Getting of the gas topic...I packed another box kicking.gif kicking.gif Two down, and two to go!!

And very slowly my house is looking like some is moving. Not as many items on the shelves, plants and knick knacks gone...And I even remembered to cancel my hospital stay insurance!! The woman told me, "uh, yes, you need to be a resident of Canada..lol" But my life insurance is still good, and I can change the beneficiary. Only $11/ month so if something happens, Tim gets rich!! ( but I'm won't tell him that...just in case my food starts tasting like almonds)

Ugh!! and it's too hot here right now, we're going through a heat wave that will reach over 30 (feeling like 35) and for where I'm from that's hot!!! What was I thinking??? Moving to SC in August!! Oh my..... blink.gif

Does anybody else remember when full service gas stations were the norm? You would drive into the gas station and don't you dare touch those pumps! The uniformed guy would come out and wash your windows and check your oil while the gas was pumping. Then he would give you points towards your free dishes or free Tide with a free towel inside or whatever. lol

Or you would get a tiger tail for your bike for putting a tiger in your tank at Esso!

That happened to me a couple years ago here on the island!! Tim was up visiting, and I had to stop to get gas. Imagine my shock as I was about to get out of the car, and there was someone standing there asking, "fill up, mam?" blink.gif I almost didn't know how to answer. laughing.gif And then, he even topped up my transmission fluid!! Yeah my doctor faxed it Friday when they reviewed the results with me. I e-mailed Laura directly after lol and she said she won't receive it until next week. So now I'm anxiously awaiting I'm just scared that if there was a switch are the medical results mine? lol Or will I all of a sudden be diagnosed with menopause. I'm hoping to leave Aug 25, I hope both Woking and the Embassy can get their stuff together in that time. I doubt it but I'm hoping. I just want to leave. At least all this time has given me the time to pay off any consumer debt I had. So now I have no credit card debt and my cell is no longer on contract. Whoop whoop.

lol Sorry I'm excited.

You might get it in time *fingers crossed*

I envy you, girl. I won't pay off all my credit card, but most of it. I'll wait until the EAD and when the EI starts, or I get a job, then I can start paying more of it off. I'd rather have two incomes for that.

Did you tell the embassy beforehand that it was your intention to have the interview before the medical or does the embassy just assume that some people will do this?

This is a bit of a silly question but I've spent my whole life in a very small town where nothing ever happens. Downtown Vancouver at 5/6 am, anybody run into any unsavoury circumstances or is it a fairly safe area.

For myself, I had sent back the "check list" and waited to see the date they gave me, so I could make my medical. It turned out to be June 23rd, so I did email and ask what they preferred I do, and they said they were flexible, and to have the medical the next day was fine. Because the interview wasn't until 1:00, and I live on Vancouver Island, I was able to fly over in the morning, to the interview; stay over night, medical the next day, take results back after 2:00 and fly home that night. There are lots of places on Burrard and surrounding areas close to the Consulate and Medical. I stayed at the Hyatt Regency, but had got a GREAT deal from Travelzoo.

When you get there, get yourself a map. If you don't have anything else to do after your medical, walk down to Gastown. It's not that far, may 15-20 minutes. It's just a neat area for some shopping but they also have the spaghetti factory there, yum yum.

Also, as you are not allowed to bring bags, purses, electronic equipment, there is a little store directly across the street. It will have a Lotto and Passport sign in the window. They have bags to store your items, and price will go according to bag. I had a small purse type wallet and it was only $3 for them to keep it. The Starbucks won't because it's all part of the same building.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Information greatly appreciated.

I think I'm going to try for Wednesday then, that way barring any incidents or let downs we can be on the road by Thursday night!

If you schedule your interview for a Wednesday, and have your daughter with you, keep in mind, you should be at the medical center before 6:00 in the morning as your medical is at 6:30 and they take you in the order you arrive. There will probably be quite a few there that morning. You should be done by 8:00 or so.

The interview will be at 1:00 and will take a couple hours. The med results are ready by 2:00 so you can get them after the interview and bring them back to the consulate that day. You are probably going to need to find the bus schedule to save time from lots of walking. ( I estimate 10 to 15 minutes from the medical office to the consulate) The visa will be issued the next day.

I had my interview on Tues., the med on Wed., took my results back after 2:00 and left my passport with an xpress post envelope, (the large one) and left to go home that night. By doing so I only spent one night in Vancouver, instead of 2 or 3. And I had my visa by Friday.

Also, what about your own assets? Sometimes we forget that the beneficiary can use those. Your car? RRSP's? Does he have an IRA? I only suggest those as they were used in our case, and we were fine. CanadaCanadian Marrying American... Confusion!
QUOTE (Hugglebuggles @ Aug 1 2009, 05:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm certainly no expect in this, but logic would tell me that you should probably cancel your existing petition with USCIS and then go ahead and file for the K-1. Just to be certain you won't case yourself any conflicts or confusion at any point during this process. From what I hear, petitioning children over the age of 21 often takes an extremely long time, so I wouldn't be holding my breath for your green card to be approved before your wedding next year.

