approved and interview set already......God bless

wow.gif That's great!! I'm really happy for you both! I'm down in SC for the month of April so I haven't been here to much to catch up with what's going on. Although I would like January files to hurry up....between you and me and the gatepost...my wedding dress isn't made yet...so I need to wait some!! LOL LOL

I also have some things that need to be taken care of at home first so really, I'm hoping for a September wedding anyways...we don't need approval too too quick...so I hope you all get yours soon!!

Mine usually goes all over on the weekends. Maybe because VSC doesn't update status's then?? *Not knowing these things* However, I do know that mail is delivered on Saturdays and have read that some people never did get updated emails of their NOA2 and *poof* there it is in the mail, which would also explain the mighty drop that I've encountered. All I can say is "GO VSC!!"

Mind you, I do have some very realistic views and realize that VJ is only a small percentage of petitions, so I'm not organizing my life according to my time line, however reading that it could be approved by end of May has got me excited!! laughing.gif

Well we're just fairly new ourselves, and I do know that in January I saw lots of approvals for the August filers, but it seems to have slowed down a little this week. I think some of the Sept. filers are getting their approvals, with some Octobers thrown in....Sounds good to me because that's getting close to January.... star_smile.gif

How do you determine what spot you started at? I didn't think to look the day I actually filed. I'm sure we haven't moved much in 5 days, though...lol

As soon as I saw the link to Igor's list...( I wasn't sure what it was either) Then click on Vermont. It will show you the last 28 approved ( NOA2) K-1's, and then the approved K-3's. The next set will be the people waiting for NOA2...both K-1 and K-3. Find the category you're in...and scroll down. Tim and I were at 473 when I first peeked, now sitting at 430. Not bad for a couple weeks. Oh...and check it lots...we moved up over 10 spaces from morning to evening of the same day. When you first go on the site...you'll see all the new approvals...and then you know you're probably up on the list...Check your estimated time of approval on your time line too. That goes up and down a lot!! tongue.gif

Igor's list can be found here http://www.visajourn...filers.php?cfl=
This is only based on VJ members and not the other 1000's out there that are in the visa process, but it is quite handy, although it can get quite depressing if you dont move in the right direction on the list.

Hope you're still going to visit us in Dec '08 VSC Joshua whistling.gif

Yeah, our trips were in chronological order as well but with tabs on the bottom of each section of the packet instead of putting them into seperate folders...doesnt matter really, as long as there's not all staples which really annoys the USCIS officers - so i've heard.. smile.gif

Hmmmm I can't remember if anything was stapled too much!! LOL Probably a few things..Wonder if they've ever heard of a staple remover...works fast and it's easier on the fingernails!!

I did staple the bottom of the folders just so that things didn't slip out and get lost, but it's still really easy to get to everything....wish I was a fly on the wall so I could see what they're doing!! tongue.gif

Got a call from Donna today from interstate claims office. I had sent my fax on the 5th of January and she said they had still not received it... Weird.... She says there's so many fax's coming through, and sometimes they get lost. She asked me what # I faxed to and it was the one Wis-can posted She gave me her email address to scan a copy of my GC because she didn't want to wait another day. It sounds like to me I will do my last reports over the phone with her, because I still haven't received any of Decembers report cards!

Hopefully I will be getting $$ soon!

Oh how wonderful for an email address. I'm sure I have a phone # when I first got the letters and such. I just got approved for my EAD today!! Yipppppeeee.... I hope to receive my card within a week or so. I'll track down that number and see if I can get a hold of Donna and get her email. I'd rather scan and send it that way too. Thanks for the tip! :)

It's going to feel so good to get a little $$ in this house, and be able to look for a job!

TD basically told me that they can't do any name changes unless they are done in person...end of story. I can bank with them over the phone, but not do an actual name change. Also, in person they were willing to change the name on my credit card, the problem was that they couldn't mail me a new card to a US address, so you might want to confirm that CIBC will be able to mail you a new card in the US.

