US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 OCTOBER 2012 FILLERS
Angus28, may you help me to add my timeline? My uscis is Dallas Tx , my local office is Atlanta. I sent the package on October 24. The check was cashed on Nov. 29. I received my confirmation letter on November 3, and my biometrics will be on Nov. 29. I tried to do this , but for some reason I did a mistake. Thank you for your help.

APPROVED

The interview was very easy! Sandy was asked 3 questions.
My birthdate
How we met
Then she was asked why she did not marry the father of her 18 month old daughter.

Then it was my turn:
First the woman was very pleasent, and thanked me for attending the interviw.
Then asked me to describe how I met Sandy, and to describe a couple of photo's, who was in them and what was the ocassion?

Next she said, your visa ia approved!!! Get out of here and go celebrate!

Thank you all for the support! Colombia Club is the best! Party time c ya all later !!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!!!!! I HOPE TO BE CELEBRATING IN FIFTEEN DAYS AS WELL!! .

My interview is on January 31st, 2008...

I got my blood test on December 27, 2007 before knowing the day of interview, no problem, I never received nor packet 3 nor packet 4, I went to the embassy on January 3, 2008 at 12:30 pm ( Embassy told me that I was able to ask for a copy all Thursdays at 12:30 pm) and I got my packet 4, I had my medical appointment the same day at 3:00pm, no problem, I just needed tetanus vaccine ($15000), it is a little bit uncomfortable the medical revision (completely naked, just with a robe) though very quick and professional, I went to Dr. Roa's... afterwards I went to the bank to pay 131 dollars ( no exceptions) and I did not have any problem with the DS 156 (filled out in Spanish according to previous experiences), just I added two things: "Quién pagará los gastos del viaje? (question 28) the response: " Yo misma" and I added ""recursos propios", and "Viajo sola" in the Question 34.

The Embassy received my case on December 17,2007 f, I sent the packet 3 on December 18, December 19 again by fax and mail…when we called to DOS and we did not get any news about the receipt of the fax I sent it again on December 26 and called the same day to the Embassy and they checked and reported the fax as received...two days later our interview was scheduled for January 31,2008...

Congratulations on this new stage of your life guys!!!!

Just drop by to share the good news with you: OUR VISA WAS APPROVED. The interview last few minutes, three questions: how many times have your fiancé has visited you, how many times have you visited him and where did you live while doing your masters degree in USA. Did not ask for any evidence and everything was in Spanish. I will post more details latter on.

It was nice meeting some people from VJ, please let us now how it went for you guys!!!

Congratulations guys! what a great way to start the new year!!! I am looking forward to hearing from Byron the same news!!!

My interview was scheduled on January 31st!! I hope to be celebrating my approval in a month!!!

So picking up the visa from the Domesa office is definitely not an option?

Oh Scott and Yenifer: congratulations!!!! The best for you guysss….

Ok, my NOA2 dated November 19,2007 was received for Marc by mail on November 24, it arrived to NVC on December10,2007 and left today December 12, 2007…

Please note that my case was never updated on USCIS web site, it is still "received and pending", just 2 touches, no emails, no online updating, just the hard copy…

So, it is cominggg, I'm going to wait until Monday to call DOS and find out if the Embassy already received it and when in order to use the shortcut two working days later after this date… so…I think that in 15 days I am going to know my appointment day….

Thanks VJ forum for all the support you have provided us….thanks you all...

Not at all, the medical examination is valid for a year, I talked with the assistant of Dr. Roa (Luz Stella) and she told me that I can get my medical examination even 20 days before the interview at the Embassy, people used to do this step 2 o 3 days before interview because do not live in Bogotá and of course they just spend here the days that they need to the examination and the interview......I live in Bogotá so as soon I get my package 4 I am going to schedule my medical appointment ASAP as well....

