K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVaccination questions
Ahh, thank you so much guys! :)

Will be booking a Serology test in the next couple of months then go from there. Do I just ask my GP for one, or go into one of those pathology centres (I can't think of their name now...) and say I need one?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVaccination questions
Hey guys :)

I just have a super quick question regarding vaccinations which I haven't been able to find an answer for, I even emailed the doctor where I am to have my medical but got no response.

In 2003 I had my Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis booster, and also my Measles, Mumps and Rubella booster. I have records for these. Do I need them again before my medical, or will I still be good from 2003?

I haven't had the Varicella vaccination, but I had chickenpox as a child, and so did my fiance, so do I need this?

I just want to know, as I plan on doing my medical way before my NOA2, just to get it out the way. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLength of time dating before marriage proposal
I met my fiancé online (On WoW) in late 2008 sometime, I can't really remember. Might've been September, and we were really close friends before deciding to make things 'official' and started dating July 29, 2009 - We had feelings for each other way before that, but he'd been in a long distance thing before (She lived in another state, so it wasn't super long distance. It didn't work out 'cos she cheated on him), and I hadn't, so we talked it over for a while. I flew out there to visit him in November 2010 (3rd-17th) and he proposed to me on the 14th and all his family came over :) We didn't take any photos of the dinner though (Had it at his grandparents) 'cos I'd got a nasty cold (Flying from Australian Summer to the middle of Ohio where it was cooold!) and passed it onto my fiancé, so we had dinner and said our goodbyes and went to bed! Lol.

gosh I wrote an essay... Lol :jest:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 approved.. fiance due to visit in 2 weeks

Hey everyone!

So.. exciting news today, after 4 months of waiting.. I finally received the email confirmation that the NOA2 is approved and the hard copy is on its way. Yay!!!

My fiance is due to visit June 22nd- July 12th, I've heard sometimes its difficult for them to visit though? Even if its just on a tourist visa like he's been here on twice before? Has anyone else had a problem with their fiance coming to visit the US? He's already got a return ticket scheduled and has to get back to work and he is coming here to attend a good friends wedding with me July 9th. Is there anything he should bring/do before he leaves on his flight to get here?

Any info on this would be very helpful.. I would be devestated if he got turned back around after flying here!!

Thanks, Jenn

Yay another Aussie! Congrats on the NOA2 by the way :) Hopefully mine will be here sooooon!

I'm actually in the US right now visiting my fiance for seven weeks, my POE was LAX. I had all my evidence ready that I was due to come home - I took with me a letter from my fiance's mom, a copy of the NOA1, a letter from centrelink saying I was returning to Australia on the 22nd July, a copy of my return ticket etc.

Went upto Customs, so so nervous "So you're here on vacation?" "Yeah" (I'd tell him more detail if he asked) "You goin' to Vegas?" "Nah, that'd be cool though! Just going upto Wisconsin" "Awesome, have a nice trip and a safe flight up there."

and that was it! He did seem to scroll through my 'file' (I don't know what he was looking at, but he was scrolling down a lot on his computer) for a while, but I wasn't asked any questions regarding what I was doing here or anything like that. If he had asked me for more information I would've told him, but hey, he didn't.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOK to travel to US on valid tourist visa while K-1 is pending?
Landed in LAX yesterday, had all my proof ready, letter from my fiancé's mom, copy of NOA1 etc...

The man just looked at me, asked if I was here on vacation, I said yes (If he asked more question I was prepared to tell him I'm visiting my fiancé, but he didn't), took my fingerprints, took my photo. He asked me if I was going to Vegas and I said no (No idea why he asked that, since on the customs form I clearly wrote I was going to Wisconsin). He said "Have a nice vacation" stamped my passport and I was on my way.

He did seem to spend ages scrolling down his screen though (Could see him scrolling his mouse) as if looking at something, not sure what, but hey, I got in no worries so it doesn't bother me!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOK to travel to US on valid tourist visa while K-1 is pending?

You will be fine Katie. I was never asked about K1 or anything as they don't know at POE. Just welcomed me back after the first trip and said have a nice holiday.