I barely use my cards from TD anymore anyways, I may not even change my credit card. It's such a hassle!

I would also imagine getting new cards wouldn't be too much of a problem, as one of them is a US Dollar Visa, and that I use it here. The only thing I don't like about it is that I can't pay online because the number is American, not Canadian so I have to send a cheque or money order to Toronto by snail mail... wacko.gif Hopefully I can get it all changed ok..otherwise just like travelling in my previous name, I'll be signing receipts in my previous name...

What bank do you bank with Joyce?

I bank with TD and they told me that I had to come in person to change my name on my accounts, they wouldn't take my marriage certificate by mail or fax. So I went this past weekend and they still couldn't change my TD Visa because they have to send the new card to the branch, they can't send to a US address... and they wouldn't hold the card for me until Christmas or mail it to me. So I have to call TD Visa back a couple of weeks before I'm back in Canada and then they'll issue me a new visa and send it to my brank in time for me to pick it up. So annoying!

CIBC. I had filled out a "fax/phone" document that will allow me to do transactions, pay bills ( I do that online anyway) or anything I need to. As far as I was told, I could call up and talk with the person in charge, ( I also know her well, she married a Texan, and he moved to Canada, so we have a lot in common) and that I could probably just fax my license. Course haven't called her yet so I could get a different story laughing.gif I think I should be fine because of the authorization letter I signed.

Does TD have anything like that? Did you fill and sign one? Maybe something can still get worked out.

Did anyone change their name to their married name for EI or just keep it in your maiden name?

I kept it in my maiden name since my SIN and bank accounts are still in my maiden name.

When I finally get around to receiving EI, ( got the letter to say I wasn't going to get benefits because I need to prove I can obtain employment... laughing.gif , then they sent something to say I could be eligible for financial support in retraining.... to the US? I won't hold my breath.) I'm going to send a copy of our marriage certificate to my bank in Canada, and have my visa's changed to my married name, and then contact EI of how to do that too. My SIN was always in my maiden name, ( I've been married twice before) but it's never given me problems. My SSN is in my previous name, but when I get my EAD then I'll go have that changed too. My passport expires in 2011, but I don't foresee myself doing too many plane tickets to worry about, unless an emergency happens at home, but for now, my planned trip will be a year from now when my son gets married. ( unless I get homesick in the spring.. laughing.gif)

Well, I just got another letter from EI with questions about my citizenship, when I entered USA etc. There's also a question whether or not I've applied or received my EAD which of course in no, because I need to adjust status first, but I'm assuming I should have went ahead and applied as soon as I could after crossing the border? I know I can't receive anything until EAD, and they'll probably send something back stating to send a copy of it so they know I'm legal to work then.

I guess too, that on the reports cards I answer that I'm NOT able and willing..( well, ok, I'm willing... laughing.gif) and explain I need my EAD?

Wow..been so long since I was on EI, I've really forgotten about some of these questions! I should also put down in the week I receive my survivors benefit too, as it is considered taxable income?

Yes, they'll send you a letter after you send back the one they just sent you about the status and visa and tell you that you are not eligible for EI until you are legal and able to work in the US.

On the report cards, I put that I was able and willing to work - but they don't back pay you anyways, so you don't even really need to fill those out.

They'll start paying you from the date of your EAD card.

Thanks so much! I knew the loophole door closed a while back of collecting EI for the first 90 days, that's ok. I should hopefully be able to get the EAD in January, as we will probably file AOS first week of October.

You don't have to declare your survivor's pension as long as it's the one paid from Canada Pension plan. It isn't considered earnings for EI purposes.

Hope this helps!

I had to send a copy of my K-1 and I-94, plus original ROE.

Yeah me too. They sent me a letter asking for all that stuff after I started to receive the cards I think.... I can't remember. They start sending cards and then they send you a letter after 4 sets of cards saying they can't give you anything until you get your EAD. It's really stupid if you ask me... I wasted like 4 stamps sending them back cards and got nothing from them.

