CanadaDesperate for some Canadian Tea in USA
I'm a tea drinker once in a while. I like a cup in the afternoon as a pick up, or if I've waken up from a nap. I have a box here that one of my bridesmaids bought to make iced tea out of, Lipton, which isn't bad. There is so much of it here, I might as well drink it...but my absolute favourite???? That would be Tetley's Earl Gray Vanilla! I can't find that one....

When I can finally go home....I'm stocking up!

huh... that's a cool idea. I have not seen that before either. We do sometimes have a choice of funky designs (my Capital One card in Canada has a Canadian flag on it, for example... which I did to remind myself later on that this is my Canadian credit card laughing.gif ).

p.s. the WWF is now just the World Wildlife Fund.... the 'other' WWF is now called the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment, or something like that). lol

The last time I watched wrestling (a very rare occurrence) was when Hulk Hogan was active. tongue.gif

As for Capital One... well, in the U.S. they have the option to import an image onto the card and have that issued. My CapOne card has a picture of my wife and me at our wedding. We get comments on it all the time. Usually from women, actually.

I think that's the last time I watched wrestling too!! laughing.gif There were a few I got a kick out of. ( not that I was in the ring mind you... unsure.gif )

I love the idea of a picture of your wedding on a credit card. I may have to see if I can get a Capitol One! (doubt it)

Don't know why about the perks you mentioned not being on Canadian cards, though. That would be a great idea. The only card Tim uses is a Bass Pro Shop point card, and I think it only gives points towards purchases.

CanadaAfter your K1 Application is approved
Congratulations on your approval!!

Peachy covered everything here for you. A letter will be sent shortly to her explaining what she will need. If she doesn't have a long form birth cert. let her know to go get one as I don't know how long it will take to come in. It will list the doctors name in Vancouver in which she'll have her medical, and the website. She needs to check out what the US regulations are for so she can get better prepared. The fee for the medical will be $350 (Canadian) and the visa is $131 US. It will explain in her letter how to deposit that into a Bank of Nova Scotia branch.

Your part is to send her the copy of the packet for the 129-F as well as the affidavit of support, to prove she won't be a public charge. That's the I-134. Make sure your familiar with it so you can get the supporting documents. If you need a co-sponsor, you both will fill one out.

Let her know that the medical, and interview is very easy as long as your prepared. Here she will need proof of relationship as well. Bring lots of pictures of the two of you, emails, and anything to do with your upcoming wedding. Have a date in mind of when you'll get married!! Trust me, I think it goes over a little better. Oh, and you don't need a "big" wedding planned, just a date. But if you are planning an actual wedding ( like we did, with guests, etc) bring the proof of that.

It's going to be busy over the next little while for the two of you. And it will go fast. If you're able to be there with her for the interview that would be great, however, if not, she'll be fine. The people at the consulate are very nice.

Let us know how things are going!

CanadaSending Checklist to Vancouver
Can't speak for anyone else, but I just sent off the check list, and waited until my interview date. Then I made my medical accordingly. You can make your appointment a couple weeks a head, as your interview will probably be a month or so from the time you send it off. Depending on where you live, you can have your medical the day before; the day of; or the day after your interview. I had mine the day after, and brought the results back to the consulate that afternoon, then left for home. They mailed my visa out, ( I knew I was approved at the interview) within a couple days.

Best wishes for everything, and don't worry. They are very nice at the consulate and the medical office.

CanadaTwo different stories, one ruined wedding. (Posting again and with updates)
You've been given lots of advice so far, and I just want to say that I hope everything works out for you and your husband quickly so that you will be together always.

Keep close to here as there are MANY that have walked down this road in various styles of visa's, some having to learn the hard way too. It's a real common mistake between Canada and America, because often we don't think of ourselves as immigrants...but we are..and so are they.. smile.gif I've mentioned to several people back home before I moved to tell sons, daughters and friends, ( not to mention a few when I did my medical) to check out VJ because it's such a wealth of information. Of course, this was to people involved in a Can/Am relationship, not just random people.. laughing.gif

I do hope you're together for Christmas. The "paperwork" quite likely won't be completed, but perhaps you can go down and visit for a couple weeks or so.

Best wishes!

CanadaImporting Vehicle
Well, I'm certainly not taking my car. For one thing it would never survive the drive from west to east! laughing.gif

If you can get a few bucks for your van, that's what I'd do. As far as the other car, you'll have to check the state laws transferring your drivers license over, and what's needed. I believe it's different from State to State.

Congratulations!! That was Hong that interviewed you. She's the one that interviewed me too, and yes she's very nice! She was real happy to approve me too. The sad thing was I was 3/3 to be interviewed and there was no one in the waiting room to see my HUGE smile when I came back from the window... laughing.gif I had my visa mailed to me too. Don't worry, it will come to you fine. smile.gif

CanadaPOE Questions :)
I POE'd in Vancouver International, and they didn't even care about my suitcases. I had two big ones, plus wall pictures that I had in a box. They didn't even ask questions. I hope your experience is just as easy, but it's good to be prepared.

I had to fill out my own I-94 and can't remember what it said on it. I just hope that I put my birthday in the right order as the copy I kept; it was backwards! whistling.gif (Putting day first instead of month) Americans it's month first. So if you DO have to write yours, watch out for that! smile.gif

CanadaUS to Canada calling . . . Cell Phone Providers?
For me...I don't have a cell phone, but Tim has bought me a calling card from Pennytalk. Literally, .01 cent a minute. He has had to call me in the past too, so it's nice. Other than that we use skyp, and I can text him for free from Yahoo messenger, and he can text back.

Course, soon we won't have to worry as I'm there in 3 days..but our system has worked well. Oh..pennytalk is online, and there is a .49 cent connection charge, even if it's an answering machine.

CanadaGot married last Friday! About time.
Congrats on your marriage, and enjoy another Thanksgiving!

For your copies of your marriage license; what I did was get ONE certified copy and copied that. My RFE had nothing to do with sending in a better copy of it.

Funny how every state is a little different. Here in SC we signed 3 marriage licenses, two went back to the courthouse, (says probate judge on the bottom) and one copy was for us ( says bride/groom) We didn't have to wait for anything, once we signed it, we were officially married. (Well, I'm sure the courthouse had to update their records a bit laughing.gif)

Best wishes for you AOS...
TimandJoyceFemaleCanada2009-11-25 11:14:00
CanadaDouble denial!
Wow! I can really understand your frustration. We got a RFE for my AOS and they're asking for the impossible, and we don't know what to do, yet. Talking with a friend and he says, 'that's the government for you, they don't make sense!"

We're thinking we may get a senator involved too. Hope all goes well for you. Hang in there...I'm sure there are answers for you.

CanadaOff Topic Part Trois

QFT

I smoked for over a decade, and would at this moment, in fact sell my soul for a cigarette. You never really completely free yourself from the cravings once the hooks are into you.

Actually, I don't crave them at all, and I've quit for over 18 years now. Smoked from age 14 to 27. My late husband says I was a "wanna be smoker" cause it was Players Extra Light, and I only smoked half a pack a day, ( unless I was drinking..lol) So maybe that's why I don't crave as much?

However when I was going through a terrible, stressful time with my marriage back then....oh yeah..the urge was there. I didn't though. Surprising. I almost did it like those boys back in the 50's asking for condoms!! I'd go to 7-11, pick out a bag of chips, bottle of pop, chocolate bar..whatever. And when I got to the counter I was going to casually say, "Players Extra Light please"...but I always chickened out!!

Ended up gaining weight because of the chips, chocolate, pop.....
