How long did it take for you to get your medical?
Also - was the police station available for the check on the weekend?

Australia and New ZealandShipping to the US

I was wondering if anyone has experience of shipping smallish boxes of clothes to the US and the most economical way to do it. I'm considering using Australia post surface mail but even that is around $150 for a 15kg box. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

Hey there,

I do recall seeing somewhere in the forum to try pack and send?

Hope that helps and let me know how you go!

Australia and New ZealandVictoria Police Check

Hi, just wondering if someone can help me out with this! I called up Victoria Police about making an appointment for fingerprinting, and... I am so confused now. First of all, she said that the city appointments were all booked out until next January! The closest appointment I could get was for October 17th, in their regional office at Seymour - which I think is about a 90 minute drive from Melbourne. Then she said that she wasn't sure what form I needed to get, and she told me that I didn't need the fingerprinting that costs around $150, which was for 'security people', but that my fingerprinting check would be free. Which seems contradictory to some of the posts of other people I've read here. She also said that she thought I should be dealing with AFP (Australian Federal Police) instead of Victoria Police. Well I'm pretty sure I just followed the links that the embassy website gave for getting the police check things done, and ended up at the Victoria Police site.

I think I'm just confused, anyway, so if anyone has some advice/clarification, I'd appreciate it so much.

Oh, and I remember people mentioning that you can expedite the police check process. How do you do that? I asked if she could give me an earlier appointment but she just said n

Riss

funnily enough, i just did my fingerprinting today, however, i'm in queensland. You NEED the fingerprinting done. AFP only deals with certain states (I think ACT), or they will refer you onto your state police. This lady is clearly misinformed. Try calling a different police station for clarification.

Australia and New ZealandContacting the Consulate in Sydney

Thanks! I've just sent them an email, hopefully I'll hear back from the soon! One to sydneyiv@state.gov and one to support-australia@ustraveldocs.com Got both those addresses from the Consulate website. The second address I received an email back straight away with a link to cgifederal.secure.force.com and a password to create an account where I can create a profile and login and track the status of a Visa application.

Hey,

I read somewhere that you can only contact them for visa immigration issues Friday 9-12. I dont know wether this is correct but I do recall reading it on a forum here.

Good Luck!

Australia and New ZealandFew questions about K-1 embassy stage...
Also when you have your medical are there lots of appointments available when you ring or should you ring wayyy in advance? Im in QLD. Also do you need to turn up to it with a vaccination record from your GP, and does your GP have on record ALL vaccinations in your life, ones that you got in high school and stuff? Because I got some vaccines in school but I'm not sure is the government automatically puts that data onto your doctors records or whatever. And if anyone can give me a list of all the vaccines you have to have completed for the medical, like which ones the US government requires you to have done to approve the medical would be good to know And do you pay the medical by card when you get to it?

Just regarding the above. As far as I know, you can not book that medical appointment until you have a case ID. I know some people say that they have had that opportunity down in Melbourne but havn't heard anythign differnet for the Brisbane Medical centre (please let me know if you find out otherwise).

With your vaccines, my suggestion would be to talk to your GP. No the government doesn't put it on your record, however, what you can do is a blood test to confirm what you may or may not need eventually. The list of vaccinations is at the following link. http://travel.state..../info_1331.html

Good luck

I read somewhere that you do not need to bring your x ray to the interview, however, you WILL need to bring them to the USA once you move over.

Hey Guys,

Just thinking ahead on when I actually move over (fingers crossed I hear from Sydney soon).

My mobile phone plan has just finished and my iPhone 4 is still in really good nick. Is it worth me bringing it over to the States and use it over there once I move? Or will it be better to just get a new phone on a plan?

I'm not sure how the CDMA/GSM stuff works.

Australia and New ZealandMedical Exam before NOA2

Actually the Brisbane medical does physically hand you the results to mail to the consulate yourself with packet 3. I prepared by getting serology results of my previous vaccinations and Dr Yates was happy to receive them, which he slipped into the medical file. One thing my doctors hadn't given me was the second varicella vaccine which was given to me during the medical.

You are correct in saying you need the case number for Brisbane because they will not book you in for the medical without it, even if you manage to they won't hand it over without the case number on the sealed documents.

Thankyou for clarifying this! So you have to go pick these up or can they send this out to you?

Australia and New ZealandMedical Exam before NOA2

Thanks for the info, I was planning to try to get all these things done so there would be no hold up later.

So it is the actual doctor that will need the case number then? If I am good to go with them will I also need clearance from the embassy? Do you know how long the medical results are valid for?

Thanks mate

David

Ah that is good to know. Thank you! Do you know if there is a site or something where I can get all the information I need re the exam and how long it is valid for etc...??

Thanks again.

