US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI134?, I864? DS230?
Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something? I keep reading conflicting things about which forms I really need for the interview in Kiev.
Do I need I-864, and DS-230 also? (if so on the DS-230, do I need one for the k1 and another for k2?)
If I end up not going to the interview, can I simply scan and email all the items I supplying to her or does the Embassy want originals?
I know each embassy is a little different so I'm only looking for advise from Ukraine members. -- Thanks!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAny Example K2 Questions at Consulate?
Yeah, I know I'm in trouble on this. She turns 21 on the 22 of November. I tried everything I could to get this done as quickly as possible, but as you know, there is no rushing the service centers, they do things as they deem fit, then of course it was "stuck" at NVC for 3 weeks before going out to Kiev. I'm hoping I can get an expedite for AOS.
Tanya and I will marry the first week she is here so we won't waste any time (which we don't have!)

The only reason I'm asking about possible K2 questions is her daughter is here now (will be flying back for the interview)on a J visa(no 2 year rule applies) and I'm thinking they might ask her something about either that or some other questions related to living in the States.

My Fiancées 20 year old daughter will be interviewed when they go to the consulate on July 13. Does anyone have any experience with questions that might be asked to K2 beneficiary? There are plenty of examples for K1 but I can't seem to find any questions that were asked to K2.

Thanks.

Tanya's application and her daughter's application said: Yes, with proper authorization ... K Visa approved on both. So, I would say this is NOT a "gotcha" question and should be answered accurately.

I am sure the right answer is the truthful answer. If she intends on working then saying yes with proper authorization is the right way to go. They know she can't get authorization without getting married, so it's not a problem.
I think it's a lot worse if you say no and then apply for work authorization right after saying she doesn't intend to work.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUkraine embassy: a phone call only with no packets sent?
Here is more useful info for you:

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):
1.A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).2.Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.3.Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).4.I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.5.You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.6.A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.7.Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).

Examples: Copies of phone bills, cell phone bills, emails (you can edit personal info with a marker), letters (edit personal info also), stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

NOTE: Tip Regarding Vaccination Records

The K-1/2 beneficiary will be required by the embassy to have a "medical" done prior to the visa interview. Part of this interview will require that previous vaccinations are documented and potentially additional required vaccinations performed. Once this is complete the doctor will note this on a DS-3025 form that will be sent to the embassy. During the medical appointment request an official copy of the vaccination records from the physician (or a copy of the completed DS-3025 if they will give it to you) as this will be helpful to have on hand in the future (specifically it can be helpful when filing for Adjustment of Status if your DS-3025 form is not available).

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUkraine embassy: a phone call only with no packets sent?

I have a K-1 fiance visa application in process for my fiance in Ukraine. My I-129F was recently forwarded to the Ukraine embassy. They would have received it this week via DHL. Today (Friday) my fiance received a call from the embassy. They told her they would call her back in 10 to 15 weeks to schedule her interview in Kiev. And they said she could go to a doctor in Odessa for her medical appointment.

But on the phone they made no mention of "packet 3" or "packet 4" or any mailings at all to her.

Another thing that was mentioned is that sometimes fiance visa beneficiaries have to go in for more than one interview in Kiev, and that in general the fiance visa process was "difficult."

All this seems strange for several reasons. I have seen good reviews about the Ukraine fiance visa process elsewhere on this site.

I thought the embassy was supposed to send out the information packet or packets, rather than just to do a phone call.

Is it normal to say to the fiance "we will call you in 10 to 15 weeks and only then can you schedule an interview?"

And, what about the medical? My fiance received no specific information about exactly where she needed to go, although general mention was made about her being able to go to doctors in her town. And there was supposedly no mention from the embassy about what she should do at the doctors office or how much she might have to pay to the doctor.

On Sunday night or Monday early in the morning I plan to phone the $12 per 10 minute line (1-888-826-2340) the embassy has set up to see if I can get some answers.

There's nothing unusual about my application and it was approved by the USCIS and the National Visa Center.

Yeah, this sounds very strange.
I just finished the process at the Consulate and I made the appointment by calling the number. Pay them and call them on Monday and they will schedule her a lot sooner that 10-15 weeks, I waited 4 weeks for an appointment. ( Unless things have gotten really backed up there). As for the medical, I think they were most likely telling her she needs her immunization records to bring to the Medical appointment in Kiev. Go to this site: http://ukraine.usemb...ov/fiancee.html and read everything concerning the Consulate process. It will answer most of your questions. The medical will cost $125 USD . It is done only at one clinic in Kiev contracted by the Consulate.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionOut of Order? NOA then NVC... deadline concerns.

