K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEvidence for Interview

I brought calling cards and highlighted my cell phone bill to coincide with the calling card number that was called - but they probably won't even look at them. But more is much better than less.

That is what I was trying to say. Thanks Sam since I couldn't simplify since i'm an idiot. :star:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEvidence for Interview
Take the calling cards? Why not? I sure am going to be taking mine. You can get a phone log where it shows the number of the calling card you have to dial before the actual internationa number and then highlight that number in the log. Match that up with the actual calling card number and have it ready although it is not likely they will look at it. Know what I mean? Better safe than sorry!

From what I've seen it seems K-1 petitioners find out about their interviews with more time in advance than CR-1. You can call DOS too and inquire about a date.

Be prepared to be drilled about it. I've seen this before and they usually give these people a hard time because DR is a high fraud country so they might think you guys are cousins. Take lots of documentation to be safe. I wish you much luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassports at Interview for K1

I noticed that some of the filers of other applications have stated that passports are taken at the interview and then returned along with the visa. For those of you who have had your interview and are filers for the 1129f can you please let me know if this is the case (Dominican Republic Consulate). Thanks for your answers in advance.

They must keep your passport in order to stamp it with the visa (as long as you are approved). This may take days/weeks and then it is ready to be given back to the passport holder. YOU WANT THEM TO KEEP THE PASSPORT!

No problem at all using family as a co-sponsor. Many people use family including their parents. I used my father.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRelationships that started via Social Media

My personal opinion would be to wait. I say this because DR is an extremely high fraud country and the consulate is very aware of this. I also dont want to be a sour apple, but how well do you really know him? It's been 6 months. This process is long, hard, and VERY expensive. It also doesnt end once they get here. Trust your judgement but dont be blinded. If you do decide to file now I would make as many trips as possible while you are waiting, it is one of the things they will want to see if you have known him so for a short period of time. Wishing you all the very best.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresChange of address for beneficiary
Going to piggy back on this topic. I've submitted P3 and am waiting for my interview (which is taking an agonizingly long time).

I'm moving, and I'm trying to read and decipher instructions on USCIS website for change of address and it's confusing.

a. I can call and change my address
b. I can submit online
c. I fill out AR-11?? (but I don't live in the US..)

Do I have to do one or all of these?
And does this change my address with the consulate?

Should I also email the consulate with the address change?

I'm doing this in advance of moving at the end of the month. I can currently receive mail at my new address.

Finally, my P3 (DS-160) will have a different address than the other forms I'm bringing to the interview. I hope this is OK.

Thanks for the help

Also, it sounds like perhaps you haven't read through the instructions for filling out the I-129F. If you had, you probably would have known who to make the check out to. I would not recommend sending in your petition until you've read through all the appropriate instructions. I'm talking the official USCIS instructions that come with the forms, not just the VJ guides. You wouldn't want to send in your packet and find it when it's too late that you made a careless error because you didn't read the directions thoroughly.

Just some friendly advice. Good luck on the rest of your journey! :star:

United States Department of Homeland Security.

Don't abbreviate it. It's listed on the instructions for the I-129F.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresillegal family
She posted this in another thread, if it helps.

Hello,
I just wanted to know others experiences with bring a fiance with the K-1 from mexico, I can read the process times and all but i wont get a sense of how it is unless i ask someone with experience.

Heres mine,
My fiance is a illegal citizen caused by his mother bring him here as an infant, not by choice, i met him in high school so he was under 18 when he decided to do something about it. We filed july 22 2010 before his 18th birthday, they received it on july 23, and we got the receipt that the office received it Aug 3. Since he is already 18 he is leaving the states at the end of october. We do have a daughter together so i am hoping this goes by fast and he is safe in mexico.

My questions are how long from the time you received the receipt to the appointment date, from appointment date to receiving a O.K. to flight back did it take? What happens at the appointment?

