United KingdomIn the US

I'm looking forward to your POE review as I'm going to JFK first and then down to Florida on Tuesday. I've never been to JFK so I hope its ok. I left myself a 3 hour layover so fingers crossed I won't be dashing through the airport.

Was there a separate line for new immigrants like there is in some airports? Thanks for any info you put up and congrats on being reunited with your loved one :)

United KingdomWhat to expect in the package from the beneficiary's embassy

Hello.

Just to confirm what the previous poster has said. Its just one letter with your case number and a website address. You will file your forms electronically.

If you know your case number already (by phoning DOS I believe, can't remember but I think it was them and not the NVC) then you can go ahead and book your medical. Make sure you have your police certificate to hand by the time the medical comes around.

Also if the beneficiary hasn't got a long form birth certificate (listing both parents' names) then order one of those as they can take a bit of time to receive and you will need it for the interview.

Hope this helps and good luck!

United KingdomNich-Nick is Missing in Action

I can't believe it. She helps so many people, directly and indirectly, and I will be forever grateful for all her knowledge. And now she's gone. I read the thread that supposedly caused the ban and thought I'd missed something. Surely all this can't be over what was said there? There was nothing wrong.

There are a few regular posters on this site that help out so much from the kindness of their hearts, not because they are obliged to do so. I could never have got through the process so quickly and easily without their knowledge, and it will be a great shame for new posters to not be able to benefit from Nich-Nick's info. I really hope she comes back and this matter is settled.

That being said, I have lurked before signing up and posting and have noticed a change in postings. I think its sad that people come here for information, get what they need and leave as soon as the visa is in hand. As I'm flying out soon I have a lot of things to take care of, but as soon as I'm more settled I will be coming back frequently to help out where I can (although my immigration knowledge is like 1/100th of Nich-Nick's and other regulars). I want to help but also believe its important to help others in return for being helped before.

Basically, I wouldn't have got through this process as calmly and as prepared as I did if it weren't for wonderful posters like Nich-Nick. I hope she will return.

United KingdomVisa---Pick up at depot or courier?

Thank you for this information! I was looking at the site about half an hour ago and thought $30 was pretty high.

I'm confused however. When on the site, it made me pick a drop-off location before going on to the next page. I chose Birmingham because its the closest but I don't want to drive all the way to Birmingham.

Am I right in assuming that when I get to the embassy they will give me the option to have home delivery and ignore the Birmingham instructions? And who would I speak to regarding this, is it the person that interviews you?

Thanks in advance :)

United KingdomDS-2035 & I-693 - Acceptable??

It's perfect. Use it.

The nurse doesn't need to write those "due in _____" but she does. It's not in the technical instructions to note that. But it's still okay.

Mind you, USCIS can fail to match up your medical file with your AOS file. They do that more than they should. If that happens you can get a RFE to do the whole medical over. Nothing you can do about that. And if you have an interview, any given adjudicator might not have studied their handbook and could tell you anything. So while there are no guarantees, hundreds have been approved with what you have.

Thank you so much. You're so helpful all the time :) Knowing my luck they probably will lose my medical file but in the meantime I'm just going to send it in like this. Thanks for taking a weight off my shoulders :)

United KingdomDS-2035 & I-693 - Acceptable??

Hello everyone.

I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this but I've seen members of the UK boards give great advice regarding this, so thought I would post here first.

Anyway, here I am in the US, getting all my AOS documents ready. At the moment I've included photocopies of my DS-2035 in the AOS package but I'm wondering whether to get it transcribed onto a I-693 instead. From what I've read, my DS-2035 looks like they would accept that version (boxes checked, incomplete, etc) but was just hoping someone could take a look at my form and see if its acceptable to send it in as it is?

So should I send this in or get an I-693 done?

Many thanks :)

P.S Sorry I don't know how to make the file appear in the body of the text.