I hope so! :) Thank you though, it's good to see another Aussie who has done it. I'm still going to say I'm vacationing with my fiancee and his family, and if asked, I do have the proof that I'm returning, guess I'll find out! I'm sure I'm just stressing over nothing really!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOK to travel to US on valid tourist visa while K-1 is pending?
I'm actually going to see my fiance in two days for seven weeks; I'm taking along a copy of the NOA1, a letter from the government saying I'm expected to return on the 22nd July - I'm on financial aid at the moment as I don't have a job, a letter from my fiance's mom, and a thing saying I have a doctors appointment on the 27th July. Also will have the return ticket. I'll let you know how I go getting into America, lol. Hopefully all will go well! Just have to proove that you aren't going to get married illegaly or overstay.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Sydney Payment fee- Australia Post don't know anything about it!!
That's really good to know! Thank you! I'll be going for my interview soon (once I finally get the i-134s from my fiance and have my medical!) so this is a big worry off my mind 'cos I was wondering how to pay for it (Knew you had to go to the post office, but didn't know what to ask for. xD)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMy K-1 Sydney Interview Process

Yep just go down to the Australia Post and get a 3kg platinum express post satchel, it costs about $18, then just write your details on it, and bring it along to your interview.

When you give the consulate official the satchel they will give you the tracking sticker on it, so you can trace it online.

Basically they put the final paperwork in it, so you write the address where you want them to send the final packet.

Also, my medical was fairly painless, I was able to get an appointment in just over a week, and the results were done in two days after the appointment, just make sure you bring US size passport photos, not Australian ones as they are not accepted (As I found out the hard way!)

Good luck to you!

Gray

Oooh okay, good to know, thank you!! :)

US sized passport photos? Ugh. How do I get those? (Sorry for the billion questions, haha..) I had some leftover ones from when I sent my i-129F that I got taken in a postoffice, so I guess they wont be suitable? d'oh.

Good to see Aussies getting approved! Hopefully soon I'll be writing on here about my experiences with the consulate and fingers crossed, approval! :D

Congratulations!!

My interview (not booked yet, waiting on a redone i-134 from my fiance as he changed jobs!) will be in a month or so hopefully, I do still need to get my medical done, hopefully going to book that tomorrow. it's good to know all this stuff so I can be prepared when I fly to Sydney hehe

I'm confused about the envelope though? Do we just buy a 3kg express envelope and put our address on it then give it to them or what? Is it explained in packet 4? Lol so confused D:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPreparing Interview

Hi, Trev. I am collecting our evidence for on going our relationship, E-mail, photos, cards of which we sent at the Christmas season. There are lots of things. I am going to bring a heavy documents pack on the interveiw day.
I wish we are approved about our K1 visa on the day. I am already nervous. If you have time, let's have a cup of coffee and chat. See you then. Good luck

Hehe, Trev is the USC. It's Katie (me!) That's the Aussie going for the interview. We could maybe meet for coffee, although your interview will be done while I'm having mine, and I have to fly back to Brisbane the same day so I might not have time, plus I'm sure if you get approved you'll be way too excited to sit down and have coffee, I know I will be!! I wish you all the best though, where will you be living in the United States if you get approved?

You really do not need to take all that to your interview. The only thing you need to take is what they asked for as all your evidence is there in your file from the USA. Why would you take all that as odds are they wont ask for it. You can take a few things like letter of intent and some pics but would not worry abour letters or emails and cards OMGoodness they will not even ask for them.
Trust me this is all you need
birth certificate , passport, the original receipt for visa fee and Express post platinum envelop. exactly what they asked for. And you do know you just go to the post office and pay for your visa yes? Keep that receipt and donlt let it out of your site.

I know a few people have said that they didn't even look at evidence, but I think it might look strange if you turn up with no evidence at all, and I think knowing my luck, if I turned up with nothing, they would ask to see something! I'm taking along cards and emails etc etc just for peace of mind incase they do ask for it, chances are, they wont, but it's good to have all the evidence there with me - plus I'm doing it in a scrapbook so it's easy to carry, plus I can keep it for all the memories etc. I dunno'! I think taking evidence, even if they don't ask for it, is good as it shows you are in a relationship if they do ask, lol.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPreparing Interview

Guys, I need your help for my interview.

I've got the letter for interviewing. I have to bring my birth certificate , passport, the original receipt for visa fee and Express post platinum envelop. However when I read several members states, they brought their photos, letters for evidence of relationship. What should I bring another documents with me? Please give me good informations for my interview. Thank you.

