K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCan NVC stop the package from being forwarded to the Embassy?

My NOA 2 was done about 2 weeks ago, 1 week ago I called the NVC and they even have issued the BGT number (Bogota Embassy). Today I called to see if the package has been forwarded but to my surprise they said that it was under AP (Additional Processing) and they could not tell me when it would be forwarded.......urrrrr

Can the NVC deny an approved K-1?

Is this normal? What does this mean, AP at the NVC? They conduct another review?

If they (NVC) notices that something is not right with the documents or something else do they return the package to CSC or will I get an RFE?

D N Medellin COL, I am sorry to hear about your petition being put on AP(Administrative Processing or also called additional processing). From older threads here at VJ, it appears that the pattern is you get no answers from the NVC when you call, and it takes about 60 days for the petition to clear AP. Maybe someone else reading your question who has already been through AP can share their experience.

Hang in there,

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNoa2 and embassy contacted my fiancée and I

About going to the interview with your fiancee, read up on that specific embassy's habits. Some places don't want any extra people and others seem to deny everyone who shows up solo. Even within the same country, the different embassies has their own "protocols". Good luck!

EminTX, that's good advice. In the case of the embassy in Bogota Colombia, they say the Petitioner is welcome to go to the interview, and from reading some of the reviews for that embassy, it seems like it does help for the petitioner to be there.

I have the BGT what is the deadline to setup the appointment once I have that number? Is that something I will need to contact the consulate with?

Ok, so should be good to go for setting up your interview. Here is the link to the Embassy Web site: http://bogota.usemba...rant_visas.html

Click the link to the right "Schedule Interviews", but before you do that, click on "Interview" to download the "Instructions Package" for K Visas. There are instructions on how to schedule your interview. As for the deadline, I think you have 4 months from your NOA2 date to do your interview.

Very quick response as I only submitted the k1 in October. I have surgery coming up which is why I was wondering how long we had to act. The embassy is in bogota.

Mythical85, I thought from your post that you just recieved your NOA2, which is not the same thing as getting a notice from the Embassy. If you just found out about your NOA2, the petition has to pass through the National Visa Center first, then it will get sent to the embassy. I tried to look at your timeline, but it does not appear you have started one yet...:-) If you have not already, call the NVC and give them your eMail address and the eMail address of your fiance'. The embassy will send your fiance' an eMail letting her know they have received the petition and you can schedule your interview, however, if you already have a BGT number, you can schedule your appointment now.

I recently received a noa2 and a notification from the embassy that they were beginning to process the k1 paperwork it says that we will need to bring the documents to the interview but it is not clear if there is a deadline. Is there a certain amount of time we have to get the paperwork ready or when our appointment would be? I am an American citizen and live in Florida would I be required to travel to bogota for the interview or does only my fiancée need to attend the consulate meeting with the paperwork?

Hi Mythical85, congrats on getting your approval. You should be receiving a letter from the Department of Homeland Security in mail notifying you that your petition has been approved. When I look at my NOA2, it says it is valid for 4 months from the notice date, so I have to assume you would have 4 months to act.

It's not required for you to be at the interview, but if you go though many of the posts on this site, you will see that you going with her to the interview increases your chances of success, so I would go...I also live in Florida and am scheduled for an interview this March.

I had nothing in my documents saying anything about sending money or western union...... I think its just one of the standard questions, at least with her ( lady in window 5)

Thank you Jacob, I am glad you mentioned that because I was only going to bring my receipts as more of a supplement to what evidence I already had...seems like they should have mentioned it in their document requests if they were looking for that specific thing.

Jon and Clau,

I was asked for the same thing. Andrea was asked if I sent her money and she said yes. She then asked for the receipts and I had forgotten to print the xoom.com records but I had all of my bank statements showing the xoom.com transfers.

Andrea y Arturo, thanks for that info. I do have the receipts from Western Union since the petition was filed, but not before. I always had to go to a Western Union with cash so I have no other records other than the receipt from Western Union.