United KingdomHow to get passport out of K-1 packet

I've seen a lot of your previous topics (not just the recent ones from yesterday). Can I just point out that you come across quite rude when people try to help you. It may be because you are being blunt, but I think your panicking is causing you to snap at people. Please calm down and read any answers you get to your questions a couple of times to take it all in. There are some very knowledgable posters who have offered great advice and info on your previous queries (including this topic) and often you just dismiss it.

I'm also going to re-iterate what a lot of other people have said to you in the past. Please read any available information. A lot of your queries can be answered in either the guides at the top of the home page or the pinned threads in the UK forum. Now that your fiance has received an approval at the embassy, I urge you to carefully pour over all the information available on the AOS process as your visa journey is far from over.

AOS is a new set of forms and obviously people have questions about this process. However, I tried to limit my postings on the forum as I found if I read the guides, read the forums daily (even topics you don't think are related to you often have some additional info you can use) and used the search function I was pretty much confident I was doing what I needed to do. The search function is great because 9 times out of 10 your question has already been asked (and answered).

To answer your question. The passport and visa envelope are delivered in a grey bag. Open the grey bag (carefully) and the passport will be loose (for you to obviously use at the airport). The visa envelope is brown and has "DO NOT OPEN - ONLY BY US GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS" etc stamped on it. Put that safely in hand luggage and your fiance is ready to go.

Oh and congratulations on your fiance being approved by the London Embassy. See, all that worrying for nothing!

United KingdomACRO Police Check Waiting Times

Thanks for the replies. I might just wait until I'm home then if it takes 10 working days as stated on the form (sorry, missed that part). If I get a bit worried I guess I can always pay for the expedited option.

I wanted to use my doctor because she would be good at squeezing me in to do this with no medical appointment, she can be accommodating. I think she is the person I have known longest, the others wouldn't be for two years I don't think. I guess I could pop into my old high school to see if a teacher could do this but I left 8 years ago so I'm not sure who would still be there that would remember me. That might be awkward haha. I have a family friend who is a police officer... or maybe just quit, would have to check.

I'm probably over-thinking all of this... Thank you for the replies, they are helping out a lot! I love this forum too, so many answers for every question, no matter how big or little. :)

United KingdomACRO Police Check Waiting Times

Hello! Just a quick question.

How long does a police check take to come through? If I chose the standard service how long would it be? I am spending some time in the States with my fiance until December and our petition has already reached the NVC. Whereas this is fantastic news, I'm concerned that if I wait till I'm home to send my police check in it could delay our case.

I would be sending it in the first week of January (need to get it signed by a doctor so hopefully they could do it as soon as I ask), and my approved NOA2 expires Feb 21st. Would this be cutting it short?

I'm considering having a photo done here, sending it home and then getting a family member to take it into the doctor to endorse... Would that be possible?

Thanks in advance for any help with this issue smile.png

United KingdomI-134 & London Questions

Thank you very much :) Eases my mind somewhat.

It is scanned because its what he had to send when he leased his current apartment, not entirely sure where the original is. I will look into getting another one done with a fresh signature.

Thank you both for your answers, really helped me out. I feel like a nuisance sometimes asking for help, but everyone always has friendly answers :)

United KingdomI-134 & London Questions

Hello.

I'm going to get my fiance to fill out the I-134 one day next week and have a couple of questions.

His job earns above the 125% poverty line, both before and after taxes (not sure which is counted). However, he has held it since July so by the time the interview rolls around he won't have made above the poverty line yet. Will we need a co-sponsor? His brother is able to co-sponsor if we do, I would just prefer that we don't have to do extra paperwork.

I have heard that the London embassy is quite relaxed regarding financial details. At the moment, we are planning on him filling out the I-134, bringing a signed letter from his boss stating where he is employed, his salary and his position (this is scanned, not an ink signature if that is acceptable) and printouts of his wage slips. We cannot bring his most recent tax returns as he made nowhere near the poverty line at his last job. Do you think this is ok or will we run into problems?

Thank you for any help in advance.

United KingdomPutting off medical

We are in the same position. My file is at the embassy already, NOA2 expires Feb 22nd and I'm over here in the states as we thought it would take longer and we could spend the waiting time together.