You are right Byron!, I called to Dr. Roa's (Telf +571- 2151763-6589365) and talked with Nubia (Luz Stella is on vacation) and they told me that they are not longer asking for the appointment letter of the embassy to get my medical examination, I just need:

-Passport
-$135.000
- Vaccination certificate
-Photo 5x5 marked with my name

I called to the Laboratory (telf. +571- 2327272) as well and there I just need:

DOMESA WOULD NOT ALLOW US TO PICK UP AT OFFICE, THEY TOLD US IT MUST BE DELIVERED TO A ADDRESS, THATS WHAT THEY TOLD US ANYWAYS. My wife had her interview today and everything went PERFECT!!!!
sorry I don't keep up with the website much everyone!!! yes.gif

Scott - I hope this helps, but we have run into the same problem with the passport delivery. We are scheduled to fly home in a little over a week and this Domesa surprise is a hassle to say the least. The embassy said to allow at least 8-10 working days for delivery!!! My wife went with the option of picking it up at the Domesa office in Bogota. We will call next Wed. or Thurs. to see if it's ready. I did some investigating on the Domesa website and it says the normal delivery time from the embassy to their office is 7 days. I really hope it comes in time for our flight otherwise it looks like we are going to pay the reticketing fees.

kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif CONGRATULATIONS EEDDWWIINN!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

Please let us know the date of your interview and the day that DOMESA receives the visa package to give us all an approximate time frame.
Was there anyone at the embassy that could answer specific questions like : How long does it actually take to process the visa packet and put it in DOMESA's hands?

It used to be two days for the beneficiary receive it in person at the embassy...if it is still two days to "DOMESA" then it will be almost as convenient as it used to be...we can only hope!!! innocent.gif

She asked the same question at the embassy, they said it would be 8-10 working days. My estimates however are more along what you are thinking. Now don't take my word for it but I think it should be around 48 hours to have the visa ready at the embassy and then another day or two for Domesa to pick it up. I am hoping they will have it ready for pick up by Thursday. I will let you know as soon as we find out keep your fingers crossed! Thanks

Hi Lucho,

1. Do we have to fax the complete DS230 (part 1 and 2) or just part 1? signed or not signed?? the Embassy says: complete and sign...

2.Do we have to submit the complete DS230 (part1 and 2) the day of our interview again? or just part 2

Please confirm if this is the right DS 230 we have to fax (taken from Us Embassy web page, part 1 and 2):

http://bogota.usemba...wwfcds230en.pdf

Hi Yazz,

The DS230 is broken up in 2 parts, each part consists of 2 pages.
Part 1 = pages 1 and 2
Part 2 = pages 3 and 4

1. Fax only part 1 of the DS230 signed(pg 1 and 2)
2. The CO never asked us for our DS230 and I have never heard of a case where someone else was asked for it. However the wording in the packet 3 is tricky and I like to play it safe, so we took an unsigned DS230 part 1 to the interview but did not turn it in. We brought it along just incase the CO asked for it. (Notice that packet 4 makes no mention of it)

Just play it safe, take it with you but dont give it to them unless they ask for it. The following contradicting quotes from packet 3 creates a bit of confusion on wether to take the DS230 to the interview and wether to sign it. The first 2 quotes contradict the last 2 quotes.

Packet 3 quote
QUOTE
As soon as you have obtained ALL the documents that are required to process your
case, you must complete and sign Forms OF-169 and DS-230, as attached. Send these
forms to the Embassy to the following address:

Packet 3 quote
QUOTE
This letter will be sent to you by the Colombian national mail
system within 4 to 6 weeks after the Embassy has received the signed forms OF-169 and DS-
230.

Packet 3 quote
QUOTE
Fill out two (2) Forms DS-156 (Nonimmigrant Visa Application), one (1) Form DS-156K
(Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application) and one (1) Form DS-230 Part I (Application for
Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration – Biographic Data). You must answer all questions. If
your children are applying for a visa with you, each must completely fill out two (2) Forms DS-
156 and one (1) Form DS-230 Part I.
You must complete all the information requested in the above forms. Presenting
incomplete documentation will cause delays in your visa processing. Do not sign the
above forms until you are told to do so.

