the paperwork. What i mean is, have the ceremony, etc, but not do a marriage license. And then after getting the visa approved, we could fill out the marriage license. Is this even a possibility? Or is it still illegal?? Please help!!!

I can relate with you there!! Tim and I are so hoping to get married in June!! *Uncontrollable laughter over that one* As you can see...USCIS just received our information earlier this month. Not that it's impossible to have everything ( including visa ) for that time, but unlikely. Talking to him last night, I mentioned that it's a good thing to be mentally prepared for a later date, and now we are hoping for August too. ( EEEKK In a South Carolina summer!!! I'm going to melt!!) I've only brides maids picked out, and we both belong to the same faith, so the church won't be a problem. If it's your friends that are helping out with other details, then hopefully they'll be able to accommodate you at the time. What I've asked Tim to do, is look for plans A, B, and maybe even C for halls and photographers, because you never know which may or may not be available for your wedding date. We won't even set the date until I have my interview. ( Then he'll probably get on the phone and say "mail off those invitations!!!) LOL

I do hope that things will work out for you considerably. This waiting game sucks!!! * and all peoples nod their head in agreement* This is the price to pay about marrying a foreigner! The hurry up and wait game. I like the comment of "penciling" in the tentative date. All though way too many people have said they want to be at Tim's and my wedding....( well over 300!!), it's a strong possibility that when our date is finally set, a lot of guests won't be able to make it because of prior commitments. Take care Laura and keep posting your progress. You never know....could very well be an August wedding for both of us....and legal!!! dancin5hr.gif kicking.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTravel prior to K-1 approval
That's great. I'm glad for you both. Can she come back and go with me in April???? LOL Sounds like she knows what she's doing!

I'm planning two trips later. One to Greece at the end of March. Not worried about that even though I fly out of JFK. It's on my return. I'd like to go to SC for the month of April so that we can get lots of things accomplished for the wedding. Have my dress sewn, do a little painting in Tim's house, etc. I'm so afraid because I know a month is a long time. Gotta get that confidence look on.

Not entirely sure how all that will work either. I'll have a POE to travel to JFK...( I may not fly out of Canada, but Seattle, WA.) and then returning from Athens to JFK..I'll have two POE's to deal with!!! wacko.gif

OMG! Now I'm even more stressed!

I do like this site and it provides SO MUCH information, but I found this site well after the fact and now I find there are so many things we missed!.

- We have already had one RFE, and I didnt include the letter stating we were engaged and plan to marry, and I'm pretty sure my fiance didnt either. Have they ever sent TWO RFE's? or will they just deny it outright ?

I cant believe this whole process is so stressful and the fact that the government sites say include form A. thats it. when in actuallity what they want is form A-Z PLUS forms 1-5. Then they hold it against you for not supplying them the information they want.

- Ok, now that I have ranted on, back to the topic at hand. If we dont get denied right away, it will be ok to bring the letters of intent to marry to the interview right?

Please tell me Im over reacting crying.gif

I hope you continue to let us know how things are going..I'm cheering you on! good.gif

Your very welcome. Dont be afraid to look for the answers to your questions on other peoples threads by using the search option or start another thread requesting assistance. They are a helpful bunch around here smile.gif

Best of luck with everything.

Oh....and FYI, my SO didn't do the one knee thing. I dont have a ring, and it went something like this.

Him "Ellie i love you. Your alright ya know!"
Me "That's nice darling and um, flattering I guess......for an understated declaration of love"
Him "Do you want to do this forever?"
Me "What? Lie around eating potato chips whilst you cook dinner?"
Him "Yeah"
Me "Sure, i have nothing better to do with my life"

And some may say romance is dead......... wacko.gif smile.gif

QUOTE (SonoranSongbird @ Jan 26 2009, 08:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You will not be able to apply for a K1 visa unless you physically meet in person at least once. And you will need to save plane tickets to prove that you did meet. The one exception they make is for an arranged marriage, which yours sounds like it is not.

I don't know where you live or what her reason for not wanting to leave the US is. If it is a matter of the cost to fly to visit you, perhaps you can arrange a vacation together in a third country that is easier for her to reach and easier for you to get a visa for. If it is a matter of her not being able to take vacation time from work, at least try meeting in Mexico or Canada, which could be a long weekend trip for her.

It's also really not a bad idea to at least spend a little time together before committing yourselves to this process, relationship wise.

Good luck to you and welcome to the board!

This is very good advice. What VJ'ers are trying to do is encourage you to meet. And have proof of a relationship. Going through the guides will help you a lot.

The other thing...and this I believe is important. Is to count the cost. If you fiancee isn't travelling because of lack of $$$, then how are you going to pay for a K-1, AOS, removing conditions, and possible naturalization? Plus the affidavit of support? We are not trying to discourage you at all, but help you to make sure all is in place with no problems. Tim and I didn't quite dig into this far enough, and there may be a factor that could deny the visa. Thankfully we have time to search it out, and hopefully get things in order before the interview.

Welcome, and keep posting and asking questions. There are some very helpful people on here that can point you in the right direction.

This graph shows that VSC did trend down last year 2008 after Christmas. The data is only from VJ member timelines, not the whole VSC.
Where you see the biggest dip, keep in mind that those month figures are showing the days to NOA2. In the April dip it was taking about 60 days average so go back 60 days to know when they filed...February.

For many who filed in Feb 2008 at VSC, it was much faster than 60 days to receive the NOA2.
Look at these profiles.

30 days http://www.visajourn...l...l=&id=46999

19 days http://www.visajourn...l...l=&id=46589

Well..although we mailed in the files end of Dec. they weren't received until January.

I think I'd have a panic attack if they were approved in 18 days!!! LOL LOL It might be a dream to some, but I still won't mind the "usual; average" timeline...

TimandJoyceFemaleCanada2009-02-09 15:57:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPlanning a wedding in 3 months?
I think 3 months is more than enough time!! Start now..

For instance...Does the USC have family and friends to help him/her? Everyone always says it's the "bride's" day...but if there were no groom.....*shrugs*..

So you just make sure that if you're the bride that's coming to the States, ( as I am ) get him involved!! Tim's sister will be my maid of honour, and she's now my eyes and legs as she's checking out patterns and material for the bridesmaids dresses. I've pick out my pattern, and when I'm there we'll make it. Tim has checked around for reception halls already, to find prices, and of course how many people can fit into it!! LOL...We are having a big wedding!! I mentioned the "civil" part...but got no response, so I don't think it sits well...

I'm fortunate that I can go to SC for a month, (pending boarder patrol, of course). But that's our plan. I know that's difficult for a lot of people. During that time we will decide on several issues, and just have our baskets floating in the air until we can secure a date. We filed in Jan. and HOPE that all goes well enough for a Summer wedding....That would include the months of June, July, August, possibly September. When the interview is set...We'll have everything almost locked in until we know for sure...then it will be some quick calls to secure halls, etc.

Oh..and as for invitations...They can be expensive. A friend of mine just lost her mother and at the funeral, I was impressed with the pamphlet she had. A nice coloured picture of her mom, and write up, all on nice printed card stock. I asked where she got them from, and she did it up on her computer!! Then she took them to Staples, and had them printed off on the stock. They really looked good, and wasn't that expensive at all!! I think about $30 or so. I think she said she used Word, so I'm going to have her come over and show me. That way, I can use a picture, write up...and when I know the date, add it, print it...go to Staples and get them in the mail! Tim is going to do invitations for State side, I'll do them for Canada side.

Good luck with all your planning...it really can be done. I'm sure if we can get most of it organized now..we could have a "big" wedding within 2 or 3 weeks of my arrival.