In the first week of January I will send the police check off and go to my GP to get a Tdap shot, a top-up of MMR & a flu shot. I will probably schedule my medical for the third week of January (providing the police check is back). Then afterwards send in my readiness form. I will have sent my DS-160 off by the end of the month just to show I'm pursuing it all. I'll bring a notarized letter of intent to marry from my fiance to the interview as I expect it will be past the Feb 22nd date.

It's weird because I'm so grateful that this process is going so quickly compared to wait times earlier in the year etc, but I'm also worried that my remaining time in England will be short and rushed as ideally we would like to get married on our anniversary in April. I do wonder how fast I could've got the visa had I not been over here during this time but who knows.

United KingdomUn-Booking a Medical?

United KingdomUn-Booking a Medical?

Hello.

So I sent off for my police certificate yesterday using the regular service. And I've just booked my medical for the 27th Jan. Do you think I've left myself enough time for the certificate to be returned? I know there won't be anything on it as I haven't been in trouble with the police ever. I'm just worried now that I should have booked the medical for a week later.

Should I change it? Or pray that my police check takes less than 10 days to process (plus postage) and see how things go? I read that you have to give 3 days notice to change it without a penalty fee of £90?

Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

United KingdomInterview Date....the waiting game

I just completed my applicant readiness form even though my medical is at the end of the month. I am aiming to travel by the end of March and hope that things go smoothly. There's no way the Embassy will schedule my interview before the medical results right? Regardless of already completing the readiness form?

United KingdomFainting During Medical

Hello everyone.

Had my medical on Monday and I didn't faint! Very happy :)

We got there around 20 minutes before my appointment time. I had the chest x-ray within five minutes of handing the receptionist a form back. Then waited a while. They were apparently running late although there were only two others in the waiting room with me. But that was just the female waiting room so maybe they had a lot in the male area. Who knows.

My doctor was quite formal. She didn't say anything to help me relax as I'm fairly certain it was obvious I was very nervous. She also didn't give me advance warning as to what she was about to do. I guess she has to test a lot of people every day and gets bored explaining everything?

I hated having my blood taken, but just scrunched my eyes shut so I wouldn't see it. And then I was out and feeling relieved.

Thank you to those of you who gave me advice. In the end I decided not to provide a letter from my doctor about fainting at appointments, and figured if I fainted at the exam I would tell her then. I made sure to have a big breakfast, and some chocolate, and have a leisurely walk to the address. I then distracted myself by talking to my Mum who was waiting with me. It wasn't a horrible experience, but I'm glad its over and done with. :)

You're welcome! It's pretty cool this site isn't it, I've been using it a lot recently for little things here and there.

One thing I'd say if you take someone with you... The doctor will want to check the goods! So might wanna tell mother dear to turn away before you drop trow! biggrin.png haha

It is so helpful! I'm sure I have annoyed some people with little questions or being silly and panicking over time but everyone here is so nice to me and I know I'm in the best possible hands for great answers.

And haha I didn't know that! If Mum comes, I'll be sure to give her advance warning!

Oh wow, thank you all for the replies!

I'm a little confused whether to say something or not but maybe I'll just go with the flow and see how I feel? I'm definitely going to have a long walk beforehand and a big meal. I hate the tube so will definitely avoid it, its so hot down there!

I never knew there was a thing called white coat syndrome! Crazy but I guess it makes sense.

Honestly, thank you all for such quick replies, there is a lot of useful info and I'm grateful for it :)

United KingdomFainting During Medical

I can't really answer these questions, but I'd vote for option #3 along with #2. Better to be prepared than not. If possible, I'd also bring someone with you to the medical. Someone to help calm you down and be there in case you do faint.

I'm definitely no expert, but I wouldn't think that fainting would result in a visa denial. Fainting isn't all that rare, and if your doctor has had you checked and concluded that all is well, I would think Knightsbridge would agree.

As a person who has a bit of a history of fainting, here are my tips:

 - bring another person with you to help calm your nerves.

 - focus on breathing deeply throughout the appointment.