This might slow the Ukrainian government but has little to do with the visa process since it's a U.S. government issue. the only things you need from the Ukrainian authorities is the police certificate, which she or (he) can get in the home oblast and the medical exam in Kiev.

Once the petition hits NVC it should be on it's way to Kiev in a few days unless there is a problem with your petition. Make sure you fill out the DS-160 online, call NVC and get your KEV number (or wait for the letter), read the instructions on the Kiev embassy website, have your fiance pay your visa fee at the bank, and then make your appointment for the interview.

You have time to do all of this. USCIS will not extend the dates on your petition however it does say the the consulate and do it under certain circumstances but I wouldn't test this if it were me.

US Citizenship General DiscussionName Change during Naturalization

From what I've read, in order to change your name on the N-400 you need to have the ceremony performed by a judge and not an immigration official. According to the source, some field offices do this a few times a year and some never. I think the best thing to do is call your local field office and ask.

The interview itself is part of the test. During the conversation the IO is assessing the applicants understanding of the English language.  There is a great video on Youtube from USCIS that simulates the interview process. Have your grandmother watch it. Also, they will ask her all the questions she answered on the N-400 so make sure you study it and the answers she gave so she doesn't get tripped up.  Good luck!

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship with name change in Chicago

You apply for the name change with the N400 form but you can't take part in the administrative oath like most people do. You have to wait for a judicial oath since a name change can only be granted by a judge. Because a smaller number of applicants choose to change their name, they wait until there are enough of them before doing the judicial oat, just like they wait till they have a large group to do the administrative oath.

Depending on how many people are processing through your local office and doing the name change, and also how soon the next judicial oath, is you could complete the process very quickly or have to wait a few extra weeks/months. Regardless, there's no way to know what will happen until it actually does.

All the best to you!

Correct!

well, i was pissed off at that time of interview when Officer reviewed my application and said " oh you want to change your name but unfortunately we no longer do it here ,you have to go to court in order to change your name" I know it is still have an option in the application it'self but it freaked me out to me when officer said that. That is correct, you only need to write your new name on the form. They will ask you at the interview if the information is accurate. They will also tell you that once you say yes there is no turning back from it.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaI am confused! JUAREZ (mx) -Biometrics ASC

Yeah no worries at all you can see both clinics when you exit the lobby of the hotel. It is less then a five minute walk when you exit the hotel and most of that is in the fenced part of the hotel. There is some people on the street during the day but they have a guard at the consulate. No one was bugging us too much in the morning.A few people asked if we needed any help in the afternoon when we were going to eat they were talking about fingerpritnts, clinics and the consulates but we just ignored them so they did not persist growing up in San Diego and visiting Tijuana,Mexico which I have lived in for the last four years it was nothing that would worry me it's typical of some parts of Mexico people trying to make money off anything just ignore anyone trying to help about your visit.

It was pretty cold all day today very windy and we used jackets.Monday was hot and windy felt like into the 90s.We got to the clinic international(which my wife read was better and recommended by the hotel guard out front,I told my fiancé she should talk to her Monday night when we went to get a snack at the extra across the street from the hotel) about 4:40 this morning there were about 7 people in font of my fiancé waiting.By the time 6 hit and they started processing people it was pretty full maybe more then 50 people between men and women at least being processed.I waited in the waiting room with maybe fourty others. They made all the women take off there jewelry so don't waste your time bringing it my fiancé does not ever really use it so that was no problem for her.
My fiancé and I noticed most people were there for residency not k1 visas. She was done a little after 7am.She said the nurse she had was pretty strict with her and the ladies kind of like a pushy police officer or a border agent who talks down to you and is rude almost rude. But she said the other nurses seemed nice as were the guards I saw and the people processing everyone it was just this one person she came in contact with. She said because she has two tattoos and is in her twenties the lady pressured her about drugs a few different times. But she does not have a history with those so no worries she was just asked to take a Urine test.We were thinking about this anyways part of the reason we came two days earlier cause her tattoos and be prepared if It took and extra day for this but it didn't and the results came with the results of the other analysis.
We left went back to the hotel went to sleep and came back a few minutes before two.The clinic was packed with people waiting for there results. They gave her a sealed black envelope a white piece of paper and a disc that looks like a cd.She was advised not too open anything and just give it to the agent at the consulate during her interview. This only took a few minutes.
The price for the exam was 210 us dollars. They accept us dollars, pesos or credit. My personal recommendation is to get there early like us so you can get out of there earlier likes us before five so you can get out of there faster and go rest. Also we noticed lots of people going for results at the other clinic so both were fairly busy.
I noticed you are also doing the ASC or CAS not sure about that as we did ours last Thursday in Tijuana,Mexico. But I heard it is next to the waiting room of the consulate which is just across the street from the clinics around the corner and another five minute walk maybe.

