K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	December 2009 Filers - CSC!	Hey everybody it has been awhile. I hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the new life. Yay for our 1 year since filing for all this anniversary lol. We just filed for AOS not too long ago. Had a few things happen that set us back a bit. My mom had to undergo surgery. They thought she had breast cancer. She found out about this while she was in Ohio for my wedding. It was a long wait for the surgery and after they removed the lump further tests showed she did not have cancer! It was a difficult few months for me being so far away from her while all of this was happening. But now everything is great she is recovering well! So Angelo and I have been enjoying being together but I have to admit I am going crazy not being able to work! Once we get this AOS done I am going to an animal grooming school near by! I am so excited to start doing all of this and making my own money. But Angelo did surprise me with a companion while he is at work! We adopted a cat from our local shelter! His name is Dub and he is 3 years old. The name is short for double since he has an extra 2 toes on his front paws! He is a great companion for me and I am so happy to have something to follow me around while I am at home. So that is what is going on! How about everyone else!? Hey all, Caspar I am glad you had a great honeymoon Well today is our AOS interview up in Cleveland, we have a folder larger then the K1 full of evidence, photos & assorted paperwork. Life has been plodding along here...I have been actively looking for work but not having a work history here in the USA makes filling out applications a joy (NOT!) We have also been preparing for Winter...wood pellets are stacked in the basement ready for the stove to be on..the yard is all winter ready for the most part. Other then baking to keep my sanity not much is new here lol. Will keep you all posted as to how today goes So we have to go to Cleveland for that. Wow that is an inconvenience. Then again this whole thing has been just that. Well good luck on the interview Terri. I wouldn't stress that much. From what I have heard its a breeze! K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	December 2009 Filers - CSC!	Meggy you can drive. The USA allows you to use your license from Canada so you can still drive on it while living here. I drive on my Australian license daily..but then again it could also depend on your car insurance carrier & their policy too. Eric's insurance allows me to drive as the vehicle is insured not me as such ..if that makes sense. I know hun but I don't have a canadian drivers license. never have. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	December 2009 Filers - CSC!	Meggy you CAN get your SSN without doing AOS. I got mine within 10 days of being in the USA. You CAN NOT get your OH drivers licence UNTIL you have the NOA2 for AOS. I sat the tests and everything...I rang state head office in Columbus to argue the point only to be told that until I have that I can not be given my license. Frustrating process all round. Stephanie-- I sat here & read your update & cried. Eric asked me what was wrong & I read it to him & he jut sat in his chair speechless. I really wish there was soemthing, anything we could do for you. Know that we would love for you to stick around as you are one of the group regardless of the outcome. If there is anything at all we can do just drop us a line. *massive hugs* Believe me Terri I know I can but I have already fought with 11 people on this subject who work in the building and I gave up. I will wait to get it after. I just wanted to be able to drive!! I am so sorry Stephanie. Got married at 9:30 am went for a nice lunch at 11:00 Drank till 3:00 pm to 1 am. LOL Best wedding ever! Some bad news though. I have spoken to many people and they will not allow me to get a SSN until I have completed the AOS. I mean it is not a big deal I just really wanted to get my drivers license. Anywho we are just enjoying married life and just hanging out together. Things couldn't be better Good luck on the interview I doubt you guys will need it though! Right now my mom and my step dad are flying down to Ohio for their first visit I can`t wait to see them I miss them. An update also on Angelo...he is doing a bit better but he is still quite sore. We are going to see his surgeon today and he is going to ask for another week off of work. He deserves it! Anywho the big day is tomorrow at 9:30 AM. I am just so excited we are finally going to be able to do what we have been working so hard for! I wanted to thank all you guys for all the support over these months. The US Consulate in Ecuador personally called me at home to apologize for the appt scheduling run around, and set our date for next Tues. the 24th. Then apologized again. Ticket bought, and now interview fees for all three paid. Taking a technology class for teachers today and tomorrow, leaving 4am Friday. After the interview Tuesday we have to bus back to the capital, and I fly out Wed. morning. I will update you Thursday! K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	December 2009 Filers - CSC!	