Oh ok. I can't send these back until after the 5th anyway, so I'll copy the visa and 1-94. I'm sure they'll think "what? we didn't tell her we wanted those yet" laughing.gif I knew about the EAD thing, no biggie. Guess they don't back pay you for the cards you fill out now, eh? *wishful thinking*

That's good that you've gotten a quick response though. I've done my online application, and I'm only guessing that they will send something to me because I have to send them my ROE, and apparently break up my weeks of payment so they can see my 14 best weeks and my weeks where I made less than $225 or something. I had explained an absence of a month and half for vacation time, but I may need to send in each week there was a gap in my employment as well. I'm hoping that an email sent to my place of work will result in sending me the required information that I need. I didn't see an address and they didn't ask for my email, so I don't know if they got the online application or not. I can't receive anything until the EAD anyways, so I have a little time.

I should have my EAD card soon to send it in. They finally sent me a letter saying that I'm denied until I send them an EAD card. Took them long enough!!

Thanks!! I'll let my boss know that maybe a good thing to write that..just in case.

Just clarifying; I'm working up to a few days before I move, and will have my ROE and last paystubs, etc. I have kept lots, but my pay goes from the 1-15, and then 16- end of month, (30 or 31). It's been a while since I was collecting EI, and I can't remember if they only need my last pay info, or something else. My vacation pay is also part of my cheques, so I won't get a "payout" of that.

When I file for EI, I do it right away when I move, is that correct? Other than the ROE, they need the info on the I-94? Being how I'm moving in 4 weeks, I just want to be sure I have all the right info, before I'm Stateside. Ugh. And I thought waiting for approval, and the interview was hard. This is all too much like work! laughing.gif

Apply as soon as possible when you arrive in the US... I had to send the original of my ROE and a copy of the visa and I-94, plus fill out some forms (online).... You don't need paystubs, all info they need is on the ROE.

Ok, that's great. Thanks for the reply! I forgot to ask what letter is put in that box for reason to quit. I know my boss well enough that she wouldn't want to put the wrong one, in case it slows down or hinders my claim.

Well got my EAD on Monday, faxed it that night, forgot to send my marriage cert (lol they must have thought some random person was sending them #######) and EI called today to tell me I will start getting my money for the week of the 28th.

They did the "two week waiting period" by the date on the card, which was the 13th of June (not the day they received it), and I'm elegible for 32 weeks. She reminded me to keep track of places I apply to, to prove I am activly looking for a job. As well, if I decide to do volunteer work, to keep looking for jobs (dur tongue.gif ) and let them know.

so after 5 months and being slightly cranky about it, I will finally have some money..

though it looks like I may be able to get hired at Best buy soon lol...

OK here's my update for K-1's

This is how my claim went but no guarantee's for anyone else .. Basically as a K-1 in the eyes of EI i was work eligible up until the date i was married ... I made my claim the day after i moved and was married 1 month after .. so for the first 2 weeks i'll get nothing for the waiting period and the 2 following weeks i am recieving 2 checks for the time up until i got married.. and that stops until i get my EAD into them. So translation to me yes you can claim on a K-1 with no EAD but only until the date you get married .. ok hope this post is somewhat helpful to people

crying.gif Whaaaaa I'm always late for the party!!!! laughing.gif

At least there's a "possibility" of collecting something before I get married. I'll be down a month before the wedding too. And when I do find a job, legally of course, I hope to only work a few hours a week, rather than full time, so hopefully should still be able to keep a partial claim going until it runs out. I'd like something that will only be a couple to three days a week, for now.

Your boss won't have anything to do with the Best Weeks, you will need to look at your pay stubs and calculate it from there. It's gross, not net, btw.

I didn't have my paystubs anymore and it was a giant headache to figure out which weeks and then ask my employer's head office to find my gross for those weeks. Oy.