Well thanks! We have the ASC appt at 7 am on Monday and then his interview is in the morning on Thursday so we figured or monday morning or tuesday morning we'd go to the doctor. I have a question. I've heard that at the medical and ASC they ask for your passport, DS260 confirmation and the invitation letter. Do they keep them? and is the invitation letter the letter they send in the mail with instructions or is it the interview confirmation they send to you online?

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaI am confused! JUAREZ (mx) -Biometrics ASC

HI!
I just got my interview scheduled for May at Ciudad Juarez YAY!!
My husband and I were so happy, until today I called in to set up an appointment for my fingerprints and biometrics. I scheduled my appointment online to get it done at Mexico City's ASC, and I had a little question, so I gave them a call.
A lady assisted me to solve my question told me that my interview date DOESN'T APPEAR in the system yet ...WHAT?
She told me to call back in next weeks to verify the appointment at the Consulate in Juarez . I explained to her that I got a letter from NVC and she just told me: If you're following the instructions, then it's Okay.
She asked me what date NVC assigned to my case for interview, and I told her that it's on may, then she said: So. how come you want to do it now? you interview it's on may!
I asked if is there any problem about doing it too early, and she gave me the SAME answer: If you're following the instructions, then it's Okay.

At the end, she was not very helpful .....I am thinking of re-scheduling and getting a date at ASC for late April.
Does anybody know if I MUST do the biometrics just a few days beforfe the interview?.:help::help:
Any advices???
I appreciate your help in advance!!
THANK YOU!

Hi,

What I did was call the Embassy and they made the appointment for me because I was having trouble with the online system. Before you can make the appointments you have to register on the website given in the instructions packet you receive: http://usvisa-info.com. Once you register on that site and have submitted the DS 260 and made the interview payment your appointments should appear. Also if the embassy assists you with the interview appointment you should receive a confirmation email. If you have already done all of this and received the letter confirming your interview date you may go to the ASC appointment. You need the confirmation letter to be able to go to the ASC and medical exam. What I would do is either call the embassy, or call the contacts on the website that can help walk you through the process. Either way you have to be registered on the site, according to the embassy, before any interview or ASC appointments appear in their system. You can do the ASC up to two days before your interview, so worse comes to worse if there was a problem with scheduling the appointment you can always reschedule it and attend the ASC in Juarez a few days before your interview. That is was my Fiancé is doing, since they're located next to the Embassy. Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to contact with any other questions. Best of luck!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaMexico's K1 interview consulate

Hello everybody,

I have read several posts about the interview process on K1 visas for Mexico as country of origin. I know that there are consulates on major cities in the country, but I wonder if all K1 (and other) visas are processed at the consulate in Ciudad Juarez. Could someone shed some light on this topic?

Thank you.

All Fiance visas and Spouse visas are only sent to the Juarez Embassy. Other type of visas may be sent to Mexico City, however Mexico City is not authorized to do K-1 Visas.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaLong form birth certificate

So. I have been on the phone with people in my home state trying to see if I can obtain a certified copy of my long form birth certificate. The one I ordered a few months ago is a simple computer generated document with minimal information. According to the records people there is no long form birth certificate available. One guy told me it might be possible to have someone find the original in their records and make a certified copy but when I sent them the request form, they said they never received it and I have heard nothing back after calling again and being told they would check on the situation. My wife is worried that if she doesn't have the long form of my birth certificate at her interview in Mexico it might cause a denial. Anybody else had trouble obtaining a long form birth certificate? Thanks.

I have heard that the short birth certificate is enough unless the official specifically asks for a Long birth certificate. Do not order it online, there have been many situations and complaints that when ordering online they don't receive the long form. I called the vital records office in my location of birth and specifically asked for it and gave them a credit card number for payment. You can also go to city hall if you live in the same state you were born, and pick it up personally. Best of Luck.

