CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

Hi All,

I already had my P4 Letter mailed last year but the previous original date on January was postponed

So most likely I will not be getting another P4 stating all these new rules on Self DIY scheduling.

I will remain uninformed if I did not hear about this from this forum ( Thanks Goodness) as I may not get any advice from Montreal, that Hey, we dont reschedule anymore just do it online now.

So Am likely a candidate for this DIY re-scheduling Interview online?

If so, am I not causing any conflict, what do you guys think?

i guess you could try it, couldn't hurt - right? :hehe:

CanadaTrouble With Toronto Medical

They said it was because they only had a record of one (I had the record of the January one) and that they wanted to have two dates on file, even if they were close together.

so you had a tetanus shot in january but they wanted two? is this a new requirement cause that sounds odd to me...

so sorry you had to go through such insanity, this too will pass - right? B-)

CanadaLand Border Questions / Ties to Canada
last summer, i visited my (then) fiance in montreal via 10 hour car ride -once in june and again in august when we had our interview..BOTH times i brought an entire trunk full of his stuff in order to get the cheapest upack unit possible once the actual moving time arrived. both times crossing i had minimal harassment from our lovely usc border guards. they asked why i had the stuff, what was in the boxes. i told the truth - my fiance gave me this stuff to take home and it was mostly books and vhs tapes - bs like that. at the second crossing in august, the border guard made me pop my trunk and he looked around. afterward he told me congrats on my engagement and he was fairly nice. i was shocked they didn't question me further.
i say, if the items are given to your fiance, to take home - what's the big deal? how can the border guards legitimately question that? i would go for it...

CanadaDevastated right now, we are in Administrative Processing

I couldn't find her post, but I found another but I guess they were told about the name hit AT the interview. Our names are really not common, at all. Not even my past last names (maiden, prev marriage) I seriously want to puke right now. I just wasn't expecting this.

hi, i just wanted to ask if you were only told this by DOS or if you were told you were in AP at the interview?

my husband and i were told the same thing by DOS after our interview (we were not told by our interviewer we were in AP - ever). simple story for a stressful month long ordeal - we were never in the literal dreaded AP, but for whatever reason (we never found out) montreal took a month to print our visa.

you should try calling DOS again, ask: has montreal printed my visa yet...see what they say. DOS likes to use to the term AP loosely...

CanadaImporting Vehicle (Volkswagen)

I Have a 2006 VW Jetta TDI Diesel .... What year was your husbands VW?

I think around 99...big changes in emissions standards since then.
val erieFemaleCanada2011-08-17 12:00:00
CanadaImporting Vehicle (Volkswagen)
My husband has a Volkswagon Jetta that he had to leave in Quebec because Volkswagon couldn't issue a letter of compliance - something about emissions. We looked into having it "imported" by an authorized mechanic in the US in order to be compliant but it was too expensive/much hassle. Your's is a newer model - however - you probably won't have any issues. Contact the Volkswagon main office closest to you - they will ask for your VIN, so have that on hand.

As far as your loan, totally up to your bank. Orfee got a loan from his bank in Canada before he left - he told them his situation and that he would begin payments within a year. No worries.

Registration of your vehicle depends on the State you're moving to. Check the DMV website for your state and the local City/County office to find out about personal property tax due dates, tags, etc..

CanadaAdministrative Processing?
sorry, i thought you said you didn't get a welcome letter!

also, congressmen have a person in their employment specifically for immigration related issues, plus they're more localized and available to assist - in my opinion. there are only two senators per state and congressman seat numbers per state are population based..

orfee didn't get a welcome letter either. we were so stoked that we were done and everything was kosher that i didn't realize orfee wasn't given one until we were still waiting on the visa two weeks later and DOS was stating that we were in 'administrative processing', just like S and P said. man, those two words can send shivers up the spine - especially when you're outside of the standard print time...

I know they aren't actually expedited, I said "essentially" .... it's how you end up feeling when you see the unfortunate 200+ day situations, that's all.

i understand, when we were at the k1 portion, vsc was slow and csc was faster, right after we got our noa2 - they flipped and vsc started moving at lightening speed..then we finally got to the interview and montreal took a full month to get us the visa. we weren't given any reason why and ended up having to contact my senator to get any information. felt like the longest month of my life. i would suggest reaching out to your local congressional and senate offices. start local. and talk to as many people as you can about the process of legal immigration - most us citizens have no idea what it entails - hell, i didn't even know such a thing as a fiance visa existed until i found myself needing to get one :D
val erieFemaleCanada2012-08-27 11:32:00
USCIS Service CentersEmailed the president...
the majority of the us population aren't affected by legal immigration so the focus stays on illegal immigration. since i've been on vj, i've seen these sorts of topics pop up, letters written, signatures gathered. i've seen people complain about refugees from haiti getting priority, beneficiaries of the dream act, etc..

csc isn't giving expedited service, as you note in your letter. it's the way it goes - the trends with turnaround times go back and forth. once vsc gets ahead and then csc will no doubt pass them up again. and on and on...