Our interview is on the same day, yay! :)

I got told to bring another letter of intent (As it's past the expiry date of our NOA2), passport, receipt, and the envelope. But I'm also bringing along with me all the cards we've sent each other throughout the relationship (Birthday cards, Easter cards, cards just to say 'I love you', cards from my parents/his parents when we got engaged, etc) screenshots of text messages (since I can't take my phone into the consulate lol!), as well as a few emails we've sent (random dates), chat logs, phone bills, and photos of us together, also I have been talking to his mom on facebook so I'm going to try and screenshot a couple of those chat logs and take them along too. I'll also be taking along my plane tickets/boarding passes from the times I've flown out there, as well as random receipts of things, lol. I'm doing it in a huge scrapbook as the amount of stuff I have is crazy, and I'd feel silly getting on a plane (From Brisbane) with a box full of paperwork etc.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice checks for K1 - Sydney, AUS
My policecheck, which was done in QLD, was $169.05 (Yeah really, five cents...). You just go into a police station and say you need a police check with fingerprints, and if they ask why, say it's for visa purposes. Fill out a form, take some fingerprints, all is well! :D

I applied for mine on the 27th July, and they sent it out to me on the 2nd August. Which would've been GREAT except... I did have issues with my neighbours stealing my mail though  , so I didn't end up getting it until September sometime because I emailed them and asked where the heck it was (Because I didn't write on the form to send it to the consulate, although I've read that they do. But I don't think they did in my case.) so they had to send me another one! Lol.

I wouldn't get it done just yet though, since you only applied in September.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDelaying K1
It should be okay if you delay your paperwork when it comes to that point (packet 3 stuff) like someone said above. Once you have your NOA2 you have 4 months to get everything sent (Obviously don't leave it all to the very last second, but it does give you a bit of extra time.)

Don't forget though that you will need a police check for the country you'll be working in, since you'll be there for more than 6 months.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs a blood test mandatory at the medical?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

I can't really say whether what you have will suffice, but I would additionally take a copy of your NOA1 and maybe even a cope of the whole I-129F package, to show proof that you are going the correct, legal way and are serious about this.

My fiance has the copy of the I-129F package, and was going to send it to me once we had the NOA2, so I can't bring that. I'll be bringing a copy of the NOA1, a letter from my dad, his mom, and also notes of the appointment I have for the doctors when I get back, as well as the government appointment. The letter from his mom basically says I'll be staying there with her and him, and that we're doing this the legal way and have no intention of getting married while I'm there on vacation.

Just hoping I get a nice POE officer who's in a good mood! I leave in ten days so I'll write about the POE when I can!

Thanks for the help though :) I wasn't sure if the NOA1 would be a good thing to take, but I think it would be after your suggestion
Katie & TrevFemaleAustralia2011-05-23 04:38:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!
I'm visiting my fiancé in just over two weeks, staying for seven weeks.

so so so so nervous about the POE, don't have many ties to Australia that I can show, I live with my parents, currently unemployed - Job ended a few weeks ago, I do help my dad out with his work though (He's an IT Tech at a school and sometimes I go with him to help out (He's self employed though so I can't get a letter from the school as proof)) and I'm getting unemployment payments from the government right now (Going to tell them on Monday about my trip) and will probably have to go see them once I return to Australia. Would a letter from my dad and maybe proof of an appointment at the government office be enough proof that I -do- intend to return and that we -are- doing the K1 visa (aka the legal way) and I don't intend on staying?

Just worried because when I traveled to the US before (Nov 2010) the officer in LAX asked what I was doing there, and I just said "Visiting friends" (Which is true, but I was mainly there to see my boyfriend (now fiancé) and stayed with him the entire time, I didn't bring him up though incase they questioned me (first time flyer back then!)) - but obviously now a K1 visa is in progress, I might come up on their screen.

So so so nervous :( ugh. :help:

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 4 Request List
I requested a personal response from the Sydney Consulate with the answers to my questions. Here is the email.

Thank you for your recent inquiry.

(1) It is essential that your children attend a personal interview at the U.S. Consulate General in Sydney to be eligible for the K2 visa.

(2) The “affidavit” provided with the Packet 3 documents regarding the custody information and signed by your children’s father; unfortunately the signature on the affidavit and his divers license (which has expired) does not match. Please have the children’s father provide current photo ID, along with child custody information (he may wish to provide a statutory declaration (http://www.ag.gov.au/statdec)

(3) Each person eligible for a K visa must pay this application fee at Australia Post.

Well there you go VJ family...they do reply and I'm SO SO grateful!!!!!

Thanks for your reply Kim, every comment is so helpful...

I just got this off the Canberra Us Embassy (regarding children attending the interview)and thought Id just post it incase someone is wanting to know this also
**Do my children have to attend the interview?

Yes, unless your children are already U.S. citizens. Children, regardless of age, who are applying for immigrant or derivative fiancé(e) visas, must attend the interview.

