PhilippinesMy experience with having my in-laws visit us
QUOTE (Galt's gallstones @ Dec 20 2009, 12:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Sorry to hear about your mother in-law's passing. rose.gif I think you're right, Danny. Her father does have several extended family in Southern California and we did take him to visit them, but most of their time here, they were pretty much isolated from being around other Filipinos. If I had to do it all over, I would have found my father in-law an old lawnmower motor or something like it to tinker around with.

That's a good idea Steven about the lawnmower. Jinky is a lucky lady to have a husband to be kind and good to her parents! You're the Man!! good.gif

QUOTE (Pinay Wife @ Dec 20 2009, 12:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think it's much more difficult for older people to adjust to US life. My uncle and aunt are the same, they don't want to come back because there's nothing much to do for them here in the US. They were bored stiff and the colder temperature did not do their arthritis any good. My parents have not expressed much interest in coming over for a visit either.

You're a good son-in-law, Steven.

I'm sorry Danny that you did not get a chance to show mama-in-law around rose.gif

Thank You Cora! Life isn't always fair, but I did spend time with her in the Philippines. She was the BEST!!! If I could of brought her over here, I would have had a hard time finding anything around the house. wacko.gif Ruchie is like her mother... Constantly changing and moving things around!!! biggrin.gif

PhilippinesMy experience with having my in-laws visit us
Glad you had a great time with the Inlaws! I am kind of wondering if they would have been less bored if there were more filipinos in your community. I know the filipinos feel more comfortable if they are able to speak their dialect and socialize with other filipinos.

We were wanting to bring Ruchies mother over for a visit, but never got a chance to because she got ill and eventually passed away. I wish I would of had the opportunity to have her in my home.

Philippinesmarriage troubles
Too many times here on VJ, we only get to hear one side of the story. This is one of the first that we got to hear both sides. Whatever happens, there is going to be alot of work to do. Good luck to both of you!!!!

Philippinestransfering plane question imigration question also
My suggestion is to meet her at her POE and then fly back to Vegas together. Allow at least 3 hours for the final leg of her flight. I don't know how long it takes to get through immigration and customs out there in CA, but it took my fiancee (now wife) 2 1/2 hours Chicago Ohare. I flew up from KC to meet her and the boy and we almost missed the flight to KC. I sent my fiancee the airport websites so she could see the layout of each airport that was on her Itinarary.

I can't help you as far as the Baggage requirements, but hopefully someone else here will. Good luck to you both! BTW, if you can swing it, it would be really helpful for her if you can meet her at her POE..

PhilippinesBound for Oregon

Hey guys,

Finally heading to Oregon after 3.5 years. Yup, hubby has been doing the jig since he arrived here in the Philippines. I'm moving to Central Oregon in the Bend area, and I was wondering if anybody from VJ is close to where I'll be at. We're leaving for the US on January 25 and it sure would be nice to have someone to keep in touch with when I get there. If you've got tips, advice, or funny stories to share, sure would appreciate any you can throw my way.

My wife is also from Tacloban City. Even though we are in Missouri, If you would like to contact her just PM me and I will give you our Phone number.

There will be alot of changes that you will go through. Homesickness is one of them. Patience and understanding is the key to overcome being homesick. Cultural differences is another change. You and your SO will have alot of laughter and frustration going through this. It all can be overwhelming at times, but believe me you both will get through it.

Keep the fire burning in your relationship. Go out and explore your new surroundings. Find a Filipino or Asian store in your area. Learn how to cook American food and sharpen your skills cooking Filipino food. I could go on and on, but I think you see what I mean. Have fun and enjoy your new life here in the USA.

Don't forget to communicate, communicate and communicate!!!!

PhilippinesYour age difference..Could it be a problem?

Im not like those guys at all though, I agree 100% that women want a stable man and that man can be stable at any age. I can definately see how the posts sound "self serving" and "full of hubris" but it was just a question, curious to see what people would say and how they perceive themselves and what not. I like your posts Ive agreed with both of them.