My husband and I have watched them, and we just booked our flight tickets to Juarez  we will fly with Interjet, since it's cheaper than Aeromexico, and we had really good experience with them when we flied last year for our honeymoon.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaInterview in Ciudad Juarez - is it recommended for USC to go along?

I went and I'm glad I did for a number of reasons.Just woke up from a nap my fiancés visa was approved this morning.I just waited in the waiting room pictured above. She was gone about 2 and half hours and said the actual interview was less then ten minutes.I wanted to go to support my future wife and make her feel more comfortable and in case for some reason they need to talk to me I would be there. It cost more money sure I had to take off work and tickets were not cheap 550.00 dollars roundtrip airline tickets each from Tijuana(we bought our tickets six weeks out). They really take advantage of the people cause there is only one roundtrip flight(on Aeromexico not a cheap airline) and any other options just to save a little over 100 dollars you have to fly to Mexico City or Guadalajara first which would add lots of time to a flight or I could we could take a bus which would not be fun and take me away from work her son for more days.My fiancé is originally from Monterrey Mexico which is an hour farther and we have been there four times and flown from Tijuana and four that price it paid for both of us and her son.So they are taking advantage at least where we live in Mexico for people going to Juarez for there visas.

I was glad I was able to support her help her out in anyway and be with her because of any worries weather it be regarding safety here in Juarez or if they needed to talk to be at the interview or to keep her company for the four days when we she was not at the medical clinic or the consulate.

We will have to stay in Tijuana another month before we can move to the USA though so I can earn more money for rent and the movie to San Diego,California but for both of us it was worth it that I went.

Congrats on the approval. We're flying from Mexico city, but on Interjet. They have cheaper prices than Aeromexico, but you're right. For whatever reason not many airlines go to Juarez, and to take a bus from Mexico city is not worth it. To risky, and to long. I've heard it can take up to five hours to get through the interview even though the interview itself is quite short. I hope we can bring snacks at least in the waiting room. If not i'll be eating a huge breakfast. lol.

Thank you so much!
Yes, I know what you mean, sometimes it just happened to 1 user and that doesn't mean that it's a general rule...that's why I was wondering if it's very common that it happens.
In my case, my husband is a 90% for sure to come over to the interview, it just depends on the flights availability hehe, of course we are a little worried about the safety in Juarez, but it's OUR process and we are together in this, so he will do his best to come with me to the interview, even though we know that he might not be allowed to enter to the consulate.
I completely agree with you: it's always better to be safe than sorry!

I am going to check it out the reviews, THANKS!!
GOOD LUCK IN YOUR PROCESS!!!

He can enter the consulate he just has to wait in the waiting area.

Here are some helpful interviews to help you through the process that another member of visa journey posted.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaInterview in Ciudad Juarez - is it recommended for USC to go along?

Is it very often that it happens that with CR1 /IR1 visas (SPOUSE)?
I mean the ideal is that the spouse (USC) can go there, but what if because of work, or even because of the travelling to Juarez alert, he/she doesn't go?

To be honest I haven't heard of many cases being denied due to that reason. That's just what some people have been saying happened to others, while they were waiting for their Spouse's to return from their interview. I've heard from others that they didn't ask if the Spouse/Fiancé was there at all. If you can't go it shouldn't make that big of a difference in the approval/denial of the petition. Always depends on which official is giving the interview I'm sure. If you can it's always better to be safe than sorry. Worse comes to worse, if there's no way you can get there you can always send your spouse a letter explaining why you aren't there or something along those lines, incase the interview official asks. But I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially if you have enough provided proof of relationship. In that case they may not ask. I learned a lot of the information on the Reviews: Embassy/USCIS & POE on this site in the menu above. You can look at the comments from peoples experiences at the embassy the interview will take place at. Maybe that will ease your mind a little.

Best of luck.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaInterview in Ciudad Juarez - is it recommended for USC to go along?

I (USC) understand that I won't be able to enter the consulate when my husband has his interview, but we're wondering whether or not it's important for me to be in the city there with him. Of course, I'd love to join him because we're in this process together, but it will be a little tricky for me to get the time off of work. My husband feels completely fine going on his own but we'd like to hear others' experiences about whether or not it would make a difference if I was there or not... Thanks!