So now that means I need to spend MORE money on flying ALL of us down there to Syndey. I think I was truly ignorant to exactly HOW MUCH this whole process was going to cost. That might be why it takes month to sort out, so we have time to save our pennies...lol! Thanks guys!

I just thought of another question that concerns me. Do my children HAVE to attend the interview too? When I sent the Packet 3 to the consulate, on the DSL-1076 "Readiness to be interviewed" it asked if I'm attending the interview alone or with my children....I ticked alone. It didn't mention in Packet 4 that they must attend but it does have theirs and my names listed as Traveling Applicants in packet 4? I'm getting really stressed about all this now...not a nice feeling :( I appreciate your help my new friends....Thank you!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 4 Request List
Well I'm very excited to say that we just received our packet 4 today which brings my fiance and I closer to being together again...FINALLY lol! I have questions about what they are asking for in Packet 4. Here is what they have requested-

( 1 ) CHILD CUSTODY for Child 1 and Child 2: Any minor child immigrating with a parent or who has been petitioned for on his or her own must submit custody information.
1Submit the original and one photocopy

( 2 ) PASSPORT: ( A passport must have at least 8 months validity beyond the issuance date of the visa.).

( 3 ) FEES: This fee can only be paid at an Australia Post outlet and prior to attending the visa interview.
1K Visa applicants (click on link to the left to refer to our website regarding the fees)

( 4 ) EXPRESS POST 3KG ENVELOPE: To be used to mail your visa to you when issued. Please ensure the
envelope contains your name and the address where you would like us to mail the visa.

With request (1) (and this is the main concern I have...so here's my background story) My sons live with me full time and have always done so before and since after their father and I separated almost 7 years ago. He was off the scene for many years until 2008 when he decided that he wanted to have visitation with them. We went through mediation and agreed upon a 'Parenting Order' which is now lodged at the Australia Queensland Family Courts. Basically it just states that the children live with me their mother and he can see them on school holidays, and for any long term care and welfare both parents will share equally decision making. At the beginnin of this year when i first got engaged, I need permission off their father to take the children with me to the States which he agreed upon. It said in Packet 3 that "Any minor child applying with a parent must submit custody information. This may include a court “Order of Residence” & “Relocation Order” verifying sole custody to the immigrating parent or a signed and dated affidavit from the child’s other parent advising of his/her knowledge and consent for the child to live in the United States which should include a copy of a photo ID of that parent". I don't know if our "Parenting Order" is the same thing as a "Order of Residence" and we don't have a "Relocation Order" so we went with the affidavit. So I created a document in the format of an affidavit myself stating those things which were mentioned and had their father sign it in front of a 'Justice of the Peace' to notorize the document and took a photocopy of his drivers licence and sent it off in Packet 3 to the consulate. I did not send a copy of the "parenting order lodged in 2008" though. My 'Parenting Order' is not custody papers as such but it does state clearly in point number (1) the children live with their mother. QUESTION- Is this what the consulate wants me to bring? Is it sufficent to proof of custody and is the "Parenting Order" and the "Affidavit" together enough to have the visa's approved???

Request (2) Do they just want me to bring my passport to the interview? In packet 3 I sent photocopies of the bio page of our passports so I'm presuming that they just want me to phyiscally bring the passport to the interview...???

Request (3) What.. there's another FEE?? We already paid a fee when my fiance lodged it in America, is this another fee? And if I just go into any Australian Post Office, will they know what I'm talking about when i say i need to pay for the K1 visa fee?

Request (4) I'm good with this one...lol

So VJ Family.....please share some of your wisdom with me..especially the Aussies that may have experienced something similar from the Sydney Consulate. Thank you SO SO much!!!!!

Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to this world of K1 visa applications and I'm needing some help. My fiance filed the I129F forms on the 10th May 2010 with several photos and a story of how we'd meet. I wasn't even aware that I had to do anything at the beginning so now after 3 mths of waiting they have asked us for the additional documents that should have been sent ie- letter of intent to marry 90days, his divorce papers and my story of how we met. I'm in Australia and he's in the US so getting the orginal documents to him takes time so I'm wondering if I'm able to scan them to him to save time? Or do they need to be original? Also, how much time would this mistake have held our processing time up now?? Thanks for your help everyone!

My question is, do I only have to send the DS-230I form in for me or do I need to do one each for my children? It doesn't mention that on the instructions list but it does say on the form itself 'complete one copy for each family member immigrating with you'. I know the children need a DS-156 form each but what about the DS230I...pls help!!!