 - Bring an ice cold water bottle with you - this will help for drinking/hydration/cooling you off internally and externally

 - Dress in layers, and don't worry about looking unseasonably dressed - better to be in short sleeves and ballet flats and not pass out than to be in a sweater and warm socks and end up on the floor!

I am the USC, so I can't really speak to fainting history and doing the Knightsbridge medical, but I know my doctors here don't think it's a problem. I have low blood pressure, I'm tall, and I overheat somewhat easily. I've passed out on and off for the last 10 years or so.

I think Knightsbridge is looking for diseases that would cause a potential burden on the US healthcare system. If you've never required medical attention and have been checked out for any more serious issues regarding the fainting (which sounds like its a very isolated event), I can't imagine on what grounds they could deny you.

Best of luck!

Thank you so much for replying! Your advice is good, especially with the layers. Knowing how overheated I get, I will probably need to sit there in summer clothes.

I wasn't aware that I could take anyone into the interview with me? My Mum has offered to come down to London with me and wait in the waiting room but having her in the exam room would be helpful.

I think I might get the doctor to write a letter but keep it in my pocket unless absolutely needed. I just wish we didn't have to do a medical!!

PalmTreesFemaleUnited Kingdom2013-12-09 14:57:00
United KingdomFainting During Medical

Hello.

This may sound strange but hopefully someone here can help me with my query. My fiance suggested asking here as we are not sure about it...

So. Every time I go to the doctors I faint. It all started back in 2005 and I fainted in the waiting room after having a top-up jab for Hepatitis after going to Africa. I remember feeling very hot reading a magazine, and apparently I stood up and fell down but I don't remember. I came to on the floor very confused, had some oxygen and then went home. At the time we thought it was a reaction to the injection.

The only time I visit the doctors between then and now is for repeat prescriptions of the pill and once because I had a problem with my ear. Except for a couple of occasions, every visit has resulted in me fainting. I start to feel hot and then I'm on the floor with a doctor leaning over me. Sometimes I try to stand up (maybe to go get some air) and I immediately go down.

I think it happens most often when they take my blood pressure. I hate the cuff and it probably gets me more worked up than I should be. I'm going to practice lots with my Dad's one at home before my medical. I also feel weird when they talk about side effects etc. The last time I went, the doctor said it was nothing to worry about as some people are just prone to fainting fits (like Victorian ladies used to be), and that my blood pressure drops but then picks right back up again. I also think that psychologically I program myself to believe I'm going to faint as it happens every time, and then I do so. I spend some time on my back afterwards with my legs raised, and then I'm fine to go home. Last time I drove home 15 mins later (after wolfing down 2 chocolate bars for some sugar) so it really doesn't affect me too much.

I'm so so so worried about fainting during my medical in Knightsbridge. We were wondering this:

1) Should I explain to the doctor beforehand that I regularly faint at the doctors because I don't like going but is the only time in life I faint?

2) Or should I bring a letter from my doctor explaining I faint but its nothing to worry about?

3) Or should I not mention anything, hope I don't faint and if I do either shrug it off as a one time thing or explain I have this habit of fainting at the doctors?

Would revealing I faint every time be grounds to fail the medical? I am really worried over this. Sorry for the long post and if you've made it this far thanks for reading! Any advice will be greatly received.

Thanks in advance!

United KingdomPre-Interview Questions

SO I'm just checking over everything again. I don't wanna miss anything!

I have my duplicate I-129F application with supporting evidence. (I haven't printed additional photos (already have 9) but have included boarding passes and flight confirmations from my visit in October, I hope thats enough?)

I have a new notarized letter of intent from my fiance as we I'm interviewing 3 days after the petition expiry date.

I have my police certificate & birth certificate and passport.

I have the hardcopy of the NOA2. Is this needed? I also don't know whether to bring my medical result form? (DS-3025?)

I have printouts of the DS160 & MRV receipt plus courier payments, alongside my interview letter.

I have a completed I-134, employer letter, pay stubs and W2 tax printouts.