Why worry about it when it doesn't even affect you? Ask yourself these questions when your wife starts showing her years and you being 7 years younger start wondering if you made the right decision. Ask yourself if your wife will tolerate an unemployed husband for long? Just like I said in another post. I am 51 years old, but I'll scrap with any 20 year old and come out it smiling.... :D
DARUMA07MalePhilippines2010-01-21 10:35:00
PhilippinesYour age difference..Could it be a problem?
Life is too short to worry about all the "WHAT IF'S".... Age is just a number. You can't put a price on Love and Happiness. I am 21 years older than my wife. I wasn't looking for a younger wife, nor was she looking for a older man. We both know one day the good lord will take me, but in the mean time, we are going to enjoy our lives to the fullest. I am 51 years old. It just means that I have 51 years of experience.

I don't worry about what other people think. I got better things to do! Whether I have 10 years or 40 years left to live, we are going to live each day like it was our last. BTW, I couldn't have picked anyone any better than My Ruchie. She defines what true love is all about. I gotta go now. Gotta find my bottle of Geritol and change my Depends(Adult Diaper) and go to bed.(If I can find where my bed is)... :P

PhilippinesMARRIED!!!

My fiance (now, my hubby ^_^ ) and I got married in the civil court last week! :D :D Now our next step is to apply for my AOS and Advance Parole (we also would want to have a church wedding in the Philippines). I've been reading the steps here on the VJ site and they look more complicated than ever because of so many papers to file! Any suggestions on how to make these next steps easier for us as possible?

Thanks in advance! :)

Congrats! Just follow the guides for your AOS and you will be ok. It's not as difficult as you think. You will be ok as long as you fill in the forms correctly and give them the documents that they need. Good luck to you!

I haven't seen one person running for the door with tears all welled up in their eyes after one of his replys in weeks now - somehow the place just isn't the same  :crying:

TCO, you can keep that snow down there. tongue.gif We don't need it up here in Missouri. I lived in Houston twice when I was a kid and alot of people down there never seen snow except in pics and tv. I noticed that the snow stayed on your roof. A very good sign that your house is properly insulated in your attic... good.gif

PhilippinesTHE ESSENTIAL FILIPINO

This is obviously some kind of spam email based on the formatting and therefore most likely an exaggerated, anecdotal story.

While you may find some very poor Filipinos with expensive mp3 players, you'll also find them with expensive shoes, clothing, sunglasses....just about anything that is regarded as western symbols of material wealth. They are in fact fascinated and drawn to our western culture of consumerism. And most often, they get these very expensive items from relatives living abroad.

This journalist didn't venture very far...he could have just gone to a local church during Sunday Mass and look at the parking lot filled expensive cars that contrast against the many poor who ride in jeepney's or hubble-hubble to get around in. The disparity between the rich and poor in the Philippines is not a model that any other country, especially a developed country should ever aspire to. Yes, you will find many poor Filipinos who are happy, but you're kidding yourself if don't think that they don't want the same things that you want, or for that matter possess.

 ....Could not agree more!

I know Ruchie doesn't like to post so I'm pretty sure you will be the one asking about "LIHI" and what to do about morning sickness hehe. Here's hoping Ruchie's "lihi" time will be short and tolerable.

Your right Cora. If I can put up with the weird cravings for food and the occasional (you got me pregnant syndrome) then I will be ok...

Hopefully she won't have too much morning sickness. It will probably be me that has the LIHI.

PhilippinesK2 Passes Interview

Yes, I'm not sure she will sleep tonight. She's moving to Seattle in two weeks herself so there is all that saying goodbye to Canada and her friends stuff, then a week or two later the daugther arrives. This will be the frist time they've lived together fo many many years. For me, it's an adjustment of two women and also for those two adjusting to each other. I think thier adjustment will provide some comic relief ad drama at times but I could be wrong. In any case, I wont understand the fast track Ilocano conversation between them and my "Guy" house will probably be rearranged at least 5 times while I'm at work.....

You are definitely right about the rearranged house! I am still trying to find things around my house after almost 3 years..... :P
