IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures(IR-1 Visa Form I-130) Certificate of naturalization date and number

Hi to all VJ's members I'm new here. Need some help!!

My Husband is an American Citizen was born in Canada he was naturalized 2007. He came to the Philippines 2009 to find a wife (That's ME heart.gif) we met September 7th 2009 and moved together after 2 months. After a year we tied a knot we've been together since 2009.  We have never been apart maybe a few days a month to visit my family which is very close from our place just an hour trip. So now we are thinking of moving to the U.S. We have everything except for  one thing his certificate of naturalization ( date and number) is in his storage in the U.S which is needed to file for the I-130. Is there another alternative? Or the only choice is he has to go back to the States to get it and go back again here in the Philippines and file for it??

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPlanning on extending my IR-1 visa

Hi VJ's how are you all doing?

I live in the Phls. An IR-1 visa holder.

I already have my visa it's good for 5 more months and now we are trying to sell some things including our car. Even though we price our car aggressively it is not a cheap car and they don't always sell quickly. If by chance we want to extend our visa how long can we typically get the visa extended without adding additional requirements such as updating the medical or NBI etc?

Thanks and God bless us all :-)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTemporary passport valid for k1 visa?

Hello people! i'm in the process for a k1 visa, have my NOA2 and waiting for the nvc to send my case to the embassy in venezuela, my question is this, my passport expires in 3 months so is not valid for the visa, i think you need at least six month left, the problem is i'm a argentina citizen living here in venezuela so the process to get my new passport is like 2 months, that can be a problem with the date of the interview, i have the option to ask for a temporary passport in the argentina embassy, it have 1 year of validity, but is not a digital passport, my question is if i can use this passport to get my k1 visa.

i send a mail to the us embassy here but not response so far.

Philippinessending money to the family back in the phils
Hi,

You are definitely NOT obligated to send them money. Unfortunately, telling them and them accepting that won't be easy. But that's the way it goes. It's mean of them to accuse you of being selfish and cheap. If your feelings are hurt, let them know.

It won't be easy, but in the end it really is the most loving thing to do. You have to be honest with them, they need to stop manipulating you and it all needs to be a relationship based on respect. Sometimes the best road isn't the easy one. But you'll be okay.

Newspaper job ads are good for this. I must say that if YOU have to be asking around for them, they don't have a chance against folks who have been in Manila for a while and are more assertive about their job search.

PhilippinesBEST WAY TO TEACH MY FILIPINA TO BUDGET

I always find the phrase "My Filpina" odd. Makes her sound like a pet, which I find odd. Of course a lot of us do it.. Just saying

Any smart Filipino would not marry anyone who calls her "MY FILIPINA" in all caps, and with seriously questionable grammar.

PhilippinesWifes Family Asking For $ Advice

Filipinos just don't seem to live that way. If money is in hand, it can be spent. After a year and half, she's come to understand we need to plan out expenditures a bit more than she ever worried about in the Philippines.

Carefull with the generalizations man. Filipinos know how to budget. You just married one who wasn't familiar with the concept.

PhilippinesWifes Family Asking For $ Advice
Hi Semperaye,

I have had the same problem with an aunt, who is dear to me, but for some reason she only hears what she wants to hear when we're on the phone. My mother used to send her money when she was alive, but now she is hinting that I should take the responsibility. The truth just is, I am not well off enough to give her an allowance. Just say what you want to say, which Is "no." It will probably take a while for them to hear it. But this is not worth all the stress you are feeling.

Best of luck,

PhilippinesArguments About Sending Money Back Home?

I am getting tired of sending money to the philipines to help my wifes family. My wife does not work to help with the bills. But
she expects me to keep sending her family lots of money. Do you feel this is ok, for the wife not to work to help her family?
Expecting her husband to support all her brothers and sisters, mom and dad all by himself. I am getting very tired of it !!!

Don't do it, especially if its making you mad. You will just have to sit down and have a long talk with your wife. Perhaps it's time for her to get a job.

PhilippinesArguments About Sending Money Back Home?

One thing about most Filipinos are, they ask indirectly. Typical Asian nature. I've heard a lot of Americans say that but when you hear their family say; "My dad is hurt, he needs medicine and nothings left.", "We have been hit by a typhoon last week, house is a wreck.", or "Your sister needs this in school. That's kinda costly."...that means- I NEED MONEY.

Believe that they're not really asking if they just plainly said it and there's a follow up statement that there's something being done to solve it.

If they think you should have done something and you didn't and it resulted to worst they'll say "Eh, kasi ikaw."..meaning.."If only...this would not have happened"

This is so true. I was probably guilty of this indirect form of communication when I moved to the US. But I think I am more direct now, so I do notice this when I interact with friends back home. It is typically Asian. Asking for help directly is akin to losing face.

PhilippinesYoung filipino children adjusting to American Lifestyle

Hello Blue!

To answer your question, they are currently reside in Pateros (Sta Ana Barangay). They are attending a private pre-school in San Pedro called the San Pedro PECEP Center. The boys are doing very well academically. The youngest is on the Honor every period. I live in a very diverse community. I am not sure how many young filipino children reside in my communtity but there are alot of Asian children (Chinese, Japanese, Indian, etc...) and other minority groups here. There is a very good charter school that is part the of school district which they could attend but the public here is very good because of it strong ties to the university in my community.

Hi Michael,

I think they will do fine. It seems that the younger kids immigrate, the easier they transition. It's also great that you live in a diverse place. My very best wishes to you and your new family!