I have one 2x2 inches-sized photo of me to give to the embassy. The interview letter said two, but the pinned thread at the top says only one is needed? Can someone clarify that?

Aaaaaand I think I still have my sanity! I would be so so grateful if someone would kindly look over the above list and tell me if I'm missing anything? Thank you very much :)

United KingdomPre-Interview Questions

Thank you both for the replies. You've eased some of my worries. I still think I will be a mess this week and will only be able to breath easy when the interview is over and I know the result.

I'm going to take your advice Nich-Nick and just pay the $30 online and not chance it.

I wanted to ask something else but for the life of me I can't remember what it was :s I'm sure it will come back to me tomorrow...................

United KingdomPre-Interview Questions

Hello.

I have my interview next Tuesday so I'm triple-checking what I'm bringing to the Embassy this week. I'm 99% sure I have everything ready (except the MRV fee) but I'm starting to worry so would like some reassurance if possible! I'm making use of the excellent pinned thread in this forum too.

1) I-134 worries. I know that current income is the most important and that London seems to be quite relaxed about this part compared to other embassies. My fiance got a job in July that pays roughly double the 125% poverty guidelines for a household of 2. Currently, I have a letter from his boss confirming role and salary and six pay stubs. He received his W-2 from the current job stating he had made 18k in the 6 months he has worked there. I'm assuming this will be acceptable? I'm going to print this out too. His old job would've pushed him over the 125% threshold but I don't have the paperwork for that. Does this matter? And I'm assuming this would be OK for the AOS process later down the line?

2) Can I take my bag into the embassy? When I went for my J1 visa 4 years ago I don't remember taking a bag in. Sorry if this is a stupid question! I know you're allowed phones in now but what about bags (my kindle will be in it) and I won't have food or drink with me.

3) I'm going to pay for the visa today. The nearest drop off location is Birmingham. I read a post where you can save some money by paying for courier delivery at £8.99 when you're in the embassy, although there is the option to pay for a courier online at $30. Is paying in the embassy for cheaper a readily available option? Because I don't wan't to leave it to the day and find out that I won't be able to arrange courier delivery afterall, as that would involve an hour + drive to Birmingham. I'm also assuming that the embassy would accept either cash or card for this. Or should I just save myself the worry and pay the $30 online?

Thank you so much for any help! I'm a natural worrier and I know I'm stressing myself out but I can't help it.

Congrats! I have mine tomorrow, hoping my experience is as easy as yours :)

When you say that kindles aren't allowed in...were kindles without the buttons ok? Am leaving for my bus in an hour and need to know whether to leave mine behind :P

sorry I'm still on my phone so just saw the question. I'm not sure about kindles without buttons. I assume if an iPad is ok then so is a kindle fire. I had to duck out of the security bit inside a little booth, pop up the road to goulds pharmacy and was fortunately able to go straight back into the security booth, so if you are told to store it after all then it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!!

Hello!

Had my interview this morning and was approved! Very happy and relieved. There were a lot of people there and long queues but the interview was very casual and over in five minutes so I was worried for nothing. United KingdomPatiently awaiting interview date. Who else here is waiting?

I received my interview letter a day before I was going to ring NVC to see if an interview had been assigned (just fancied randomly checking). My CEAC status changed when they received the results but didn't change when the letter was sent out. For some reason it was updated on the 18th but I don't know what for.

Maybe keep trying with the phone line? Letters can be slow/never received. And if I hadn't received my letter I wouldn't have known if they had scheduled it as it wasn't updated until two days ago.

I'm sorry for your waiting. Hope to hear good news soon :)

United KingdomInterview date - Anyone received theirs recently?

Just had a lovely letter pop through the letterbox. My interview is scheduled for Feb 25th.

My medical results were logged last Friday, and I was going to check my CEAC status this morning to see if it was worth ringing DOS but that hasn't changed.

My petition expires Feb 22nd so my fiance will have to send a new notarized letter over to me beforehand.

I'm so happy to have a date now, light at the end of the tunnel lol. But I'm quite surprised it was scheduled so quick and even more surprised that the letter arrived today.