David

Hey,

The reason the doctor needs the case number is they (again, I'm speaking from Brisbane) do not hand you the results. They send directly through to the Consulate and need this case number to marry it up to your case - if there are any more reasons I'm sure someone can clarify further. I know that a couple of people in Melbourne are able to have their medical exams done without a case number and are then handed the results directly to take to the consulate themselves in Sydney.

I thought to get a headstart and talk to my GP about my immunisation records to provide to the medical clearance. I'm not sure wether this will be helpful but I figured a couple less needles to have stuck into me is a bonus! (Although from my research on here, it's not a requirement to have your immunisation up to date before leaving the country. This can be finalised over in the states.)

I have included the below link for your perusal. Might be able to clarify some things further for you.

Cheers!

Australia and New ZealandMedical Exam before NOA2

Hi Guys,

I am from Australia and I am waiting on my NOA2 for my K1 visa (timeline estimate is early November) I am making a trip to Sydney for work later this month and it would save me a lot of time and trouble if I could get my medical done when I am in Sydney. My question is would I be able to complete my medical before receiving my NOA2 or do I need to wait for that or packets 3 and 4? Also, how long would be medical results be valid for before they expire?

Thanks so much for your time.

David

Mate,

From what I've read on the forum you will need your Case number in order to have the medical performed. (I'm in QLD and read Brissy wouldn't take appts unless they had this so other NSW filers might be able to give you a more definitive answer).

This is no biggie. Once you receive the NOA2, give it a week or two for NVC to process then, you can have your fiance or yourself contact NVC and see wether you have been assigned a case file number. (This should be something like :- SYD XXXXXXX....)

Once you have you're case file number, you should be good to go to book your medical - I'm sure other VJers will be able to clarify.

Might I also make a suggestion... Go do your Police Check - the one WITH fingerprints as these can take a while to process.

Hope this was helpful and goodluck!

Australia and New ZealandPolice Check before NVC?

Get it done now and out of the way. You do not need the NVC Case number in order to do this. Depending on your state, you can either go online to apply for the police clearance or walk into your closest station( QLD) jsut make sure you request the one WITH fingerprints. Aussie ones are valid for 12 months I'm sure.

Oh PS

I did mine early no hassles at all - apart from them doing it the old school way with ink. haha

Australia and New ZealandDS2301

I have a quick question too, if no one minds. The information on the DS 230 that I sent off some weeks ago has now changed. The address that I put for where I intend to live in the USA has changed, as my partner is, as I type, moving back down to Montana from Alaska. Once he arrives next week, he will call the USCIS or lodge a change of address form online. Should I wait until the interview to notify the Embassy of the change or send them an email now to explain?

Thanks

Hey,so I emailed Sydney in a panic and they were pretty ok with it. They just said to bring the amended form to the interview. No biggie. If you're uncomfortable with that, email the consulate directly. They are really good at getting back to you. sydneyiv@state.gov

I am such a ####. So whilst I was filing away my paperwork today, I noticed that the DS2301 form that I had sent off to the Sydney Consulate has two errors.

2. Question 33 - One of my previous employment does not have a termination date.

Anyone know how to rectify this?

Australia and New ZealandMedical

Thanks for this info- I had wondered what was involved and am glad I have a heads up on some of the more personal parts!

Congratulations on the worst parts being over! Do you have an interview date yet?

Hey Lovely,

I'm glad it was of some help to some people. I myself wondered as to what they do that costs so dang much!

I made small chat with the doctor, as you do when you're doing awkward medical things, and the requirements they had to meet in order to be able to do the medical was pretty stringent hence, why he could charge so much ($456)

Well, now, I'm just waiting for some documents from the fiance and the results of the medical. Once I receive these final documents, I'm able to send off my packet 3 and be advised of my interview dates (fingers crossed start of December).

How is your journey coming along?

Australia and New ZealandMedical
So I just did my medical at Anzac Square Medical with Dr Yates.

The practise itself is underneath Central station in the Brisbane CBD and Sofitel hotel (The bottom of the escalators at the Ann Street entrance).

They were very professional and I felt very comfortable with the Doctor.

As soon as you turn up, they will confirm that you've paid the $100 deposit and ask you for the following:

1. Passport
2. 3 x passport photos
3. SYD case number
4. Vaccination records

They will then provide you with a specimen jar to provide a urine sample. You have to go up 3 escalators and use the restrooms in the Sofitel hotel lobby.

The Doctor asked me to sign a couple of sheets, and date them using the American way (Month/Day/Year).

He then proceeded to go through my vaccination records and check off some boxes on a sheet as well as asking some generic questions such as, known diseases, history of depression, heart problems, drinking/recreational drug taking.

After this, you strip down to your underwear, he took weight/height blood pressure then listened to lungs and heart with a stethescope. After this, if your a lady, he asks you to take your bra off to examine your breasts for lumps and checks your tummy and in the general hip area for hernias (Had to do the cough thing). He did say straight up, I will ahve to examine your breasts and offered a chaperone.

