K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEnglish Beneficiaries - Need Your Help!
QUOTE (JackAndWhitney @ Nov 19 2009, 06:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
As the topic said, I'm curious about English K-1'ers. I'm just interested in asking some general questions:

- When I need to get a Police report for my interview, is that a essentially CRB cheque? If so, do I need to go back to places I've lived in the past five years and get one from each Police station? (I'm not sure how that works)

- I was told I need a list of vaccinations/shots I've already had, how will I go about obtaining this? Would it be obtainable by asking my GP for the information?

- And last of all; Will I need my birth certificate for the interview? If so, I only have my smaller original birth certificate, I don't have the original larger copy, will this effect its validity?

Much oblidged to any answers I receive, thanks in advance.

Hi,

Provided that the police certificate is just for the UK, you can obtain it from ACPO in a couple of weeks: http://www.acpo.poli...ertificates.asp

If your GP provided you with all the shots then you should be able to obtain a vaccination record from them which you should take to your medical. If you do require any of the shots, your GP should be able to do them or they can be done at the medical.

You will need the full birth certificate that shows your parents details for your interview. You can obtain it, either from the local Registrar from the district that you were bon in or online from the General Register Office: http://www.gro.gov.u...t/certificates/

Hope this helps!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuick G-325A Question
QUOTE (OnionsJester @ Nov 25 2009, 01:21 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey guys, I'm sure someone answered this before but 2000+ pages.. yeesh.

My question is this: in the parents section of the G-325A, you need to fill in both parent's birthplace and residence.

However, I don't know my dad too well, and neither does my mum. She says she's 90% sure he was born in London, and thinks he's living in Dorset now (at least, that is what he tells my grandmother when he sees her once or twice a year... it's complicated).

So my question is should I put London and Dorset, or should I leave them blank (or put "None" or whatever), or what? What do you guys suggest?

Hi,

If you have a full birth certificate, that will show you where your parents were born. I had to put "Unknown" for my father's place of residence and it didn't cause any problems whatsoever. If you haven't got a full birth certificate yet, make sure you get one, you'll need it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTravelling to the USA via Ireland???
If you're travelling from East Midlands to Dublin and then onto Boston that could be a significant advantage to you from the perspective of not having to travel to Heathrow; could save you a bit of cash and time, plus you'll have a relaxing flight knowing that you're well on your way!

If you're planning to travel to Heathrow anyway, I wouldn't bother stopping off at Dublin or Shannon to use it as your POE.

If you fly Heathrow-Dublin/Shannon-Boston the travel time is around 10-12 hours vs 7 hours Heathrow/Boston direct. There would have to be a very long queue at Boston for stopping off in Ireland for there to be any advantage. On the 15 flights that I've had to Boston in 2008 and 2009, the time from landing to exiting the airport has never been longer than 45 minutes, my K1 entry was one of the quickest at just 30 minutes.

With regards to using the POEs in Ireland, I've had no experience, I'm sure there are others who will give you the lowdown.

Good luck with the rest of the journey!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTouching the Visa
Hoping someone can shed some light or experience here. I check the estimated processing times almost everyday and I'm trying to figure out if the time they list for the 129F for K1 Visa is the total time, or the time until they will send this to the embassy in the Fiancee's area..

Also, I've had my NOA1 for about 2.5 months now and I haven't seen anyone "touch" it when checking this online...Is this normal? Do they typically not "touch" it because they are backed up and then when they do they get it done fast?

Any advice/insight would be GREAT and set me at ease.....Or not....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAddress change affect process?
As a follow up question; I'm in a similar situation but I am the petitioner. Waiting on the NOA2, but I've prepared many of the documents in advance (bank statements, employer statements, etc) and many of these forms list my old address. However, on the 156K I've listed my new address. Would it be better to change my address now or after I get the NOA2 (considering I'm hoping to receive it ANY MINUTE NOW). Also, will I have to update all of these statements to reflect the address change or will it not matter because the date is prior to my address change request that I will file...