I have heard from many people that the USC doesn't need to be there, but in most cases, as the previous writer explained if the person interviewing is not convinced they'll ask if the Spouse is there with the beneficiary. I heard when the answer was no, that in most cases they were denied. I have not heard this same information regarding the Fiancé K-1 visa, only for the Spouse visas. If you can, I would go, it's always best to be there in case there is a problem you might be able to help clarify. Saludos-

Saludos

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaUSA visa travel from state to state
Hello everyone,

I heard that once approved on the Fiancé visa and in the United States, that travel within the US shouldn't be an issue. Someone just commented to me that my Fiancé won't be able to leave the state for a certain amount of time? Is this true? It doesn't make much sense, as long as he doesn't leave the country it should be fine right? We were hoping to do a honey moon in another state since he can't leave the country. I appreciate your input and help.

Regards-

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaVisa granted - but how to get passport back?

Hi,

It is the same for all visas, at least in Latin America. You have to go to the site and register or create an account using your information. Once you have this information entered there is a section below that says register for courier service. Then you must follow directions and put in the beneficiary's current address, and the visa will be shipped DHL. It usually doesn't take long from what I hear but if you're lucky they'll attempt to deliver it to your house with a signature. In our case we have to wait to receive a tracking number and consistently call DHL until they have the package and then pick it up. Not sure which would be the case for Chile. I've been told the put the tacking number online as well once it's shipped. Also keep in mind to not open the sealed passport because customs in the U.S. will need to open it first to assure its authenticity, etc.

This is the website:

However you'll have to change the country to Chile, because my link is from Mexico.

Best of luck.

Also you can find the instructions packet online which has all the required information and documents your wife will need for her interview.

Best of luck! When all else fails just call the NVC or Juarez Embassy. rolleyes.gif

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaJuarez interview question

Hi,

In our case I called the embassy and went to the link: http://usvisa-info.c...country_welcome to make the appts.

Once you make the interview payment (assuming marriage visas have a payment as Fiancé visas do) and fill out the DS 260 form you are able to make an ASC appt and an interview appt by calling the embassy or doing it online. It will explain all of this in the instructions/invitation letter that you receive in the mail. You must be registered at the site online in order to put the address where the visa will be shipped and for the embassy to find you in their system, if they are making the appt for you. They usually give 3-4 months to make the appt before her first approval expires, but when you receive the notification of approval, the expiration date is on that page. Just make sure the interview is before then. If you have a case where NVC makes the appt for you, then they are responsible for giving you the date before it's expiration and if they don't you can request and extension on the date.

Also if you are doing the DS 260 you can call the NVC for the beneficiary ID, invoice # and NVC case #, which is required to fill out the DS 260 form. Your case number changes once it enters NVC, so you no longer use the USCIS # that was given to you first. You just tell them (NVC) that your reasoning is that you need the info for that electronic form and that you have not received it yet. I had to call. I received no email and the information I needed wasn't in any of the letters they sent. You can also call the embassy at Juarez and get info too, but they will not have your beneficiary ID or other numbers, only your case number. At least the didn't have it when I called and told me to call NVC. I called them a million times and they're pretty good about responding and helping me solve any issues.

Hope this helps.

No electronics or food. Items that are not allowed in the consulate are listed on page 10 of the instructions> http://photos.state....packetk1may.pdf

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaQuestion - CDJ

Hey guys.

sorry to keep bothering. I just have one more question regarding the interview. I heard that depending on how many people are in the consulate the day of the interview that you can be there waiting for up to 5 hours! So my question is are we allowed to bring laptops to do work and snacks into the waiting room? I thought while I'm waiting I might be able to get some work done. If not, I'll bring a book. I'm more concerned with the food though. lol. Any ideas? I really appreciate all your help! I'll let everyone know how the interview goes this week! Saludos-

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaQuestion - CDJ

No reason for 2 years of bank statements at all. Some people have shown 6 months to a year worth. Bank statements are really only needed if using assets or needing to show any other forms of income you have deposited to your account, such as non-taxable incomes. Most important to show and prove is current income with a letter from employer and/or most recent pay stub(s) sent along with your most recent tax transcript and I-134.

Ok thanks for confirming. I had saw some older posts from people who said they got RFE's and/or blue slips for not have 2 years worth of bank statements. I have all the other stuff and I managed to print out a statement online from 2011 just incase they ask for it. Thanks again for all your help. We're so close! Next week is the big day!

Saludos!