After doing all this, they do the reflex test on the knees make you squat, bend over and touch your toes, wave your arms over your head and then finally an eye test! (At this point I did have clothes on so nothing untoward)

After saying, 'yup, you're all good', I fixed up the rest of the bill ($356 because I didn't need any immunisations)and then the ladies gave me directions for the blood test and x-ray. This is done on Queen street, so 2 x streets over and not a very far walk. They send these directly back to Anzac Medical.

Anzac Medical will then contact me when the results are ready to be picked up. They also offered to post it out to me for an extra $15 but I declined seeing as I work just in the Valley and it's just as easy for me to pick it up (I'll ahve to park in Sofitel or catch a train).

Hope this helps someone and gives them an idea as to what to expect!

Good luck everyone on their VJ.

Fantastic!!! You'll be there for Christmas. I hope you don't mind but I think I'll copy you and send them an email too. I know they only got my Pkt 3 this week, but I guess it can't hurt to give it a try. I so want the kids and I to be there for Christmas, it will be a huge task ahead of me to prepare....garage sale, moving out of the house etc.... but I've never shied away from a challenge. Already sold the car, the kids and I have loved walking to school and to the shops this past week, makes me feel that I have been very lazy in the past using my car so much.

I dont think I'll make it for Christmas. The reason being is my interview is exactly a week before Christmas and I dont feel comfortable booking my flights until I get my visa in hand.

Hey all!

This is a silly question but I think the waiting is driving me loopy.

What e-mail address does the Packet 4 get sent to? Is it:

a) Email on the email authorisation form
b) Original Packet 3 email.

The reason I ask this is our original Packet 3 email was sent to my fiance's email who never checked his email as we were expecting the Packet 3 to be forwarded through to myself and my lawyer said he never recieved it either. It wasn't until I chased them up did I get the Packet 3 (I was so freaking angry that was an extra 3 week delay).

Thanks in advance everyone!

Australia and New ZealandNSW police check before NOA2

Hey Guys,

We are still waiting for our NOA2 and we are trying to do as many things as we can before we get our approval. I just did my medical and I am now onto the police check. I live in NSW and I was hoping some people may be able to answer a few questions for me.

Firstly, Does anyone know if there could be a problem doing my police check before we have our NOA2? Is it OK to have it done before the approval or should we wait until we get it for some reason?

Also, Can someone tell me which form I would need and where I can download it from? Do I bring it with me or will they have it at my local police station?

Any other tips or things I may have missed would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for your time guys!

Australia and New ZealandGetting Medical Done before NOA2

Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone in Australia has recently completed their medical before receiving their NOA2. My fiance and I are anxious to have everything ready to go for packet 3 as soon as it arrives. Thank y'all for all the help, this website is amazing!!!

Hey There,

Where in Australia is your beneficiary? The reason I ask this is dependent on where they are located, some doctors allow for you to book without the case number. If not, the only way to really get in as quick as possible is to contact NVC a week after you receive your NOA2 so that you can request your case number (Should look something like SYDXXXXXXXX) With this number, you are able to call up and book your medical.

That being said, when I booked mine, they just asked whether I had received one, however, I didn't have to tell them what it was until the actual day of.

My suggestion to you is if you really want to get ahead of the game, get onto the police clearance as some people have waited up to 6 weeks for their copy.
Have the petitioner fill and send out an I-485 with supporting evidence - (They need an original signature).
Also start collecting more evidence to support your ongoing relationship to submit with your Packet 3.
Adrian_TrischaFemaleAustralia2013-03-11 19:27:00
Australia and New Zealandform DS-3025??

It's a copy of your vaccination checklist. If the doctor never gave you one then just ask them when you have your interview because it will be in the sealed package. This is important because you will need it during AOS.

As above. You need to submit a copy of this vaccination checklist with your I-485 petition to adjust your status.

Australia and New ZealandGood social site/forum in Australia and USA?

To have my OT career in USA, as an OT graduate from Sydney Uni 2001-2004, I really need to connect to people who studied Occupational Therapy in Sydney University from 2001-recent and is wanting or already registered to work in USA. SOOOOOO hard to find them. I looked everywhere online, Linkedin (not sure how to use it fully and i'm not paying for membership), some forums, indeed (somehow helpful). There just doesn't seem to be a place where they connect or gather.

NBCOT is too strict now and you can't talk to anyone for answers, just general email answers. My uni is so bad, I can't believe it, such a big reputable university.

I was able to connect to 20 of my former classmates on Facebook but they don't have the documents I need.

what's a good Aussie forum that has general discussions on things? looking for people? or medical related fields? Lots of traffic is a must.

What is a good USA forum that has a lot of traffic on a broad range of topics?

