Australia and New ZealandAustralian Beneficiaries - Packet 3 to Interview date
Congrats to all the newly married ladies - good luck with the AOS. My package is no longer MIA and finally on its way to NVC. I am checking constantly to make sure it no longer gets lost. There goes my April interview. Best we can hope for is May now.

Terri - congrats ... hope your son is doing well.

I emailed the Consulate to ask about the maiden v married name thing. Our petition was filed in my married name but because my passport is in my maiden name, that is the name they have used. By the time my file reaches the Consulate I will have legally changed my name and a new passport issued. For anyone else who is wondering - as long as ALL your Police Clearances are done in both your maiden and married names, they will do all the changes at interview time because the visa will be issued in the name that is in the passport.

Hope you're all well ... :star:

We did run off to Vegas and Elvis walked me down the aisle.

Deluxe Wedding Package - $450
Wedding Dress (T J Maxx) - $20 and I wore thongs. They were black that makes them dressy ones.
Story to tell the grandkids - Priceless

So glad I did not have the stress of you ladies.

Hey gang, got my photos done, alas, it cuts off the top of my head, do you reckon this will be a problem.

As an aside, went to the cricket today, amazing, I'm going to miss that!

Me too. The husband doesn't even know what Cricket is.

A Q if anyone could help - I was copying my passport yesterday with my entry stamps and noticed that my latest stamp has an entry date but no expiry like the others. I think the I-94 was stamped because I remember it when I pulled it out when I left. This won't be a problem, will it and it might not even be noticed, right? Am I stressing over nothing because I have already handed in my I-94. It's just weird.

Australia and New ZealandAustralian Beneficiaries - Packet 3 to Interview date
I should also add - at POE (LAX) I had no problems. No questioning apart from visiting Friends & Family (that I had ticked on the I-94). That was it. I still had my letter from work and house details etc. But did not need it. It was easier actually than any other time. Could be they were busy with Xmas rush and all, not sure but I pulled a really great CBP Officer.

I've just flown V Australia and they were fantastic. Although, the food on the way back sucked a bit (must be the catering from the US side) because all they had was half & half. Come on!! (Also Continental were great).

Ms Nat - hope you're settling in OK. :star:

Vanessa - thanks for the info. I have been checking the timelines but it was a given considering that Rosa's petition was for a K1 it would be approved before mine. I'm under instructions from the husband to NOT check this site anymore.

Do they charge in NSW? I received a bill for $177 from Qld Pathology. Would have been nice for my GP to let me know this before hand!

I didn't have to pay for mine at QML Pathology. It was all bulk billed.

I got there about 7.30 for my 8am and was all done and out by 9.00 so was pretty quick really.

Pretty standard questions

- have you been to the US?
- Have you meet her family & has she meet yours?
she looked at some of my extra photos from our recent holiday on the Gold Coast.

Hope everyone else has an easy and quick process.

Hey guys, in regards to the Affidavit of Support - I keep freaking out about it a little. Alex makes more than double what 125 percent of the poverty line is for this year, and with his assets as well, he more than covers it. He has also worked at the same company for six years. When I was a student in the US, I had a small wage and my parents helped me with a little money each month, but he pretty much supported us both anyway. But the back of my mind keeps thinking the consular officer is going to grill me on the financials particular, especially because we are both young. Am I being a worry wart and letting this process get to me? Tell me to chill, please!

Yes, I think you are being a worry wart. tongue.gif I don't think you have anything to be worried about if Alex is earning more than double what 125% of the poverty line is. He has the means to support you regardless of both your age.

I had my medical exam with Dr Yates today. Astrid, basically it went the same as yours.

I did my urine test first and then waited about 10 minutes to see the doctor. We went through the vaccination sheet and the questions on the medical exam worksheet. Then he asked me to undress to my underwear and he checked my weight and height, gave me the Boostrix and MMR vaccines. Then he listened to my breath/lungs and heart (from my back and front), did a breast exam, pressed around on my belly, took my blood sample and then asked if I had any ankle problems. I sat up he tapped my knee to test my reflex, check in my ears, eyes and open my mouth and say ahh.

