IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow long should it be until my interview
It's hard to say, but hopefully you'll have an interview in June or July, maybe? As I said, it's hard to say, but the past few months Montreal was rather slow. My case was completed November 17th, interview will be March 20th. Hopefully it's speeding up again, though. :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhere to get married? Canada or USA?
If you're a Canadian resident, then it's probably fastest to get married in Canada, and then do DCF in Canada. Check out the DCF forums for more info. :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWow, that was fast!

That was fast! When I went through the border the lady said it could take up to a year for the Green Card to arrive in the mail. How bizzare!

The guard I had said it used to take that long, but to expect it within two months now, since they'd "sped it up" or something.

Congratulation, I am still waiting mine.

Well, I entered on the 21st, exactly a week before you, so by that logic, you should get yours next Satruday! :D

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWow, that was fast!
My actual, physical greencard (as opposed to the sticker-type temporary thing they put in my passport) arrived today!

Also, my second "Welcome to America" letter arrived. I got the first one on Tuesday.

Now all I need is my SSN to arrive and I'll be all set! Well, set until we have to apply to remove conditions, anyhow...but...yay!

I recieved my greencard approx. 3 weeks after I entered the US. I entered on March 21st, recieved my greencard in the mail on April 8th.
I would imagine yours will take somewhere around the same time to arrive, so I imagine you'll have it by the end of May, but don't quote me on that. ;)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMy interview Experience

Thanks for all the congrats =)

Chicken...Yes, I stayed at Tour Centre Ville. It was ok but my husband and I were dying to get out of there. Sorry to say but we HATED Montreal. =( We did go touring though. On our own =) We took a lot of pictures and did a little bit of shopping.

I did not try to coffee. But did see the machine. There was a brave old lady that just couldn't resist though. I couldn't help smiling when she walked over there and put in her money =) It looked gross. =D

My move will hopefully be the first weekend in June. I am trying to tie up all loose ends. I will be putting my resignation in on May 3rd. My superiors are not in until next week so I have to wait.

My husband and I are trying to decide what the best route for us is. Fly or drive.

I do not have many things to take. Mostly clothes. As I am living with my parents and there is no real rush to bring everything over at once.

I do have a question though. Do I have to bring all of my things over when I activate my visa? Or can I gradually bring my things over? If I can gradually bring my things, I will just fly upon activation.

I will have to see though. I am planning to have all my dr. and dentist appointments before I leave and looking into EI.

Again thanks again for all the congrats =)

Good luck to everyone that's still waiting.

Sorry to hear you didn't like Montreal. :( And that's too funny about the old lady! I was very disappointed no one tried the coffee when I was there. I wanted to witness it!

As for moving your stuff over, you can do it gradually. That's what I'm doing. I had a giant suitcase with pretty much all of my winter and spring clothes when we went to interview, so I took those down the first time. I've visited Canada twice since, and each time bring a little bit more stuff with me.

Nice n' easy that way.

Yay!

I'm so glad things went smoothly! :)

Did you try and of the coffee from the super-ghetto coffee machine in the waiting room? :D

I was half tempted, just to see what it was like.

Did you guys stay at Hotel Tour de Centre-Ville too? :)

I'm so happy for you!! :D

When do you move?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInterview?

:P thank you the reply from chicken little.

The automation system said that"the further instruction will be in 8 weeks". Does that mean the files are still in NVC right now. After 8 weeks, they will arrange the interview date and send the files to Montreal consulate?Thank you!

Well, yes, but it may take longer then eight weeks. :( My case was completed November 17th, and on January 17th there was still no word. I found out my interview date around Feb. 6th, so that would be about 11ish weeks after case completion. :)

Hope that helps!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInterview?
Call the NVC.

Or call the Consulate once the automated message says "Your information has been forwarded to the embassy".

But I highly doubt they'll be able to tell you anything right now, as they're just finishing scheduling for May, and your interview likely won't be until July/August. :(

Congrats on the case completion!