Thank you

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow to close my petition
Thank you all again for your support. It does make me feel at least a tiny bit better to know that I have so many friends and supporters all over the world. I really appreciate it.

Nik+Heather,

Thank you for the advice. I think you may be right, and that our waiver concerns may have had something to do with all of this. I don't really understand how or why, but he seems to think that it was some sort of wake up call to make him realize what he "really wanted." He said that he's been lying to himself the whole time, that he never should have proposed to me in the first place. He said he wants to be on his own for awhile to do something for himself and have an independent life. He said so many different things, some of which were hurtful (though not deliberately) and I don't know which things he really meant or which things he just said to make himself feel better. Some things I think he even said just to make sure that I knew there was no chance of changing his mind. He said he can't marry me out of guilt and I asked him if he ever really loved me in the first place and I guess he was unsure. I just don't know what to believe.

I'm not going to close out his petition just yet, I can't bear to give it up. Part of me has a tiny smidgen of hope that he'll realize this was just a mistake, but the rest of me is pretty realistic about the fact that I'll probably never hear from him again. It pains me to say it, but that's likely the truth.

Thank you again everyone, for all of your kind words, support, and advice.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow to close my petition
Thank you all for your kind words and support.

I tried to talk to him about it, I said everything I could think to say to get him to reconsider, to take more time and to talk it through with me. He didn't want to hear any of it. We were supposed to see each other in 3 weeks for Thanksgiving and he wasn't even willing to wait until then to see me in person and work through things. I even offered to give up my life here and move to England to be with him, but he didn't want to hear that either.

I guess I will call USCIS when I am calmer. I don't think they'd be able to even understand me right now through the sobs.

jrmejia, please don't let a small argument come between you two. Give her some space for a day or two and then apologize and talk it out. You'll get through it. Do everything in your power to make sure this is not the end. Hopefully you will be more successful than I.

I'm heartbroken. I don't know what happened. He called it off, says he doesn't want to be with me. Maybe he never loved me, but I sure loved him. My life feels like it's in complete shambles. I wish I could just wake up and this would all have been a bad dream. But unfortunately it's not.

I need to know what I have to do to close my k-1 petition. It's still at VSC waiting to be adjudicated. Please tell me I don't have to wait for my NOA2. I don't think I could stand to see it in the mailbox after all this heartbreak.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI´ll change my name, ¿how long must my fiancee wait to send the I-129F form?
I agree with Ginger. If it isn't absolutely necessary to change your name now, I would definitely wait until after you've done the K-1. If it makes you feel any better you can have your friends and family start calling you by your new name but still use your old one on official documents until after you're married. That is what I would do.

Best of luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is going on in Vermont K-1 visa NOA2 Approval?
There were actually a couple of NOA2's handed out early this month. Check Igor's list for VSC. Also VJ members only make up a tiny fraction of all the petitions that USCIS receives, so for all we know, there've been TONS of approvals recently, just not VJ ones.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is Considered A Liquid Asset?
Though I can't say this for certain, I'd be inclined to think that a 401K wouldn't be considered a liquid asset simply because there's so many restrictions and penalties imposed on cashing in on them prematurely. True liquidity comes from being able to convert your asset into cash in a marginally short period of time (say, a couple of weeks?) without losing too much of its value. Savings accounts, stocks, short term bonds etc would be considered liquid. I'd say 401K's CDs and other long term investments probably wouldn't. But... I'm no expert.

Like the person before me stated: hopefully someone else with better knowledge will come along and be able to definitively answer your question! In the meantime, good luck! :)

I find it's best to tell the truth. If they never directly ask you who you're staying with or who you're here to see, then by all means don't bring it up. But if asked a direct question, you have to answer honestly.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

Yeah I really hope thats the case, I havent visited him since June 10th and I fly November 9th. I will take everything I have as this really needs to be a trip I make!!

I have both job letters, return flight date, car insurance lease thats still got months left on it, phone bills, and letter from my rents to say they expect me back January 6th.