Thanks!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsVisa approved in bogota

Greetings all, just had our interview today and it went great , just a couple hickups..... Didnt bring the reciept for payment to the embassy, so i had to go to the internet cafe accross the street to print it out...the security let me just come back in without waiting in line again which was nice.....when we went to the first window (la colombiana) she was so nice and quick i didnt think that it was an interview , the only questions she asked my fiance was my full name and my phone number.......we waited and waited and waited some more, we passed the time helping this woman fill out the 230 forms for her and her 2 kids since she spoke no english and i was the only gringo there ( besides the embassy personell).....by the way, the 230 form was not on the list of forms at the embassy, so we didnt even take it out of our envelope.....i am in no way suggesting not bringing it, just an observation...... 3 hrs later when they called her to the window the lady was very serious, asked all of the standard questions, where met, when engaged? Blah blah blah..... Theere were a couple things that raised her eyebrows.... The fact that ive been in colombia for three months.... She even said " americans dont take 4 month vacations", my fiance simply replied i have my own business so i can do what i want...... The other thing which was MAJOR is we didnt bring receipts from the money i sent western union..... Didnt think it was a big deal since we had an abundance of other evidence, photos , skype history, boarding passes, etc....... The lady was stuck on wanting these receipts, in fact, she did not ask for 1 other piece of evidence, she said " you need to bring those receipts" and i was diying inside..... But before i knew it the lady behind the window smiled and my baby turned around with tears in her eyes and i knew it was over........i think i have thought about this every day for 8 months and im so glad i dont have to think/ worry about this anymore....... A HUGE thank you to everyone this site has been so helpful..... Besides the info / checklists on completing the steps, but just knowing what the next step is / how long it will probably be was very comforting....THANK YOU VISAJOURNEY.COM

Jacob, first, congratulations on getting through the process!!! One question, when you were talking about not bringing Western Union Receipts, what was it in your documents that triggered them to ask for the reciepts? I have a couple Western Union receipts I sent for her last birthday and christmas, but have not done any other transfers, so just wondering why they asked for that.

Thanks and best wishes.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 arrived yesterday! I need help on next steps

http://bogota.usemba...pt-package.html

Need to read the instructions for the I-134. Under Supporting Evidence: You need letter or letters from bank or banks, to state date account opened, total amount deposited for the past year, and present balance. I had to pay for my Bank of America's letter.

Also, letter from employer to state date and nature of employment, salary paid, and whether the position is temporary or permanent.

Oz, as long as his income is 125% above the poverty level for his state, he does not need bank statements or prove assets on the I-134. If you are above the 125%, then tax return, letter from employer, and a couple of pay statements will work...that's what I submitted and had no issues.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPOE Question / CR1 traveling with USC baby born abroad

Hello VJ friends,

I want to thank everyone in VJ community for their posts and making us all a little more knowledgeable with the immigration process.

I am happy and exited to say that my wife has an interview for her visa in Bogota on July 13th. God willing everything will go excellent in her interview and she’ll be approved for her visa. When she enters to the United States she will be arriving with our 10-month-old baby, who is a USC born abroad and holds a US passport.

Now for the question.

As she arrives to see Customs and Border Protection at the POE is it wise for her to go with the USC line since she will be traveling with the baby or should she not attempt this and just follow the Visa line?

Anyone with this or similar experiences your feedback I very much appreciated and welcomed. Thanks to all who reply in advanced

You can stand in the line for Citizens/Residents. Once the officer behind the counter takes their passports, he will call for another agent and escort you to another waiting room and take the folders that the embassy mailed to her. We arrived on a Sunday and it was not busy, and the wait time was about 30 minutes. Our POE was Miami

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F Approved, Colombia, A couple questions

Yes and no... There is a test her doctor can perform called a "titter" test, which shows the antibodies present in her body. This test shows the immunizations that your fiance has already received and will reduce the number of vaccinations she needs.

While vaccinations are not a requirement for the K-1 (they CAN be administered later here in the USA prior to AOS), they will be MUCH less expensive if she has them done by her own doctor. There is no requirement that the panel physician admninister the vaccinations. If your fiance does receive vaccinations from her doctor make sure he records them on an official shot record for her to present to the panel physician at the time of the medical exam in Bogota.

At the physical, be SURE your fiance receives an extra copy of the G-3025 shot record (she keeps this copy). Many beneficiaries fail to get this extra copy and end up needlessly getting duplicate vaccinations when it is time for them to AOS.

Good luck!

Hi az110965, thanks for the tip on the G-3025 form, I missed that one so will make sure she gets a copy of that form when she goes for her physical!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F Approved, Colombia, A couple questions
Hi everyone, just want to say this site has been a great resource for helping me put together my petition!! I just received notice tonight(10PM) that my I-129(f) has been approved. NOA1 was on 10/5/11, and NOA2 was 1/24/12, so looks like Vermont is turning these around just under 4 months. I have updated my timeline. A couple questions for anyone who has had an interview at the embassy in Bogota.

