Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 January Filers, 2013

Hey MeggyMo. My 21 months of living here in the US had been very challenging so far. A lot of things had happened and time went by so fast. As soon as I moved here, I applied for a license so that I would be able to practice my profession. I also learned how to drive, passed the written test at first take, yet it took me three times to pass the actual driving test. I was able to get a job and have been working for the same employer for 1 year and 3 months now. My husband had to leave me for 6 months because of deployment. Got a house while he was away and now he's back and he's with me again, it feels so much better.

I hope all of us will have an easier time dealing with USCIS again. I'll be praying for us all.

Yea I was nervous about getting my license here too. I didnt drive back home didnt need to. It took me two times I was crushed when I failed the first time! How are u liking ur job? What do u do? U are a trooper I wouldnt know what to do with myself being alone for that long im glad he is home for u now :). We are holding off on a house even though I want one so bad. We are thinking of moving back to canada in a few years to be close to my family since my husband doesnt speak with his family here. It makes it more difficult. I have such a close family and leavong that was pretty tough

When is the Receipt Date on your NOA letter? You need that date for the list ;)

Oh whoops it was january 4th :)

So since we are at this milestone I wanted to ask everyone how they are adjusting to life here? Im enjoying it minus the fact that I hate where I work and there are no other jobs here lol

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsStatus of K1?

So I went to check my status for our K1 visa and it says initial review and has said that for like 2 weeks. Will it ever be updated or if everything goes smooth will it just be updated when it is approved? What have others experienced? Just curios because I'm so excited to get the updates and getting closer to THE DAY!

Michael

Mine said initial review for over three months.
It won't change until they have come to a conclusion on your petition or if you receive an RFE.
I checked your timeline and you have just really started the process.
I wouldn't expect any updates for a couple months yet. Hopefully they come sooner than later for ya!
Oh and to make sure you know when updates are made on your case I recommend applying the text and email notifications on the USCIS website!
Good luck with everything

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsplease anyone i need help
It depends on so many different things.
If you filled the forms out correctly, provided them with all the evidence they need, and there are not any special circumstances in your case then yes that is the general wait time.
If your case is still being processed after 5 months you can call the USCIS and inquire about your case.
Until this five month mark they will not give you case specific information.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsRFE

If a persons petition was to get an RFE, when does it usualy happen. We are about 6 weeks into our petition .. so halfway there and weve heard nothing. No news is good news right ? :)

Yup no news is good news but an RFE can happen at anytime. I have seen people have gotten one at five months.
I know its hard but just be patient and you will know in a month or a couple months there is of course no telling when someone will look at your case.
Just keep your fingers crossed. If you do get and RFE if you can send the documents they require in a timely fashion they will start processing your case again! An RFE isn't too bad once they receive it they will most likely get you approval soon after that.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsVisa Fee increase is official now !
Well guys I got the email back from the Vancouver consulate and I am required to pay the extra 219 USD regardless of whether I had paid before the 4th or not. If your interview is after the 3rd you have to pay the extra amount

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsVisa Fee increase is official now !

The fee represents the cost of providing the service, so the increase is absolutely fair. For some time, the costs have been subsidized by US taxpayers instead of being paid by those requiring the service. Two sides to every coin. This is an expensive process and far more expensive for many with thousands of miles to travel and oceans to cross. Considering the whole picture, $219 more is a drop in the bucket as I see it. By the time my wife and daughter arrived in 2006 and had green cards in hand, we had spent over $10,000 on immigration related expenses and travel, with travel being the lion's share.

And I understand that. It does not mean that I can be a little upset about it considering I was under the impression I had paid EVERYTHING I need to before my interview. I know the process is expensive and I think of course if you want to do it it should be no ones responsibility but your own. All I was saying was I wasn't pleased about finding this out right after I got my interview date.
I don't believe it was necessary for you to make it sound like since I am from Canada I basically shouldn't be saying that I am upset about the increase in fee. I get that people have to pay more if they live farther away but hey I have to pay quite a bit to fly there too. I know it isn't much of an increase but still none the less upsetting since I thought it was all done.

From what I understand you MIGHT have to. This is the important line: "Applicants will have to pay the full fee in effect on the day they apply, regardless of when they pay." Though it doesn't explain what they mean by "day they apply" because it could be:
- day of the interview
- day you return P3 and get your interview date (this is what I personally believe it will be)

Those that have the interview coming up AFTER the date and have already been advised of it and paid the lower fee, like MeggyMo, can you advise us when you have your interview what happened? Whether they asked you to pay or not?

I emailed the Vancouver consulate and asked them about it since I paid the fee almost a month ago now. I won't hear back until Tuesday since it is a long weekend here in Canada. They are really good at responding quickly and thoroughly so I will let you guys know what they say! Crossing my fingers that I don't have to pay more!
