K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresk1 typo on Chinese police certificate?what should I do?

I just asked my dad to bring the household register to the local police station and notary office. But you are a NZ citizen? I don't know the process for non-Chinese. It only took a couple hours for me to obtain that, but mailing it all the way to NZ takes at least 4 days...good thing the consulate didn't need that in the end :)

Hi Stella what was your process in getting the Police Certificate....mine is ready this week but it has taken a while to get it....lucky I have relatives in China.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresk1 typo on Chinese police certificate?what should I do?

It doesn't take long for me to get a new one, it's just that there's no way I can receive it in the mail in time for the interview :( I'm really annoyed cos everything is correct in the original Chinese part of police clearance, they just screwed up the date in the English translation.oh well, hope I don't have to show it to them. Btw does anyone know if the 6 month requirement for police certificate is cumulative or continuous stay?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresk1 typo on Chinese police certificate?what should I do?

Hi All,

I just received my Chinese police certificate yesterday, and noticed that the notary office made a typo on my police certificate. Instead of saying I was born on the 18th May in the English translation, they typed 28th! Can I just change that typo by myself? It would be inconvenient for me to have another mailed all the way to me again since I have interview next Tuesday

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresConsular birth certificate

Hi everyone!
My fiance and I are applying for the K-1 visa. I am gathering all my documents in advance in preparation for the interview and as I was born in Norway I only have a consular birth certificate for the UK where I am a citizen and live. Is a British consular birth certificate good enough? Or should I get my Norwegian birth certificate translated as well just in case?

Thanks!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresStudent loans

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with student loans. My fiance (US citizen) does have student loans, he does however earn well above the amount required for sponsering me and he's in good standing with these loans. Does anyone know if him having loans will affect the affidavit of support?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewbie with questions on support, wedding planning and I need Aussie friends!

Hi!
You have to have met each other in person within the last two years from when you send in your I-129F and give proof of this.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSpelling error on brown envelop from embassy

Check your visa for correct spelling and correct A number. Same as A-number on your NOA2? Brown envelope name doesn't matter.

Yep, all other spellings are correct, it's literally just the hand written one at the top of the brown envelope that's one letter wrong. A# is correct in visa as well.

Thank you so much!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSpelling error on brown envelop from embassy

I got my envelope and passport with visa from the embassy yesterday, I noticed on the envelope they have spelled my name wrong (one wrong letter) on the hand written part at the top where it says my last name and first name. Everything else is typed and has the correct spelling. Do you think that's ok or should I contact the embassy?
Also the envelope is just taped shut and the tape isnt very sticky, I'm worried it looks like i've tampered with it! Is this normal?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDo we need co-sponsor?

I believe the I134 doesn't actually ask for tax returns although last year's return might be a start.

In addition to tax returns toss in a letter from your current employer along with a few recent paystubs and bank statements / total deposits for last year as per the instructions.

Ditto @ comment that you might be getting a hint LOL

Thanks lol

Although I might take that as a subtle hint that your fiancé want you to get your own place....

Well we already planned to do that as soon as he gets the visa.

Hi VJers, NVC Sent my approved I-129f on 07/05/13 to the US Embassy here in Ghana.
1. I want to how long it will take the embassy to reach me with packet 3
2. I also want to know if I will have to contact the embassy for packet3 or they will mail it to me.
3. Will I be required to go for DNA Test since we have a daughter or can we do the tests and add them to our evidence of relationship?
4. Can I use a letter from my fiancee's employer instead of an affidavit of support?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 HELP URGENT
Fiancee earned $36,000 in 2011, $23,000 in 2012 because she gave birth in Feb 2012 and was on Maternity Leave for 3months. She is back to work and made $15,000 so far thus January to June 2013 which means that she could make a little over $30,000 this year for a household of 4 including me. Do we need a co-sponsor?
Does Ghana embassy accept co-sponsor for I-134? If she decides to ignore the tax transcript for 2012 and submit a letter from employer stating her salary and also a letter from the bank stating her current balance and how long she's been using the account.

I had my interview today. I was able to answer all the questions correctly, proved the relationship with photos, chats, etc. My fiancee and I have a daughter and I showed her US birth cert yet this consular doubts me been the father of our child and so wants us to do a DNA. He also gave me an appointment but then my approved petition expires on 27th and he gave me 28th.
What should I do??

If u r in Ghana, the embassy does not reschedule interviews on the internet or phone however if u wish to reschedule ur appointment just go to the embassy on any Wednesday at 7.30am.
NB.
1. Write a letter explaining why u did not come for the interview and why u want to reschedule the interview.
2. You must bring the appointment letter along in order to be admitted to the embassy.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUSCIS Helpful on the Marriage Process steps

Hi Guy's

I know that all this information is on the forum somewhere but another reference won't hurt. I emailed the USCIS a week or so ago before I found this forum asking a few questions about the process of marrying a US citizen.

