No shoes is so you don't bring germs/dirt from the street into the home. The no barefoot thing is so you don't bring germs/dirt into bed.

It's as if your tapochki (those annoying slippers) are magically making the dirt/germs disappear!

This is Tanya's theory!

When Tanya first arrived, she took off her shoes and walked on the carpet convinced she would find the bottom of her feet black with dirt .... HET.
But of course we wear slippers in the house because you know there are a lot of "microbes" and people who spit on the street and we would not want that in our house!
Personally I really enjoy the clean house! After living as a single dad for 2 years, what a pleasure!

The more she improves her English, the more she tells me how much she loves the Russian language ... so much more expressive and beautiful than English. But for me she will suffer and learn this crude and ugly language. Posted Image

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusUkraine Passport Photo
My wife is in Ukraine right now visiting her family. She will also need the internal passport photo in November. She called the office that handles this and told them that she will be out of the country at the time she needs it. They said it's not a problem because she has an international passport and it can be used for ID in Ukraine until she can get a new internal passport. ... In a nutshell: nothing to worry about.

Are you talking about her internal passport or international passport? If it's her internal passport, in Ukraine a little "gratuity" usually goes a long way in getting things done quicker.Posted Image

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusUseful items done in Ukraine before arrival?

We are getting ready for our interview in Kiev Oct 7th. Is there anything we should do before my fiance arrives in the US that will help us through the process once she arrives?

Immunizations and several certified birth certificates with apostille have been recommended to us. Anything else you wish you had done while your fiance or spouse was still in the FSU before they arrived? Thanks

Tanya has been here a year and hasn't needed any of this. Her UA passport has been accepted as proof of birth and citizenship. I did get her school transcript translated here in the US but it was done by an individual who spoke both languages and they just wrote an affirmation at the bottom and I had it notarized.. She now has a GC, SS card, Drivers license, State license for her profession, bank account etc. The immunization record will be written on the medical you will bring to the US so no need to have it translated, it will already be.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusTravel question once VISA approved
I see that you are from Ft. Lauderdale. My wife travels back and forth to Ukraine on Transaero. They have a direct flight from Moscow to Miami FL on Saturday each week. (they had 2 times a week until the summer and maybe they will again this winter.) You can get her a flight on this airline from most cities in Ukraine. There is no visa needed for a layover in Moscow.

We actually never talked about a visit to her city. We met in Kiev and Lviv for a week for our first meeting. It was uncomfortable for me as I noticed I was given hundreds of dirty looks. She explained that foreigners marrying Ukrainian girls is not popular with the men. She never didn't hold my hand or take my arm in public and I never pushed for a visit to her city anyway.

Look, my girl is not close to her family, she's been estranged from her parents since she was 15. I think she has trouble letting people get too close, she's been burned before. It is possible she's not sharing with her friends for the same reason as I am - let's be sure before we shout out to the world. She told me her parents know, even though they aren't that close, and she told me she's told some of her friends.

It seems that there's a lot of jumping to conclusions here and I know it's all meant to help, but please keep an open mind. Because of all the comments and advice here, I'll be 500 times more skeptical rather than the 100 times I was before I starting this forum.

We are just trying to help you. The things you are describing have so many red flags that we have seen here before. I remember a friend here who last year had many of the same experiences as you, got all the way to the interview date and his fiancee never showed up at the interview. She never had him over her house, never introduced him to her family, always had a "sick grandmother, etc, etc, etc.
Please make sure you visit and meet her family and friends and see where she lives.

"I agree. My wife was all distraught when I bought her plane tickets back to Moscow when we met for 10 days in Kiev. She had originally planned to take the train but decided she needed to get back after our meeting, quickly. She didn't have the money and I did. She started to cry outside the Aeroflot office and later told me she was just taken over with emotion with the thought that she would be totally helpless to provide income for herself if she came to the US. We talked it out. She did pay for her train trip to Kiev and I never offered to reimburse her; she was making decent money in Moscow and would never have accepted it."

This reminds me so much of my wife's reaction. When we decided to get the K-1 visa I offered to help her each month. She was working 7 days a week, most days more than 10 hours a day. She thanked me and her answer was: " For me to take money from a man would be as if I was married to him already, and we are not married yet" This blew me away. This then led to a conversation where she shared her fear that she would be totally reliant on me for everything when she came to the USA. She was three years out of a really bad marriage to her first husband. I made a promise to her that I would help her get on her feet here as soon as I could and she could make her own money. I always keep my promises to her. My experience with RUB women has shown me if they don't respect you, they can't love you.

My two cents for what it's worth to the OP: If you have constant doubts, they are most likely correct. VJ is littered with stories of men (and women) who didn't listen to that little voice inside.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusFSU spouse politics

Alla refers to it as "Soviet Union" or "SSSR", I have never heard her say "USSR" Does Tanya? Just curious. The name of our street in Donetsk translates to "50 Years SSSR" and was renamed in 1972 for the big celebration. It has not been changed back. Odd, since they went to huge effort to remove all the sewer covers with the hammer and sickle and replace them with new ones with the Ukrainian symbol.

Come to think of it, she doesn't say USSR. She says Soviet Union and sometimes "my country". She will say things like: "Before, in my country ... " when she talks about the Soviet Union.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusFSU spouse politics
1. My wife has no interest in US politics but then again she has/had no interest in UA politics. She believes all politicians are crooks in every country.
2. She had the exact reaction, and almost word for word answer concerning the secret service that Alla had.
3. She is terrified of the way we dole out health care in this country. I'm sure she would be in favor of a single payer system.
4. She believes communism doesn't work but isn't all that impressed with capitalism either ... except the shoe selection ... "it's much better than the USSR" Posted Image (quote without "the" of course, "it's a stupid word and who needs it!" Posted Image)

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusOkay I am offically confused

Wearing a bra around the house sucks. Bras aren't comfortable, and many women's tops, especially "loungewear", is very sheer or thin.

It means she's comfortable around you, or better yet she trusts you. It's a good thing, let it go.

I know how much Russians and Ukrainians enjoy relaxation inside the home. The first thing my wife (and step daughter) do when they get home is change into comfortable clothes and slippers. They can't understand why I don't do the same the instant I come home.