Impressive how people have such unwavering faith in the infallibility of the system that they automatically assume "there must be something there" to merit this... I guess blind faith never goes out of style? ;)

it really doesn't have anything to do with 'infallibility of the system' and most definitely nothing to do with faith.

the system is totally screwed - i think everyone on this site would say that america's immigration system is flawed. but getting super pissed at the people who process the visa's isn't going to accomplish anything at all but making the OP feel even worse.

everyone who begins this process runs the risk of being placed in ap and for as many folks who are put there for a good reason -i'm sure there are as many who were put in ap for no good reason. but that's the nature of the beast. once you send that check & forms - you're playing by their rules. end of story.

just saying - if you want to be pissed and indignant and start harping about founding fathers and whatnot - get pissed at greencard scammers. there's the trouble.

katiedog, there is absolutely no reason to belittle the people who work for the government. they are not allow to "think outside the box" for a reason. there is a protocol that they have to follow in order to reduce fraud. while the system may be flawed and some folks are "unnecessarily" put through ap, having an attitude that these people are on some sort of power trip or playing god with people's lives is really very silly. be grateful that you're dealing with kyiv and not a high fraud consulate. you need to accept that there IS a reason that you were put in AP. you don't know the reason now and there's a reason for that as well. your anger is misdirected and is only going to add to the stress of missing your loved one.

United KingdomThe Healthcare Bill

The key difference is that now family, friends or complete strangers can be charitable and give her money to buy insulin. Once all health care is controlled by the government you will not be allowed to "pay cash". It will be like gasoline was back in the late 70's with rationing a limited resource. You will get your fair share of health care when it is your turn and not before.
http://www.conservat...limited-supply/

The government is already banning the charitable feeding of homeless by individuals. Is it so hard to imagine that government will not allow health care with out government approval.
http://philadelphia....ng-of-homeless/

that would be a key difference if it were the circumstance. no one gives her cash to pay for her insulin. no one has the cash to buy her insulin. would you be able to raise $2,000.00+ dollars a month from friends and family indefinitely? your fears concerning the government rationing health care is in fact a fear that people who are dependent upon medicines/treatment to survive already harbor. it isn't about who is supplying the healthcare - it's about the healthcare being accessible to everyone - regardless of if they have the money to pay for it. what it comes down to is money.
val erieFemaleCanada2012-07-02 09:33:00
United KingdomThe Healthcare Bill
I feel sorry for your sister, when the government is the ONLY provider. Obama has stated that he wants to reduce the number of hospitals. He wants s to limit the supply of care as a way to limit the money paid out. It will be illegal to pay for your own care because you will be using a limited public resource. They will eventually have to ration the access and she may find her monthly supply of insulin delayed.
[/quote]

Honestly, this is blatant fear mongering. You're scared of hugely exaggerated "what ifs" and I understand why, you believe what your political leaders want you to. I'm not arguing that Obamacare is 'good' or 'evil', but it seems silly to say you feel sorry for my sister because her life under Obamacare will be wholly dependent upon the government to supply her with what she needs to survive. Anyway you dice it, her life is wholly dependent upon the amount of money she has at her disposal to pay for the treatment of her disease - be it insurance companies, government, the insulin manufacturers or friggin Fedex. And that is how it has been for her since she was diagnosed as a child, no need to blow it all into Armageddon. Every single one of us will be dependent upon others at some point in our lives when it comes to our health, the question is if we will have the money to pay up when our time comes.

United KingdomThe Healthcare Bill

Seems like a good idea in principle but the bill doesn't actually seem to help anybody other than the poor.

I don't know too many specifics about this bill, but I do know that this bill affects my immediate family. My parents who are not poor (also not rich), but work full time and have insurance. My sister is 22, recently graduated from VT and has her first 'real' job as a news reporter for our local paper. She also has type 1 diabetes and is dependent on an insulin pump. Because of one of the provisions in this bill she is able to remain on my father's health insurance plan for a few more years because of obamacare - which is imperative because $2,000 a month out of pocket on top of student loans - well that's just impossible to pull off. Also, when she does apply to start her own policy through her job - the insurance company won't be allowed to deny her coverage because of her 'preexisting condition'.

other than these two things - which are kind of life or death for her - obamacare as a whole is like trying to stop niagra falls with a band-aid. the US healthcare system is irretrievably broken, and there is too much of an attitude in our culture that healthcare is a privilege and not a basic human right.

CanadaWhich Forums Do You Like to Check Out?
i'm relatively new and never felt the urge to comment on anything until the other day when someone was b*tching about haitians getting visas (over in the nov 09 k1 vsc filers forum). i mean, really?

then yesterday someone asked about the possibility of orphaned haitian children possibly delaying vermont's processing. i responded to that as well...today, i've been reading a great deal of posts (unrelated to the situation in haiti) that really just make me kinda depressed. people can be so self absorbed and simply, mean.

i think from here on out, unless i have a burning question i can't find an answer to and all you folks can't help me, i'm sticking to canada's portal and forum.

i'm a usc but the CN forum and portal seem to be comprised of normal folk - the others scare me a bit and make me question the state of humanity. and i'm not exaggerating! not to judge them all, i'm not. just sayin.

really, if it weren't for the language issue and my son's dad, i'd be packing up my son and myself and immigrating to montreal to live permanently with my fiance. unfortunately, considering my son - that just isn't an option : )

then there is the option of a ten hour drive but, that takes away from precious time right?

my fiance has to get his birth certificate translated, he spoke with a guy that has a stamp and is a member of the "translator order". i read folks using the term 'seal' which in my american mind means notary, but i'm not sure what the equivilant is in Canada.