Packet 3 quote
QUOTE
Also attached: Form DS-230
(Completed but not signed)

Dear Lucho:

Thank you but thank you very much for your valuable response.. ! As you could see, the instructions are not completely

Eric,
Not quite exactly, but close. Once NVC receives your approved petition from VSC, they will assign a BGTXXXXXX case number and then mail it off to the embassy in Bogota. Your fiance will submit packet 3 to the embassy once the embassy receives the case from NVC.

Fax only the items listed below. Should only be a total of 5 sheets, nothing more.
1. Cover letter
2. Copy of fiancée's passport (biographical data page)
3. DS-230 Part 1 (pages 1 & 2)
4. OF-169

Hi Lucho,

I am reading the following link taken from the web page of the US Embassy placed in Bogotá (Dated September 2007):

http://bogota.usemba...ionseng-_2_.pdf

I am confused regarding to the DS-230 (sorry but some times they do a good job confusing us, don´t they? , could you help me with this queries:

1. Do we have to fax the complete DS230 (part 1 and 2) or just part 1? signed or not signed?? the Embassy says: complete and sign...

2.Do we have to submit the complete DS230 (part1 and 2) the day of our interview again? or just part 2

How does this form work?? may be I have a lot of information in my mind respect to this process and as they are changing of instructions all the time (at the beginning I had other packet3 instructions taken from the US embassy web page as well but it was updated recently)

Thanks a lot Lucho for your support...

For all of you newer folks...just so you know...there is no "official" cover letter. Just write one. It's easy. You should already have experience writing a cover letter to go with your I-129F.

Here's some suggestions for content:

1) Date of fax/mailing
2) Addressed to embassy visa section
3) Your BGT case number
4) Statement of what you are requesting (an interview)
5) Summary of documents that are included
6) Method of contacting the beneficiary and petitioner (phone number and e-mail)
7) Signed by petitioner

Good luck,
Mike

Husband goes in at 5:50PM and leaves at 7:30PM. I waited at the next cafeteria waiting for him and was asked to give up the table I was sitting in because I was there for over an hour. So then my husband comes out and says "that jerk asked 22 people from the medical to come back and have their shots re-taken" 22!!!!!!!!!!!!! He told a lady from Medellín who was there with her sons that they needed all shots even though they had taken them at the Cruz Roja a couple of weeks ago. My husband only "needed" one. Now if he had 22 people come back for shots and told them they couldn´t go anywhere else to get them, you do the math, all of that equals $$$$. I´m only telling you our story so you´re ready. Tell your SOs to get their shots no earlier than a week in advance just in case and it´s up to you to go see this Roa guy. It was a total nightmare.

Anyway, we´re getting ready for the interview. The apartment is awesome, we have it all to ourselves and we´re very comfortable, so thanks to Lucho for the reference.

I forgot to congratulate everyone else, specially Scott!!!! And did Byron get his NOA2 yet, I don´t think I read that in here but then again I´m always in such a rush at these places.

See ya guys!!!

Diana

Diana:

We are still waiting for an interview appointment. Our package 3 response was received by the embassy on Dec 28. Did anyone who sent in their response at about the same time or later receive an appointment yet?

Thanks!

I sent my pack 3 in dec 27th. I have my appointment in feb 4. My fiance called to DOS. But I have not got my pack 4.

Hmmmm. That is the same day I sent our response. How long have you known about the appointment? Ours is still not scheduled. I call DOS once or twice each day.

Ups! that is weird, my fiance called to DOS in jan 8, That day we knew about our appoiment day. After 12 days.