Ugh! Pay stubs...of course...like I would keep those!! Then that's for sure I'd better mention to my boss!! She's been my "new" boss since Aug. of 2007, so thankfully I only have to go through her. Hopefully that won't be too much trouble... wacko.gif

Thank you so much for all your help. It's answered lots of my questions!!! I'll just send Tim the link for applying online so that he can add it to his favourites, and then I'll apply the DAY I arrive, regardless of the time. Don't want to sound too greedy..but I wouldn't mind as much money back as I can possible get!! Not to mention somewhere along the way I'll have to to a 2009 Cdn taxes...but I'll worry about that one a little later..laughing.gif.....

Not sure how all that's going to fall into place when I have my interview and such. Tim is coming up when it happens, ( I'm so happy!!) and then we'll fly back to the States together after about a week. Little early to tell though, exactly the play by play... laughing.gif

You have to apply from your US address, after your K-1 has been activated at the border.

You will need supporting documentation, but you do NOT need to wait until you get that documentation to apply. Apply as SOON as you land in the US and your K-1 is active, so you can claim EI for the full duration of the visa.

What documentation actually? I'm guessing this will be obvious?? wacko.gif

Don't apply while in Canada, but try to apply 1-2 days after your US arrival. You'll only get 90 days and the clock starts ticking the moment you arrive.

90 days to receive EI? or 90 days to apply for it? Just trying to figure out if I only have 3 months of it or not..

Did anyone apply for EI before leaving Canada? Or are you supposed to apply after you move? I know you have to apply within 4 wks of last day worked. It was really good news for me too when I found out.... I can contribute to rent and bills!! I just transfer every few weeks. I believe trailmix started a wiki page for EI to answer FAQ's and there are websites for you to look at. Here are a few to get you started:

Thank you so much!! This will be a huge relief. I'll check out those sites soon!! Glad us newbies have you oldtimers to fall back on!! tongue.gif

Flames is correct, I found out it has to be deposited into a Canadian bank account. That was fine, because I also signed up for Custom House and it's really great! Only downfall is it takes about 5-7 days for the transfer to go through, so you don't see it right away.

I don't yet have my EAD and I'm still getting EI....

Wow that is so great! I'll check in with the local office here in a few weeks or so. I'm probably not moving until summer ( I HOPE!!!) and I'll check that website out later too....just to know that it's possible lifted up some stress.

Funny they won't deposit it into a US account when I'll be able to do that with my survivor's benefit. Oh well....guess that's the government for you! LOL Better keep my account open then!

Hello Canadians!! I really hope I'm reading this right! I can claim EI in the states after receiving an EAD? *faints* Please tell me I'm not dreaming...I'm stressed over this entire process as it is! If that's the case, how will that affect the affidavit of support? Is there an area to fill in that I'd bring in a bit of income?

Hi All,

Does the EI get deposited directly into my Canadian bank account, or do they mail you cheques in CAD $ to your US address, or do they deposit directly into my US account? Thank you!

Jill, check to see if they can make a direct deposit into a US account. I also receive a survivor's benefit, ( not a whole lot though..lol ) and I can receive it after marriage, and live any where in the world. It CAN be deposited into a US account as long as it's associated with American Bankers Association. I hope this helps...

Now...back to reading more info....I'm really smiling about this....

As I mentioned before, my husband and I are going back to North Carolina sometime (and maybe travelling even further south in the USA too), so it would definitely be fun if we can all have a VJ in-person get-together sometime in South Carolina, or Anywhere Else in America!

Cool!! Maybe when you do a SC tour, I'll be living in it by then!!! I'm hoping to move to Sumter this summer, ( depending on immigration of course laughing.gif) and that's only two hours from Charlotte! I really need to tour the State more; I've never heard of Greer. Course, I've only been there twice. Love Myrtle Beach. Think I'll be asking Tim to take me out there lots. I won't have to twist his arm too much. He likes to go out there too.

And yes. Love the story. Glad you got your passport safely!! I'm surprised they let someone else sign for it though.