Next came the part which I thought was a bit weird....he asked me to stand up turn towards the wall bend over and touch my toes (butt towards him and all I'm wearing is my underwear. #######??) blink.gif I did it quickly without really thinking about it but then I started to think about it.....was he checking out my butt??? I can't think why it was necessary to turn around and bend over infront of him (standing about 2m away). Couldn't he have seen if I could touch my toes when I'm facing him? Does anyone know if there was a legitimate reason for this? I then had to stand on my toes and turn back towards him, squat, stand up and raise my arms above my head which I guess was all to see if i had any injuries/problems. I got dressed and then he asked me to read the bottom row on the eye chart (don't need to be nearly naked for that). He told me everything was all good and the exam was over. Then I went and got my x-ray done.

Everything was done in about 1.25 hours and all up it cost me $541 (exam, x-ray, blood test $466, MMR $30 & Boostrix $45). Now I just have to wait to get the results which should be Friday (maybe) or Monday.

Hmmm...that does sound really weird. Why did he get you to do all that bending over and stuff? I didn't have to do that. I think unless you had a prior injury or problem like arthritis or something, there isn't a need to do that. And you can tell what someone's movement is like with clothes on. My trainer at my gym got me to do similar things like that to see what my flexibility and posture was like, and I did in my street clothes!

I really think it's not needed for us to be near-naked for the whole exam. The more I think about it, the more it weirds me out. I actually feel kind of dirty. Have any male VJ'ers gone to see Dr Yates? Can you tell us about your experiences? I swear, if the guys don't have to be undressed for it, I am going to flip my lid.

#######?? We have to go see him too. If he makes my 9yo do weird stuff - I'm gonna flippen lose it. I would also be interested to hear from any male VJer's who have had to see him.

Kaffy - if you drop in, is he the same one you had to see and did he make you do this as well??

Hello everyone - I know this has been a gazillion times and I've read everything (even d/loaded P3 forms from Consulate's website) but for the original docs that required, are they the petitioner's and beneficiary's or beneficiary's only?

What docs are needed at NVC stage? I will be over there in 3 weeks and want to take him what he will need and have him give me what I will need. Has anyone had an issue with custody papers? My daughter's father is not listed on her BC and there are no custody papers. No child support or anything. There has been no contact. For all intents and purposes, he is unknown. It wasn't an issue when obtaining her passport just wondering how the US Consulate will process this. Do I still need to have the family court issue an order? Thanks in advance.

Hey Terri - I've decided to leave the police check until after Xmas and the medical will also wait for P3. How are you finding it so far?

Hey everyone,

Finally I have some good news to share, NVC have our approved petition. YAY!!!!!!!! I'm soooo happy and relieved right now!! kicking.gif

My fiance received a letter from USCIS on Saturday saying our petition had been sent to NVC (we didn't get our hopes up though). So I call NVC tonight (first thing this morning US time) and they confirmed they received our petition on Friday the 13th (not such a day of bad luck for us smile.gif). I had to contain my excitement while I was on the phone, I was jumping with joy on the inside.

We still have no idea why it took almost 8 weeks to get there but I'm not concerned about that anymore. NVC have our file and that is such a weight off our minds. I guess all our persistence and harassing USCIS to locate our file finally payed off. Fingers crossed that we don't go into AP and there are not more problems for the rest of our journey.

Side note to the Aussie girls changing their names after marriage - if you do it within the first year of marriage it's FREE so.. saving of like $200. I don't know about my UK passport though. It's about to expire anyway.. ugh.. more money.

Hey Vanessa do you have more info on this? I've been married nearly 3 years and still havent changed my name in Australia yet (I use my married name as my legal name here though).

I tried doing it back in Aus (after we had married and before we moved to the US) but the QLD BDM registry gave me the run around saying that they couldnt accept my o/s marriage certificate and that I would have to file a legal name change... which I had to wait 12 months for since I had to re-establish residency.
We ended up moving over to the US one day before I reached that residency requirement so I emailed the Aussie Embassy here as to how to go about doing it. Come to find out they CAN accept o/s marriage certificates... but since I'm an Aussie citizen through naturalization I would have to change my name on that first, THEN submit a name change for my passport - such a PITA!