My case was completed November 19th, 2005. My interview was March 20th, 2005. Got my letter just after valentine's day, so about a month before the interview. I had my medical exam on March 15th, 2006. Picked up the results on March 17th. I went to Dr.Seiden and Associates in Toronto. They were great. :)

I entered on March 21st, got my greencard on April 8th. :)

I also got my SSN with my temporary green card. Karo112, I think you just had a really stupid lady. :(

But you should definitely get your greencard soon! :)

Choice of agent means that the NVC sends you a form and you need to choose a person that will recieve anything the NVC sends. They often suggest to use a US citizen. I used my husband. That way the NVC sent me nothing, it all was sent to him, and since it was not mailed internationally, it arrived at his door faster.

:)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWaiting for NVC and Interview

Hello, Konfuz!

My husband Called the NVC today to make a follow-up on our case. The operator said that they mailed my documents already yesterday, March 2, to the US Embassy in Manila. I am wondering if that means I will be given a schedule already once the embassy receives it. Any ideas?

Thanks and good luck to all of us!

Does the NVC schedule the interviews for Manilla? If so, and they've mailed your case to them, it may mean you've got an interview. I say that because the NVC scheules for Montreal (Canada) and the day after we found out we had an interview, I called and the automated voice said that my case had been forwarded to my embassy and that if I had any further questions to contact them there. Sooo...it would make sense (to me anyhow) that if the NVC also schedules for Manilla, then it would be just like Canada and they'd only send the case on AFTER an interview had been scheduled.

I'm crossing my fingers for you! :)

Jennieh,

*HUGS*

I know exactly how you feel.:( Each month that goes by it feels like you're never gonna get an interview. I'm sorry about the rude people. My husband and I dealt with them too. The ones who seem almost annoyed that you want to know what's going on. It's absurd!

I'm crossing my fingers and praying for you (and everyone waiting on interviews) that you hear good news very soon!

Add me to the list? Montreal Canada. I'm not sure the exact date my case # was assigned, but it was early August, so let's call it August 1st, 2005. Case completed November 17th, 2005.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNew I-864 Forms up

Take a look. I received the old version but haven't sent it in yet. Newer I-864 version is so much easier. I will be using this one ;)
I-864:
i-864

I-864EZ:
i--864EZ

I-864A:

Link to USCIS:

forms

just to clarify..... if one is using their assets as well as income, they are not eligiable to use the I-864EZ? and if they must use the old I-864, is it still true that they only have to submit the most recent year's income tax return and do not have to get the I-864 notarized??
just want to be sure.
thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresyet another question about the I-864....

hollyw,

Income tax returns are handy for showing income, especially since they include various types of income not just income from employment.

Brokerage account statements are good for documenting stocks and bonds. (What documents do you use to know what your investments are and how they're doing?)

Yodrak

hey everybody
I'm looking for some advice about how to go about filing my I-864.
I am currently a student. I work when I can for a family as a nanny, but they pay me directly and I deposit the checks directly into my checking account. The only way I can prove that as part of my income is showing that I have made depsotis into my bank account for the past year or so (i think). But I also have assets that are worth 5x the poverty line (with an income of $0). What are my options? Do I try to prove that I have some kind of income? And how is the best way to do this? Is it enough to show that I have assets that are worth 5x the poverty line? And also.... for stocks and bonds, how do I prove ownership, location and value of each asset together with evidence of liens, mortgages and liabilities for each asset?? These are just general questions.... I'm looking for any advice/information that I can get!!!!
thanks!!

every month i receive a paper statement in the mail... is this all i need to show proof of ownership, location, and value?

I would imagine the assets would be o.k on their own but i don`t really know how you do that stuff. Presumably you have details of these assets and i imagine you woudl include copies of such paperwork.

i recieve a monthly statement in the mail and i can print out a copy of current value online... i just didnt know if that was enough, if the paperwork had to be official or something....

thanks!