Any experienced input welcome!! smile.gif

Does anyone have photographs of the lay out or how you set up your packet? With my illness I get overwhelmed with tons of details and I wish to do this correctly. I am a visual learner so any examples anyone can show me would be a huge help of how you set your packet up. I know we aren't to use staples. If you have tips on the exact name of office supplies you use to set yours up that would be also helpful. Thank you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I fill in the I-29F and compile the evidence
QUOTE (LauraUK @ Jun 14 2008, 10:11 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I live in the UK and my OH lives in America so I am going to be applying for a K1 visa to go over there. The way I've read guides and such it seems like the petitioner (which would be my OH) has to complete all the paperwork and compile the evidence to send off. Now my OH, bless him, doesn't really understand all the paperwork and all the processes. I have tried numerous times to explain it to him and have even sent him the link to this site. He understands the evidence stuff but that's about it. Can I fill all the paperwork out etc and just get him to sign the bits he needs to? I've been really swotting up on it and it would be better if I did it all. Thanks.

Hi, although I am just beginning the process myself, I can tell you that it took a few months to make sense of the paperwork. I had been reading directly from the US Immigration website. Then, I found VJ and I think I have finally "got it"! It took several conversations with my Sweetheart in order for the two of us to be on the "same page" about this immigration process. I wouldn't, at all, perceive your beloved's lack of understand as a lack of commitment at all. He may find the flow chart easier to follow, as it is a tad more 'visual' with less verbiage. Immigration is a complex process! I wish you good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSetting a Wedding Date
Hi,

I read this strand with great interest because my fiance and I are just about to begin filing. After getting engaged, our conversation turned to which country are we going to live in? Then, it turned to how are we going to figure out all of this immigration paperwork? (This is when we discovered VJ, which is a true blessing!) Talking about a wedding seemed like a guilty pleasure a short time ago with everything we were trying to understand with the visa process.

Now, wedding chat has become a topic that brings us joy. And, in the process, we have learned even more about each other, such as how similar our tastes are even with regard to weddings! I discovered how surprisingly uninformed I am about wedding planning, despite having been in two weddings! (I think I always thought that if I learned too much, it was the surest route to never finding my true love blush.gif) I am planning all of the aspects of a wedding that I have control over, such as wedding gown (I bought it already!), discussed my groom's kilt (rent vs. buy?), and picked out my maid of honor's outfit (I asked her to stand for me, too).

I have assembled a binder with ideas for flowers, cake, decor/color scheme. I have been in contact with a priest whom my fiance and I will meet when my fiance comes to visit next month. Although we cannot pick a date, we will have established our intent with someone whom I hope will provide us with a letter verifying our intent to marry at his church. My fiance and I will visit/dine at the two venues I have in mind for our reception.

I hope this is useful. Thanks to everyone who posted their responses. I am learning so much from all of you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F Clarification Needed ASAP!
Hi Everyone,

It's my turn to be worried here.... I just want to be sure about this. I am typing the I-129F and I am confused by two sections:

Where it says "Applicant's last outside of the US of more than one year" Do I leave this blank if my fiance (beneficiary) has lived at his present address 5+ years?

Also,

Where it says, "Show below last occupation abroad if not shown above." My fiance has been in his present position for 5+ years. Prior to this current occupation, he held a different job with a different job title. What should I do here?

Your speedy response is appreciated as I want to send this off to my fiance to sign today....

Many thanks,

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNo Proof of Immunization
Hi Everyone:

My fiance, Peter, and I submitted paperwork for the K1 in early November. I thought I'd put this question out there in hopes of putting my beloved at ease, or, at least give him a head start... The records for Peter's immunizations since childhood no longer exist. We are wondering what the expectation will be on the part of the London embassy's physician(s) when Peter finally reaches this phase of the visa process (God willing!). Will they want him to receive immunizations all over again? Has anyone ever encountered this questions or problem before and can you speak to what that of the US Embassy at London will likely do or request. Peter does have the scar on his arm to show proof that he did receive standard childhood vaccinations. He has his parents sign a letter verifying that he had, indeed, received such vaccinations. Unfortunately, I doubt such a letter would be acceptable with the US embassy...

Your input is appreciated!

If anyone who has filled out the I-129f from the UK can help me for this section. For question 15 it asks for state or province and then the country. We tried to fill it out together but were stuck on this question. He is from Scotland so do we put Scotland down for the country or do we put the UK. Also in the "state or province box," the UK doesn't have states, so do we put the county that his town is located in? thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVJs from Tunisia: Translation and Medical Exam
My fiancé is going through the same visa process with the U.S. consular post in Tunis as some of you do and in anticipation of receiving packet 3, we are looking for clarification on a couple of steps for Tunisian VJs.
Does the U.S. consulate in Tunis require translation of Birth Certificate, Police Certificate, Medical Records, etc.? The documents are all in French. I saw the list of sworn translators on the Embassy Web site... If such translation is needed, would you have a recommendation to make as well as any idea of the fee range?