This gent was really helpful and our correnspndence is as follows:

Message 1:

To whom it may concern,

Could you please supply me with a contact detail as I have a few questions that I would like to go over relating to the marriage to a US citizen process along with the process to gain permission to be eligible to work in the US. Or can I forward my full query to this email address?

Best regards
>Blank< Pye

Message 1 response:

Mr. Pye,

You should submit your full query to this address and we will respond accordingly.

Message 2 and response (Michaels response in red):

Hi Michael,

Thank you very much for you hasty response.

In a little under 12 months I to marry my fiancé (a US citizen) in the United States. Below I have listed the process as I understand it, although I may be incorrect. Could you please review my findings and correct me on any mistakes. Please also review my questions at the foot of the page.

  • Step 1: My fiancé will submit the I-129F form (process time 5-9 months, approx.), prompting my interview here in the UK for the K1 visa (fee unknown). I understand that several other forms will be required as requested by USCIS during each process such as the I-864.   Correct - your fiancé can find the fee and filing instructions for the I-129F on www.uscis.gov; click on Forms and the I-129F.    If the I-129F is approved, the I-129F will be forwarded to the National Visa Center, Portsmouth NH who will contact you at your UK address to have you complete the required documentation.

  • Step 2: After obtaining the K1 visa I will then travel to the US and marry within 90 days.  Correct ? you will have 90 days to marry your USC fiancé.

  • Step 3: Once we are married I should submit the I-485 ($1070) and the I-765 to the address in Chicago.  Correct ? you need to continue to check www.uscis.gov; forms and the particular form to ascertain the updated fee at that time.
    • The I-485 will be filed to adjust your status from a non immigrant (K1) to a lawful permanent resident;
    • The I-765 is the application for the Employment Authorization card that will entitle you to work in the US.
    • Also, UNTIL the I-485 is approved; you WILL NOT be authorized to depart the United States UNLESS you have in your possession an Advanced Parole Document.  The application for the Advance Parole Document is Form I-131.     If you do not get the Advance Parole Document and there is an emergency that requires you to depart the United States; you will not be able to reenter the United States and your I-485 will be denied.  You would then be required to obtain an immigrant visa from the U.S. Embassy to return to the United States.

  • Step 4: I will need to complete the I-693 with the aid of a surgeon specified by the USCIS. Correct

  • Step 5: Attend the Adjustment of Status interview where I will hopefully be granted a Green Card. Correct

The procedure above is as I understand it but as I wish for the process to go smoothly I would greatly appreciate clarification.

I have a few questions to the list above that I hope you can answer.

  • Firstly, is this process correct and generally efficient?  Yes, as stated above.
  • Secondly, do you have the answers to any of the unknown fee?s I have outlined?  Fees are listed under the form from www.uscis.gov; click on forms
  • Thirdly, do you know the approximate process time for the I-485, I-765 and the I-864?  Processing times are contingent on where the various forms are filed so there is no way of telling depending on where it is filed.  If you look at processing times at this time for a particular office, that could change based upon various factors.
  • Finally, assuming my filed forms are successful, when will he be legally able to accept employment positions and commence work?  One he has in his possession the Employment Authorization Card.

I want to thank you for taking the time out to read my questions and I would like to thank you in advance for any and all questions and information you are able to assist me with.

Sincerely,

>Blank< Pye

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUnderstand the process, need help on details.

Hi and thank you for reading.

I've been lurking here, reading around, looking through guides etx. and I generally understand the process (although I have focused just on the first part:getting the packet together for the I-129F, so that I dont get overwhelmed).

I will continually use this space as an outlet for questions instead of starting a new thread everytime but my first question is:

I live in Boston, and we have a field office here, but I checked on the uscis website and it seems like only California and Vermont offices accept I-129F's.  Now logic tells me that the Vermont office is closest so my turn around time would be quicker but in checking the website Vermont says October, California says 5 months.

So I should send my entire packet to California correct?  Or will they need to call me in for anything and then ill have to fly out there instead of a drive out to the offices.  This is the only part that confuses me.

Thanks again. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTraditional marriage as ongoing relationship (evidence)

On going relationship is for interview stage? If you meant that you send it as evidence of meeting prior to filing then you might need to withdraw the petition and get married in legal court then file for CR-1. Sorry you have to go through this. If you have not send in the pictures but have it in hand for interview then you can omit those pictures and pick other pictures to proof on going relationship

I included the pictures already ... I am going to take my chances because we may have an interview next month. If we fail then will have to go with CR1 ...