Since I have to present original documents I will probably do it in person when I am in DC next year. If there is a simpler way I would love to hear!!

thanks

Hey Kaffy - I tried as well (a naturalised Australian) and there is no other way so I will do the Qld BDM legal name change while I am still living here. I sure would like an easier way too as it takes them at least 6 weeks to process (unless you pay extra of course). The whole proving residency is a PITA!

For the Qld police clearance - best to wait for a case number. I rang Qld Police and on the application it asks if you want it to be sent directly to a Consulate - you tick yes and specify which Consulate. Apparently they have a register of all the Consulates and they will notify you once it is sent. So there goes getting it done now, I will be waiting until we have the NVC number too ... mad.gif

Thanks all

It is getting so close,

p.s has anyone had police report done in QLD? do they send you a notice when they forward it to the consulate?

Jason

I went to have mine done (but didn't for the same reason as the others) they will send it directly to you or the address you specify on the application, but the Consulate's website states that for Qld it gets sent directly to the Consulate. So now I am confused and have not had a response to an email I sent to the Consulate querying this. Hope someone knows the answer ... if it does get sent to directly to the Consulate, do we then wait for a Case #? blink.gif

The consulate's website says that NSW and QLD police check are sent directly to the consulate.

What part of Brissie are you in? I'm in the Indooroopilly area. Like Vanessa said, it's not a problem if you get the police cert sent to yourself, because thats how the other states do it. So, I would go head and get it, if you are nearing the time that you should get a NOA2.
When you called Anzac Medical, did they give you a rough idea of the cost of the exam?

Oh, and when did you file? If you fill in your timeline you can see when you can expect a decision on your case!

I'm out near Redbank....not very far from where you are. We sent our petition in late May or early June, we received NOA1 on 16 June and NOA2 on 21 Sept (5 weeks ago) but NVC haven't received our documents. We've tried calling and asking where our documents are at but they've just told us we need to wait. It's frustrating because I don't see how it could take 5 weeks for it to be sent to NVC. I'm starting to wonder whether our documents have been lost or something. We just saw on USCIS that they have a help line for military members, so first thing on Monday we're going to call because I want some answers! mad.gif

I totally forgot to ask how much the medical exam cost when I called. I was more concerned in finding out how long it would take to get an appointment because I've seen on here that doctors other states can take weeks.

Ahhh, so I take it you also enjoy the fun that is the Ipswich train line, lol. That sucks about your case being in limbo, there is no rhyme or reason for it, and when you ask, there is no answer! I wonder if they can even comprehend how our lives are hanging on their decisions and actions? I bet they don't, not until they are in our shoes. Maybe get your Fiance to contact his state's Senator to get things moving along, in addition to calling the military help line?
I am guessing the medical is going to be at least a few hundred sad.gif I am going to call them tomorrow and ask them, and then book it when I have the funds. Police check is first up for me, because I am thinking it is going to take the longest. Good luck getting some answers from USCIS!

Australia and New ZealandBlood Test for Vaccinations
Here is a link to the schedule that I used. It is 2010 but I don't think the requirements have changed since then. The titre testing can be expensive because it's not covered by Medicare. It cost $186 and my GP had the results in 7 days. I also made sure the panel physician in Brisbane would take my GP's results before I had it done just in case they would want to do it themselves.

I needed the MMR, tetanus booster and the flu shot. The others weren't age appropriate. The MMR was free because apparently everyone is entitled to a free booster based on age, the flu shot was $20 and the tetanus was $40. I can't remember exactly which two I had together but I know that I couldn't have all 3 at the same time for some reason. Hope that helps!

Australia and New ZealandWhere to get US size passport photos in AUS?
I used Aus sized ones for the medical, as mentioned above they do need to be recent (within last 6 months I think).

Australia and New ZealandDriving and insurance
Insurance is different. I was added to the policy as soon as I arrived. We moved to NY 6 weeks later. You can drive on your Aus licence for 3 months. NY state considers you a resident after 6 months. Learners permit, driver ed class and road test to get a licence. We have to start over.
