Just a quick question regarding the DAS Police certificate and DAS migratorio certificate:

For those who have gotten them recently for their interview, I like to ask: If you live outside Bogota (Pereira) in our case, out of the two certificates needed, can one of them be picked up the same day at a local DAS (Pereira office), but the other one should be requested to actually be picked up in Bogota? Also, how much does each cost and does one just pay for them at the time of request, at their local DAS office? Just want to make sure we do it all right, since she will go to Pereira DAS office in an attempt to get them...

Thanks for any tips...

Joe

I believe you can request both in Pereira, and pick them up in Bogota, if in a hurry, or they deliver to Pereira office, the cost is about 30K each

This is crazy. My fiance went to pay the banc fee for DS-156 and they told her they would not accept her DS-156 because she indicated she was "unemployed" for question 21. The Banc suggested she state she is a housewife... this is crazy.. Since she is single and my fiance she cant put housewife or homemaker.

Anybody else have suggestions.
I appreciate any help.

-S

I answered your fiancée in the other forum. I think is absurd, since the question is occupation, UNEMPLOYED is the usual answer in USA, but the lady in the bank seems to believe that the visa is a tourist visa, and in her sick lier mind, Unemployed is a sin, but now in that logic, if I am a man would I have to write HOUSEHUSBAND,???????????????, there is no logic, is there I suggest to write Unemployed, an write a paper explaining the reason for the answer, and give it to CO, so the matter is resolved for the ones that are coming!!!!!!.

PLEASE HELP...

As long as she has a SSN or an ITIN then its not technically illegal. I've known of people that have done so, but I would advise against doing so due to that very fact. She is not residing with you so technically you are not joint.

Well, I don't know how to really pose this question but here it is:

My wife recently received her CR-1 Visa (Immigrant Visa), is it a requirement to purchase a round trip ticket. I know that if one is flying on a tourist visa, as a Colombian visiting the US, this requirement is upheld.

If I purchase just a one way ticket will she have any problems with say DAS or the airline staff. Please let me know, thanks.

JETBLUE recently started flying to Bogota and the one way fair is $140 to Orlando, FL.

No she does not have to buy two way ticket, however, you will find that one way tickets are more expensive than two way!!!!!!!, so shop around and see!!!!

Well, many of those being employed at the US embassy who happen to be Colombian have in fact given out incorrect info. Not only that, they've used their web site to post incorrect info as well. So it's not surprising, to me anyway.

And I'll stop posting about this since it's a bit off topic.

Because it's a typical Colombian answer. It should be such an important document that should show every trip on it and they just shrug it off.

Diana

What do you mean by typical Colombian answer? That was a USA government answer, and it is very serious

It may come from the embassy but the people checking this documents before the interview are Colombian, the people answering the e-mails are Colombian, the people answering phone calls are Colombian. The COs, which are the US citizens working at the embassy are the ones who conduct the interviews after all paperwork has been checked by the other people, who are Colombian. So yes, to me it's a typical Colombian answer and yes, it should be very serious thus the sarcasm in my answer. These things are serious and so are the documents and yet they shrugged it off.

I have another question about using the shortcut below of faxing Packet 3:

After confirming that the embassy has your package follow these steps. You do NOT need to wait until you receive package 3.
Prepare your package 3 response. It should include the following items only. There should be a total of 5 pages including your one page cover letter.

1. Cover letter
2. DS-2100 (page 4 of packet 3 instructions)
3. DS-230 Part 1 (pages 1 & 2 only)
4. Copy of fiancée's passport (biographical data page)

In my case, my fiance has a son and I understand that we have to fill out a DS-230 form (pages 1 and 2) for her and also him, but just one of the DS-2100 forms will cover both. My question is should I also include a copy of his passport, along with hers? I also plan on mentioning his name on the cover letter...

THANKS for any info!

Joe

You are correct, one DS230 per aplicant which in this case are your fiancée and her son, and one DS2100 for petitioner, in this case you, and the passport copy is per applicant

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview at Bogota Embassy in 1 week...
I am very close to my co-sponsor and can download whatever I need for her, but she and I gathered her 1040s. Do we need the tax transcripts INSTEAD? I just paid like $40 to download the 1040s. (I know you can get them for free from the IRS but I don't have 10 days to wait and she couldn't find one year.)
What is the difference between the transcripts and the 1040s?? I can download the transcripts if I need to, but I am steadily going broke in this whole process.
Yes, in Colombia they ask for the baptismal certificate, but it says on the letter it is "suggested". So I don't know if that means we have to freak out and run around, or are fine with the birth certificate.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview at Bogota Embassy in 1 week...
Hi guys,
Appt is Monday May 11. Thought we were all organized with paperwork and just gearing up for the interview, but then I made the mistake of browsing around VJ, which always freaks me out.
My fiance doesn't have a baptismal certificate. I don't remember if he wasn't baptized or if it's not possible to get. (He's out of the country so I can't ask him at the moment.)
Is this crucial?? In the packet from the embassy, it says "suggested". He does have his folio birth certificate.
I seriously doubt we have time to get to a notary to do the certificate of non-baptism before next Monday and he can't take any more days off work for this visa stuff. Are we ok?

