Oooo... new game to get the OP's mind off worrying.... the Whats Tormenting me today game? Lets see....

1. That I accidentally hit "reply all" on an explicit or snarkey email
2. Being it is throwback Thursday on FB someone will post an old photo of me looking good and think "wow she looks terrible now"
3. I think my milk this morning was expired, will I get sick?
4. I think the gift bag I used for a party last week was the same bag she gave me last year... Is that rude?

Anyway... No reason to think you would be denied...

You are allowed phones and even tablets at LDN now! But I agree with the rest.

Great... I see it now... Phone be blowin' up every 5 seconds during the interview and he says "Hold on for second sir, I have to calm my neurotic fiancé in the usa down before we can continue with the interview" and uscis be like "man u sure you want me to put this visa in there"?

You have already gone through the experience of being certain he was denied at medical... So you have an idea of what it will feel like. Trains notoriously have bad connections, he will check in when he arrives. Keep in mind, at the interview to,or row, they will take his cell phone... So,if he does not answer, it is cause he will not have his phone. Just thought I wold pre-empt that panic attack...

Exactly... IT'S LONDON... Not Lagos or Guyaquil or other high-fraud consulate! Chill and just present your case.. The only denials out of UK have been for past criminal offenses, or drug offenses, not for questioning relationship... London is a cake walk for bonified relationship questions and rarely have issues...

United Kingdomwhat do you do?
While waiting for EAD, A friend of mine bought a sewing machine and made these little pouches that could tie onto walkers of the elderly people for thier stuff and gave them to local nursing homes. The sewing kept her busy. She also knitted scarves and a few blankets. Eventually, after getting her EAD she parlayed that into a side business where she goes to the local market on the weekends and sells the knitted stuff and the doggie scarves and thises kitchen towels with knitted top that can button onto the stove/cabinets. She earns OK $$$ on the side of her regular job now doing that...

United KingdomWill a return flight affect my Immigration process
You can cancel it with no problem... No worries about any no fly BS... Don't worry... But seems it is now important to cancel the (or move) the return flight as it has caused problems when airlines have shoddy reporting.... (Even though fundamentally I don't believe you should be required to give airlines the ability to resell a seat that you paid for, like they get double pay for one seat... The whole scam ticks me off)... Anyway... No worries

christeenFemaleItaly2010-01-05 00:07:00
Russia, Ukraine and BelarusThe cat rant and rave
To the OP... I know this is a regional forum, however I feel compelled to add my .02 cents

I am very happy to hear that after the ranting and pissy fit about the cat, you decided to give a little on the subject... Since she is giving up her family and friends to come over here, I say it is good to bite the bullet and dont make her leave behind the cat too! It is a proverbial "straw" and I think somehow represents a link to her family and life over there...

As far as taking the lead and not giving up ground... Not speaking in terms of what works for East European relationships, but Perhaps it might help to think of things in these terms.... A marriage is a partnership and each person has different things that they are good/bad at... Just like a business partnership there are subjects and areas which one will be good at and naturally be the leader whereas the other would take a supporting role... Yes marriage is 50/50 but not in EVERYTHING... Some things are 80/20, 60/40 etc.. etc... But it is the end sum that it important, not being the chief in every role...

So my best advice is to talk and observe and find out what each others strengths and weaknesses are and assign responsibility for those tasks/roles accordingly... For example, my husband sucks at organizing things like trips, flights and details, things that I am great at.. .So those things I take on a 90/10 role and do most of that... However my husband is great with numbers and does the bills, investments, budgeting etc... he takes on an 90/10 role for that... in the end it works out...

But you cannot be the best at everything, just try to keep in mind the nature of a partnership and what each of you bring to the table... A strong man OK, fine, however dont get a Custer stance and to hell with logic and your partners possibly more intuitive input and forge ahead... If you have a "my way or the highway" stance, eventually the highway will win.

No such animal as sponsorship... The letter can attest why they want to visit and even that you will be financially footing the bill, however, everything SMR said is a very accurate and comprehensive overview of the tourist visa situation...

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusHelp, child stolen by wife in Russia

No, it is NOT.

Each parent as a legitimate right to the child, until a court order specifies otherwise.

It may not be nice to take your child away without your spouse's permission, but it is completely legal and the police are just going to tell him to pound sand until he makes his move in court.

YES IT IS.....! If the parent is refusing to return with the child after the agreed upon time frame for the so,e purpose of keeping the child from the other parent that is abduction... Plain and simple.... And advising him to just go and "abduct " the child back is reckless and terrible advice... As Harpa said, a lawyer experienced in international (Russia specific) custody as well as a divorce lawyer is needed ASAP...

Yes it is child abduction and you need a lawyer... FAST... Gonna be a big expensive fight... Don't sweat he $500 as that is communal funds... But refusing to return with ur baby is abduction...

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAppropriate gifts for Mexican family?
QUOTE (::: kanaiyo::: @ Oct 21 2009, 11:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
make sure you get gifts to all family members...or you will see your personal things get disappearing when you are there....so make everyone happy....

We are not from Mexico, however I found your comment very inappropriate... To insuniate that if you do not bring gifts then family members will steal your stuff??? #######...