PhilippinesYoung filipino children adjusting to American Lifestyle
Hi Michael,

Could you tell us more about the kind if education they had been getting in the Philippines? Were they going to public schools or private schools? What city or town do they come from? Are they at the top of their class or not so much?

The language of instruction in the Philippines is English and if they are still in grade school or high school, they will catch up with American peers in speaking and comprehension. But the learning curve will be steep and it will take them some time to adjust emotionally and socially.

You and your new wife will have to be supportive. It will make a huge difference too if you make the initiative to get to know Philippine culture. Get involved in communities where they can make friends with other young Filipino immigrants so they will know what what they are experiencing is common.

PhilippinesCustoms asking for deposit in their SMART BDO (split thread)

I suggest sharing your story with the Cebu bureau of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Something smells fishy.

Hi , My mom was supposed to received a package from US it has a wedding ring and a 42 LED tv. The customs are asking for 10,000 php to be deposited in their SMART BDO account. I wonder why they wanted it to be an electronic payment. I asked them to have the package forwarded here in cebu but they told us that if we don't pay them thru the account they provided we will no longer see the parcel. sad.png

This is my first time to encounter such. Can you tell me how can I get the custom fees paid for? I tried doing the calculator that they have in the Bureaus site but it shouldn't cost more than 10,000.. How can I have the package from Manila forwarded to Cebu? and just have the custom fees paid here? I tried asking this to the scammer lady who supposedly works for custom but she said that the "agent" will only wait for the payment until 10PM today. This is really weird.

PhilippinesWhy are so many American Men connecting with Filipina's

THE INTERACTION

The question was: "Why are so many American men connecting with Filipinas?" (The question solicits answers about generalizations and trends, not specifics.)

MIRICK02's answer was: "Because a Filipina wife finds joy in serving her husband." (An answer that clearly assumes that a majority (at most) or a part of the population (at the least) are sought after by American men primarily because they are servile wives.

I chimed in with: "Not all Filipino women are passive and servile, mind you. Have a little dignity, ma'am." (Filipino women I know who are industry leaders and professionals would cringe at MIRICK02's statement. And I did say, "Have a little dignity, MA'AM." Not "Have a little dignity, DUNGBEETLE." There IS a difference.)

THE DISSECTION

So what is she referring to when she said something was "below the belt"? That MIRICK02 is a servile wife? Clearly not, because she is proud of being one and takes her cue from the Bible (paraphrase from personal communication with MIRICK02).

What she perceives is below the belt is that I implied that she has no dignity. The Asian aversion to losing face also amplifies her reaction.

However, if she really believes that being a servile wife is a virtue, why was she so bothered by what I said?

WHAT IT COULD MEAN

This is my theory: MIRICK02 is having conniptions (as opposed to treating this whole exchange as your usual VisaJourney debate) possibly because part of her agrees with me. That promising woman/girl who has been shoved (By whom? Social and religious norms perhaps.) into the most isolated and hard-to-reach recesses of her brain--that woman who could have been something more than servant-wife, that woman who could have done just fine IN ANY COUNTRY--has been awakened.

This is a great example of cognitive dissonance, more specifically dissonance reduction. Here's the reader-friendly Wiki quote:

"Cognitive dissonance theory explains human behavior by positing that people have a bias to seek consonance between their expectations and reality. According to Festinger, people engage in a process he termed "dissonance reduction," which can be achieved in one of three ways: lowering the importance of one of the discordant factors, adding consonant elements, or changing one of the dissonant factors. This bias sheds light on otherwise puzzling, irrational, and even destructive behavior."

i wonder if you noticed that this woman was hitting below the belt, like the words "have little dignity, ma'am" ? now, do i take it personally or not?

I think this is more than naivette. OP may be in deep denial.

OP, bottom line: Has your husband been truthful about a crime he may have committed in the past?

Please don't be so naive.

PhilippinesIs Friend's Fiancee Scamming Him? How to convince him?

Have your friend read through the "Effects.." forum on VJ. There he will find so many others like him who were afraid of being alone and got snagged by scammer women. Unfortunately a lot of those tales are, predictably, about lonely American men, and somewhat desperate Filipino women. Unfortunately, these two types attract each other. He can perhaps, correspond with others who have brought their brides over and are now broke and regret meeting these women.

Here is a link to the forum:

http://www.visajourn...ation-benefits/

Here is a post about a Filipina wife blackmailing her husband for money. Later on in the thread, the American guys think of ways to out scheme what they call the "Pit viper", and suggest to the OP that he lure his wife back to the Philippines for a vacation then steal her passport and greencard so so she won't be able to make it back to the US.

http://www.visajourn...fo-and-the-aos/

So many more horror stories in that "Effects..." forum. A lot of them emphasize the evil Filipina scammer but don't acknowledge a failure in judgement on the part of the lonely American guy.

And to answer your question, "How can you let him know that this is not how a fiancee should act?" Well, it is not normal that he has to pay for everything. It is not normal that she doesn't work. It is certainly obvious that one should not be marrying a woman or a man who prefers to mouth off when a calm discussion is called for. It is not normal that she keeps on asking him for money.

But it is also not normal or healthy that he puts up with all this. This fear of being alone, this loneliness is impairing his judgement.

Help me convince my friend that he needs to leave this girl in Manila. He has an account here, and I will show him my post. I need help from other Filipinas that can let him know this is not how a fiancée should act.