Also, we have a co-sponsor for the I-134 since I live and work in Colombia. Do we also need the co-sponsor's W-2s, or are the last 3 years of tax forms sufficient?? I told her just tax forms and that is all she has sent!!

Thanks VJers.....

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDo we need the partida de bautismo???
Hi guys,
We have our interview next week, May 11.
Thought we were all organized with paperwork, but then I made the mistake of browsing around VJ, which always freaks me out.
My fiance doesn't have a baptismal certificate. I don't remember if he wasn't baptized or if it's not possible to get. (He's out of the country until Wed so I can't ask him at the moment.) When I first asked him about getting it, he just laughed.

Is this crucial?? In the packet from the embassy, it says "suggested". He does have his folio birth certificate. He has never been married. He lived with someone for many years, but they never did a legal marriage. I have read in Colombia Club that this is one of the reasons why the partida is important.

I seriously doubt we have time to get it if if exists or to a notary to do the certificate of non-baptism before next Monday and he can't take any more days off work for this visa stuff. Are we ok? unsure.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDo I have enough time left ??
I don't know if this will help you or not, but...when we received Packet 3 my fiance hemmed and hawed with getting stuff together (relationship issues, blah blah) so after awhile, I just went ahead and faxed the info back and said we had everything we needed and to please schedule the earliest possible interview for us. This of course was untrue--we had nothing ready--but the embassy responded right away (3 hours later) and said they would do so. We've had plenty of time meanwhile to gather everything. And you can't do the medical without the interview appt anyway--you have to bring the appointment letter to the dr and they schedule appt's based on whose interview is first.
I don't want to lead you astray, and maybe our experience has nothing to do with yours, but everything has gone really smoothly so far. We had our interview date in a few weeks, and when it turned out we couldn't make that date (my fiance would have been out of the country), we requested a new date within certain weeks--and they honored that!! (We have our interview in a week!)
So I guess my message is you never know, and give what you think will work for you a shot.
Hope this is helpful.
RoxyrooFemaleColombia2009-05-03 16:54:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIS THIS REQUIRED FOR INTERVIEW????
Is it ok if you filed for an extension? We are using a co-sponsor, for whom we have transcripts from 2006-2008, because I live here in Colombia with my fiance. But I am obviously turning in my info too, and I figured it would be alright if I just printed out the 4868 Extension Request form, with the box checked for "living outside the US" and attached that with my transcripts from 2005, 2006, and 2007.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMy fiance went to Cuba
Ok guys, thanks! It was certainly not that we wanted to lie, it's just that we want all records and documents to reflect the same information. We are STILL waiting for the letter of exits--he got back from Buenos Aires on Tuesday, so we couldn't request it until then--so we don't know what it says about Cuba. With the interview Monday, nothing like having things down to the wire!!! sad.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMy fiance went to Cuba
Hi VJers,
My fiance went on a trip to Cuba last year as a chaperone at the high school where he teaches. However, it being Cuba and all, there is no stamp in his passport and we don't know if there will be a record of it on the letter of entries and exits from the country (which we are really hoping is delivered to us tomorrow). Maybe that will answer the question of how to answer question 9 on the DS 157 "all the countries you have visited in the last 10 years". If Cuba doesn't show up anywhere, do we just not list it, and lie by omission, and assume we won't be asked? Or do we list it and then the embassy asks us why it is not in his passport or on his letter of exits from the country??
Please help!
Thanks!

Anyone who has been through the embassy here.....
We just received Packet 4 and I am concerned about the (insanely long) list of vaccinations. Obviously we are worried about $$ since this is all a long, expensive process--and we still have flights to buy (hopefully)!

Is the cost of vaccinations included in the medical?
If my fiance cannot locate his vaccination records, can they do a test to determine which he has had and which he needs?
Is it possible to request waiting to get vaccinations until arrival in the States, where they may be cheaper and because I have heard that they are not really needed until AOS?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Okay... I sent off our ROC packet this morning. I know that Lorena will have the ability to travel after we receive the NOA acknowledging they got the packet. Question is, if she is in Colombia at the time I receive the letter for the biometrics appointment, can the biometrics be postponed until she gets back? She is still desperately homesick but we don't want to screw up the process since we've made it this far.

I've done some searching on-line and here on visajourney, and have found nothing difinitive on this. Any ideas or insights?

Charles

Charles,

In case you need to change the biometrics appointment, you just have to send a letter with the original NOA (mark with an X the box "request for reschedule") to the Application Support Center and mail copy of the letter and NOA to the USCIS Service Center where you applied for ROC for their records.

We had to reschedule our biometrics and they sent us a new date. Initially it was on May 28th and we need to be there on June 14th. Our letter just said:

To Whom It May Concern:

We kindly request you to reschedule our appointment for biometrics for the next available date after June 11th, 2010.