Good Evening Ladies (and any Gentlemen still about)! This will be my last post as a single man. In 25 hours the ceremony starts. Less than 30 minutes later I'll be wearing a ring for the first time in my life! (Didn't have one with the first wedding.) Life now is an amusing combination of angst and joy as you can imagine. ALL of my immediate family is here (22) and the guest list is now up to 50 more. Good thing we changed the cake size to feed 80! The new deck I am building should be done in 2 hours and the lights hung in the trees by dark tonight. Going to Hawai'i (Maui) for the Honeymoon. Turns out we can get RT airfare to Maui, 8 nights in a condo on the beach, and a rental car, for almost the same price as airfare alone to Cleveland--our first choice 'cuz the kids wanted to go to the rollercoaster park in Sandusky (Cedar Point). So, yes, there will be 6 of us on the combo Honeymoon/family vacation and Diana and I are both fine with that! Glad to hear everyone is still doing well and Angelo is not suffering for lack of nursing attention! More after Hawai'i. ~Casper Hey Casper!! That is such great news! I am so excited for you and Diana the moment of truth is almost here for you guys! I hope you take lots of pics I would love to see as I am sure the rest of the December filers possy would. Oh my goodness! You really are having a ton of people there. Thats great. Send a slice of the cake my way if there is leftovers which it sounds like there might not be lol. Hawaii sounds fantastic! Angelo and I were thinking about that for the honeymoon before we decided on California. I am sure it will be beautiful. Cedar point is so cool! We found out after a year of Angelo thinking he had an ulcer that his doctor misdiagnosed him . He has gallstones and tomorrow we are going to the hospital to get his gallbladder taken out of him. He is really nervous and to be honest so am I. But finally he won't be in pain all the time and he can eat his favorite Italian food again since everytime he did it would really hurt him. Stephanie, it must be so helpful to you that you already know the school system and can make the adjustment easier for your step-children. We are going to Cincinnati this weekend to look at a car. Depending on finance we'll get it I think because Yuri has fallen in love with it and I don't really care as long as it's manual. I've also found a place where I can train my gymanstics and hopefully I can get some work with them (maybe volunteer at first) so things are starting to get better here. We finally have a vacuum cleaner (I know, sad) almost. The sucky UPS guy delivered it to the clubhouse and didn't even leave a note because he doesn't like walking up the stairs in the heat! The only reason we know it was delivered is because the website said it would be yesterday and we checked the tracking. I've told Yuri to complain to UPS because this guy has done that twice now. He's #######! Have a great weekend everyone. Hey Emma Oh man I wish I lived closer to Cincinnati I would come see you guys!! I hope you guys get the car you both want. We have been looking at cars too. Angelo wants to the new electric car. The Nissan Leaf. I am kind of iffy about getting an electric car. But we will see. I'm glad you found a place for your gymnastics hun. You are one step ahead of us. I found Angelo's old vacuum yesterday and I tried to use it and well lets say it made the worst noise I have ever heard! I thought it was going to explode LOL. So now I have to find another one. And I hear you about UPS they are all lazy. I tried ordering some clothes and they left them at the main office and said noone was home. Well I don't go anywhere so I know I was home. Lazy bums! K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	December 2009 Filers - CSC!	