For the medical exam, what are the Embassy’s instructions for scheduling the lab work and X-rays prior to the physician’s visit? Any idea of the timeframe needed to get the results back? Also are the vaccinations listed on the "Fiche Medicale Scolaire" sufficient (I am assuming that all Tunisian students get the same type of immunizations when in school)?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEconomy and K-1 Filings
I am more interested in exploring the effect financial crisis would have on K -1 timeline.

It was only a few years ago that you paid $125 and got your approval in four weeks or so.

Then came the global economic prosperity, which fueled a boom in international marriages; more money, easy travel, easy communications etc.

The USCIS raised the fee to $455, but that did not stem the tide, they just make more money from the demand; the waite now is six months or longer.

Now situation is in reverse. Would we revert to four weeks approval time?

Not immediately, but I think eventually we will, as applicants drop off.

Some of people already in pipeline may get their approvals fairly qucikly as new K-1 filers are substantially fewer.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEconomy and K-1 Filings
I saw a news itme that all types of immigration filings to USA have declined by almost a half, because of the economy. There was no specific mention of K-1 filings.

If the unemployment goes up to 9%, which is predicted, I don't know what immigrant can find a job here.

The marriage agencies in Russia and Ukraine are already reporting a sharp drop in Americans coming there.

I assume eventually there would be very signficant drop in K-1 filings. Nonetheless, there are many filings already in the pipeline; unless some people withdraw those would have to be addressed, and timeline would not change, at least for now.

I am told that as little as three years ago, when there were not this number of K-1 filings, one could get an approval in about six weeks.

I am not sure if we would return to those, but it would appear to me that the foreign brides matter would be signicantly reduced.

As we all know, finding and bringing here a foreign spouse is not for someone of faint of the heart, and wallet.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresmedical inadmissibility?
Hey all:)

I've spent the past few months reading up on all kinds of K1 things and we've finally stopped procrastinating and got everything together to send the package in.

He's been sick for the past month or so, and we just got the results back this morning. He was just diagnosed with Leukemia wacko.gif crying.gif I'm going to be flying over there to go through all the treatments with him for as long as I can...which will be hard considering I have 2 small children. I'm hoping to get him over here for treatment ASAP but that raises issues about medical insurance:/ Anyways I guess I'm rambling:S

My question is.. he seems to think that even if he is in remission that this will be enough to keep the US from allowing him residency. I tried to research this and didnt see anything regarding cancer. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea if they would really deny his medical for cancer. From what I read, it just seemed to be communicable diseases. Any info anyone has would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kerri

Just because someone prefers to mind their own business doesn't mean they plan on incorporating aspects of relationships they don't necessarily disapprove of into their own. They don't look for proof of love. If they did, there'd be quite a lot of May-December relationships headed for a denial. There's be a lot of cultural differences that would amount to a denial. They don't care if you're happy or in love, just that you intend to get married and not just for immigration benefits.

If you think there's a lack of love in some of the May-December relationships, what is it then that would qualify them as bonafide?

Doesn't just wanting a partnership count? I doubt the guys whose wives die/divorce them and then who get a new younger wife 6 months later are in it for love, but they are definitely in it for marriage. Or did I miss your point?

I was talking more about the younger half of the relationship. If they're not in for love, then what are they in it for besides immigration benefits?

Financial security, stability, get to see the world, seems like a nice enough guy, would be good for my family? Lots of things that aren't fraudulent that don't fit into the the Western romance model.

Actually to me it's most likely that there would not even BE a marriage if all three of the people in this scenario were US citizens.

Which makes it - what? Marriage fraud? Or just a marriage of convenience?

Who knows......

I don't think it's unusual at all for people to get married when they may not have otherwise just because that's what U.S. immigration requires. I don't see fraud or MOC fitting the bill in those circumstances.

A touch signifies some sort of activity on your petition, but nothing that would cause a change of status. Generally, status changes if there is a request for further evidence, or when the petition is approved.

So basically, it means they're working on it, but they're not done yet. I'd say it's a good thing. One step closer...
