CanadaHOOOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY

Our Father, who art in GM Place, hockey be thy name. Thy will be done, GOLD to be WON on ICE as well as IN THE STANDS. Give us this day, our hockey sticks, and forgive us our penalties, as we forgive those who crosscheck against us. Lead us not into elimination, but deliver us to victory, in the name of the fans,... CANADA, and the HOLY PUCK. AMEN!

I've also seen it, (in case no one else has) with the ending of ...."the fans, CANADA, and the goalie host"....

CanadaNot digging the new look
I may be pulling my chair up to dinner a little late with this..but I noticed that the "reputation" thing in the profiles is gone. Mine is anyways..any one else notice that?

Oh and Kathryn...nice to see your face again!! ( although Lion and Bear were cute too!)
TimandJoyceFemaleCanada2010-03-17 16:35:00
CanadaNot digging the new look

I was noticing today that profile pages now seem a lot easier to read and navigate. Before I never used the comment feature because it was really weird and tucked away. Someone could comment and you wouldn't even notice it for weeks! Now you can't miss it. So I give that feature a thumbs up.

As far as the actual forums, I'm finding that the wide-screen computer and all the text is starting to bother me. My husband has a really big monitor, so I find myself getting lost in the long sea of text. Maybe it will look better on my laptop...

All I ever use is my lap top...course I also have that "mini" by Dell, so maybe that's why it looks good still. I can't imagine the wide screen. ( had one back home, I sure miss it!)

It is different that's for sure. I just hope VJ isn't like FB and changes every two weeks!!

Oh..and that rating thing? Yeah, I can see it getting out of hand. Maybe that's why I tend to stick with all the Canucks!! It's very hard sometimes to say what you really want to say, in a written form, and people can't hear the "tone" of your voice, so sometimes some posts could sound like bad advice, ( mind you, I have read some loo-loo's ) but the advice isn't bad, just misinterpreted. I feel like in this forum, we can be more understanding, and try to read between the lines before we answer. ( then again..sometimes it's just bad advice! *giggles*)

*standing back and waiting for all the minuses*....Oh!! I wonder, if someone has lots of "negative" reports on their post, does that mean they get a talking too or something?

CanadaCheap calls to Canada and USA
That's what Tim used. Before, you couldn't use it out of the US and it cost 2 cents/minute for him to call me, but now it's the same for both countries!! :dancing: Which is very handy when calling family back home. It works great!

CanadaWhy all the fuss about the 2010 Census

I'm going to assume most people will know exactly how many people will be in their house in 2 weeks, unless they are pregnany and expecting sometime really soon, or if something unfortunate should happen, and therefore they can fill it out and send it out ahead of time based on the knowledge that random people aren't going to suddenly be living in their closets.

 that's good Danu!!

I filled out ours, didn't take long at all. We got the short form too. And in 10 years, should we both still be alive..the answers will be the same...(except the age part...)

CanadaPlants
hi Marisp.

Since I was flying from BC to SC, I just gave my plants to my son, so I really don't have much advice to give you. I hope you find your answers, and it all works out for you. :)

CanadaPOE @ Pearson
Sounds as if the POE was nice and painless, but the mailing out of the visa cost more with the changing of the airline plans..

Have a fantastic time in Miami!

CanadaProof of meeting in person
Best wishes!! Hope you get everything together quickly and be able to get on with the process. The receipts will be great, especially if you both have them, to show you were in the same town, same time...:)

CanadaGood News!

He starts next Tuesday. He's working for an agency who placed him in a Computer Operating job near King of Prussia, PA. Hopefully his card will be in before that, but if not, I'm sure they can come to some sort of arrangement.

 I thought you said "the King of Russia!!!" Oh boy...

I'm sure it will all work out with the card. If not, he'll have a great first paycheque!

CanadaMy Interview at the Montreal Consulate
Congratulations! Loved the review. It's always so much nicer when you can laugh with the consular. Plus it sounds as if the two of you were confident, as you had everything you may have needed.

May you have an outstanding POE, and safe journey home!

CanadaFor those who have been in the U.S. for awhile...
Ugh..homesickness. Hits me hard sometimes...( you know..just feeling blue, and crying for no reason) and other times it's gradual. Course I think the biggie is because my only child is getting married in October, and I'm not there to help him :( Not that he probably needs it, but hey!! I'm a mother! I also have other family, and many friends I left behind. (oh, and the ocean view in front of me, and the mountains behind!)