Yay, good news from Ecuador! (finally!) All good here in Oregon. Sooooper busy. Took one daughter to Univeristy of Oregon over the weekend for orientation over the weekend. Sigh, another little bird flies the nest. Today I need to call the high school and talk about bringing in a Ukrainian lad as a freshman. Still no routine to life but everyone is happy. Well, almost everyone. The ex-, who would call the son only monthly when he lived in the same city, now calls every day. Annoying but I'm sure he will lose interest in that soon as he did when he was married. Denys really wants nothing to do with him and is very happy in his new life. Wedding is one month from today. Have done NO planning! Awe well that must be super exciting for your daughter though!! What is she taking? You guys are just planning a small wedding right? To be honest we haven't planned much either. We were going to the marriage license office to get one today but Angelo's ulcer was really acting up. We will have to do that next week. Unfortunately I'm really not warming to Indiana (I never have). We seem to live in the middle of nowhere but downtown is only 15 minutes drive away. I don't have a car yet and I'm too scared to drive anyway so I'm feeling really isolated. And Yuri's parents want to visit and we don't get along very well. I'm sure it will get better in time but so far the only thing achieved is a little bit of unpacking. I ironed for 2 hours this morning, what fun! Sorry for the whingeing. Guy's may not say much and when asked what you can do for them answer nothing, but they are comforted just to have someone important near to them. Diana flew up to Kiev this morning to actually fetch the visas. FedEx called and said they had them yesterday but we knew they would likely not deliver in time for our Friday morning flight so planned to just go fetch 'em! Besides, Diana and I are both a bit controlling that way. T -46 hours. But who's counting? Sorry to hear that Terri. Like Casper said with you there for Eric it will make things much easier on him. But congrats on sending the AOS. I can't wait to get that over with. Right on Casper! Oh I am definitely counting with you. I am so excited. Today is the last day I can finish up packing. We'll be coming back from Ukraine on Friday and it is also quite long, 2 layovers and 23 hours of travel before getting the hotel in Portland and then a 3 hour drive back to Bend on Saturday. It will be fine though, except of course the airlines in their infinite confusion don't have our seats together. We'll try and change at the airport. Our drive back should be nice as we'll go through the Cascade Mountains and maybe go up to the Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood for a quick sidetrip. Happy Travels All! We leave in 70 hours. Yea it ain't a pretty trip thats for damn sure BUT I am willing to do that just to finally be back home with Angelo! Jeeze Casper you seem to be having nothing but trouble with the airlines! They lose your luggage and your seats! Anywho I can't believe we are all getting back home or bringing our loved ones back home at almost the same time! What a great feeling guys. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	December 2009 Filers - CSC!	My room doesn't look like a tornado but it's very bare and is full of boxes! I took so much stuff to 3 charity shops yesterday (I wanted to spread the love) and now my room looks much better. My POE is Chicago, Meggy and I fly via Paris which turns a 7 hour direct flight into about a 12 hour journey Oh well, it will be worth it just to get there! I know how Diana feels, Caspar, but hopefully it will be alright - trust me, I had the biggest freak-out about all of this earlier in the year when I got back from visiting my parents in HK but after talking it through with them I managed to get over it and start looking forward to things again. I hope that Diana settles in easily and it will all be fine for her. Oh Chicago is a great airport! I have been there through connections many times on my way to Ohio and everyone there was super nice! 12 hours just a little less time than me. I can't believe my flight is longer than yours and I live in Canada! Oh well thats what we get for booking late. You must be so excited. Time seems to be just dragging on for me here. My fiancee Nelly and her daughter start the journey from Cartagena to Seattle next Monday 6/28 and arrive in Seattle, WA 6/29. Pretty fast overall started the journey mailing in the packet December 8 and Nelly has had the visa most of this month. Nelly needed to finish some lose ends at home. Glad to see so many others in the December Class of 2009 get approved and make their travel plans. Good Luck to all Congrats! Ya everyone is almost done and home with their loved ones. I am so happy for all of us! BTW I am officially half packed. my room looks like a tornado hit it but I am halfway there! I tossed3 large garbage bags of ####### that I wont ever use down there! I am so happy for you both...well I should say all 3 of you! That is just fantastic. I would just go pick up the visa so then you wont have to deal with the fiasco I just did! Woke up at 5 this morning and decided to check on my visa. Apparently it went from BC to...ONTARIO yesterday. No clue why but I freaked! That is on the other damn side of my country for those who are unfamiliar with Canadian geography. So I was so scared but all the Postal operators weren't working yet because well it was 5 AM. So I forced myself to go back to sleep. I woke up at 8 and went to call the Postal service. Right before I checked the tracking again and by some miracle it was in MY post office delivered today. