IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresJune Filers!
Hi All: I mailed on June 28... and I am holding my breath for them to cash the check! I am not very good at the "waiting game" so this could be a tough journey for me!

They will hold your approval waiting for the RFE evidence

So how did it take two weeks to go backwards? Why approve and then ask for further evidence? I'm so lost right now. Should I call to find out what the RFE is for?

Well all, USCIS has done it again. I'm amazed by this newest idiotic move.

I called this morning to get more info on the RFE and how this could happen after approval. While talking to the service rep, I told her that my approval has a different case number than my NOA1 has- how am I to know if this is unusual or not. She had me give her both case numbers and then told me that she was going to transfer me to someone with more clearance than her- a higher level of case service (interesting...)

Once this gentleman got on the phone and I told him that I had two different case numbers, he had me give him both case numbers and then put me on hold. When he returned, he asked me to verify a bunch of information like: name, address, dob. Then he tells me that the NOA1 I received WAS NOT MINE! They sent me someone else's NOA1. All along I've been checking on the wrong case- so all of the dates I have for my case are wrong.

I was floored- but happy that the case that was approved was mine (although I feel bad for the person who maybe got my NOA1 and now thinks their case is approved or doesn't know they got an RFE). I just don't understand how this could have happened- then NOA1 had all my personal information on it but apparently the wrong number.

The guy seemed positive that this was the case, he went so far as to say, "I don't know how they got this confused, there are no similarities here- dob, name, everything is different." I'm still in shock about this. At the end of the call, he asked me to send the NOA1 back with a brief description of what happened.

Now I'm worried that not having a paper copy of my NOA1 could come around to bite me- but I guess I'm ok because I have the paper NOA2.

Thanks to anyone who read this whole thing!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHelp!
On 8/29 I recieved a paper approval notice on my I-130. They never updated the document on the website as approved. I have been calling the NVC from India (where I was on business) for the past two weeks- nothing. Tonight I got an email saying my same case now has an RFE... not approved.

Can they go back on this paper approval?? I don't know what to do at this point- any advice would help.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions about taxes
Add to the mess, my husband is self employed (farming/carpentry) and doesn't make much money. He doesn't have any documents stating the amount he has made, so I guess I just need to file, "married, seperate." I just don't want to make any mistakes and cause a big back log with things!

Your filing status can be Married Filing Separately. If you choose Married Filing Jointly, you must include worldwide income from both of you.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions about taxes
Hi All:

I'm not sure if this is the right place... but I figured a lot of us here woud be in the same boat! I married my husband in June and tax season is almost here... but he isn't.

So, my question is, what do I do about filling taxes? Are we able to file jointly? Do we need to get him a Tax Identification Number? Or, will getting that number cause a problem with the rest of our paperwork? Or, is th eonly option to file married, seperately. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAdjustment of Status
I think I am finally beginning to catch onto some of this! Could someone confirm that if, after getting married, my husband (from Jamaica) and I (US Citizen) file an 1-130 and DS-230 (following all the guidelines), that this process (CR) does not require that we file the I-485 for adjustment of status? I am sorry if what I am asking is not clear, I'm still learning the lingo!

Thank you!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurespossible name and address change after filing I-130
We are planning to get married in June and file the I-130 immediately after. I am also planning to come home and look for a new job in a different city (planning to move!) and legally take his last name.

Any advice on how to deal with these two changes without slowing down the processing of our I-130?

The move is more of a must than the name change- but I would like to do both concurrently with filing the paper work. Any advice?

Thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWe are thinking about not getting rings....
My finace and I are thinking about not exchanging rings at our Jamaican wedding. Our plan has always been to have a small wedding (read inexpensive) in Jamaica for his family and have a second larger wedding once he is in the states. He is concerned that when he goes for his interview they may think less of the marriage because we didn't exchange rings--- we can't afford what we really want right now and I don't see the point in spending money on rings that we don't really love. Any thoughts?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresGetting a Police Record in Jamaica
Hi All:

I leave for Jamaica in a week and the wedding is a week from this saturday- I can't believe it is finally here!!! It seems like I have been waiting for this forever!
Anyhow- Mckoy and I have most of our paperwork together for the I-130. We were planning a trip to Kingston this time around to get his police record, but I realized earlier this week that the police record isn't necessary until we get the DS-230 (?) Kingston is almost 3 hours from McKoy's house, so this is a big trip for us! Can anyone give me some pointers on how to go about getting the police record and whether or not we should do it now or wait until my next trip back?

Thanks for any advice!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresabout to file-- lots of questions!
Ok, so I just got back from Jamaica and we're married!!!! So, now it's time to file- but I have some questions, please bare with me and I hope you guys have the answers!

I have my 1-130 all ready to go, but here is where I get confused:

we were married by emergency license, and after the wedding, the pastor signed a form with all of our information on it. It is titled, "Marriage (duplicate) register" It is signed by my husband and I, our witnesses and the pastor. It lists the date and location of the marriage. Will this suffice as our marriage certificate or do we have to wait until it is registered with the Registers General so we can get the official copy of the marriage license? And if this will work, can I send a certified copy of it? If so, where do I go to get a certified copy?

And finally, the last part of the instructions indicates "other proof." How important is this? We don't have shared property or bank accounts or anything like that... we could send affidavits from some friends/family, but I don't want to hold things up if this isn't important.
Any advice???