Please let me know, thank you!~~~~

I'm not sure if this is any help to you but there is a site called Studentdoctor.net You may be able to find someone who can help you on the forums.

Australia and New ZealandPaying visa fee (before interview)

Hi all, can I have some advice on paying the visa fee?  I got an email from the consulate telling me the date my appointment had been scheduled for and giving me the link to the ustraveldocs site to sort out payment.  So i've found my way to this page:  http://www.ustraveld...paymentinfo.asp    Is that the right place?

It has all these instructions, I'm supposed to register a profile online and then I can go and pay (I think I'll just pay at Australia Post seeing as I've got to go there to buy the 3kg envelope anyway), and it also says that once you've paid, then you 'schedule your appointment' online.  My question is, don't I already have a scheduled appointment?  Do I just put in the date and time that I've been given, into the system, and that confirms it or something?

Thanks in advance, biggrin.png

Riss

Hey Riss,

I paid mine online. I went to my local post office and they had no clue what to do. I didn't want to risk them somehow stuffing it up so I said not to worry and paid online.

Yes, you already have a scheduled appointment. I didn't do the 'schedule appointment online' thing. Just make sure you print off a receipt for them to sight that payment has been made.

Australia and New ZealandHow long for results of medical if you need to pick them up? (Sydney)

My fiancé lives in Tassie and has to travel to get the medical. Since he also has to travel for the interview, we are hoping that we could plan for one trip where he could get the medical done and then pick up the results and then take them to his interview. Does anyone know what the turn around time for getting the results of the medical is? I know that the interviews for K1 visas are on Tuesdays, and he would have to schedule his interview time and then schedule his medical around (obviously before) that- but I don't know how much time is needed for the results. I can have him call, but the more information I can give him before hand, the better things will go, lol. He's a bit overwhelmed by the amount of paperwork, etc., so I'm trying to make things easier for him if I can.

Any advice or information anyone has about this would be very much appreciated! smile.png

It's not so much the turn around of results that you have to worry about.

In order for you to have the interview you must submit the Packet 3 which is either inclusive of the medical/sent directly too the consulate. The consulate will review your Packet 3 documents to ensure everything is in order. They will then contact you with "Packet 4" which will outline when you're interview time and dates are. Lately from what I've read, this has been approximately a month after the consulates receipt of Packet 3.

So what I'm basically saying is I don't think it will be possible for you to expect to get a Packet 4 until they have received this. He most likely will have to do two trips a pain, I know.

Australia and New ZealandSending Medical After Packet 3?

Hey guys, Just wondering if it is possible to reply to the Packet 3 without having medical results ready to send in with it. The earliest medical in Sydney was June 25th and I'm ready with every other form needed to reply to Packet 3 now. Also if I do send it now, will they even schedule me an interview without having received my medical results?

Thanks for any advice!

Someone recently asked the same question.

Have you emailed the consulate to see whether this is acceptable? They are quiet helpful.

I know how hard it is to be waiting and away from your other half but 2-3 weeks isn't that much longer. You're at the tail end of things! Yaydancin5hr.gif

Australia and New Zealandshipping to the US

My visa was approved this week! I'm now figuring out the logistics of moving to New York. Can anyone recommend a reliable and cheap shipping service?

Hi,

I used Sevenseas world wide.

http://www.sevenseas...CFcdAMgodBEYAWg

They do a door to door service and provide you with packing materials etc. Communication is great. They have two options - either via sea (which is cheaper) or air ( a lot more expensive but shorter delivery time)

Also, check to see what your airline allows with luggage. I flew over with Virgin and was allowed 2 x bags at 22.5kgs each all the way through.

Congratulations on your approval too! I remember how exciting it was!

Australia and New ZealandPerth Medical + Interview

I am currently waiting on my NOA2, in Perth, Western Australia (5.5 months now) but I was wondering about medicals. I have read before that they perform vision and hearing tests as part of the exam... I'm wondering how they go about (or what they do) dealing with someone with a hearing loss?? It is something I have had from birth and while it is classed as severe, I wear hearing aids & do not at all rely on ASL. I function just fine within the 'normal' community (I have a job, etc). I suppose my question here is, can they simply fail my medical because they don't like the fact I am hard of hearing??

Another question I had was about the Interviews. I've noticed pretty much all Aussies have to head to Sydney, NSW for it... Is this the case for those in Perth, Western Australia, too?? Because that would really put a dent in our savings if I have to fly all the way across the whole country for just a few hours! Of course, I'll still do it, but it would be nice to hear from any other Western Australians who have been experienced/been through this, so that I can prepare myself!

Thanks so much, I appreciate any responses.

Sorry, Can't help you with the medical but yes, the interview for a K-1 visa is conducted in Sydney only and will always be on a Tuesday for a K1 Visa. They give you approximately a month notice (unless you're successful in requesting an earlier interview.