1) Can my Fiance schedule her medical exam and interview within the same week? My understanding is that we can only use one of four doctors located in Bogota, so I was hoping we could avoid two trips to Bogota if possible.

2) My Fiance tells me she has no proof of any vaccinations so she will have to get whatever is required. Can she get thoe vaccinations in her home city(Barranquilla) and present her evidence at her medical exam in Bogota?

Thanks to all of you who have contributed to this site, and best wishes.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa June 9, 2010 Interview Review in Bogotá Colombia

I created her account using her information. This is what I understood. Once all is a go... I will go online, do the DS-156, print two copies, then log onto https://usvisa-info.com/ using her account, pay for the VISA with my credit card and schedule the appointment. I will then fly out to Bogota with the paperwork (DS-156, DS156K, I-134. She will fly out from Barranquilla with her paperwork (Birth Certificate, Passport, Pictures of us, some copies of e-mails, shot records-She has an old DAS certificate-Doesn't look like it's needed anymore?). I'm thinking of renting an apartment if we can't get a room at Hotel Doña Flor, Carrera 44C #22A-16. If possible, would like to stay a week with her. Last time I we were together was a short weekend last year end of August until the 5th of September. But if we can get all done in 3 days, would be great. Next is wait for the package to arrive at her place in Barranquilla (DHL Counter Prado - CALLE 74 NUMERO 52 -16). I plan to fly out and sweep her off her feet and come back together to Miami.

Just sitting here.. hoping that I get my NOA2 this coming week or next week the latest. I got my NOA1 in October 31st.

OZ62, correct on the DAS certificate...not required any longer as of the latest set of instructions from the embassy WEB site. I'm staying at Embassy Suites in Bogota. It's about a 40 minute ride to the US Embassy, but I don't mind. I have stayed in enough Mom and Pop hotels in Colombia with no hot water, so it's worth it to me even if it's a bit far. I will be in Bogota the week of March 19th for her medical and interview. Also, based on what I saw available on the appointment calendar for interviews, the last week of March had some open slots, and so did the last two weeks of April, so just to give you an idea of what is available now in case your NOA2 gets approved shortly.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa June 9, 2010 Interview Review in Bogotá Colombia
OZ62, the information here is a bit old. The Embassy changed the rules sometime back in October 2011, so I would only suggest that anyone going through this process pull the instructions from the Embassy WEB site, not from Visa Journey posts, but, ask specific questions based on the info from the Embassy Web site here at Visa Journey. Also, the beneficiary DOES NOT have to create the on-line account. I had asked this question because I was not sure if I could fill out the account data with my personal info such as eMail an phone # or that of my fiance, but you( the petitioner) can create the account with her personal info entered into the page. I did it this way because I paid the visa fee with my credit card.

I could say more, but again, refer to the embassy Web site for the latest documents that are required for the interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed help with document translation for interview

wow just wow , up until now ive always seen good , straight forward advice (to others), here people seem to be trying to spread the wrong info..... why would you suggest not submitting it anyway...... the idea that the embassy deleted the ability to submit the spanish document in the instructions, yet it would still accept in the interview is just insane , read the instructions people, its very clear,

We can return most original documents if you also bring notarized photocopies to your interview. If you already included an English translation in the documents you submitted to USCIS as part of the petition process, you do not need to provide additional English translations or duplicate copies.

how on earth someone could read this statement and say "no you dont need that " is mind-boggling

Jacob,I think you mis-understood what I said, I never said NOT to submit it, I said submit the Spanish version of the Birth Certificate, and IF, they want an English version, then you have it as you need to at some point anyway. The bad info has been coming from the embassy staff as I have experienced first had!!!

So i just got off the phone with the embassy and they confirmed yes i need the spanish documents translated in english ( answered "yes" like i was the stupid call of the day) lol

Jacob, I think some of us have learned that the people who answer the phone at the embassy work in the cafeteria. I never saw anything about translating documents for the interview to English either, however, for the birth certificate, it's my understanding that it should be translated to English as it will be required once the beneficiary gets to the US to get a drivers license as an example, so I would say, get it translated prior to your interview, but submit the Spanish version and if they ask for it in English, you already have it to give them.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTranslation of documents....