I haven't found a job yet, but I've been looking. Although a large enough town, really doesn't seem like a whole lot of opportunity here for people with little skills. I'd like to apply for police dispatcher, but need to do an english/math assessment test first. I may just look into some courses and see what's available as well.

Ummmm how embarrassing.. I've definitely gained weight! I actually started before I moved down, as I was so busy packing and getting ready to sell my house, that I wasn't eating healthy enough. Too many "quick" meals that are full of the "bad" carbs. Silly me..I know better too. I still can't get over the fact that one year ago..I was over 20 lbs LESS than what I am now! And it's sad, but I don't really live in good walking territory, otherwise I'd be out everyday. I just might have to make it good territory anyways. I really need a better routine. Not working sure does change things up a lot.
TimandJoyceFemaleCanada2010-03-29 10:13:00
CanadaProof of ongoing relationship..
I interviewed at Vancouver, and she did ask me for proof and when I handed her the stack of pic's I had, she glanced at the top one and that satisfied her. If I remember correctly it's the one I have on my profile page... She didn't ask for anything else, even though I brought lots!

My advice would be to have everything organized so you can find it fast. I had three decorative folders with me. The kind you buy at Walmart for less than a dollar, in the stationary section. I had one for relationship, one for medical, one for financial, and when she asked anything concerning any part of that, I knew what folder to go to right away. I really think that impressed her, and the fact I was confident in my answers. I don't know about Montreal, but at my interview it was all basic questions. Best wishes for your interview!

 @ Reven!!"I'm not planning to bring any proof of relationship except my hubby and my pregnant belly, lol." Yep..I think that's probably proof enough for ya!
TimandJoyceFemaleCanada2010-03-29 12:53:00
CanadaConsulate nearest to my fiancee?
She'll definitely have to go to Montreal. Depending on what time of year her interview is...could be a nice little trip! :)

CanadaCanadian Male - US Female - Want to marry soon!

As others have posted, we chose to get married in the US where we knew we could get our marriage certificate quickly. We married in North Carolina, took the marriage license directly to the county office and had two notarized copies in a matter of minutes. As Pauley posted I understand the wait in Ontario can be months!

When I crossed into the US heading to NC all I said was that I was travelling there for vacation which was true; we just happened to get married during that week :) I had every intention of returning to Canada; I had a job to return to and my children were with me.

I did not discover VJ unitl a few months after submitting my I-130 applicaton otherwise I might have been more nervous crossing the border.

Ignorance is bliss. :innocent:

Wow, so true!! When I went to see Tim before, and always said "boyfriend" I was never questioned about if we were planning marriage, and they never wanted to see proof of ties,( good thing, I never had anything with me)..but after starting K-1, ( and found VJ about a month or so after we sent it in) wow...I was so worried about crossing!! LOL so silly, considering Canadian/American crossing isn't that hard to do usually.

SC is quick marriage license too. :)

Best wishes for whatever journey you travel on. Hope you keep us updated.

Have a Happy Easter everyone!! Hope you all have a great weekend! :)

CanadaHad enough..
wow Coralie...so sorry. I hate red tape. I really hope you hear good news soon. It just has to turn around for you. What kind of feeling did you get at the interview? Did they at least give you some positive hope? If they did...hang on! AP sucks...but maybe it's almost through it's course..
TimandJoyceFemaleCanada2010-03-31 08:20:00
CanadaIs it an AMERICAN thing???

I'll have to see, since I'll be in SC in a week.

 Cool! If you DO hear it anywhere, let me know where! I really haven't heard it around this place. It might be used in Charleston a little more. Probably not Myrtle Beach.

But now that it's been brought to my attention...my ears are going to be perked up to it!

I also call women "miss" I've done it for years. When I worked at Curves, and members came in to do their workout, I'd say "good morning miss (name)" Most of the ladies laughed, and only about one or two were offended!
TimandJoyceFemaleCanada2010-04-04 07:31:00
CanadaIs it an AMERICAN thing???

I am from the South and I have always heard it here.

I wonder if South Carolina is on the "edge" of the South.. I actually haven't heard "miss" around here, but have been called ma'am a lot of times, and mostly by friends of mine!

CanadaTim Horton's Coffee Song!
That was so funny! Can't wait to go back in October and get me a double double!

I loved 'We stand on guard for Canada but we line up for thee!"

 I do too. Plus the bit about how we get mad in line up in traffic, but no problem when were waiting for the coffee! And that's the truth! I remember those lines!