What city are you from? My husband is from Medellin and he never received package 4, he called the embassy and they told him to send a notified letter and have someone to pick it up for him in Bogota, this person then went to the embassy on a Thursday (only day the embassy allows the package to be pick up) and sent it to my husband by Servientrega, he received it the next day, my husband is in Bogota already, his appointment is on Monday Jan. 14 and he never received the package, so just be careful and don't leave it for the last minute, also, on Wednesday when he went to the laboratory to have her blood text and X-ray done, he was talking to a couple of people that had received the package on Monday andt their appointment was set for today.

Thanks to this website, and all the posts, we were able to make it to have everything ready, 'cause the lawyer just charged his money and didn't care for anything else.

Good luck ..... Ana rose.gif

If you buy tickets this late in the game, they will cost you an arm and a leg. You need to get them months in advance, even though you might get lucky and get a good fare later on. But why gamble?

Yes, l agree. Maybe we were very naive and tought that l would be there fro xmas but with USCIS you do not even know. He came here only for 1 week in april and our conection was amazing. En cuestiones del amor y del corazon nadie manda. We are a little bit worry becuase of the little time he was here maybe the CO can say it was too short. Pero como te dije en el corazon y en el amor es difícil mandar, Nosotros hablamos tooooodooos los santos dias por skype mas de una hora. We are always in touch every single day. He likes to call me everyday in my lunch time. My situation here is good, l have very good job and l was student in USA l dont know if this is good for the case....
Only God knows.
Ok l wish for everyone and l hope you Have a nice marriage. smile.gif. Thank you for everything!

God this process is sooo hard!!!!!!

I went through a miscarriage and my Leidy is in the hospital because she is having a hard time breathing due to her asthma....she is under anestesia and has tubes down her throat!!

I am suffering here so far away and feel so helpless not being able to be by her side!!!

I'm dying....God please protect her and let everything be ok....

As Buck said, it's hard enough to maintain a long-distance relationship when everything is going well. It's more than difficult when there are problems. My best to you and Leidy. I hope she gets well really soon.

Thank you parkpapa...I actually just spoke to her, she is still in the hospital but at least they are moving her from the Intensive care unit and giving her a regular room....Im not sure how long she has to stay but it was so good to hear her voice again...I really felt like i might lose her this saturday when it happened becaue her sister was crying to me when she was explaining what was happening....Thank you everyone for your prayers!!

I know how you feel Byron becuase my fiance had a surgery a month ago and l was SO worried about him and l could not help and to be close to him when he really need me. I asked God for him and prayed ALOT. I really wish that everything is doing good for you and Laidy.

Lets keep in mind that the COs at Bogotá aren't exactly the most trusting of folks. Ask around how they do B visas there.

Wife's cousin has a very good government job. She spent a summer in the US at a kids' camp as a counselor. Went back home. Applied now for a tourist visa and got rejected because the CO said she's young (25) and pretty and would likely make a gringo marry her. She will be appealing this decision.

Hal,

I've heard that it can be very tough to get that precious tourist (B?) visa. My fiance had one for 5 years, then got it renewed a second time for another 5 years. About 6 months after that second renewal, she applied for a tourist visa for her son- at my request- just so he could come to the U.S. for a visit. Well, not only did they deny his, which we figured they may anyway- but we thought "no harm, no foul" However, they also decided to revoke her visa on the spot. I guess asking for the son was a huge red flag- hence me here for the K1 process....

I didn't realize that you could "appeal" those tourist visa decisions, just thought you had to re-apply?

Yeah that was just silly. To be honest... it was your request that likely set off the dumba$ at the embassy to do so. Did you have your USCIS paperwork in process?

Yes... there is an appellation process... the CO was pretty rude apparently... told her to not even think about appealing. Kind of weird.

At the time she got her visa pulled, I had not started the K1 process at all. She had come to the U.S. to visit several times over the years she had the tourist visa. After I met her (online) she came twice to see me in the U.S. I am thankful she at least had a chance to see where I live and meet my family, on the tourist visa. I'm guessing for many people on VJ, coming for the first time to U.S. is only after a K1 or K3 is issued, not being able to ever get a tourist visa....