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	December 2009 Filers - CSC!	Wait on the AOS talk, I'm not done yet!! I got to Ukraine on Saturday after a reasonable trip (as reasonable as 23 hours and 10,000 km can be) but of course, the airline lost my bag again! That's the third time in a row. Been spending a couple wonderful days with Diana and new son Denys. It's better every time we meet. Went to the ballet last night: 1001 Arabian Nights. Diana commented how ballet is universal and no language or translation is needed. True, but sometimes I STILL don't know what message they are trying to send me! So, today is Monday. Tomorrow we take the overnight train to Kiev for the interview on Thursday. Fingers trebly crossed. Yesterday Diana and I both woke at 04:30 dreaming about documents! I think we were having the same dream--I was copying and she was stamping. Funny! I'm taking some hope from your experiences that it will be simple, straight forward, and quick with a happy resolution. After all, we have tickets to be home on the 2nd and our first house guests on the 3rd! Congratulations again, Miss Meggy! Hey Casper glad to hear you made it there ok minus the lost bag fiasco! Just spent the weekend up in Scotland with my Godmother and she was great and said - you're starting a new life, you don't have to take everything... only problem is most stuff is packed now So went and unpacked some stuff that I'm not that attached to 9 more sleeps to go! Thought of other things that I miss: NZ marmite and pinapple lumps - my mum always brings me those; creamed rice (haven't noticed it in the US, it may be there). My room is starting to look empty. Caspar, you do have that the wrong way around and you're missing a country I'm actually a Kiwi but I've lived in the UK for the past 3 years (my Mum is from Sheffield). I have a really sweet tooth so I'll be missing the sweets that you can get here but even more I miss the ones from NZ because there's a very big selection there. Yuri reckons that chip dip is better over here in the UK than in the US so he misses that whenever he goes home. I think mainly the fact that the culture is to eat a lot more fresh food in NZ / UK than in the US (sorry if that's a real generalisation) but from what Yuri says fresh food is much more expensive than processed food. I actually enjoy finding new food and things in all the countries that I go to so I find I look forward to that rather than miss things. I miss certain restaurants more than certain foods And you can BBQ anywhere in the world but only the US seems to do it with all those secret sauces and stuff, so that's different. Time to go back to more packing. Had a panic this weekend about it now that Yuri has gone and taken my winter shoes and coats with him. Hope that he doesn't get too much stick over having all of my shoes in his hand-luggage Second the BBQ comment!! I plan on hitting EVERY BBQ joint I can find. Good Morning (or other appropriate salutation for whatever time zone you find yourself in when you read this!), There is an interesting discussion going on in the RUB forum about food and favorite dishes from the Eastern European corner of the world. I'm curious what you are thinking about that part-of-our-every-day thing? Meggy, my visits to Canada haven't revealed a lot of differences between CA and USA cuisine. Anything you're looking forward to or planning to avoid when here? (avoiding fast food is assumed) Emma, I think I remember you are the USC and your man is UK? (Or do I have that backward?) Do you cook? What kind of cross-pond foods are you looking forward to (or avoiding)? My Sheffield buddies introduced me to many good things during my UK visits and I avoid the black sausage like the plague! Terri, I've not been to your part of the world and other than Outback Steakhouse not sure how Aussie food differs. What treats will you bring Eric from Down Under? Well the one thing that truly grosses me about concerning American food is that you guys have something called sausage gravy. You put it on your breakfast foods and it looks HORRIBLE! I will definitely be avoiding that. I wish you guys had poutine and donairs I will miss that quite a bit. Maybe I should open up a Canadian Restaraunt..Poutine and Maple syrup for everyone!