Hey :)

So, I went to my interview with some documents in English and some others in Spanish. I didn't have any problems with either one of the people who handled my file. The 1st helps you to get your documentation in order. She was a Colombian woman, very friendly and helpful, she did not have any issue with them. Then the CO (American) reviewed my entire folder and it was the same. She didn't have any trouble with them and was also very nice.

What I think is an issue is if you have any documentation in another language, other than Spanish or English. In my case, I have papers in French, so those SHOULD be translated by a certified translator. Even if you both speak the languages fluently, you have to think that anything you present to the Embassy become official documents and it's better if you treat them as such.

Informality is not the best policy in this case, IMHO.

Good luck!! (Let me know how you guys are doing :P)

Jack&Anna, thanks for your feedback as your response is consistent with what others who have had interviews have reported about the embassy in Bogota but just in case we get the evil woman who takes the papers, we plan to have the BC in both English and Spanish. Also, if her BC was issued more than two years after her birth, did you also present them the bapitismal certificate as well? Clau does not have the original so we might need more doco.

Thanks,

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresemployee letter....?

Hey guys!!
In the employment letter, I do not make salary, I am paid hourly so it is ok for them to state my hourly wage...thanks for any help!! :)

Fede&Kendra, I looked at the I134 instructions and it does not say anything specific about how a person gets paid, only to state what your salary is and if the postion is temporary or permanent. I also looked back at a poster that asked this same question and the response was for the employer to put down your hourly wage in the letter. As long as you have the other pieces like your tax return and W-2's and a few recent pay stubs and your income is above the 125% rule, then you should be fine. Maybe someone who has had an interview in Bogota with this same issue will weigh in, otherwise, if you still want further confirmation, then I would call USCIS and ask just to be sure.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDoes the NVC send you a notice when they forward your package to the Embassy?

Do you get some type of notice (letter, email, text, etc.) when they actually forward your package to the Embassy? Or you simply wait for the "Package 3" email from the particular Embassy?

D N Medellin, I received a letter from Bureau of Consular Affairs alerting me that the petition will be forwarded to the Embassy. I received this letter about 2 weeks from NOA2 date. If you provided the NVC the eMail address of your fiancee, she should get an eMail with a reference to packet 3 and 4.

Since it sounds like you already know that your petition was forwarded to the embassy, you can schedule the interview on-line now.

We finally got our NOA2 tonight! "Only" 90 days after NOA1. Can someone please point me to the best explanation of the next steps - what is the latest info on when to start calling NVC, how long is it taking and what happens when we get our London case number? Do we then call the embassy for the medical appointment or do we wait for instructions from the embassy?

Congratulations! 90 days is still 2 months shy of the official estimated wait times so pat yourselves on the back for getting approved early!! Texas has been taking about 2 weeks to send apps to NVC once approved according to other VJers, and you may call DOS after 2 weeks to follow up if you have not received notification in the mail. IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWife and I are separating during my IR-1 VISA application

You are speaking about a K-1 visa as an example but quoting a post regarding a CR1/IR1 visa which IS valid for 6 months from the date of the medical.

Perhaps the fiance visas are based on the issue date of the visa but for the CR1/IR1 it is 6 months from the medical.

To the OP, perhaps being apart for a while as you complete the process in Canada and your wife sets up domicile in the US will be a healthy little break and some time apart that in the end will make you stronger. You've been married longer than many of us when we applied so you have a much stronger history with your wife. A break for a few months could help rekindle things.

Good luck with everything!

I stand corrected, thank you MsHogan! Guess that'll teach me to check and make sure I've got the correct visa before replying to threads! I eat, sleep, and dream about K-1 visas x_x

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWife and I are separating during my IR-1 VISA application

It is 6 months from the date of the medical examination - not 6 months from the date the visa was issued.

This is incorrect. The 6 month window for you to enter your POE in the US begins the day they issue your K-1 visa.

Looks great but I'd recommend putting your photos in clear ziploc baggies and attaching the baggies to a blank sheet of paper that goes behind the corresponding G325A. Also I wouldn't keep your papers in those laminated sleeves. I followed the advice of seasoned VJ'ers and two-hole punched the top of every sheet of paper in my application packet and used the ACCO fasteners. That makes it very easy for anyone working on your case file to easily remove papers for copying, etc.

Good luck and Godspeed! =)