I am going to br bricking it now but all you can do is make sure you got stuff and hope for the best. I will bring a copy of the NOA1, NOA2 ( if I have it then - unlikely!!)and some stuff I included in the packet. Urgh another thing to be worried about  How much ####### do they expect us to take - I just want to visit my OH!!

I'm confident that you'll be fine. It'll have been almost half a year since the last time you entered the US. You'll have tons of stuff to show them if they ask for it, and as long as you're honest and you stay calm, I really believe it won't be a problem. I mean, despite the awful experience, they did let Yankee Love in. You'll get in too. I'll cross my fingers for you anyway though. :)

Lisa, when was the last time you were in the US? I've noticed a pattern at least with myself and my fiance that if you've been recently (like a month or two ago) they give you a hard time. If its been more than a couple of months, they don't question you as much. Yankee love mentioned that they were just there about a month ago which I think might explain the heavy questioning.

My fiance visited me here in Chicago on Friday and had no trouble in customs whatsoever. He wasn't even asked to show paperwork and the agent joked with him. He was asked purpose of visit (vacation), where he was staying (with his fiancee), and what he did for a living. It took about 5 minutes. :D

I'm so glad he didn't have any problems. :)

Oh man you're going for New Years! You're so lucky, that's going to be awesome! We're spending Thanksgiving together and then after that I'm not really sure when or if we're going to be able to make any more visits until he moves here. I really hope our visas get approved early in the new year because other than time off for the wedding/honeymoon, I definitely can't take any more days off for like, forever.

It's funny too because your Fiance is flying into the US on the 1st of October, I'm flying into England this Thursday morning, LucyNY's Fiance is flying into England this Wednesday or Thursday, and then Coconuts (another August filer) is visiting her Fiance in the US in early October too. I guess its a great time to take time off!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

I will be visiting for the month of October and I'm a little concerned with the whole "binding ties" to my country. My job (a casual position) will be ending at the end of September, so I won't have proof to go back to. I am living with my parents and while I pay rent, my name is not on the lease... all I will have is our NOA1, a return ticket, and carry on luggage. I've never had an issue at the Ottawa airport, so I hope everything goes smoothly.

Just a thought: Seeing as you mentioned you pay rent to your parents, perhaps you could get one or both of them to write out a letter as your landlord stating that you pay rent in $XX amount and are contracted to be living there until XX date. Then have them sign it and get it notarized. I know it's not as good as a a real lease but I'm sure its better than nothing if you're worried about it. I would also take a copy of your NOA1. Get your Fiance to mail it to you (If you haven't already) but obviously don't bring that out unless they bring it up first. Don't give them any more information than is explicitly asked of you.

Some other, albeit much weaker, forms of evidence of ties to Canada would be things like bank statements and any recurring bills that you have, cable/internet, cell phone, insurance (car or renters, seeing as you wouldn't have health) or any other contracts or recurring bills you can think of.

In all liklihood they won't ask to see any of these things but it wouldn't hurt to be over-prepared just in case.

I vaguely remember someone posting on this thread (a number of pages ago) a list of things they had brough and from what I can remember, it seemed pretty extensive. If you have the time and inclination you could probably skim through the pages to find it. But anyway, good luck and definitely let us know how it goes in October!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!
So I posted this in it's own topic but it's pretty relevant so I thought I'd post it here and see if anyone has any insight.

I'm pretty sure my fiance has been put on some sort of government watch list. He used to have no problem coming to visit me and other friends in the US but lately every time he flies the ticket agent puts SSSS in great big red letters on his boarding pass. He gets pulled aside for extra security before boarding both on his way into the US as well as on his way out. He also always gets pulled aside for secondary screening at immigration. Always.

I'm wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation and if anyone has tried filing for a redress number?http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/customer/redress/index.shtm

He's never overstayed on the VWP, never even come close to the 90 day limit. Never been denied entry or anything like that (at least not yet! ) and neither of us are sure why he's been watch listed. :(