If you go ahead and cancel the original petition and file the I-129F, the only problem I can see arising is you may have to prove your intentions with your relationship a little more than a regular application. Maybe not... but since you have shown you have immigrant intent and reasons besides your relationship with your fiance to move to the states, this may be reason to question the validity of your relationship. This wouldn't be a difficult hurdle to overcome if your intentions are completely valid.

Good luck! Hopefully someone can offer you some personal experiences.

I agree with the last statement of proving your relationship a little more thoroughly. Quite possible, USCIS may deem the K-1 application as an attempt to "get you there quicker." Or it may go completely in your favour and you'll be approved with no problems. Just be prepared for a longer wait with the I-129F, just in case.

Best of luck!

Not really sure if this is the same thing or not, but when I went to my interview, Tim labeled my marital status as divorced, when I'm actually widowed. She either didn't notice or didn't care. And that's a biggie I think!!

And they took my original BC, the death certificate, and a copy of my divorce papers, ( which I was told was possible she may want an original one, because it was from 1991; she didn't of course). She made copies of all of them, and gave me back the originals.

Do whatever it takes to get your mind off it!! Work; making sure everything is ready for the interview, deciding what your bringing, and how your shipping it, your wedding plans....and if it's in your budget and schedule, plans some trips with family and friends. Have a great time with them, because, sadly, it may be a while till you see them again after you move. Enjoy every minute you have left in this Country. CanadaFavourite Tim Horton's story
Well, my favourite memory of Timmies, is from several years ago, when my husband was still alive. Back when they made all their doughnuts, and things at store level. We'd go into there often, usually for double doubles, and maybe a doughnut, and got to know the people there. There was one worker that we got to know well.

Once when we went in, we ordered cheesecake with our coffee, and joked about taking the whole thing. She said we could buy it, I think it was something crazy like $10 or so, and she'd put what ever doughnut filling on it. You can bet we bought a lot of cheesecakes back then!! ( I got a little fat out of the deal laughing.gif)

But then, our happy ending had to come to an end, because they stopped making everything at the store, and had it all shipped in... crying.gif Course....was good to see my waistline again laughing.gif

As much as I love double doubles, I really don't go there much since Jim died. So even though there isn't one where I live, I think I can survive. Not a lot of "coffee" drinkers down South!

Now...mention sweet tea to them..... tongue.gif

QUOTE (borderdriver @ Jun 9 2009, 08:38 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
At the interview, they will ask you where tim works, how much he makes, any assets?.... i freaked out about this too b/c i didnt have I134 as it wasnt on the checklist but i brought as much evidences from my husband that we are over the poverty line (ie. pay stubs, letter from employer) and that was sufficient for them. So if you have money in the bank, then that's a bonus.

the reason they ask you this and want to make sure that you're over the poverty line (and may request I134) is to make sure that you're eligible to be approved for I-864 ... that's what the lady from consulate told me.

Thanks Borderdriver! I know Tim falls short $3000, ( a huge chunk yes...)...but from what I've read he only needs 3x the amount in assets and his IRA is almost double for that! *whew*. Plus, as I've said earlier, I do have my house. His is completely paid for too. So technically, if we had to, we could sell it too, and buy something cheaper, (condo etc) because he has no mortgage either. This I know...I WON'T need assistance of any kind. I've lived below my means for so long on my own...(with no government help) that I really don't know what my means are!

Ok...I'll just go to that interview and SMILE!! Gotta act confident!! star_smile.gif

CanadaAnyone waiting for an interview at the Vancouve Embassy?
Hoping someone will come by with an answer for me.....

Taken from my instructions on the check list for the Consulate

"EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT: K1 and K3 applicants are subjects to INA 212(a)(4) and must demonstrate to the consulate
officer?s satisfaction that they will not become a public charge. Applicants may submit a letter from the petitioner?s
employer or evidence that they will be self-supporting. The Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, may be required when the consular officer deems it useful."

Ok...the self supporting issue. I'm confused. I have a house to sell, and I don't have a mortgage, so my pocket change is going to be pretty healthy. And obviously, I won't be spending it all in a month!! I was planing on bringing evidence that I own my home, and what it's worth, and that I'm selling it.

Just curious as to whether or not that would be accepted. I'll have the 1-134, and all Tim's information, (his assets, etc.) But it did state that form MAY be required. Feeling like Alice in wonderland here...."curiouser, and curiouser...."

Even though I did not serve any jail time and paid a $225 fine. After getting back to my cousin's place I printed off the laws regarding it in the jurisdiction regarding sentencing, class of misdemeanors and maximum sentences based on those regarding my conviction, which was no where near 1 year, try MAX 30 days. Anyways I will be bringing that with me tomorrow when I drop off my medical results if she says she still did not have "time" to look it up. So I guess I will know more tomorrow. sad.gif