In underline I think is the reason your 'invitation letter' became an issue for the embassy. I find it pretty amazing they'd be so untrustworthy, even though the current system is understandable.

If tourist visas of this type could come along with temporary sponsorship requirements... where instead of an invitation letter you'd have an affidavit of support and guarantee of leaving the US at or before expiry of the tourist visa with consequences on the USC and visitor doing the sponsorship if the visa is violated... then we'd be talking about a lot more honest approvals for tourists that would otherwise be discriminated against in places like Colombia.

That would be a much more fair system and IMO would actually cut down on visa overstays- ironically making it easier for the embassy people to work.

Hal,

Good points! In my case, I didn't send any kind of an invitation letter or have any contact with the Bogota embassy at all. I just suggested to her to go and apply for a tourist visa for her son, since she already had one. So, the embassy knew nothing about me....the son got shut down, (which we kinda figured may happen) and they decided to revoke her visa on the spot (which we had no idea would happen). In hind sight, I guess they figured she was gonna head to the U.S. with her son and never return- even though she had been to the U.S. several times and never over-stayed a visit or anything......

Joe

Oh I thought there was some kind of letter involved... which in the case of a single male 'inviting' a female with her son as tourists does have a slight connotation of something more than tourism... but still... there is a line the CO shouldn't cross in assuming unless they are telepathic... and trust me they're not!

It does seem really fishy they'd revoke her tourist visa too. How unfortunate she couldn't fight that at the time as it does seem a bit odd.

Yes, it was quite a shock. I will say that she told me the CO said something to her about me sending money thru Western Union- they knew about that, so then they asked her about me at that point- I'm guessing that sealed it... Is it a pretty extensive background check on a person that is performed before the tourist visa interview? Similar to what they do before a K1 or K3 interview as well?
Is it pretty much up to the individual CO that is standing there dealing with you, as to which (yay or nay) "rubber" stamp gets slammed down?

Joe

Well the rubber stamp is handle by someone who is human, and follows some loose rules that essentially tell him not to give visas, because the burden of proof is on the applicant. He has to assume that the applicant is a potential immigrant, therefore it is totally up to him (her). On the contrary when the law requieres them to justify, it is a different thing, especially if there is a citizen involved, Visitors visas are vulnerable, but if you are denied, and appeal, maybe someone will take a second look, and, the denying CO might get a tick mark in his folder, (an oh ######! erases 1000 ataboys!). So if you think this was arbitrary, appeal. You do not have to be right. Let me tell you a little story, I went to get my learners permit in Kingston NY, the lady decided that my passport was not valid, and the visa was not valid, and since my alien card did not have my mothers name, it was not valid either, I told her to show me the rule, she went to her boss who also sided with her, I show them the rule in the pamphlet, they call the supervisor, she called immigration and Albany and they had to accept it. They were just stupid, they did not know the rules, If I had accepted they word, I would have to wait a year to change my Alien card name(if ever). Appeal.

Not OT at all Diana!

It may be of importance to some of us here.

Some countries make very strict rules about this sort of thing... the US is technically NOT one of them although they tell naturalizing citizens to drop any foreign citizenship. How this is expected to be 'legit' is a bit odd since there is no centralized 'drop your citizenship' place where people do this unless they formally renounce in front of a consular officer.

I have heard that Colombians can have two... Colombia and the other country. But right off the back I know this to be untrue since a few of my wife's relatives have 3... (Colombia, Spain, 3rd country). And I have work colleagues that have more than 2/3 nationalities as well.

Colombia allows 2 nationalities, and does not required to renounce to any other, now, if we go to war with Venezuela, I wonder what will happen, You right, many colombians have multiple nationalities, including USA, an European, it is a matter of convenience for each individual, for retirement payments, for job hopping, etc.