For ideas; I brought the family in Italy (when I first went) some locally made Florida Orange Marmalade, Scented Candles, A neat one of those hot/cold modern mugs for the guys with some Florida graphics on them and a stuffed animal of a florida gator and sea turtle for the kids.... So something with a little 'local' flavor of where you are from is I think a good thing...

I see you are from Louisville... Of course something of the Kentucky Derby (unique mit julep glasses might be nice) I bought a candle in Kentucky called "bluegrass" and it smelled nice... Kentucky has some nice handmade pottery which would be unique, and stuffed animals of racehorses might be good for the kids... Also a pretty windchime is nice as it is a nice reminder and the breezes will bring positive thoughts...

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBrazilian Aunt to get tourist visa to watch baby
My vote is that would hurt the process as it might appear she is coming to work for you or as a nanny and thus lessen the chance of returning home after the visa is expired... I say she should apply for the visa as a tourist and to visit family and see the new baby... She can then just have to overcome the burden of proving she has sufficient ties to brazil for her to return (house lease, job, family, husband back in brazil etc...) without the extra burden of suspicion of working thrown on top... Because technically she will not be working, just helping family out since ther is no wages involved.

Mexico, Latin & South Americareceived green card, now she shows some "new" colors
Yes, it is a cultural thing... I am married to an italian, but live in south Florida and hang with mostly Latinos (Columbia, Cuba and Venezuela ) and they stay up wwwaaayyyy late dancing and everyone dances with everyone else. Having a skilled dance partner is what makes for a fun night... It means nothing as the Latino culture, they dance for the love of dance... I believe you are attaching YOUR cultural stereotypes to her culture which uses dance as an outlet and expression of joy and fun, not a prelude to sex! IMO, unless you can lighten up and get upset at her embracing this, you will be seen as the "get off my lawn", "turn that racket down" old man and not as the kind and caring husband... Kudos for going to the dance club and keep doing that, take an active role to try to be part of what she enjoys, but don't try to take dancing from her, you will drive her away in the end. Respect that this is part of her and her culture and what makes her happy... You married someone from a different culture and fell in love with that, now that she is here, do not try to take that culture away from her or water it down...

QUOTE (strega @ Sep 13 2009, 02:24 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
hi ,,does anyone know what is needed for a k2 child (mother and father not married) documents for Napoli consulate interview?? do you just need a notarized letter from the mom giving her consent to bring the child to USA permanantly or do you need also a letter from the court showing the beneficiary has custody??

I believe that it is just a notarized letter and a copy of the parents passport/carta Identita? But you might want to check specifics on the state department website??

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Advice on Short-Checking Trip to Europe
Double check with the airline about the short-check... as I witnessed an issue similar where the daughter was meeting her parents in New York who had her passport and they gave her a hard time because her luggage is checked all the way to Europe.... Personally, I would fed-ex it and not risk the whole trip in case they do not let him on??... But again, I would call the airline and triple check...

We are waiting for NVC approval for the CR1.... from what I have been reading the Naples office is pretty efficient (Go Figure???) but my husband is kinda nervous about Naples itself. Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)For Italians: Birth Certificate (estratto di nascita) question
Just have him get the estratto di Nacita (becuase of EU rules, they will even print it with English/Italian).. The Comune will issue them and they cost like 5 cents for the copy... They will put the stamp on them and sign it... No worries... I say bring about 4 copies.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Moving money out of Italy

You can move money as you please. All it takes is one wire. I personally have a life/investment insurance that's due on May 1, after 30 years of paying in, money I'd like to transfer, at least part of it. However, the Euro being at 1.29x now, I would like to see some movement upward first, and I'm not sure that's going to happen in the near future.

I recently received 180,000 Euro from a client in Europe, and just a delay of 5 days has cost me several thousand dollars. If you have $10K, it's probably not a big issue, but if you have $100K or even $500K, timing is everything.

Thanks formthe info... Yes, we are watching that exchange rate too... We are thinking about 150k so it would hit hard with the low x rate... But i am getting a bit jittery with the recent stuff in cyprus and the crackdown in italy on finances...

one question, If younknow, What are the tax implications for the money? We currently file the federal FBAR on the investments, but when we move it, is the money included as regular taxable income? I have not yet met with our accountant for taxes, but just curious if you know.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Moving money out of Italy
Wondering if anyone had any experience in moving money out of Italy? It is well over the 10k limit... With the recent political events and banking issues (taxation in Cyprus as a precedent) we are seriously thinking of moving a good portion of our savings over there from Italy to the US.

We kept a good sum over there since his family is still there and in case they need any. We also have a possibility of moving it to Switzerland as his sister is a resident there and will soon be a Swiss citizen and can sponsor an account. We are just looking at options given the financial climate over there. Any thoughts?

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Naples Really Not Accepting Co-Sponsers???
You might move this to regional discussions for Italy since the question is consulate specific... What I can tell you is that 3.5 years ago when my husband interviewed there, they were REALLY strict and we had to jump through hoops for ours... They did, not want to see a co-sponsor (we wereCR/IR1 ) but you might get some more recent advice since this is always changing...
